The sunflowers were amazing. They are my favorite and I was happy to grow some this year in spite of the drought and the groundhog. The meal looked great. Thanks for showing the dumplings - very interesting and looked yummy😊
The Velvet Queen sunflower has opened up just now that the yellow ones are giving up. I am so happy with them :) I will hopefully be able to take seeds for next year, so I can grow more of them. I won't grow them in the same places but I will be growing some, and hopefully many. They made me happy all summer and continue to do so :) Interesting is a nice way to put it :D A mess ;) But delicious, and it works. I prefer it when the dough works out and I just throw them into the water but I really like having the towels as a plan B.
I hate cleaning the towels, so I would prefer making them without but it almost always ends up with me making Serviettenknödel ;) Thanks for being here!
We lay thin wide boards where slugs tend to be. Every morning we turn the boards over and collect slugs. This method and a couple beer traps have reduced the slug population tremendously.
The problem with that is that my entire garden is filled with hide outs. As I don't have a manicured garden, there are boards, buckets, straw, and other slug-happy-places everywhere. I am currently hoping to get them under control with predators, so I've been moving leopard slugs to my garden. They seem to be very happy in my brassica beds.
I did it. Thank you for your inspiration from the berry syrup video and your encouragement to try making grape syrup. It’s sooo good. I’ll try honey when I get a new batch. I decided on banana bread so I could make mini loaves and share with the neighbors 😀 I’m so happy to be all caught up on your videos. Thanks so much for sharing your stories with us.
Yay! Congratulations! Be proud of yourself :) Did you try the syrup yet? How was it? I still make a lot of them with sugar because it is more affordable. But I prefer the taste of the honey version. Yum! Banana bread!
Yes. It was so good. I can’t wait to try it with honey. I froze a bunch of my grapes earlier in the season because I had too many to eat and I’ll make syrup throughout the year. Hooray! I have three flavors of syrup now and can’t wait to experiment more. Thank you
Yeah, slug traps are probably like mouse traps. They catch some but there's way more they don't catch. I think the challenge is to make it so the slugs would rather go somewhere else.
I hope to grow a barrier of slug-munchies at the borders next year. Hopefully, they'll get "stuck" there and not make it into the garden. I also invite in as many leopard slugs as possible. They eat the eggs of the Spanish slug, so I am a big fan of those. But with straw mulch and an open garden design, I'll just have to share a lot, I think.
Hi Kate! Are the dumplings hard to make? They looked delicious. Would love to see how you make them. Your garden looks great and I envy your green beans. I can't seem to get them to grow well, even though I try a different spot each time. Your sunflowers are majestic! So pretty. 🙂
No, the dumplings are actually not hard at all. I will show how to make them soon, so you can try them yourself :) They are a great way to use stale bread ;) I had very weird success with beans. My first batch didn't germinate at all. I later just stuffed some seeds in random places, and they germinated just fine and are now giant plants. I grew all my beans under mulch. Maybe that's worth a try for you.
Everything looking good. Excellent harvest.... Happy. Happy.... Beaming in fact....
Thank you! :) Yes, the garden makes me very content.
@@RootsandCalluses ... Same here. Can't beat getting close to Nature.....

I assume you mean the dumplings ;) In which case: yes, yes, they were.
