I always thought 10% was impossible. Then one day I realized that when I add up all my acts of generosity, including giving to the church. I am now at 17.75%.

Do I trust money more than God? This hits at the heart of my struggle to give more of myself and my life to God. False security is no security at all. I suspect it's a struggle for many people. I am in awe of the idea of reverse tithing! #LifeGoals :)

Tithing works, that’s all I can say. My wife and I started over 30 years ago, after being challenged by Fr Joseph Champlin . He was a Priest from our diocese and has also written extensively about it. We started “cold turkey” and never looked back. We were not wealthy, and still not, but have been blessed immensely by God. There are many experiences that we could share how we lived it, but putting our concerns in Gods hands always worked out. Praise God.

Many years ago my husband and I were at 2% and made the same decision to add 1% a year. Before we wrote the first check, my husband received such a generous raise we were able to go to 10% immediately and had money left over.

This is awesome!!!! Thank you for this challenge, I love to give but I have no idea in comparison to my yearly income. I accept! And will give 1 percent more this year! Thank you 😊

lol just thought...jeeez louise, I bet my Tim Hortons adds up to close to 10 percent a year between my Husband and I. I can easily increase my generosity by cutting down on buying coffee/tea at Tim Hortons, this alone saves me 14 dollars a week! That's over 700 dollars a year :)

Matthew, I was truly touched by that story of the parish priest. Tithing can be a difficult teaching like other generosity habits. WIth that said, I have thought about how I can increase giving to particular causes. Now, I honestly don't know if I can meet the habit mentioned today with my circumstances, but what I will say is that I am thinking of increasing little by little. It's not about who gave the most away monetarily. Look at the woman in the gospel who gave her two coins away. She gave all she had even though it was far less value than the rich people. God isn't tallying up what we give (even though he has all the numbers already). Rather it is what we have and how we can give it back. It is not how much we give, but why we give. Thank you. God Bless. - Juls

I was in the protestant denominations for some years in which I learned that we must tithe. I try to go above that, because there is so much need. I would like to find individual people who can use the various things I have in excess or that I don't use, but I live in an area where I am the person with the lowest income. Please pray for me. I think I'm aware of bad things going on but the justice system is corrupt here, so I'm not sure what to do.

Thank you for this. Great challenge. Early on in my career I struggled, I always told myself when I was better off I would give money. Before I knew it I was better off but had not given back. At the end of last year I started to give weekly to my church. I have upped my giving to other charitable organizations. I will take the challenge and continue to up my giving by 1% every year.

What an incredible challenge! I've actually been thinking about this lately and, quite frankly, I just could not figure out how I could afford a full 10%. This challenge is amazingly simple and I can do this!! Perhaps I'll have to trim back a little but. by the Grace of God, I WILL do this!!! Thanks for such a great teaching Matthew!!

I thought only giving to churches count for tithes and doesn't include other kinds of charity. This video clarified everything.

Love this one!! I have thought off/on over the years - I was just given an unexpected financial gain - and now to have this episode come along. I guess I'm wondering as I see some others here may be - does the 10% tithing include monies given to various charities? If so then I may have been making this reality happen. If anyone can comment to let me know that would be great - definitely want to be my most generous self!!

How do you tithe when your spouse is opposed to tithing for fear of not having enough. We are very capable of tithing, but when I mention it, he always has a reason why we cannot. We own an independent pharmacy and pharmacy has been very hard hit by insurance companies' underpayment for prescriptions
over the past 20 years. Each year is worse than the previous year. I have prayed for him to be freed from his distrust of God's providence with no results.

This certainly is a challenge for people struggling to make ends meet on a fixed income. The prices continue to escalate, our utility bills are outrageous, my husband just spent three months in the hospital due to a life threatening illness. To my surprise, I found that he recently gave a substantial donation to a Christian organization! Perhaps I CAN make a person commitment to do better in tithing.
