nothing about SR was good - terrible script and directing . I liked Routh he had great potential and could have been much better with a better director
Brandon Routh gave the best rendition of Clark among all movie and tv superman, He did better his is more natural than the latest Superman only that there was no clear direction for those people on the top. They got a big mistake to take a Director that already have a franchise, writing story not so bad it still can be improved, Brandon have great cast of supporting actors not to mention the Villain Kevin Spacey played as Luthor was way better than the actor now, the only actor there that sucks is kate bosworth her acting is 1 dimensional. I feel really bored on Henry Cavill's acting.
B Miller I actually loved 'Superman Returns'. I saw that movie in theaters when I was around 9 and was enamored with it ! In my opinion, a much better Superman movie than Man of Steel.
I totally respect that the final challenge of the film was an inanimate object. Every superhero movies ends in a big boss battle, it was cool of them to do something different. Being a hero isn’t only about defeating high power villains, it’s about saving the world.
It might be boring, but I still find Superman Returns to be a pretty beautiful movie. See it as a drama instead of an action movie, and it suddenly fits in place. The "superman being awesome" parts are really awesome, too.
This was actually my favorite superman movie, to me it was the most comic accurate superman. I didn’t like Clark Kent and Lois Lane’s interaction in the movie though.
fun fact: in the original comic series, one of clarks powers as a kryptonian was having a much higher functioning brain that basically gave him "super persuasion" - in short, he fooled everyone into not thinking he was Superman which is why he wore no mask...which they realized is way too o.p and it just became a huge meme of itself
the story after Superman Returns: after waking up from his coma, Superman started to lose his powers, then after a while, his powers were completely gone. so he left Metropolis and changed his name to Ray Palmer. he moved to Star City and built the Atom suit
This is honestly my favorite Superman movie. Tho I haven't seen Man of Steel yet. It's a more mature take on the story. And it just feels real. Sure, it slows down once in a while, but that'll only bother you if you're watching for the action. The slowing down parts are very important to a good story, and they give context to the fights and action
Brandon Routh was the best thing in this movie. The fact he got the blessing of Reeves wife was just sweet. He looks like he was built from some bizarre comic book DNA. He's built for this. I wish they'd give him more to work with in Legends of Tomorrow.
Well, a few years later you got your wish, Brandon Routh played Superman again in one of the best parts of the *Crisis on Infinite Earths* Arrowverse crossover... Not a great crossover, the ones before were much better ( *Elseworlds* and *Crisis on Earth-X* in particular), but the great cameos and callbacks to earlier shows/movies were a treat...

+jliller Yeah, the film comes across as too much of a homage than it's own thing sometimes. The worst part is, the cast is pretty good, the visuals are really nice and the first hour is great. After the amazing plane sequence the film just starts going downhill. It's a shame because I can see the potential it has and we know Bryan Singer can deliver great superhero films
I loved this film. The part where Martha Kent is outside the hospital and doesn't go in, I thought showed how tough she is. Gotta be a tough momma to raise Superman.

And the movie gets worse and worse until the end, especially the end. I could rant about BvS for like 3 hours, but I will only say if you liked it good for you, I guess...
Thomas 94 BvS had some really good parts to it. Affleck did Batman really well, and most of the Batman stuff was fairly entertaining. At least it didn't make me literally go to sleep mid movie like Superman Returns did.
I love at the end of the first Arrow, Flash, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow, brandon routh says that kara looks like his cousin. good joke to this movie
+TheComicCrafter -- You're not the only one! I left the theatre mostly satisfied, thinking "There can be good Superman movies again! They have a great cast! They just need to _do better_ next time." TheComicCrafter the reason why superman returns failed for fans not critics is because of these reasons: doing the same lex luthor plan in 1978 just reversed, 95% of the dialogue is the same dialogue, superman getting beat up by three nameless dudes, and superman battling an island of kryptonite there are so many other ideas lex luthor can think but the best you can do is make is real estate again? Now don't get me wrong brandon was great as supes and kevin spacey as well and it's a technically well made movie in terms of editing, cinematography and soundtrack but the story is literally the same from 1977 and they said this movie takes place after superman 2 now if they straight up said it was a reboot nobody would complain but they sold it as a sequel when it really wasn't other than having the kid (it just wasn't enough)
This was the first superman movie that i saw as a kid and i liked the superman character he is not only my favorite DC superhero but superhero. In comix in general and ibsaw the first superman movie (1970s) and i thlight i was good but boring
If they had given it a sequel I think he'd have been more well received, I mean look how many people begged for Batman v Superman to happen with Bale and Routh..
It's obvious this film isn't great it kind of felt it didn't lead up to anything that spectacular but apart from that I love it. I thought it was a good blend of Christopher reeves superman whilst also creating its own style. Kevin spacey was great as lex Luther the cinematography was beautiful and there was also the whole lois, sups and the other guy conflict and all in all I just really really enjoy this film
"The Death of Superman Lives" is a documentary entirely about how the Nic Cage/Tim Burton version got created and then suddenly scrapped. Worth a watch!
+joey4track still more engaging than that shitfest of boredom call MoS. and the cast was much better, it really felt like a sequel to the original movies, flawed as it was. and Spacey was hands down the best live action Luthor ever
one reason and one reason only: It's the same movie as Superman 1977 same dialogue, same shots just with 2006 effects if you are gonna say that this is a sequel to the the donner superman then make a sequel not a movie with the same dialogue and plot. The only thing different was the kid but it wasn't enough different also superman getting beat up by 3 nameless dudes like it was a high school movie really didnt help (it's a well made movie but they literally rehashed superman 1977 only with better effects)
+Velociraptor256 Though technically he didn't lose his girl to Wolverine. She was just heavily tempted and impersonated in a timeline that was wiped out anyway.
after BvS, I really appreciate this movie now: Charming, funny, action sequence that you can actually follow, Superman saving people and caring. And BvS superman was waaaaay more mopey
Superman has been gone for 5 years, Clark Kent has been gone for 5 years. Superman Returns and Clark Kent returns and a newsroom full of reporters that he works with can't connect the dots.
this is the last Superhero film i actually loved. it just amazes me that people find this film boring? this movie was so good and this Superman had humanity.
So having just recently rewatched this film via Netflix (hadn't seen it since it came out in 2006), I gotta say it holds up better than I remember. I watched it after seeing the classics w/ Christopher Reeve (also generously provided by Netflix), and it succeeds as an omage to that franchise while recreating some of the classic moments with superior special effects. Like most superhero movies, it def has 3rd act problems, but overall, this is a solid film. Also, I really liked Routh taking up the mantle. Sure, he didn't reinvent the character in any way, but I also believe Reeve's portrayal of the character is definitive and iconic. Just my opinion tho.
I agree. I think they were trying to finish the storyline of Christopher Reeve's Superman, and pretend Superman 3 and 4 never happened. Why, because Reeve had died after a heroic struggle, and he was a nice man. I think this story did a nice job at that task.
"Left for 5 years to check on some rocks" lmfao :))))) That is a perfect excuse i can use with my girlfriend when i get home late after a few beers with the guys
Still better than MoS. And you're not a dead-beat dad if you didn't know YOU HAD A SON! I think they even address that as when he finally realizes it's his son he basically states he'll never leave him.
again brandon routh was the only good thing about this movie but thats about it brandon was not the problem THE REST OF THE MOVIE WAS i think Henry superman will be like silver age superman (it happened in thw comics right now) when he realized the world mourned him

+joey4track still more engaging than that shitfest of boredom call MoS. and the cast was much better, it really felt like a sequel to the original movies, flawed as it was. and Spacey was hands down the best live action Luthor ever
+joey4track It's my go-to movie when I can't fall asleep. 20 minutes into Superman Returns and I'm out like a light.
This and Ant-Man up for debate for superhero snooze fest
Say: "JON ANSWER THE DOOR!" "SHUT UP MOM I'M DOING AN HONEST TRAILER!"
In honor of Prince say: "I want to be your lover"
Glad he returned to be Kingdom Come Superman 😁👏
3:39 Avengers: Age of Ultron confirmed?
I liked this movie. I still don't see why people don't like it.
Johnny Skinwalker I really can't because people like bVs more and that film is beyond boring.
Johnny Skinwalker You make no sense I feel sorry that people as stupid as you are still on the internet.
+Joseph Higgins animationgamer3466o so nice of you to describe yourself
don't know what to say , you have bad taste in movies . it's ok though , don't feel excluded, many are like you nowadays
one reason and one reason only: It's the same movie as Superman 1977 same dialogue, same shots just with 2006 effects if you are gonna say that this is a sequel to the the donner superman then make a sequel not a movie with the same dialogue and plot. The only thing different was the kid but it wasn't enough different also superman getting beat up by 3 nameless dudes like it was a high school movie really didnt help (it's a well made movie but they literally rehashed superman 1977 only with better effects)
Brandon Routh is an amazing actor, both as superman and the atom!
I liked this movie when I was younger. Still one of my favorites.
I think he is a better Superman than Cavil
+HAguayo yup
No he looked too fake trying to copy Christopher Reeves
Nope but he is a better Atom lol
+Justice Suks Yeah it was the script and the writing. I like Cavill as Superman.
just give henry a good script....and merge the fuckin dc's tv universe with the cinematic one...everything would be alright then
Brandon Routh was hot in those glasses... just saying...
2:18 Don't forget Patrick Dempsey in Enchanted!
+Velociraptor256 Though technically he didn't lose his girl to Wolverine. She was just heavily tempted and impersonated in a timeline that was wiped out anyway.
Τhe airplane sequence is the BEST Superman action sequence .
You can debate with me on this .
The co-creators of Superman aren't both from Cleveland, only one is and the other is from Toronto
Please say: Goodnight sweet Prince.
Superman got his butt kicked by Kumar in this movie worse than Ben Affleck whooped em
Shots fired!
damn son
+The Egg not that kinda party...I was just showing how inferior this Superman was to Snyder's version...a mortal beat em up
after BvS, I really appreciate this movie now:
Charming, funny, action sequence that you can actually follow, Superman saving people and caring.
And BvS superman was waaaaay more mopey
2:27 YESSSS!!!!!!!
Superman has been gone for 5 years, Clark Kent has been gone for 5 years.
Superman Returns and Clark Kent returns and a newsroom full of reporters that he works with can't connect the dots.
+visoredgruntR34 That's why i like MoS Lois Lane. She's not an idiot.
I am the only person on earth who loved this movie.
It was okay.
I loved it
No, you're not.
I love this movie, I was a little kid when I watched it and now it brings me too many memories :'(
I guess you are
the action scenes are okay. the story just sucks... but the bullettime into supermans eye - AWESOME AF
this is the last Superhero film i actually loved. it just amazes me that people find this film boring? this movie was so good and this Superman had humanity.
I can't believe they didn't make a joke about Brandon Routh getting demoted from Superman to The Atom.
+Dean Vance LOL and apparently Metropolis is in New Jersey.
At least this movie had a decent Lex
BvS has a great Lex.
+Abel Juarez nope.
+J.D. Cantu Actually yes. It's been scientifically proven.
+Danny Malzahn he is Lex' son
I prefer jesse lex than the one in this film, at least jesse really portraits the hatred of lex towards superman
Why is Ray Palmer doing in this movie?
Toku Super Hero Games and More with Sentai22 crisis
I actually really like this movie. The sequel Superman and Superman II deserved
AM I THE ONLY PERSON THAT LIKED THIS MOVIE :D!!!???
Even i liked this movie.
Thank you. There is another one
Griffin Puatu lhkh9Q
qQ.1l.w
no I thought it was decent
I really liked it, and it's my second favorite Superman movie.
Do Harold and Kumar! :D
Yessss
Which?
+Robert Reich that doesn't matter
+Quicksilver All of them.
Say - "It doesn't matter what you cook. Just melt cheese on it & it will be awesome!"
Superman returns was underatted just saying
+1
I agree. I think they were trying to finish the storyline of Christopher Reeve's Superman, and pretend Superman 3 and 4 never happened. Why, because Reeve had died after a heroic struggle, and he was a nice man. I think this story did a nice job at that task.
S Tho yeah
This is the best joke I've seen ever.
In retrospect if the idea was to reboot a franchise copying the original they should have gotten j j abrams as the director instead.
Am I the only one who wished for the Batman Begins instead?
Now I really wanna see a HOUSE OF CARDS honest trailer.
Please say 'Can you feel it Mr. Krabs?'
"Closing in on you? oh I can."
The bullet to the eye scense is aways super neat tho
James Marsden also lost his girlfriend to Patrick Dempsey in Enchanted.
"Left for 5 years to check on some rocks" lmfao :))))) That is a perfect excuse i can use with my girlfriend when i get home late after a few beers with the guys
This movie is way better than it gets credit for.
Batman Begins should still get an Honest Trailer in the future. Just saying.
"Man of feels" LOOOOL
Can you please still do Batman Begins? The rest of the trilogy is here already. Make it... Complete.
Still better than MoS. And you're not a dead-beat dad if you didn't know YOU HAD A SON! I think they even address that as when he finally realizes it's his son he basically states he'll never leave him.
Surprised you guys didn't make any jokes about Lex's infamous "WROOOOOONG!!!" line.
That was a meme before people knew what memes were.
1:57 How many "F's" are there in catastrophic???? _Really?_
I can't say enough how much James Spader needs to be the next Lex Luthor.
Love that idea!!!
Brandon Routh is the most underrated Superman.
Superman of Superman Returns is definitivly a better Superman than Superman of Men of Steel.
Because Superman in Man of Steel is like a soldier in boot camp and Superman in Superman Returns in an army veteran in comparison.
again brandon routh was the only good thing about this movie but thats about it brandon was not the problem THE REST OF THE MOVIE WAS i think Henry superman will be like silver age superman (it happened in thw comics right now) when he realized the world mourned him
Someone gets it
