Carter turns 60 this year, guys... never too old to groove
In 3 years he’ll be 69
Fun fact: The line you see going into the back of Beauford's shirt is pure, liquefied rhythm being injected directly into his veins.
Legend has it it’s connected to himself! lol
@@NFS305 HAHAHAAHAHAH
I think there are more over rated drummers who earn the praise because of things like sheer power, or facial expression and intensity, or even the way they tune their drums. Carter is something uniquely special. He is refined, studied, incredibly precise and controlled. He's an energy conservationist as his technique allows him to it better, faster and longer. He does it with a smile. Often times his part is the song itself like that of Copeland, Rich, Peart, Early, or Gadd. He does ghost fills within ghost fills and often hits 32nd timing. He blends in perfectly to every single song that they created without suffocating anyone else. He is a fine master at his craft.
very well said. i think a lot uneducated ignorants hear his complex style and simply attribute to overplaying, but that's not the case at all. carter's fills and accents are very deliberate and precise as you said. he always works to complement, and always implements his talent brilliantly without overshining. the man is nothing short of genius and virtuoso.
I set my snare low, below my hips. Carter has his set low. I recommend a cup and jock strap lol. I hit myself in the pecker. On stage
This is so well said.. damn!
Yes.
Being a copy cat comes with a price.
Everyone: talks about how AMAZING Carter's drumming is
Me: googling "how to blow bubbles with chewing gum"😂
this guy is close to impossible to duplicate.
That entire band is one of a kind...I've never heard their equal.
Why tf would you want to duplicate it? Get your own style/sound..
The world doesn't need 2 Dave Matthews band. One is more than enough
calm down buddy, everyone has their inspirations. people aspire to be like them. Acknowledging that it would be impossible is fair. you sound like the new york trumpet dude. look him up if you need a reference@@GlowShow5113
@@danno02 The best terrestrial/human jam band ever, not psychedelic, experimental, or transcendent
My favorite thing about Carter is he always looks like hes having the time of his life, when hes playing.
Eveyone saying he's in the wrong band... this IS his band lol. He formed it with Dave. He was the first guy Dave approached about playing together.
Taco Crisma also in some readings lists him as the namer of the band. They needed a name n didn’t have one. Had to go on as something n carter said ‘dave Matthews band.’ It remained
Dave’s voice suxx though.
@Erastus C not musically.
@@SPAZZOID100 Dave’s voice and Carter’s hands are what made them the legends they are.
@@SPAZZOID100 this is a rough night for him it’s not usually like this.
Carter and Dave might have the best singer/drummer connection of all time!
Just look how Dave often looks back to the drums and gives a joyful smile, and Carter always grinning back, expressing how much they love what they're doing, and how much they accomplished in 20+ years in music!
I totally agree, I have always paid attention to that detail. and it is something that transmits good vibes to the public, it is the best band in the world

Damm, he can chew gum, blow bubbles, sing and smile all at the same time..... Oh, and he's pretty good on the drums too! 😁.. Carter is the big cat in the jungle.. Amazing!
Of course he can, he's been playing the same set list for 20 yrs. Any one of us would be the same way if we had 20 yrs of playing the same 15 songs every other night.
@@GlowShow5113 lol! You're right. Shoot, I have trouble walking, talking and chewing gum all at the same time (and I try it every day) so I guess I thought he was kinda special.
I never said he wasn't good... He's incredibly tight with his band.
@@GlowShow5113 they have more then 15 songs
@@riverphillips22 well duh.... But they don't play every song from every album at their shows. It's very likely that they haven't played 2-3 songs from each album since they day they recorded them. Bands play a compilation of their most known material, a live version of a greatest hits album. And they do that same set list, every time they play, unless they're touring a new album, then they will add a few of the new tracks to the old set list. The order of the songs may change, the tempo of certain songs might vary from night to night, but over all they play the same 15-20 every time they walk on stage.
I love how he never loses time and still manages to sing back up and move that mic around and adjust it throughout many tunes. Truly one of a kind.
Carter is one of the best
This guy is impossible to play and he's my favorite 🥁 drummer I mean are you kidding me Carter Beaford is amazing
GOAT 🐐 without question
WWYS was the song that changes my life back in 1995. Hearing it on the radio in Santa Fe, Mew Mexico. Purchased the c.d. that evening. 25 shows from 1996-2006.
Beauford is undoubtedly one of the greats. Very cool to see him work at this angle up close. Noticed how flat and close in he plays his hats almost at the bell. Also the same for his ride. He plays with minimal spread on all his cymbals. It's part of his technique and sound. Very funky and cool !
costamesa22
Minimal spread on cymbals...what does that mean?
i always love how much fun carter has when he's drumming. absolute inspiration.
One of my favorite drummers who does not play in a metal band. So smooth. So fluid!
He's a great drummer, and a fantastic showman!!!
A freakin' genius. Awesomeeee 👆👆👏👏🤘
Solid , Solid , explosive , with a magic touch ..... Always great ....
Jeff nailed the solo that time.
ahhh, the memories of the time when this album first came out.
hey Vic Firth, can we get "warehouse", "crush", or "one sweet world" from this show? Carter Cam is my favorite!
or "drive in drive out."
HAPPY BIRTHDAY CARTER!
Everyone talking about how Carter is just insane on the drums, adding in chewing gum, vocals, and that nonchalant mike flip during instrumentals. I just gotta wonder what happens to his brain when he sits back after the show. It must be like when a big machine with numerous loud, moving parts gets shut down, and all you hear is that low rumble die out and there's nothing but silence (or crickets).
I wonder if someone has to physically move him at that point?!?! 😂
carter clapping with his sticks at the end. classic.
Fantastic as always!!!
Amazing artist!.. I repeat: Artist, amazing artist!
what a beautiful view of being in that drum chair and seeing the crowd! Great footage.
An absolute Master at work.
Good vibes !!
awesome man great drummer
This is great saw a recommendation from a tutorial glad I checked Carter out I was on here looking for drum sounds for my songs.
That left foot!
and that left hand.
He's so happy!
NICE!!!!!!!!!!!
Beast....
2:09 is so smooth.
I would take minimum wage to move Carter's mic in and out of the way because the amount of knowledge gained from being directly behind him would be worth...well too much to say.
Even though close in age until his passing, he reminds me a lot of Wilbert "Junkyard Dog" Arnold.
Just amazing. Drum. Gum. Sing. Forget it, lol.
I'm so sad the yellow dip is discontinued:(
Dang son. Enough said.
even the drummer gets a teleprompter for the lyrics look just above tom 2 & 3... damn that's handy to structure each song when the singer goes off on a jam tangent
i would like to see tod sucherman and carter swap bands, it would be interesting
Did Vic firth get the intern to mix this?
Really enjoy hearing that drummer play,
but was also really scared when I heared fckng violins in that song
The only thing about this band i ever liked.
2:32
And I still struggle chewing gum and walking.
Talk about doing something and chewing gum at the same time.....geezum, this guy’s killer on the skins.
Only pro can can chew a gum while be back up singer and hit a drum😊
Those mizuno gloves tho
odd to see a monster kit used in pop rock/country stuff (dont know if its country, but defnetly not prog/fusion/metal and etc)
Dave Matthews is pretty much prog, but they're like a prog/jam band. That's the way i see it, and I'm a huge fan!
Fusion/RnB/progressive/funk maybe ?
Hugo Rezende country? Lol not exactly a good ear for genre there, huh?
Monster Kit=MONSTER player!~ The Best!
Just awful
Sound a bit like Primus
Who knew Ben Carson was such a good drummer?!
👎
1:08 did he just say "who dropped a big one"?
Don’t drop the big one 🤣🤣🤣
Can do without the band but absolutely love the drummer.
Yeah, he should be in some funk fusion band.
Yeah, Matthews can't sing worth crap, but as the frontman, he seems to give the band artistic liberty. For most musicians, that counts for almost everything. Add a huge paycheck, and it's gravy.
Don’t know if it’s the mix or what but this sound like butt
The band could be way better without Tim Reynolds
Yuk
Don’t dump the poop tank yesh
Great drummer... I can't stand Dave Matthews though.
He's in the wrong band. He should be in some regional funk/fusion band where he can overplay in a more appropriate context.
googlefuckedupyoutube right, the 7 #1 albums they have had and millions of fans and being the highest grossing touring act of the 2000’s definitely sounds like he chose the wrong band. If you don’t think his talents have been properly used in DMB then you just haven’t heard much of their music.
@CHILI P He certainly gets to play a million notes.
2:48 let me get this mic out my face without missing a beat..
2 things, lord Dave's vocals are terrible live, and watching this drummer basically play leftie on a right hand kit seriously hurts my brain. Idk why but it seems lazy to me. Especially the ride placement. Oh well it ain't my kit so my thoughts don't matter.
