Best quote from the book Man in The Mirror “I buy things I don’t need with money I don’t have to impress people I don’t know.”
So hard to remember- thank you
There was a disagreement homeless man I used to see, near a shopping area I used to frequent. I got to know him a little, he told me some of his story, and I would buy him a meal and some other things. He said he was waiting to be accepted for some kind of housing. Every time I'd see him, he'd tell me how things were going, and I'd help him as much as I could. He was a very nice man, and he always seemed so happy to see me. Then I didn't see him for awhile, until one day I did see him. He was doing so much better, was even able to ride a bike, and he told me he now had a place to live. I was so happy to hear that his life and health situation had improve. That was the last time I saw him, and I hope and pray he's doing well. He was a blessing to me just as much as I was to him!
*don't know why my crazy phone typed the word "disagreement" in my first sentence, it doesn't belong there. These phones do weird things sometimes!
Please get a group together and buy socks underwear and t shits for summer for the homeless. Toothpaste and toothbrush and brush or comb, bar of soap with a soap case, nail clipper, washcloth etc. These things can be bought in bulk in many places.
And thanks again Mr Kelly, your talks are really helpful.
I like this idea very much. Thanks
I was also thinking in that bag of needs for the homeless would be nice to put a note in there that says Jesus Loves YOU and I'm praying for you!
Love this idea but may tweak it and use a calendar (flip kind) or book of daily meditation/reflections.
Have a great day 👏 👏 👏
Love that.
Just fantastic words Matthew. Need vs want . The homeless- Jesus himself said what you do for the least of mankind YOU DID FOR ME! God Bless.
Delighted it served you. Hope you will share it with many.
You can't always get what you want, but, if you try some time, you just might find, you'll get what you need. We really should know the difference.
Thank you for referencing the neurophysiology of the brain as it relates to generosity, Matthew. This understanding is often overlooked when encouraging others to make generosity a priority and a habit worthy of developing.
I agree that this is one of the biggest confusions in our lives. I am very fortunate that my parents taught me to recognize the difference from a young age. Am I perfect with it? No. However, I am able to realize the difference between the two when it really matters.
Thanks for sharing with the community.
It is so hard to approach a stranger thanks for the challenge
It is so easy to get confused. about our needs and wants until one day life makes us understand that what we need is not what we thought. We find ourselves needing something we did not pay attention to, or worry about before. Then, we forget about what we want.
No matter how limited my time is each day, I long to see and watch those precious faces that precede and end each message!!! It ALWAYS starts my day off on a positive note!♥
Thanks Brenda🙂
Truly, 1 of the biggest struggles in life - knowing the differences between need and want. It does come to my mind more often as I get older. It truly is a blessing when my wants align with my needs.
I agree. And sometimes wants can be needs depending on the rest of ones circumstances. Very hard.
Amen thanks for the reminder 🙏🏻
It breaks my heart when homeless are treaded bad 😔
No matter how small you think your part is JUST DO IT... it will get better & you will be happier.
Love that.
I cannot describe how much these reflections are helping me in my spiritual journey!
Thanks so much for your teachings every day! I’m looking forward for the next!!
The beautiful message. Everyone is a person with dignity. Thank you so much, Matthew. This tugged of the heart strings.
Amazed that within the past year I have been thinking about this. Like getting rid of stuff I have . Especially clothes. People need it more.
Yes.i have cut back on clothes beyond needs. Though giving clothes is hard because of how do they get to people who need them and not to people who have money but go to thrift stores to buy them.
What a beautiful lesson. Last month, I practiced this when a beggar on the street asked me for some money. I told him I did not have any at that time but after walking past him and checking in my pocket if I did have any loose money, I found I had a dollar and I went back and gave it to him. I then asked the gentleman his name and he told me his name. I didn't ask how he got there but remembering from the Generosity Habit book to ask a homeless person his/her name it seemed to bring some dignity to him. He mentioned to me how he had just ten cents on him and he was very grateful for the $1 I gave him. A measly little story but nonetheless I would like to think asking a person his/her name in such conditions does a world of good.

We have a lot of wants but only need life giving things.
Thank you for your generosity Matthew!
So beautiful. What a great change of perspective on how to look at the homeless. Thank you!!!
Delighted the message is resonating with you.

All I need is the air that I breathe, and to love You 🙏🤔, sounds like a good song 😁 My Dear Jesus 🙏 Viva Cristo Rey 💪🙏
Seek first the kingdom of GOD and His righteousness and all other things will be added to you. Right ? Sounds like what you are saying.
Thank you!
Great message. This puts things into there true focus.
Delighted it served you. Hope you will share it with many.
When my kids were younger (and their cousins who lived with us) whenever they said they needed something I would ask them, "Really?" They learned to seperate needs from wants and would then ask for wants, knowing I took care of needs. I admit I rewarded them by being more likely to buy it if they said they wanted it. Then when times got tough the kids could understand how their needs (basic food, housing, clothing) were met but we had to give up some wants. The good news is when things got better we knew it because we were able to start getting wants again. It really helped the kids, and myself, get through the bad times-looking forward to wants again. Now as adults I am proud that all of those kids live within their means and think through their purchases. They still understand the difference between needs and wants, even if they have changed a little bit and now seperate it out for their children. Honestly did not know where this came from at the time just came to me and I started doing, as a joke I think but I saw how good it was for the kids. Now I am thankful I started doing it because it has helped the kids as adults.
Adorable children 🎀🧢
We need food, water, and shelter; we want delicious food, strong drinks, soft blankets, and lots of clothes/shoes. It requires us to work for our needs every day. As we get older, we have to think about our room and board if we go into a new city away from our parents.
I have been chatting with a new homeless fella on the beach this past week. His name is Chris. At first I said I would pray for him then, the smarter me, said I wanted to pray with him. I asked him if he knew the Lord’s Prayer and Hail Mary. We prayed. I can tell Chris does drugs, so giving money, in my opinion, is not wise. I would much prefer food.
