My husband (62 years old) has glaucoma. He was diagnosed 11 years ago. One eye he lost over half his vision ( when he was initially diagnosed) and the good eye is progressing slowly with the glaucoma. Doc recommended trabeculecotomy sugery on the bad eye, but we are holding off due to the cons -- higher risk of infection and not being able to do many outdoor things due to dust, dirt, bacteria and etc. My question is this: Do you think a low carb diet (Keto or Carnivore) would be helpful with glaucoma pressures and eye health? We have been doing a mostly animal based diet, very low carb for a few years. We are thinking, "If it's good for the body it'll be good for the eyes as well." Would love to see a video on diet and glaucoma. And aren't many glaucoma patients diabetic? Thanks for a great channel with such good information. We are blessed to be able to have people like you sharing your knowledge with us. I'm going to order a nano dropper too. THANKS>
The last time I took it I got a stomach ache. But I may just need to ease myself into it. But there is some research supporting a higher bioavailability of DHA from krill to our neural cells as it can more readily cross the blood brain barrier and the blood retinal barrier.
The fast flush Niacin leads to basically no liver problems while the slow release version can lead to liver issues. If taken in higher doses I would add magnesium and a B-Multivitamin. There is a good chance that the blood sugar issue after long term supplementation is connected to a B1 (thiamin) deficiency which gets used up if one B-vitamin is taken alone. For the mitochondria to function properly long term, all B-vitamins have to be available to the cell.
N.B. Regarding the Nanodropper ... it says "it is not compatible with any preservative-free bottles/vials." Also, you need to throw it away when you have finished your bottle of eye drops - and buy a new one each time.
At the age of 70, I successfully reversed my diabetes and glaucoma by adopting a strict ketogenic diet. Consequently, I am no longer dependent on medication for either condition.
This is very interesting! I have a very strong family history of glaucoma and have no doubt I will get it one day. Would be interesting if there were new treatments by the time I develop it. Fortunately the type of glaucoma that runs in my family is easily controlled with eye drops.
Hi And Thank You So Very Much For Sharing I’ve Been Blessed Not To Have Glaucoma The Only Thing I’m Experiencing Is Dry Eyes.I Found Significant Relief From Using Ocusoft Wipes And Systaine!!Your Videos Have Helped Me Tremendously.
I used to have horrible dry eyes. 60+ years old. Until my specialist told me to use a very warm (hot as you can handle it) Put one or two drops of a gentle shampoo or body wash on the cloth, place on one eyelid at a time, keep it there for at least one full minute. Remove, & rinse very well with cool water. Shower is a great place to do this. Or, do it twice a week as a single treatment. YES! It does work. Seems our oil secretion ducts within our eyelids, where eyelashes come out of is where the real problem is. I hope this will help you.
That makes me so so happy to hear!! I am planning a bunch of content around dry eyes to come out soon (reviews of new medications, procedures, eye drops etc)
Inositol hexanicotinate is flushing niacin without the flush. Enzymatic action slowly releases the niacin from an inositol ring. Any flushing is minor. BTW: You can take folic acid to stop the flushing. Aspirin also works. ...but folic acid is faster and more effective. 🙂
If you read some of the comments you'll find that they recommend taking the flush niacin slowly a bit at a time throughout the day (to minimise flushing) and ramp up the dose over a period of months. Using enzymatic action is the same thing... only the release is even more gradual... so the flushing is minor. You an easily take 500 mg (or more) from day one if you're using the inositol hexanicotinate form. The point of niacin is to reduce intraocular pressure. Flushing and discomfort is just an undesirable side effect. 🙂
I was told by my cardiologist to take NON flushing niacin. I felt like my body was on fire literally, and my husband said I was blood red over my entire body. And this happened about 4 hours after I took the first dose. I was miserable. Cold showers helped. Took a day or so to return to semi normal. Be very careful!!!!!
Thank you! I've lost almost 95% of my vision in both eyes due to open-angle glaucoma. What advice can you offer to help prevent further vision loss so I can preserve my remaining 5%?🙏
My hubby's gma got a surgery where they I think burned some of the glands that that were creating the pressure. It's only been just over a week and within a couple days the pressure went down to a high normal and would continue to go down.
Not sure what happened to my comment I’ve just sent. Check your pharmacy if you can buy preservative-free eye drops OMK1-LF. The main ingredient is supposed to help preserve the eye nerve. It was recommended to me by a glaucoma specialist in Europe.
I've been following this research for over a year and have mentioned it to both of the Glaucoma specialists I see. Sadly neither had heard of this! In reading through the studies, it looks critical to get a liver function test as a small number of people develop significant liver damage. I also read that the doses are many times higher than a normal consumption and people with high B3 levels have higher rates of all cause mortality. I hope the research develops further and standardized programs can be developed. As I told my specialist, I don't want to lose more vision waiting for published guidelines.
Liver enzymes often rise in the first week of taking niacin... and then they go back down to normal. It's just the liver starting to work properly again... and flushing out a heap of toxins. 🙂
Read Dr Hoffer, Saul and Foster- Niacin the real story. Big pharma have backed a lot of studies into discrediting the use of Niacin as it makes them no money. It is a free downloadable book, worth looking at a different opinion on Niacin also rather than being overly cautious
This sounds a bit off but I've been taking NIC for months and absolutely noticed an improvement in vision. I stopped for a while and my vision was not as sharp. I do not have glaucoma and I don't were glasses. But, I absolutely could tell a difference. I don't want to mention the brand because that may take away from the legitimacy of it. Believe it or not, I originally thought I was buying NMN and some youtuber said that helped his vision over 6 months. Best of luck folks!

I hope this info helps a bit, and that you can maintain good eyesight in future. Our eyes are an extremity and part of our brain, so I am aware that good circulation is needed for someone like me who gets cold easily and maybe good circulation does not reach the eye so well especially when resting at night, hence my having low tension glaucoma which is sad as I found out too late. I never had high ocular pressure but still got damage. All the medications can do is keep the pressures as low as possible. I don't believe there is actually a treatment for low tension glaucoma, as far as I know.
@vivellaz -Please look up studies of high dose vitamin D and Gluacoma.
Great information .
Good job DR eye health as all ways thank you 👍
My husband’s glaucoma specialist okayed my husband trying the dosage in the Columbia study you mentioned, “Nicotinamide and Pyruvate for Neuroenhancement in Open-Angle Glaucoma: A Phase 2 Randomized Clinical Trial.” Hope it helps because the 4 rx eyedrops he’s using haven’t been able to control it. Glad to hear about the larger trials.

Happy to hear that! Was it pretty fast and easy?

Not to be negative, but I did the laser treatment as well. Had good results then eye pressure went back up around the 2 years later. I'm now on drops hoping that there is no further bad news at next follow up visit. I am 55. I do not have diabetes and normal to low blood pressure with no family history of glaucoma.
@@christinee8353 There is no guarantee for anything ,we do not know what will happen in the future 🙏. I did speak to the Dr . about the supplement , in his opinion since the the laser I do not need them .
At the age of 47 doctors noticed macular degeneration in one of my eye ,a was prescribed PreserVision - Areds 2 + Omega 3 Fish Oil I take them "religiously " for 22 years . The sickness never progressed - I do see fine . Supplements like PreserVision by Bausch+ Lomb ( German company ) work wonders for any eyes condition I recommend . It's good that you found this study. The question is, why would the pharmaceutical industry use vitamins when their billions depend on selling drugs? I would even wonder how they allowed this study to be published. Thanks for sharing.

THANKS>
Thank you for this information you are doing are great job.
Another great informative vid 👍 - What’s your take on Red Krill oil?
The last time I took it I got a stomach ache. But I may just need to ease myself into it. But there is some research supporting a higher bioavailability of DHA from krill to our neural cells as it can more readily cross the blood brain barrier and the blood retinal barrier.
Thanks Dr Allen 👍❤️

Mine too!
I take B complex daily plus extra niacin. It works for many things. Thx Doc
B complex has niacin.
What did it do for you?
Thankyou for this information.helps .
This information will help my mom, thank you!
Hello do you know if thyroid or mthfr can cause high eye pressure. Some stuff I read show yes and no. Maybe you can make a video 😊thanks
Fantastic! liked and Subscribed!
My parents and two grandparents had glaucoma, but mine is worse, so don't assume anything. Best wishes to you.

Put one or two drops of a gentle shampoo or body wash on the cloth, place on one eyelid at a time, keep it there for at least one full minute.
Remove, & rinse very well with cool water.
Shower is a great place to do this.
Or, do it twice a week as a single treatment.

Seems our oil secretion ducts within our eyelids, where eyelashes come out of is where the real problem is.

Flushing Niacin is what you want when taking Niacin, opposed to non flushing. Extremely beneficial for cardiovascular
🙂
@@MichaelCzajka
I thought the flushing was the point here.
🙂
@@suzanneemerson2625 it is
I was told by my cardiologist to take NON flushing niacin. I felt like my body was on fire literally, and my husband said I was blood red over my entire body. And this happened about 4 hours after I took the first dose. I was miserable. Cold showers helped. Took a day or so to return to semi normal. Be very careful!!!!!
Every part! Thank you for all of the information.
Thanks for watching!
Great info! I was just diagnosed with glaucoma, so I will be checking out B3 supplements and will tell my opthamologist about it.
🙂
All cause mortality goes down when you take niacin.
:-)
Read Dr Hoffer, Saul and Foster- Niacin the real story. Big pharma have backed a lot of studies into discrediting the use of Niacin as it makes them no money. It is a free downloadable book, worth looking at a different opinion on Niacin also rather than being overly cautious
Hi Dr. Allen,
Good to see you wearing your -5 Diopter glasses. Look nice.
Hey, thanks
This sounds a bit off but I've been taking NIC for months and absolutely noticed an improvement in vision. I stopped for a while and my vision was not as sharp. I do not have glaucoma and I don't were glasses. But, I absolutely could tell a difference. I don't want to mention the brand because that may take away from the legitimacy of it. Believe it or not, I originally thought I was buying NMN and some youtuber said that helped his vision over 6 months. Best of luck folks!
I also noticed a reduction in floaters..

can eye massagers be used safely on eyes that have had cataract removed Thanks much. DHall
Yes, eye massagers can typically be used on the eyes after cataract surgery. However, most doctors will say to wait till the cataract surgery is fully healed.
@DoctorEyeHealth do you think it would be possible to make a video on (illusory) palinopsia aka. visual trails? I suffer from this alongside mild visual snow, pattern glare, and positive afterimages, and I'm trying to find out what has caused it still

So, is Nad+ good for this or is the conversion too far down the line for this benefit?
Anything for cataracts yet ?
My doctor told me i have high pressures in my eyes. I also happen to have crazy thick corneas which he said can cause false readings if I understood correctly. I forget the actual cornea measurements but I do remember they were way far beyond average and my doctor was even surprised. To confound things more, I was also told I have a large optic nerve. I've been quite worried about it. Supplementation doesn't sound like a bad ideas to me.
Time to get another opinion, preferably from a doctor who has experience with thick corneas.
large optic nerve? like in swollen?
you might check your diet and also things which improve nerve functioning, like thiamin and cholin (egg yolks) and b12 (+folat+b6).
@meggi8048 No. Anatomically, it is large. It correlates with susceptibility to damage resulting from glaucoma.

I started doing acupuncture about a month ago and I've found that it has significantly reduced my eye pressure. I have an iCare home tonometer so I am able to check my pressures multiple times a day. apparently the drainage is blocked.
