I met him a couple years ago, playing a small theater in town. I was early to get tickets and saw this old dude in the parking lot till I realized who it was! Shook hands and chatted a minute. Played an awesome show!
I had the Pleasure of meeting Denny in 2017 when he was touring and made his stop in Atlanta (GA). He was Incredibly Nice and Generous and Very Appreciative of his Fans. Denny was Very Personable and a joy to talk with. He signed ALL the Albums and Memorabilia I brought to his Concert (THANKS, Denny !)....Oh, and the Concert was REALLY Good ! I enjoyed his backing band "The Cryers"....SO, SO Sad to hear of Denny's passing....You Will be SORELY Missed, Denny. Prayers and Condolences to his Wife, Family, and Friends & Acquaintances.
Very sad news. Denny Laine is one of the most underrated rock and roll heroes of the 60's and the 70's. Go Now is a pop classic and his Wings contributions were always stellar. RIP Mr. Laine.
So, so glad I went to go see him play an intimate, acoustic show this past Feb. He sounded great and told many funny, interesting stories. An unsung hero. RIP DENNY
Another great loss! Denny and Paul wrote one of my all time favourite songs, "Mull of Kintyre", always get goose bumps when I hear those bagpipes. And "Back to the Egg" is in my top ten albums ever. RIP
YES. Always nice to see/hear it when Back To The Egg gets some love. Sorely underrated record. The weird thing about this is that I JUST saw him last night or the night before on PBS. He played "Go Now" on a show called British Beat or something like that. It had a number of Brit acts from the 60's playing live. No Words, so to speak, other than rest in peace and job well done, my friend...
Denny left us on the 5th of December: 50 years to the day after the release of Band On The Run...RIP to a great musician, and by all accounts a great guy.
He was a huge part of "WINGS OVER AMERICA." We saw them at the Chicago Stadium 1976 . Another musician gone , but lives on forever . 🎶 Mull of Kintyre , classic tune......
I was fortunate to see the Wings Over America tour in September of 1976 at the Forum in L.A. While of course Paul McCartney was the main attraction, it was obvious Denny Laine was an integral part of Wings, and it was certainly no letdown when took the spotlight on Go Now and Time to Hide. One of the greatest concerts I've had the privilege to witness. RiP Denny.
I saw the movie a few years ago on cable. I was not a wings fan, but they really impressed me. Jimmy McCullough was really impressive. I googled to see what he was up to and found out he died very young unfortunately. Cool you got to see him live.
@jcollins1305 My parents bought me the tickets to this concert for my 21st birthday because they knew how much I loved Paul (and the Beatles). It was more than 2 hours of glorious rock'n'roll that I will never forget and the band that Paul put together - including Denny Laine, Jimmy McCullough, drummer Joe English, and an excellent horn section was first rate. Even Linda McCartney got a lot of love from the audience. It was magic.
WOW! Last night for some reason pulled Wings 1st album Wild Life out of the collection and listened to the entire thing for the first time in decades. Under rated album for sure. So sorry to lose another great talent.
A sad day today with the news of Denny Laine's passing. I saw him many years ago when he played a gig with his band in my hometown here in the UK. A tremendous Musician/Songwriter and of course throughout the seventies he was Paul McCartney's "Wing Man" if you'll pardon the pun. He, Linda and Paul remained the nucleus of the band as others came and went. His passing comes only 24 hours since we got the news of 50th anniversary releases for Band On The Run in Feb next year, and of course he played guitar and sang back up on George Harrison's tribute to John, "All Those Years Ago" alongside Paul and Linda. My condolences to his wife and family at this time. God bless you and thank you so much for your music Denny, we're gonna miss you. I'm off to find my copy of Japanese Tears and give it a spin........
Saw Denny Laine live with the Moody Blues in 1964, Ritz Ballroom, Skewen. South Wales. Fantastic vocalist/guitarist. It was obvious he would make a massive contribution to the musical genre of that magical time.
Wow, the CONSTANT Radio Songs of MY youth!💪😤 GREAT homage.💙 In 1976 my big bros and I waited overnight for tickets at the L.A. Forum; the "Wings Over the World" tour was my (I was 15) first BIG concert! WHAT A SHOW!!!🙆♂️ (The USC Trojan newspaper did a SUPER write up!) A year later I caught the Zep there, it paled in comparison.🤦♂️I played their music for MY own kids!💙 I can STILL listen to Wings EVERY day, timeless!🕊 RIP Denny Laine.🙏
Denny Lane. I grew up on Paul McCartney and Wings. Band on the Run Album was one of my Favorites and I love his Guitar Sounds on it. God Bless you Denny!
Denny Laine was such an integral and important member of Wings. I always loved his vocals and his style. As a kid, when I got old enough to buy my own records, London Town was one of the first albums I ever bought, and the song "Deliver Your Children", written and sung by Denny is my favourite song on the album. It's also the one song by Wings that lives rent-free in my head on a weekly basis, and I often sing the song to myself when no one else can hear. Rest in peace, Denny Laine. You were great and will be missed.
Thanks for the tribute Pete, Denny was a MONSTER musician! Just gutted this week over losing Denny and Myles Goodwyn in the same week-God bless them.🙏🏻🎧💔
Glad you mentioned "The note you Never Wrote." from Speed of Sound. I really loved that song when I first bought the album upon release. Like you, I was a big Wings fan and even joined the Wings Fun Club. Time to Hide is often mentioned as a Wings Classic. London Town is Denny's album, he really shines and contributes for the trio album. His musicianship was steady and great, a great people's person and no wonder he got along with all Band members. Thank you for the nice tribute and comments.
Thank you, Pete. Denny had a gorgeous voice, and was a delightful guy. Great (?) timing to pass on the day that Band on the Run turns 50 years old. Much love to all who knew and appreciated him.
I received Wild Life (and Sometime In New York City) as a young maybe 9 or 10 year old for Christmas back when they were new-ish. I've known his name all of these years. He stuck with Paul for a decade or so, and what a decade it was. I bet it wasn't always an easy ride. Love his vocals and everything he did. Blew my mind seeing him whip out the harmonica on WOA. Deliver Your Children and Mull of Kintyre are among his many highlights. I dig Mumbo too!
Great tribute to Denny, and thank you for pointing out his great work with Paul McCartney and Wings, but I would also strongly recommend Denny’s lone album with The Moody Blues, “The Magnificent Moodies,” which includes the big hit “Go Now.” Denny’s awesome singing, songwriting, guitar and harmonica playing are all over that album, and the music on the album is just plain fun, half original material and half cover songs, played to pop and r&b perfection by the original version of The Moody Blues, prior to “Days Of Future Passed.” Wonderful album. RIP Denny Laine. 💙
Earlier this morning, before hearing this news, I was thinking Band on the Run came out right around 50 years ago. Well I just checked. Band on the Run was released in the US 50 years ago TODAY! RIP Denny.
Denny was in a group called Balls (terrible name) with Trevor Burton and at one point Alan White of Yes before he joined Wings. I've been listening to that album again and kind of like it. Denny was a great musician, singer and songwriter. RIP Denny. ❤
I got into Wings very late (last few years) but after learning about Denny, and listening to many of their songs, it became clear that he was an extremely important part of that band, if not, a total equal to Paul McCartney. Rest In Peace sir.
Denny was one of the most UNDERrated musicians of his time. He was one of the greatest. I remember when i was a kid and heard his voice singing the line "if we ever get out of here", on Band on the Run. I thought it sounded like John Lennon. I was really hoping we would see a reunion of Paul and Denny in the near future. Maybe it seems silly, but i've been choked up all day since his wife posted about his passing on social media. He made the world a better place
It doesn’t seem silly at all. He was a part of our lives and will remain so, in the music. Paul picked Denny because he wanted a partner to “sing nose to nose” with, like he did with John. I think he made a great choice. R.I.P., Denny.
“Deliver Your Children” from “London Town” was always my favorite Laine song in fact to me personally that song sounds very Lennonish, sounds like something Lennon wouldve wrote for his first 2 solo albums…
RIP, thanks for these heartfelt words Pete. A lot of sad losses recently- I was wondering if to mark the passing of Shane McGowan you might do a Pogues/UK connection episode?
You may be right but in the best way Pete is very hard to predict - I didn't expect him to be a big Cardiacs fan or feature the Stranglers no the show @@crusheverything4449
He always came across as so unassuming even though he was at the top of his game. He was a bit like Mick Ronson who also unfairly suffered financially when they were the mainstay of the talent. Denny ..Gone but not forgotten......
They don't make 'em like that anymore. Saw the Moodies in San Antonio, Texas, in the early Seventies. They played until they couldn't play anymore then they all sat down on the edge of the stage and chatted with us. Damn.
I guess it's that old trope of 'in threes'. First Geordie from Killing Joke last weekend (why no tribute Pete?), then Myles from April Wine, and now Denny from Wings. Sad times for us older guys...
Wings over America is an absolute classic…..R.I.P
I met him a couple years ago, playing a small theater in town. I was early to get tickets and saw this old dude in the parking lot till I realized who it was! Shook hands and chatted a minute. Played an awesome show!

Thanks Pete for paying tribute to this amazing talent.
A very thoughtful and well done tribute. Rip Denny

Paul and Denny were like Batman and Robin;
crazy how Wings bubbled near the surface for most of the 70's.

Great comparison Ziggy. Wings wouldn't have been Wings without him.
@@steverogers2635 Aye Capn!
Sorry to hear this. An integral part of Wings. Nice tribute.
Can't say I've ever been a massive Wings follower but always sad when we lose a talented guy like Denny. RIP...
That was a heartfelt and well presented tribute to a great man…RIP
He was a huge part of "WINGS OVER AMERICA." We saw them at the Chicago Stadium 1976 . Another musician gone , but lives on forever . 🎶 Mull of Kintyre , classic tune......
Such sad news. A gifted musician, songwriter and contributed to so many hits.
Sad news. Band On The Run was one of the first LPs I bought. Very talented and much underrated. RIP Denny
Very, very underrated musician/singer. Co-wrote "No Words" a Beatles type tune, one of my faves........😢
It’s sad to lose an extremely talented musician. He will have make a great band in heaven.
Well Done tribute. He was a Great Musician.
Pete,
Great show, as always…nobody does these types of tributes better than you :)
Loved you Denny! You were one of my childhood heroes! Wings my favorite band in the 1970’s. RIP!
I've just listened Time to Hide (my personal favourite from Denny) as a tribute to him. Such a sad sad loss🙏
Great song for sure!
I also love - The Note You Never Wrote
It always amazes me that McCartney sold over 30 000 000 albums with his second band. It's a pretty amazing catalogue. RIP
R.I.P. Denny Laine an underrated guitarist and vocalist
It's very sad to loose Denny Laine,we will miss him. Thanks Pete to give Tribute to Denny Laine.
Very sad. Loved his performances and contribution to Wings especially prevalent on the Wings Over America gigs and soundtrack.
RIP Denny. "Spirits of Ancient Egypt" was a great song.
Saw him a couple of years ago in a Beatles tribute with Todd Rundgren, Christopher Cross, Jason Scheff and Joey Molland. Fun night.
Denny was inducted into the Rock-and-Roll Hall of Fame in 2018 with The Moody Blues, at the behest of Stevie Van Zandt.
An integral part of one of my favorite bands, Wings. RIP my musical friend.

Did Jimmy McCulloch perform Medicine Jar at that concert?
@MichaelHartman-qt4mp
Yes, he did. One of my favorite songs from Venus and Mars. Gone way too soon at age 26.
And the concert was actually in June 1976, not September. You'll have to excuse my faulty memory - but it was 47 years ago.
