Very nice! I’ll be making a shade for my Garmin unit to make it easier to see while I’m scanning for the lost Navy bomber in Lake Michigan. Thanks, James!

I like your rub rail, very good idea. I was wondering about one and what material could be used. You solved that issue for me. The same goes for the sun shade. Good stuff, keep it coming.

Awesome! The hose works fantastic for a diy rub rail. A couple of weeks in, and it is still going strong and protecting my hull! Gorilla tape has no issue sticking in the salt water, as long as it is applied dry. When it gets chewed up, just add more! Easy way to keep your yak in good shape!

Non reflective screen protectors help as well.

Kydex would make a good sunshade, and it's just as easy to work with. Not just for gun holsters..lol.

Good sun visor idea, sure beats paying stupid money for a factory one. I'm doing the same as you did, thanks.

Terrific video! LOVE using a tote top as the material.
What is the clamp-style mount that you use for your HB?

You can get 1/8 inch Black Plexi glass also. You can order online for less than the tote and can also be melted with a heatgun of stick in the oven on a cookie sheet. ( ask or run by the wife first LOL!) Also I used some PVC tape that is Super strong and you wont have to worry about it blowing off when on the trailer. Has Anyone found a goo way to still be able to use the Silicone cover and have a shade like this? Only way I can think is use Velcro.. Great Video.. Kudos!

First off - I like the shade idea. I've been thinking about what I'm gonna do for my helix 8. I think it's a little wider than yours so I may need a bigger tote, but no big deal. A couple of thoughts as I watched you making that...first, you mentioned about the plastic turning shiny. It didn't look like the shininess showed on the other side so if cosmetics is a concern, maybe bend them in the other direction after heating so the shiny part is on the inside face of the shade once done. And regarding your adhesive selections. If that carpet tape doesn't work out, maybe some of those 3M strips? They stick pretty good and have the velcro type attachment so you could remove the shade pretty easily too. They come in black as well so they would blend right in. Not sure if they'd work or not, but maybe I'll give it a try once I make my shade.
How do you like that Rapala measure stick? I was looking at those folding trough style ones but noticed there are cheaper options like the rapala that doesn't have the trough and wondered if it was worth the extra money on the trough style.

Thanks! Cosmetically, yes that is a great idea. I didn't even think of that. Luckily, it doesn't bother me on my setup, but for others who want that really "clean" look, I would recommend you idea! The carpet tape seems to be holding strong so far, it is ridiculously adhesive. The only concern I have is on hot summer day, the glue melting. If that happens I may go with another option. I tried another type of tape (not 3m) and it wasn't nearly as good. The 3M may be a great option, though. I thought about velcro, but I personally don't have a reason to remove the shade and would rather it stay on so I don't lose it hahah. However, for anyone wanting to remove it, velcro is a great choice I think!
I love the Rapala bump board, it works awesome for the cheaper price. I love how long it is, but it breaks down to such a short size. Much easier for me to have stored in the Kayak. I have to say, I don't have experience with any other boards (usually used a tape measure before) so I cannot accurately compare, but I really like the Rapala and it is cheap. I did drop it in the water once, and it sunk. Luckily I was able to recover it with a net (shallow water) but it does not float. That may be one disadvantage over some that do float. Could always leash it off to the boat, too though.
      Hope this helps!

@@ckwoutdoors right on - yeah I saw that some say they float but also read that they didn't actually float haha. Maybe tethering is the answer either way :-).
I hear ya on the concern of the carpet tape getting oozy and soft, especially down there in the sun. It won't be quite the same as here in AK, eh? For the 3M strips, I meant something like this just in case it wasn't clear. They have them in different sizes and the adhesive backer is a little cushiony/flexible so that might also help to adhere better to the surface.
