ok, update. Gearshift is smoother now the gearstick goes though a rubber boot rather than though a gaping hole in the old boot. Seems a bit quieter and there's no heat coming out of the console. I'd call that a win.
Awesome video mate, I need to do this in my Jeep
Thanks for that!
I stalled my TJ in the middle of a water crossing the other day and ended up taking on a bunch of water... The water was coming in to the cab up through the gear shift boot and running down from underneath the centre console moulding. Maybe I might look at replacing the shift boot as a method of increasing water resistance?
oh god, don't you hate that. Would certainly help!
Super video. What did you use for noise insulation? The one you removed looked like it had insulation on it when you pulled it out. TIA.
I only put that insulation on the old one to try and stop the heat coming through the ripped boot.
@@DarrylSheather Thanks. I'll be following your video. How did you get the soft boot cover seated and then reattached to the lower inner shift boot? My soft boot is ripped. I have a replacement. TIA!
Hey Mate, I bought a used 2006 TJ with an aftermarket 5 speed transmission. Would the OEM replacement boot work on a 5 speed transmission?
Depends on where the stick comes through the floor, if its in the same spot it would be fine but.....
Hey mate
Where did you get the inner shift boot?
Might need to replace mine but can’t find anywhere like yours.

Darryl Sheather thanks mate 😊
@@DarrylSheather HI mate. I know it is a few years since this post, but Quadratec is sold out. Any other clues? Same TJ as yours (06).
@@mattygriffo7133 search the part number on eBay.com. Mopar 52059661AC
Hello! Would this part fit a 2004 TJ?
No but one of these might help you. www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/jeep,2004,wrangler,4.0l+l6,1425901,interior,shift+boot,786
This boot almost always fails. I just did this replacement. Quick and easy unless you have rusted hardware. $79 USD free shipping from Quadratec. $300 AUD$, Wow!
Still cheaper and easier than getting it here
Close to $200 in 2022! Inflation, gah!
You skipped the part what are the 8 mm bolts around the four-wheel-drive shift don’t back out. I bet you cut them out
No, where I live we have no issues with rust or the like. Body bolts on the Jeep comes out like they did when new.
@@DarrylSheather not a rust problem
@@jasonballenger2505 I just backed all of mine out without a single problem
@@patrickmcnair1965 That is really good for you man. I got all the ones around the gearshift fine. it’s the two that are on the four-wheel-drive shifter. They have a hex head with like a rivet backing. That doesn’t allow them to unscrew. On mine. So since on that boot piece one has the holes has an opening and the other one doesn’t. I just cut the top one closer to the dash off.
So then when I went to go put the new boot in I just pride the four-wheel-drive one up and shoved it in there.
