I'd just like to say thank you for your great easy to follow how to videos!!!! I watched your video on changing solenoid A in the transmission of a ford focus, and then a few weeks later I did the repair myself with ease. And it solved my fords transmission problem!! So thank you!!
I want to thank you for this video, I know nothing about cars but this give me the confidence to try, I found all parts in my local autozone and I didn't expend more than $85. thanks so much my car is driving smoothly now.
Thanks to this tutorial, I solved my 2003 Focus' P0750 error and the car is back to normal. HOWEVER, 2 of the transmission pan bolt heads sheared off, and I had to drill and tap, which was very distracting and time consuming. Also, the Permatex is VERY hard to squeeze out of the tube, making for an uneven, jerky bead around the perimeter.
FordTech sorry for the late response. In reference to slip and engage to 3rd that is exactly what is doing. Then to add more drama to my ride on my way home from work I was going between 45 to 50mph the car started to idle high then next thing I know the a wrench light came on, and then my car wasn't cruising more than 30 to 35mph. Took it to O'Reilly AP had them hook up there diagnostic and there was no P0733 or any other kinda code. I don't know what to do anymore. As for the fluid there isn't any burnt smell, fluid coloration is fine, and the levels are fine. Thank you for your help and feed back I have learned a lot from your videos.
I have a mazda and was referred to this from comments on another video. Even so, this was just outrageously well done for a video. Really helpful and crazy similar to what is needed for putting a mazda pan back on. Even though I have very little respect for fords apart from their 250 trucks, you are amazing and I have huge respect for you. Your videos are so clear, immensely detailed and you show your level of experience. All that equals priceless to us puny commoner diy wannabe mechanics, haha. Thank you so much.
This was just an amazing video! Thank you so much for taking the time to be so thorough and precise on how to do this. I often feel like people will make car videos and they will skip steps just expecting people to know or be able to figure it out on their own...like initially removing the pan or actually HOW to seal the pan back up with a sealer. Simple steps but still, steps that require more researching if you don't really know your way around a car. It drives me nuts! Why watch a video to have to go watch more videos?! BUT! This is definitely not the case with this video! Extremely well done! Totally dummy proof! HUGE Thanks!
I was going to ask which one it is for forth gear and then I read the descriptions... god dammit man you’re a genius, thanks so much just have to wait for the solenoid to come in the mail
thank you! I was able to successfully replace my solenoid, change my filter, and reset the PCM on my '02 Ford Focus. so awesome and very much appreciated!
Great video, im thinking about buying this year focus off of Facebook marketplace and the guy is saying it doesn’t go in reverse. Aspiring DIY mechanic and these vids definitely help out!
Really well done. I was just searching around to see if there were any other spots trans fluid might leak from after a solenoid replacement aside from the trans pan. It's a 2011 E250 but from what I'm seeing everywhere about the only spot a leak could suddenly appear after this repair is from the pan seal. The pan says reusable gasket...hmmmm
thanks, great video, got a 2010 ford fusion se 4 cyl gas recently got p0756 and p2701 one guy recommended a whole new transmission rather than checking electrical or replacing the solenoids im not a mechanic but may opt to try this work myself. we did a fluid exchange and a throttle body replacement before he found these codes
Hi. Thanks for all your great tech tips and videos. My daughter has an 00 Focus SPI. About 150,000 miles. Trans was rebuilt by the previous owner. I changed trans fluid around 120,000. Fluid is not burned. It slips between second and third but not all the time. Maybe only 2 or 3 times a week. Thanks for any info.
I need to replace my SSD...In the video you pointed that out as the solenoid on the opposite side and in the middle, but on this chart, it's to the side. Do you know which it is for sure? Thanks for the vid!
Thank you for your video. I have a 2012 Ford transit connect Fx 2.0. Question: by replacing all the solenoids will it fix the reverse too? Apparently when the car worms up, it won't shift into reverse. Or is there a different solenoid for the reverse?
Can you help? I have a 2002 Focus LX & started to have problems after shifting into 2nd & 3rd & couldn't detect shifting into 4th at all & CEL came on. The code checked was P0750. Then, the next day, just before repairing it we discovered it wouldn't go into reverse to back it into the garage. Did not recheck codes (probably a mistake). Using your very well done video video we changed solenoid A, the filter & transmission fluid & reset the PCM. It now shifts into all gears smoothly & gas mileage has even improved (now that I have 4th). BUT! I still do not have any reverse at all! Any ideas?? I'm assuming the CEL will come back on. I have driven over 100 miles & still no CEL & no code (Even purchased my own code reader now.) How long before the CEL comes back on? Any wise advice would be truly appreciated - thank you.
I dont know what year focus this is but my wifes 2013 has no pan. Solenoid A is ontop of the transmission under the air box and TWO radiator hoses! My twenty minute fix HOPEFULLY has now turned into a four hour project
89 inch pounds of torque?.. I guess I have to divide that by 12 to get Foot Pounds.... that would be 7.4 Ft-Lbs .. I'll have to check my Torque Wrench to see if it goes that low.... Thanks for the GREAT VIDEO !!!... You did a super job there!!
FordTech it shifts into 3rd gear but really hard. Also I notice that starts jerking when I'm going up to 70mph... The car has 130k miles as well. Thanks for your response.
Michael J so it slips goes high and finally engages into 3rd? There was also a major redesign of the direct clutches for that year think a tsb on it for a flaw in design I have done a few. How is the fluid level color and smell, does it smell burnt?
Great video! I've got a question. How do we know that those solenoids are defective, how do we test them and what should the reading on the multimeter be? Thank you. Have a great day!
solenoid d and c 10-25 ohms a and b 1 to 4 ohms and there is no two wires u ground one of the wires on the meter and put other wire on power supply to solenoid
do i need to pull any fuses first or disconnect the battery before doing this my d solenoid was actually the one that went out error code po766 i have an 03 ford focus with 270,000 miles
Brian, I gotta thank you. I replaced these solenoids in a 03 focus a while back and it was a breeze. Especially seeing the job done before I tackled it. Recently, my original 30k mile 2005 focus (4f27e) transmission started holding first until about 20-25 mph and then would slam 2nd. It also clunked hard when shifting into drive from park. (ATF fluid level checked on level ground, warmed up and was pink and full ) I figured it was a bad solenoid, but was confused as to why there wasn't and CEL or a DTC. I hooked up my Autel Maxisys Elite and took it for a road test to look at live data. ....and still nothing. Solenoids were activating normally but the car would hold first until I let off the throttle, then it would eventually slam into 2nd as the car deaccelerated. As a complete shot in the dark I remember you saying that if the battery is disconnected and the positive and negative cable are connected together that it would erase the PCM'S memory, and forget any shift patterns that it had learned. I did that last night (as I was cursing at how I might have to buy a valve body for a 30k mile car) and it fixed it! Any thoughts as to why the transmission could slam so hard and not throw a code? Also, If you were up in Boston I'd buy you a beer, but you aren't, so I guess a small donation to the channel is the least I can do to say thanks!
I think I may need some solenoid work done on my 2007 Ford Fusion SEL V6 3.0L when it gets hot the slipping begins. But it only slips going from 2nd to 3rd, and sometimes from 3rd to 4th. I also noticed that when it is cold outside it shifts fine. But once it warms up, my transmission starts acting up. And it shifts really hard into reverse.
Hey bro, just want to say great video. Very straight forward and informative. I have a problem with my 2007 Focus 2.0 A/T with 63k miles. The trans fluid is clean but it wont shift into reverse sometimes. Sometimes not at all, sometimes hard, and sometimes smooth as silk. All the other gears shift fine. Once it is warm it works like it should. It had a check engine light when I got it and I brought it to a shop. They told me it needed an O2 sensor and that they would clear the light for me to see if it would come back on. Since he cleared the light I've had the reverse problem. Coincidence? I don't know. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
+ Tom Barbiero It would seem you have excessive wear on the endcover that feeds the direct drum pretty common for this concern. No solenoids are activated for reverse it is all mechanical but it needs that pressure feed to work.
thank's FordtechMakuloko When I change the position "P" to anywhere position "R, N, D" I listen a little strock, and push the car (like when the ATF mercon V lack) The color is red and few brown and smell is normally (worked metal) Once that position is in "D" the operation is extraordinary rpm-shifts in gearbox. thank's
I have a 2010 Ford Focus 2.0 with 60,000 miles on it. A couple days ago while driving at around 45-50 mph, I felt a jerk all of a sudden and immediately realized that the rpms seemed a little high. 2800-3000. It just felt as if the car was running a little "louder" than usual. Had had no previous problems with this car since buying it used 6 months ago. The jerking-kicking sensation would be sporadic and happens above what seems like 35-40 mph. After parking the car at Advance Auto for a scan test, I noticed when pulling back out, the car gives a little harder kick going into DRIVE. Anyhow, the scan test revealed P0760. Shift Solenoid C. So, I had it tested at another scanning place and got the same code. I ordered the part from the local Ford dealership and it was 198.00 after taxes. I have not put it in yet because I'm not so sure that this is definitely the problem. Spoke with a transmission shop and they told me that those code results are only 25% accurate for the most part when dealing with the ECM on Ford. HELP! What am I to do? What is the professional way of pinpointing the problem without spending a fortune? I am afraid that if it isn't the Solenoid C, I will have lost 200 bucks by putting in the new solenoid. And how am I to determine if it is even a "solenoid" at all? The transmission shop said that it could be a few different things to cause a code to be shot out like this. I can't see that replacing the Solenoid is the cheapest solution .... as a first solution, at a whomping 200 bucks. That would indicate the next "test" would be more than 200. I understand that testing the OHMS is a start, but does this pinpoint Solenoid VS Wiring problems. How accurate is the code reading that I got twice from 2 different scan tools? As the transmission shop suggested, is it true that other problems could cause this code reading to be put out like this? Thanks!!!!
Hello! Seeing your video was awesome, great detail. I have a 2008 Ford Fusion shooting me error code p2709, solenoid f electrical. have you ever seen this before, and if so how would I go about fixing it?
Love your videos and have a quick question regarding any drain procedure you might recommend on a 2008 Ford Focus automatic. I have seen some that will not only drain but flush out the lines in the cooler. What do you recommend? The Focus also seems to have a hard shift from 1 to 2 gear...hoping the filter/fluid change will help clear that up. Any chance a solenoid might be bad without a code showing? Thanks a bunch!
I'm doing the 2nd (band) piston at the moment. ( Fitted new bush to piston bore). Pulled the valve body, and a 2"x1/2" piece of gasket was gone in the main pressure regulator valve area. Shuddering in reverse, and in 1st. No 2nd or 4th. End cover ok.
Thank you for the wonderful video and the great detailed explanation, but I have a problem. I had the p750 until the transmission was totally ruined up in couple of months for my Ford Focus 2002. I changed the transmission with a used one but I have the same problems that I had in the beginning of my previous transmission. I had the check engine light on with P750 and P1000 in addition to smooth shifting at the early 10-15 minutes then the transmission starts to have delays in 1-2 , 2-3 and sometimes in 3-4 gears. The engine has some vibrations and while running after about 20 minutes when waiting in traffics the car start to have waving speed of the engine trying to shut down. The battery practically starts the car good but on exam it reads low battery. The alternator was changed before all these problems started 2-3 weeks after alternator exchange. Please, do you think the problem is in both transmissions, the old and the new or there us a problem in the car outside the transmission giving a false positive error P750 and causing all these problems?. Thank you.
Great video and advice..I have a 2008 Ford Focus tdci auto which keeps changing in and out of gears jerking motion yet hasn't lost power...slipping is only so often. Would you suggest this a solenoid or bands?
Excellent video thanks .......I have a 2002 with no reverse will scan today but check engine light is not on.....which solenoid would I need to replace if that is the problem?
Great video and informative. I have a problem with my 2015 Ford Ranger 3.2 A/T with 126k Km. I have a problem with my transmission 2nd gear which experiencing shift shock but all the other gears shift fine and okay. Thanks in advance.
Don't put silicone/rtv. That more likely will make it leak. If it doesn't leak, consider your self real lucky. The filter box too says not to use sealant. But very good, in pointing out the solenoids.
Where did you hear that ? Never never put sealant on a transmission pan, unless it's bent, but then you would get a new pan. You can put sealant and it might not leak, but your chances go way up, that it will leak, cause those filter/gasket kits are designed to install without sealant. The aftermarket gaskets are usually rubber which is the seal. Trust me I tried it with couple Dodge Neons and one with and one without. And the one with sealant leaked, but I put a pan under it, and was flushing it anyway, so I just did an extra flush . If I didn't put the pan, it would of leaked all out on the floor by morning.
These and a few other transmissions from ford use sealant only I did not hear that I know that from working experience working at the dealer for 10 years.
done replacing solinoid on 2000 ford focus se..transmission..still slipping on drive but my reverse gear is so strong, runs like a new one..pls..needed advice...
My son has a 2010 Ford Connect Transit (same transmission - 4F27E as the Focus) with error code P0751, indicates the Shift Solenoid "A" had a performance fault or was stuck off. His car will not reverse, nor shift into 3rd or 4th gear. Would you recommend also replacing the "B" or any other solenoid? Great video! took a while until I found he has the same transmission as a Focus.
John Graham my 2005 Ford Focus has a code for shift solenoid b I replaced it twice and still has same code And it doesn’t go into reverse should I replace solenoid A
I just bought a 2011 Transit Connect with the same transmission.. Has 130k; I was interested in your thoughts regarding the shift solenoids.. Would you change the common failure solenoids at this duration to catch them before they fail? Also, would you recommend using a manual oil pump to suck out the transmission fluid through the dipstick tube? Thanks!
Great Vedio! Just got a P0772 Shift Solenoid "E" Stuck on and a P0742 (TCC) Circuit Stuck On trans code. In video you usually changed A & B and not E. What would you do? Thanks. Will Humble TX
Thanks for the video. I am just hoping that someone has had these symptoms before and can steer to the root cause. I bought an 03 focus ZX5 that has been sitting for 2 years. 150k miles. Changed oil in the transmission and flushed it. I have what I thought was an engine stutter but I think it's actually some kind of transmission shudder when accelerating. Seems worse when it's warmed up. Not terrible but noticeable if accelerating. I can accelerate very slowly and it is not as noticeable. On the highway it is more noticeable. I can put it in neutral while on the highway and rev the heck out of the engine with no stutter/shudder. Today it actually does not seem as bad as a couple of days ago. It seems like in gear the engine has a vacuum leak or is fuel deprived. Runs fine accelerating with no transmission engaged. Clear as mud?
This is a common problem so reassemble with Non Hardening gasket sealer and you will be able to drop the pan easier next time you need to get in there.
Hi, in the video you describe the procedure of replacing the solenoid in a ford focus. Is this a CVT transmission? Is the solenoid the same for the CVT gearbox? thanks.
My Shift Solenoid C just went out lol! flashed the O/D It is throwing a P0760 code. Should have changed them out when I had the trans out for the swap!
Hi, I have a 2006 Ford Focus, with a p0960 code, is that the pressure sensor? Have you known any probs with this solenoid, the code is intermittent, sometimes doesnt come on, never comes on straight away, fluid is new and at the midway point on dipstick, thanks great videos Jon
Thanks for the video! I do have a question, I have an 01 focus 5 speed manual SE that when shifting into 2nd gear it grinds. Most say it's the synchronizer for 2nd gear and others say to just replace the whole trans. I'm in need of direction here if you can help. Thanks again!,,
Perfection marine services I would say synchronizer or bent fork. Manual transmissions are very hard to take apart I would replace it if the price is right.
Great videos I have a 2006 fusion 2.3 I replaced the transmission and after that it still runs terrible. I replaced all the solenoids also . You have any idea what it could be . Thanks in advance.
Great video! I have a 2012 fusion se 2.5l and its throwing the code for the pressure control solenoid A. Would the layout be the same on the valve body as on the focus?
Buddy has a 07 Fusion with FNR5 trans. Similar to this trans correct plus one gear added? He bought it with trans issue and rebuilt it. Back together still has problems. No 2nd or 4th, or 5th I believe. He thinks the band needs adjusting but it also throws p0757 and two more for 2nd and 4th incorrect ratio. When he rebuilt B solenoid was bad. He replaced all solenoids, tested before install also. I believe there is either a short or TCM is bad. Trans shop said the computer calls for each solenoid right but that doesn't mean the TCM is good right? Now to test for a short I should check the solenoid B wire at the TCM connector for voltage right? If its off it should have voltage with key on right? If its no voltage there is a short? Also could any other sensor cause it?
Jason Choponis This is a mechanical or hydraulic functional failure of the hydraulic circuit. Was the valve body changed for this concern yet? How was this rebuilt like removed from vehicle opened up and overhauled?
I have a 2005 Focus. while driving home I came to a red light, when it changed green I went to drive off and had nothing. I can shift through all gears but they never engage. I have no check engine light coming on. I do however get a long constant beep when I shift out of park. Any ideas of what I need to do
2000 Focus getting 2nd-3rd flare at times and comes out of overdrive also intermittently ...would like to check the intermediate / overdrive servo ....is this possible to inspect and replace if necessary without removing the transmission any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated...great videos can't thank you enough for sharing all this great information
you can remove the pan and valvebody to check for this yes. Yours is likely to be the end cover though as the sealing rings on the direct clutch tower wear grooves into the direct drum causing this which requires a complete overhaul.
Ryno Horton Hi, did you figure out what the problem was with your car? I replaced the solenoids A and B and the car is running fine, it shifts gears smoothly now. Before I did this, a mechanic guy told me that my gear clutches would probably be worn out; luckily by replacing the solenoids fixed my problem.
i tried it too and it didn't work either..... took it to the dealer and they said according to the computer simulator everything seems to be working so they say it needs a new transmission....those bastards at the ford dealer charged me 100$ for the test and i know it came from another ford dealer and the info was allready in the computer from when the last person took it to a different dealer....it's a 2005 with 42000 miles
My 2005 Ford Focus ZX3 SE (91,000 miles) makes kind of a "chrip" noise every time it shifts into 3rd gear. I'm about to replace the transmission filter and the fluid lost when the pan is dropped (also installing a drain plug so future fluid changes will be easier). Will this help eliminate the shift noise? Thanks for all your videos, very helpful!
It likely will not help with the noise but if it is chirping like than and it is damaging internals you will see it right away when you drop that pan. There shouldn't be much in there.
Good afternoon. I have a 2007 Ford Focus and am thinking this might be the issue with it. I was driving it around 30mph, and everything seemed fine. Then I started to accelerate and I could hear the RPMs going higher and then it felt like a hard shift into the next gear. After that, everything appeared to be fine. There were no other issues with any other gear. Could it be the Shift Solenoid A or do you think it might be something else? Have checked the fluid and it appears good with no burnt smell. Thank you for your time and help with this.
They can fail intermittent like that yes and set no code at first. End cover problems on these are common but I would change the solenoid out first and go from there.
Great video! I have a 2008 Mazda 3. I'm getting code P0753. The Mazda repair manual i have says shift solenoid A is the solenoid closest to the front of the car on the driver's side. Amy idea which solenoid is solenoid A on my car? Any help you can offer would be appreciated.
2008 Focus automatic, sometimes it will not go past reverse. Turn engine off/on and it corrects the problem most of the time. Car has no issues with shifting once going. Does not happen all the time, very hit and miss? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
great video the tech was very knowledgeable and informative and clear speaking, I'm actually having issues with my 99 Ford Escort shifting into OD. I'm assuming this is a similar procedure .good idea about clearing the code so the computer sends a right information. good information. Thx
Thanks a ton for making this video I have to change the solenoids in the transmission of my 08 focus, still not sure if it’s the solenoids or if it’s the whole transmission, it bangs into the gears and the car nose dives and releases when accelerating to highway speeds, my focus has been nothing but issue after issue lol it has nothing to do with being a ford either, the car was not maintained by the previous owner, but I can’t complain I bought the car for $1500 with 107.000 miles on it and the body is still mint no rust for a New York car that’s a good thing even the rear subframe is pretty mint .
@@ambertrevino2771 it was the shift solenoids , and the internals in the transmission that failed, I don't have the car anymore due to the issues it started having, I'm in the process of Buying another Ford Focus because it was a great car and was cheap to fix stuff and pretty easy to maintain.
@RailfanBobbyFocusMk208 how's the new Ford doing? I have a 2013 Explore 112,000 miles torque converter is shot. 09 Focus 140,000 miles transmission doing what yours did. The fact Ford will send known defective transmissions (DPS6) off an assembly line and think it's acceptable to lie to customer's faces, claiming its just normal operation was enough for me. Never again in this household but to each their own.
@@jefferygordon243 unfortunately My 2008 Ford Focus was totaled, got hit by someone attempting to change lanes on the highway and they took out the passenger side rear of the car and it caused me to hit a Guardrail when my car spun out and I hit a guardrail head on, all airbags deployed and the car saved my life, I walked away with only minor airbag burns on my wrists and minor whiplash, the safety ford designed in their vehicles is pretty amazing it could have been worse but I’m still here and able to see my daughter grow up, I’m currently driving a 2014 Ford Escape titanium with the 2.0 eco boost turbo 4 cylinder and I love it, no issues with it at all.
did you ever run into a 2008 focus se with an automatic trans that would not engage the park pawl, even after a cable adjustment? is the pawl accessible by removing the pan?
Hi there , thanks for very informative video, I have a Hyundai elantra 2003 with the same issue, shift solenoid A error code, I got all the parts and willing to change it in the next days, do you know if the shift solenoid in elantra is the bottom or the car or on the top? preciate any input. Thanks
any suggestions on if the transmission seems like it goes out of gear when accelerating. when you let off the accelerator it goes into gear and you can accelerate again.
I have a 2005 Ford Taurus that ran great. I did not have any slipping with the transmission. Just woke up one morning started the vehicle and it did not move in any gear..No grinding sound. Just unable to move the vehicle in any gear. Could the shift solenoid be the problem? if so, how could I determine the codes like the ones you identify with the focus for the Taurus? Having some clue with the problem before dealing with a mechanic makes the process alot easier.,,
I have an 05 ford focus my question is when I had the codes checked it said all selonids were bad a through d is that possible because you put the car in drive and usually it will make it into second gear and then slip and not grab
I'm having a shifting issue with my 2009 ford escape. originally it wouldnt go onto reverse. So i put it in park cut it off then it wouldn't crank. I checked some forums and they said the shifting solenoid was bad. do you have any info on those?
hey @FordTechMakuloco I have a 2012 Ford transit connect with 182,000kms. My transmission started acting up, only drives smooth in 2nd gear, doesn't want to shift past 2nd, the rpm's will jump. Engine codes: P0752 - Shift solenoid 1 (N88): Short to Plus P0772 - Shift Solenoid 5 (N92): Short to Plus Please get back to me what i should do, would rather save money and it any replacements my self as i am mechanically inclined. Will be dropping pan in next hour to check Thank u
Hi there! Nice video. I do have a 2013 Ford Transit Connect which is based on the Ford Focus I understand. I have almost 50k miles on it. What is the estimated mileage for fluid replacement ( when does it need the filter to be replaced ). Any video that you can share on how to do it. ( I have noticed that there is no drain plug to ????. Also, for the rear shoes any video on how to take the drum and replace shoes. Thanks very much for your time.
question about the shift solenoid, are A and B the same exact part or are they totally different? also same question to a, b, c, d, e are they all the same or each different, or is it the first 2 the same and the last 3 the same but set 2 and set 3 are different?
I have a Escape 2010 with a 6f35 trans Ford doesn't have one in stock and the aftermarket refurbished valve has a plastic shoulder and the original is metal numbers on the solenoid are not the same ever run into anything like that? I cant find that same type of solenoid that I pulled out. will the other one work or are the flow rates different?
Great video! My girlfriend's 09 focus, doesn't go into reverse when you put it in park in order for it for it to in reverse we must leave it neutral, and when it's in neutral i noticed that when I rev it it won't won't past 3k rpm, now when when we drive it it sometimes doesn't want to shift like going up hill this happens 3 days ago now my question is would the shift solenoid be the issue or is the transmission in need of a replacement ? This happend when she curved the car and it started acting weird. So if you could give me some advice that would be cool thanks in advance !
What's up. How did you diagnose the solenoid? I have an 05 Mazda tribute with p0750 that will not engage reverse. I don't have access to the factory scan tool which is how Mitchell has you go about diagnosing it. I do have a snap on verus at work. The car came in for spark plugs and exhaust, the p0750 happened while at my shop.
Great Video FordTech, I have a 2008 Ford Focus with 110K. and it does not engage in reverse. Which Solenoid would I have to replace A,B,C,D,E? Can a solenoid be test before replacing blindly? Where can I find what each one affects specifically for future reference? I heard these go out frequently, i dont know how true that is.
+Katy M. Detailing According to the solenoid chart no solenoids are turned on for reverse. the concern is either in the valve body or the reverse clutch pack.
Do the solenoids controls specific gears? My 2009 focus shifts really rough from 1st to 2nd gear, then fine for 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th. Also don't have overdrive but have a few ideas as to why that is. I'll probably just replace all the solenoids because they are cheap but it would be nice to know which specific one is causing the issue.
hi there! great video! listen when you take the fluid out, do you get the whole fluid like that or do u have to do something else, or use something else..? thanks
I have a 2005 focus zx3 with 150,000 miles. I had the blinking orange light and super hard shifting in reverse and 1st gear (all other gears shift perfect), so I replaced the A & B shift solenoids and it fixed the problem for about three weeks and now the light flashing again and is shifting hard when going into 1st gear and reverse again. Do you think that there are greater problems than these solenoids or should I try replacing them again and see if that fixes it. Or should I try replacing all 6 solenoids? All 6 solenoids on ebay cost 130$ vs. transmission replacement costs 1000$+.
I went to the dealer today and I ask him about the part with explain the one with whit wire and he said solenoid a and b are the same ( the mini one) and he gave me the part number xs4z-7h148-aa and the price is $75 for each now my question is that part no the right one? Do I have to change both of them ? And if I buy after market or ebay do they have the same quality ? Just to to remind you my car ford focus 2002 automatic transmission zetec engine thanks again for your help .
Hi, Great video. My daughter have a 2000 Focus LX. It will slip and skip 2nd but get into 3rd and, will not go into O/D. If you turn off the O/D will run fine in 3rd. The transmission was rebuilt less than a year ago and the TPS was change today. You think it will be solenoid A?
Robert Tanon This is a classic symptom of the end cover having grooves in it, also the sealing rings that stick into the direct drum wear grooves and cause pressure loss and symptoms like your explaining. How far did this rebuild go? I am thinking they didn't replace the direct drum nor the end cover.
love the song in the background... "Worthy is the lamb who was slain!" .. in the midst of my troubles I cried out, and I was led here to this video!
praise the Lord above!
He's close to the broken hearted. He can make turn our darkest situations around in amazing ways. Glory to God!
I'd just like to say thank you for your great easy to follow how to videos!!!!
I watched your video on changing solenoid A in the transmission of a ford focus, and then a few weeks later I did the repair myself with ease. And it solved my fords transmission problem!! So thank you!!
Did ur have no drive and then no reverse eventually
I want to thank you for this video, I know nothing about cars but this give me the confidence to try, I found all parts in my local autozone and I didn't expend more than $85. thanks so much my car is driving smoothly now.
did you use silicone or a gasket on the pan?
Thank you for making all these videos They save me a lot of time and in some cases money. I hope you keep them coming.
Thanks for taking the time to make this video! I thought I was the only mechanic who listens to Christian music. lol
you sir are worth a million bucks thank you!
Hi.. Are you a mechanic?
@@D0nie11 No, far from it. Just someone who got tired of being over-charged by car shops.
The pan says reusable gasket...hmmmm
superb! clear and easy to follow this man is an automotive SURGEON! Thank you b
thanks, great video,
got a 2010 ford fusion se 4 cyl gas
recently got p0756 and p2701
one guy recommended a whole new transmission rather than checking electrical or replacing the solenoids
im not a mechanic but may opt to try this work myself. we did a fluid exchange and a throttle body replacement before he found these codes
Rob Sallada I am thinking end cover groves on this one also many don't realize they need to replace it when they rebuild the trans.,
Here is the solenoid layout chart for your reference- i1292.photobucket.com/albums/b576/makuloco2000/A0006159_zpsjtptwfya.jpg
FordTechMakuloco hello my reverse stop working which one is the reverse? Thanks
I need to replace my SSD...In the video you pointed that out as the solenoid on the opposite side and in the middle, but on this chart, it's to the side. Do you know which it is for sure? Thanks for the vid!
I have an '04 Focus, would you recommend a "Shift Improvement Kit" or not? Thanks!
I appreciate you so much this video saved me so much money i was able to do the replacement my self 2013 ford focus
Thank you for your video. I have a 2012 Ford transit connect Fx 2.0. Question: by replacing all the solenoids will it fix the reverse too? Apparently when the car worms up, it won't shift into reverse. Or is there a different solenoid for the reverse?
Good details bro !!! I hate when people leave stuff out! You explain very well
Good music in the background! I listen to the same!
wow its incredible how clean he got the inside of the transmission, after installation of the Solenoid.
Have you had any luck figuring this out im in the same boat
I believe it's supposed to be between 20 and 30 ohms across the two wires. If it's below or above it's defective.
solenoid d and c 10-25 ohms a and b 1 to 4 ohms and there is no two wires u ground one of the wires on the meter and put other wire on power supply to solenoid
Should do a vlog on 90 - 97 Ford Taurus trans pressure control solenoid, cleaning the solenoid filters, VSS troubles.
Awesome thank you! I will try to change this myself now.
Great video and audio without background noises in excess.
All videos should be so well done as this one!
do i need to pull any fuses first or disconnect the battery before doing this
my d solenoid was actually the one that went out error code po766 i have an 03 ford focus with 270,000 miles
(ATF fluid level checked on level ground, warmed up and was pink and full )
I figured it was a bad solenoid, but was confused as to why there wasn't and CEL or a DTC.
Also, If you were up in Boston I'd buy you a beer, but you aren't, so I guess a small donation to the channel is the least I can do to say thanks!
did you ever get the car repaired? What was wrong with it?
Any ideas on how to fix it?
End cover replacement requires a full rebuild.
Ok, so fixing the seleinod should fix this hopefully right? Thanks for your info and help.
thank's FordtechMakuloko
When I change the position "P" to anywhere position "R, N, D" I listen a little strock, and push the car (like when the ATF mercon V lack)
The color is red and few brown and smell is normally (worked metal)
Once that position is in "D" the operation is extraordinary rpm-shifts in gearbox.
thank's
Gerardo Mendez Yeah if you go forward in reverse then the internals are welded together.
I just want to say Congratulations for your video! !
Great job on your video!
Keep up the good work and thanks for helping people out.
Thanks!!!!
Word of advice, don't ever go to the dealership for parts. My Solenoid c only cost $22.00. But I'm experiencing the same problem. Did you ever fix it?
200.00 for a simple solenoid is just Nuts! its shouldnt cost any more than 20 bucks, even thats too high
I got the same problem, change the PCM and problem fixed with the P0760 selenoid code C
Is there a way to test ssA. I get no "click" from it or ssB on the bench. Code was 0752 says ssA is stuck on. Thanks for the great video.
Hello! Seeing your video was awesome, great detail. I have a 2008 Ford Fusion shooting me error code p2709, solenoid f electrical. have you ever seen this before, and if so how would I go about fixing it?
+Sean Johnson if the harness internally and externally is ok then I would have to say replace the solenoid.
Thank you for the reply! Took it in and found out a mouse had chewed through the wiring in the transmission!
Your videos are very helpful. Would this particular video for the Ford Focus Shift Solenoid A Repair be applicable to a Ford Escape 2006 ?
No that is a different trans.
End cover ok.
moyadapne Yeah I have seen that before too on a few.
Thank you.
I'm not sure but I hope I don't have the same issus
Great video and advice..I have a 2008 Ford Focus tdci auto which keeps changing in and out of gears jerking motion yet hasn't lost power...slipping is only so often. Would you suggest this a solenoid or bands?
Excellent video thanks .......I have a 2002 with no reverse will scan today but check engine light is not on.....which solenoid would I need to replace if that is the problem?
i have a 2006 no reverse did u find out what it was
John Rinehart I have a 2005 same thing
I have an 08 Focus. No reverse. :( I'm going to swap some of these this next weekend and then to the tranny shop.
Did you find out which solenoid to replace?
Great video and informative. I have a problem with my 2015 Ford Ranger 3.2 A/T with 126k Km. I have a problem with my transmission 2nd gear which experiencing shift shock but all the other gears shift fine and okay. Thanks in advance.
thanks man I use your Ford knowledge for every problem on my 2010 focus!
Don't put silicone/rtv. That more likely will make it leak. If it doesn't leak, consider your self real lucky. The filter box too says not to use sealant. But very good, in pointing out the solenoids.
cndvd Sealant is the proper seal solution and is the way these transmissions came from the factory.
These and a few other transmissions from ford use sealant only I did not hear that I know that from working experience working at the dealer for 10 years.
done replacing solinoid on 2000 ford focus se..transmission..still slipping on drive but my reverse gear is so strong, runs like a new one..pls..needed advice...
what happened to your car? Did you get it fixed?
My son has a 2010 Ford Connect Transit (same transmission - 4F27E as the Focus) with error code P0751, indicates the Shift Solenoid "A" had a performance fault or was stuck off. His car will not reverse, nor shift into 3rd or 4th gear. Would you recommend also replacing the "B" or any other solenoid? Great video! took a while until I found he has the same transmission as a Focus.
John Graham my 2005 Ford Focus has a code for shift solenoid b I replaced it twice and still has same code And it doesn’t go into reverse should I replace solenoid A
Awesome video . Is this compatible with my 2003 ford focus station wagon as well
Matt Brunenkant Yes all the same trans.
Ok awesome thankyou
I just bought a 2011 Transit Connect with the same transmission.. Has 130k; I was interested in your thoughts regarding the shift solenoids.. Would you change the common failure solenoids at this duration to catch them before they fail? Also, would you recommend using a manual oil pump to suck out the transmission fluid through the dipstick tube?
Thanks!
did doing this fix it
Great Vedio! Just got a P0772 Shift Solenoid "E" Stuck on and a P0742 (TCC) Circuit Stuck On trans code. In video you usually changed A & B and not E. What would you do? Thanks. Will Humble TX
Thank you for this valuable information!
Much love and respect 💞
From your description I think you have a misfire they will seem like a trans shudder. How is the fluid level, color and smell?
This is a common problem so reassemble with Non Hardening gasket sealer and you will be able to drop the pan easier next time you need to get in there.
Is solenoid A for the 4th gear ? Good back ground music.
Should have changed them out when I had the trans out for the swap!
own a Mazda Demio 2008
Thanks a million absolute same thing you made it soo easy
Yours is likely to be the end cover though as the sealing rings on the direct clutch tower wear grooves into the direct drum causing this which requires a complete overhaul.
hey man I did everything u said I even did the battery thing 3 times still shifting hard at 2nd gear. almost 5000 rpm. now what
Ryno Horton Hi, did you figure out what the problem was with your car?
@@gonicjon oh that's dirty...
Thx
Thanks a ton for making this video I have to change the solenoids in the transmission of my 08 focus, still not sure if it’s the solenoids or if it’s the whole transmission, it bangs into the gears and the car nose dives and releases when accelerating to highway speeds, my focus has been nothing but issue after issue lol it has nothing to do with being a ford either, the car was not maintained by the previous owner, but I can’t complain I bought the car for $1500 with 107.000 miles on it and the body is still mint no rust for a New York car that’s a good thing even the rear subframe is pretty mint .
did you find out the problem? same thing is happening to my 08 ford focus
09 Focus 140,000 miles transmission doing what yours did. did you ever run into a 2008 focus se with an automatic trans that would not engage the park pawl, even after a cable adjustment? is the pawl accessible by removing the pan?
Hi there , thanks for very informative video, I have a Hyundai elantra 2003 with the same issue, shift solenoid A error code, I got all the parts and willing to change it in the next days, do you know if the shift solenoid in elantra is the bottom or the car or on the top? preciate any input.
Thanks
great info. i have a 05 freestar that won't shift into hi gear, could it have the same problem? What Code & what solenoid would it be. Tim G
any suggestions on if the transmission seems like it goes out of gear when accelerating. when you let off the accelerator it goes into gear and you can accelerate again.
Having some clue with the problem before dealing with a mechanic makes the process alot easier.,,
I have an 05 ford focus my question is when I had the codes checked it said all selonids were bad a through d is that possible because you put the car in drive and usually it will make it into second gear and then slip and not grab
this is a great video ! easy to follow and do at home. Thanks for the awesome work..!
Engine codes:
P0752 - Shift solenoid 1 (N88): Short to Plus
P0772 - Shift Solenoid 5 (N92): Short to Plus
Please get back to me what i should do, would rather save money and it any replacements my self as i am mechanically inclined. Will be dropping pan in next hour to check
Thank u
Hi there!
Got a PO767 Code Shift Solenoid D Circuit Stuck On. Should I buy a new D? A? or both? Thanks for the video!! I'm doing it myself!!!
I would replaced D and replace A while you are in there because it is common.. Check for harness shorts while you are in there.
question about the shift solenoid, are A and B the same exact part or are they totally different? also same question to a, b, c, d, e are they all the same or each different, or is it the first 2 the same and the last 3 the same but set 2 and set 3 are different?
For a freestar Ford 2007 the solenoid is it inside the oil pan too
I have a Escape 2010 with a 6f35 trans Ford doesn't have one in stock and the aftermarket refurbished valve has a plastic shoulder and the original is metal numbers on the solenoid are not the same ever run into anything like that?
Michael Herbert I test the solenoid from the trans bulkhead connector and saw it was open.
Where is the secondary valve body location? For an fnr5 06 fusion apparently I have a bad pressure solenoid B... Sounds like a good diy
FordTechMakuloco Hi, I really don't know how far they go. I will check with the place that did it for me.
Thanks for your reply.
