    How is it that you post this video just as I begin sanding down a bike frame to attempt a crystal effect paint job??? I don't even have to watch this video to know your work will turn out AMAZING as usual. I can't wait to see the end result.

    awesome as usual. i did a test with citrus based household paint stripper verses a carbon fiber fishing rod, i found it had no effect on carbon fiber, might want to do a test sample on scrap tube. you might want to look in to custom fishing rod building, its another art form, but unknown outside of the fishing world.

    Old school Martin always liked the effect
    But still find the crystal effect nicer
    Strange how people find it difficult
    All I say just keep practicing on sample boards like i do
    You'll get there

    I think the most difficult step for crystal is to sand the surface to the correct roughness for the droplets to stay and spread on the frame. I always failed to make the solution to say on the surface (I already added oxen oil)

      try to add 2-3 drops of dish soap and see if it helped to stay,last time i try it the crystals was good on the test sheet surface but total crap on the frame..i am trying to make low budget glow green/ glowing blue crystal effect with the same green blue hyper shift top coat but all the tools i have is a crappy 6$ airbrush and cheapest black spray can and spray lacquer ...and i failed crystal effect 3 times for now ..waiting for shift powder delivery and strong nerves for good proper sanding for 4th time…try,fail,improve till i master it and do the job ...🤞(or till i slap simple chameleon carbon fiber wrap if i surender😂 )

      I used nitrogen fertilizer 46% (N) , some polish brand called NAWOZ red/pink Plastik bag, 2kg for 13€ and I used dish soap as well.

    One thing that definitely stops the crystal effect forming is too much humidity / moisture in the air. Works perfect every time in the heated booth and in summer but not great other times. From my personal experience

    I would have just bought the Midnight Disco. No problem if the customer wanted a one of a kind paint job, it's fine to go that rout. But it makes no sense crapping on the salmon paint when the alternative factory color is both nice looking and pretty unique.

    My problem with Crystal effects is that the urea water solution does not stay on the part. 1:1 ratio, few drops of ox gall liquid, I even lightly sanded the part down with 800 grit. This method is much simpler and easier! 🙌

    Hello, please do you know what color it is on the shimano Dura-Ace 9150 series components - derailleur, chainrings?
    For example, some color number, shade, etc. I also paint bicycle frames and refurbish components, but I can't find this color anywhere.
    It seems to me that it is a combination of some chrome color + candy color, or just colored chrome.....
    Thank you very much for your help.

    Marblizer effect. Very old and easy technique. Even easier to wad up the film a bit, flatten, spray the pearl on it and apply to the frame. Then pull and wrinkle a bit, peel and viola.

  • @stennan

    I have a bare aluminium frame that I am thinking of painting (because it literally looks shitty with dirt and decals falling off).
    Question: If I were to apply a crystal layer, could I add additional layers of "crystal" to simulate the layered effects of opal? Not thinking of doing the entire bike, but a portion of the top-tube. Perhaps doing a base-layer, the Crystal, then layer of clear coating, layer of crystal , layer of clear coating?

    • @ETOE
      @ETOE  Рік тому

      You can add as much layers as you like.

I always get little water drops instead of an even coat..i ordered the exact same stuff you used via your links but the ochsengalle doesnt work for some reason, is measured everything with a fine scale so the mixture cant be the problem, any tips?

    I've noticed that you are not masking the BB, headset and suspension linkage holes / ferrules for blasting. Won't that cause some problems (especially for this pressfit BB where tolerances are very small)?

    • @ETOE
      @ETOE  Рік тому

      Depends who does the blasting and which media is used.

      @@ETOE Thanks for the reply. So, I assume that if the blasting will be done via external contractor it is always best to mask these parts.

    I like how you sit there and claim it’s so easy anyone can do it without special tools yet alls you use is special tools. Kinda ignorant if you ask me.

    • @kurtfreundlich-mayne5363
      @kurtfreundlich-mayne5363 3 місяці тому

      I agree, if it’s so easy. Should it not be done with tools and equipment most people would have access to at home? Spray cans and other tools which could be obtained from their local hardware stores? Professional spray guns are not what most people have access to. I can understand for you that you can pull these designs off with your skills, knowledge and equipment. As was also mentioned through the use of lighting. However more successful UA-cam channels try not to sound so arrogant when saying that anyone can do it and that a four year old could do it. You alienate your viewers who don’t have the skills, knowledge and equipment that you have. You have spent 10,000 hours perfecting your craft. If you want people to engage in your content. Maybe remove this kind of behaviour/ego from your channel. Not everyone is as skilled as you and nor will they ever be.
