5:09 To all YT'ers making vids, for the love of all that is holy, please MATCH YOUR VOLUME! So often the speaking parts are quiet and the music is LOUD! The UA-cam Audio Library has lots of great songs to choose from, but they are LOUD and you will need to reduce the volume of them and not just slap them into your timeline when editing. Thnx.
Probably one of the most important tips out there. I've came across many tutorial videos from small channels that had their background music blasting through my ears and can barely make out what they're saying.
Absolutely agree with this! Even I did volume editing my sounds in my very first video ever, and it was just a small showcase for my gaming mods, so not even a "wanna be a UA-camr" thing 😉
(You don't need to click on my name, there aren't any videos, it's another channel 😂)
This is what I'm paranoid about with my outro music, I adjust the volume but not always 100% if it's low enough.
"Done is Better than Perfect" ~ Fallout76 / CyberPunk 2077
Halo, Ark, lol
Also Final Fantasy VII, and every special event game mode RuneScape has ever had.
"Releasing something and learning from the mistakes is better than aiming for absolute perfection and having it never see the light of day." - Someone who could actually decipher the advice.
@@ForeverJade.D woah hold on… FF7 is a perfect game! Well except for Aeris’ limit break… you get it after she’s dead…
Me:
"It's not good when it's done, it's done when it's good."
Also me:
"I don't know what to think anymore.."
Uploading regularly is the most important thing and as long as you improve with every or every other video you are doing everything right.
Good is done and Done is good. Good is not the same as perfect. Don't do 300 hours of editing on a 3 minute video. It can always be more polished or fine tuned and tweaked just a liiiiittle bit more, but it is better to just call it done when you are ready to say "it is good." That's what the main message of that is meant to be. My father got a doctorate and his professors told him: "There's 2 kinds of theses, the ones that get finished and the ones that are perfect." If you keep striving for perfect instead of accepting that there are gonna be flaws or a point where you have to stop editing and say, "okay, good enough" then there's never going to be a video at all.
@@scotticvs312 oh shoot you’re smart that’s very encouraging
When you come here first, and then have to back track to Harris' video

Big fan!
Editing is like a creative meditation and an escape from reality. Love it!
Nice video
Fantastic advice, great energy! Thank you!
"Done it's better then perfect" is very true and setting yourself an upload schedule really helps that happen a little over a month or so ago I told myself I'd upload every Monday and Friday and sure as hell they aren't perfect. Some I really really like others well... they at least got made and honestly that mindset has made me like video making a lot more and relieves some stress of the process imo
Wow... what a great Video Sam... Thank you for all the great stuff you and Harris have been doing...
#6 is my fav!!!
I come back to this video again and again. Very Helpful!
I really like that you and Harris both reinforced the importance of audio
Some great tips, I've always been intimidated by color correcting. Thanks for the suggestions for getting started using the tools!

Tip 6 is what I've been trying to live by. It'll be fun looking back at my progress and evolution over time as well.
Great video thanks for the advice !
Thank you for the tips! Use to do UA-cam a long time ago, but re learning little tricks will help me get back into it and have some fun with it!
Thanks for the tips Sam! Inspiring for my first upcoming upload
Great genuine guy. Thanks for helping with my first video im making.
Another tip is usage of the arrow keys. I'm not sure if all programs use it, but for Davinci Resolve it does. Left and right keys go frame by frame. Top and bottom go to the last edit cut you did. Those keys made sure getting the right start of a clip or audio were exactly where I wanted it to be, and it made it easier to zip through videos and make sure there isn't any gaps between each cut and so forth.
Brief, useful and to the point. Thanks!
Been editing for a year and I still learned so much from this thank you. Always learning always growing, thank you for the tips
Onwards and upwards!
Awesome Sam!! Really great tips!! Thank you very much!!!
Now I have to go back and watch every single one of your videos. Thank you so much for this.
Wonderful tips Sam 👌🏽
Thanks for this Sam, I came after watching Alphas video. But as a fellow editor that's been doing editing since I was a kid I think I needed to hear your final tip. I hope to get something uploaded this week to begin my journey.
SAM that was super helpful thank you so much
Currently giving my gaming channel a fresh start, I've made all my videos and streams private and gonna give it a change, yours and Harris' videos have been super helpful and I've only been subbed to you both for a few days. Much appreciated and keep up the amazing work.
Appreciate the tips man, made a vid today using your advice
You Sir are an absolute legend!

Thanks! Great Video!
Number 1 is the most true! Audio is more important than visuals! Bad audio can drive people away way faster than bad video!
Holy God. Many Thanks, Sam.
Love this guy.
thank you Sir, for Sharing your vedio and for Advice,GOD bless!
Brilliant ! I had no idea you could get templates to zoom in !!!
Thank you for the info! Just made my first video that I had been procrastinating on haha. Good luck to everyone I wish you the best !!!
0:55 "ouch Charlie, that really hurt!" Is all I thought about 🤣
Such a calming voice
I had a look at my editing software for the first time today and almost had a mental breakdown. SO. MANY. POSSIBILITIES. And I understand none of them. But I'm ready for the journey, especially with your tips!
I would love to see more of this. I've started making videos but they are just raw lets play material editing and scripted content is really the next step for me so this is great stuff.
I need a Sam. LOL
I'm new to editing and have been using crossfades a lot for big cuts in recording. Mainly just doing playthrough's and cutting out footage where nothing is happening, but for some games that's pretty often. I'll try to steer away from using them all the time and find ways to mix it up. Thanks for the tips!
Thank You 😁😁
Thanks for this i needed this for my channel
As a professional videographer, Sam’s tips here are spot on and a great starting point for those looking to up their video game.
Sam, the L & J shortcuts for FCPX have totally blown my mind. The way I *don't* have to listen to myself drone on in normal speed haha. Thank you for this brill video.
Just started my channel and appreciate all the information!
Great video Sam!
Thanks Man! “Done is better than perfect!!” I’m stealing that 😜👍🏾
Thanks, sam!
Nice tips, thank you.
I came from Harris's vid, and glad I stuck around. Those tips were very, very useful.
Now to put them to use!!!
Subbed 😁
SAM! Thanks for the tip about the title templates, it never crossed my mind that I could buy them lol great video man
New camera?! Love the look and style of this SOOO much!
Great tips. I love that you included davinci in there a bit.
The J cut and the L cut technique instantly gave me a complete lightbulb moment. Wish I'd known that years ago!
Great tips loved it !
Great Content as always, Even before i watch the vid.
Man. You're great!
Awesome tips. The best one was the BONUS tip because an over thinker like me always wants perfection & I need to realize that “PROGRESS OVER PERFECTION.”👍🏼
Great tutorial!!
