Just did my headlights yesterday but seeing this video... did 12 coats. Came out super clear. Painted it like any clear light first coat medium heavy 2nd coat heavy heavy 3rd coat and then medium heavy for the rest. Waited about 10-15 minutes b4 coats. Came out really clear as I said but looking to see how to make it last. I would think 2k 2part clear... bought some for my windshield frame but not ready to use it yet so I'm going to try some polish but glad to see this stuff comes of with paint thinner. 🤙
12 coats man! thats insane.. no idea how you got clear.. when mine was so fuzzy.. you are probably a better painter than me.
@@LastHumansGarage I wish I could take and attach a photo. I just got finished painting them with 2k single stage gloss clear and going to polish them with Carnauba car wax that has UV protection. Not sure how the polish will work out though 🤔
As you know; I'm a big fan of yellow fogs haha!
hell yes. too bad i cant get that nice yellow on my GTI
One thought is the penetration and clarity isnt as important, as I do my fogs for 90% looks only. So even if it is not reaching quite as far since it doesnt have a nice clear finish, it still looks nice and yellow.
Duplicolor metal cast paint will give much better results. It lasts way longer and is such a smoother finish. I love me some yellow fogs.
oh really..... ill have to check that out... i didnt like how bumpy this was.
@@LastHumansGarage I've actually got a video on my channel, I used some orange on my corner lights. I just got some yellow to do some led pods here shortly. It's just so much tougher than the craft stuff. Doesnt seem to fade either unlike the craft stuff. Been down this road many times. Subbed to your channel for more content. Thank you sir!
@@arprecisionmodshop-1446 my problem with the sprays was they reduced too much light output and my fogs werent that bright to begin with. but i suppose lamin-x film does the same thing.
this weird metallic one? any pictures of the color on fogs? amzn.to/2F7hF3B
i picked up some Krylon StainedGlass spray & it states right on the can ... "indoor" ... which is probably the reason for fade and why others have used Dupli-Color MetalCast with better lasting results.
cool
Is the 5 coats of Krylon spray more yellow than the Laminex? My just installed Laminex and its a bit green looking (tennis ball green). Im trying to decide if I should take this off and do your Krylon mod.
probably more yellow.. but also less clear.
Clear coat over the yellow?
what if I did yellow bulbs with the yellow tint what would results be like
not any more yellow. i tried it. dont need double yellow.
@@LastHumansGarage but what would happen
Can you use it on plastic?
ya
So, it's water proof and fade proof?
i doubt that..
Hi Mark, I was wondering as I cranked up the light intensity of my reversing lights (tiny LEDs on my 7.0 GTI) by about 25%, using VCDS. I wouldn't be surprised that you could also crank up the intensity level on the fogs! Unfortunately, my GTI doesn't have the fogs, so I can't try it... The thing is, in most cases VW doesn't run whatever hardware on the max, always leaving some room. You may want to tap into it..
very good thought... some day if i have a VCDS ill def look into it.
i also want to see if there is a "brake assist" setting like i had on my MK6. to give even more power braking. it raised my pedal a good half inch to 3/4". i would love that too.
The Mk7 CAN bus infrastructure is light years more advanced than the Mk5/Mk6 CAN bus sytem. As with the MQB platform used for Mk7, VW also uses a "MQB" approach for the control modules and communications in between them. Anyway, the thing is, there are tons more of options to play with. I just hooked up VCDS to Control Module 3 (Brakes/ABS), and can see following Adaptation parameters: brake disk drying, hydraulic brake booster level, counter steer support, engine drag torque control, hydraulic brake assistant, brake pre-fill, straight ahead brake stabilization, expanded electronic differential lock, starting vibration reduction, ABS activation a low speeds, hill start assistant. And the list goes on. And then I haven't even mentioned the Coding chapter yet... (which is a little more dangerous to play with).
"hydraulic brake booster level"
Did you pick up an Euroswitch yet? If you want one for cheap, let me know. I have one that I was using on the MK7, I can send you some shots, but it's like new.
i think i have a fancy light switch already. i know i dont need one with a rear fog..
You could try a clear film and then paint over the film.
paint would stick even worse to clear film i think
Hand polish the yellow paint?
might have been a better idea.. wish i had thought of that.
Use mothers ball with a variable speed drill
Missing the clear coat
k
Use led yellow bulbs away better
ive done all types of fogs. this video is pretty old. i have custom fogs behind my grill now. (yellow cubes,)
@@LastHumansGarage Can you explain what you mean by this? I'm looking into making my MK7 fogs yellow as well. What are yellow cubes and how do the fit into the GTI?
@@jonvarga5569 ua-cam.com/video/AZAjSz_2ogk/v-deo.html
It should be VHT paint - very high temperature
how hot you think fogs get bro..
Vans Yellow Tint jdm
i ordered it for when i get out of the sling. worth a shot since it has really good reviews. but its expensive..
LastHumansGarage That’s true it is overpriced probably just because Japanese
@tisoy909 How many did you need to do 2 fogs? Yea this stuff isn't cheap. Also guys, you can't even buy the yellow krylon stained glass paint anymore
