It amazes me that any of the doctors we go to do not tell us this simple information. Why is that? I specifically asked if there was anything I could do diet or exercise wise to prevent glaucoma and to lower my eye pressure. I was told, “No, it has nothing to do with diet or exercise.” I knew that was wrong because every single medical condition or state of health in general has to do with diet and exercise! I no longer go to that ophthalmologist and “eye care center.”
Thank you very much for these videos, Dr. You are saving a lot of eyes! ❤

Thank you for your video on preventing glaucoma. I am in my early 70's and was diagnosed with open-angle glaucoma many years ago. My pressure is under control with eyedrops but I want to know what else I can do to save my sight. Your video was very insightful and I will take your advice to heart. Many blessings to you and yours from Oregon.

I was diagnosed with high iop and lost 40% vision in one eye, it was terrifying but decided to take control. First I purchased an iCare home tonometer and started on a paleo diet where I stopped eating all grains, processed foods and refined sugars. I now only eat lean meats, legumes, raw fruits and vegetables and raw nuts. My iop dropped from the high 20's to 15-16 without the use of drops or surgery. My eye doctor was disdainful but can't deny my low readings. I am not that young either, I was in my 60's when I got my diagnosis and the dietary shift at my age was not easy but it has not only been good for my eyes, my overall health is much better. If you can't take it to such an extreme please practice portion control with healthier foods, overeating must stop and don't attempt without a home tonometer because you need to know if your pressure is too high.

Holistic practitioners agree that exercise is crucial, and are also recommending acupressure massage techniques and rebounding to prevent or reverse glaucoma. Your mention of Vitamin B12 is very helpful because I've tested positive for MTHFR double zygote so I take Methylcobalamin daily. My mother had glaucoma and I'm trying to prevent it - for years have been told my optic nerve "looks funny" but no pressure problems to date. (I'm 70 now :)

Informative video, thanks. My "suspicious glaucoma" with pressure 17-18 changed to "glaucoma", pressure 20-22, after 8 yrs; and after another 2 yrs "pseudoexfoliative" was added. Started latanoprost & gingko a year ago and got pressure down to 7-8, except for my last visit--back to 22-24. I hope the increase was due only to my nasal congestion which has finally subsided now that pollen counts are down again. Side-sleeping didn't work with nasal congestion as I immediately felt eye pressure and had to lie on my back again.

Such a helpful video. Thank you doc! I was diagnosed with Glaucoma last summer, it was a rapid on-set. I was doing DIY projects which included spray painting and carrying 2 tons of pavers(3 at a time). When I went to the specialist for emergency visit, I told them what I was doing before the eye pressure build-up and they dismissed them. I was told to use the pressure meds until my eyes rejected them after 6 months.

Lifting heavy things can affect your eyes. When I gave birth to my son, I pushed so much that I broke many capillaries in both eyes and they were bloodshot for 5 weeks. That was many years ago. I told my eye doc and she said it was not relevant to glaucoma. I don't agree. It could have done some damage that started the glaucoma. It was like lifting weights. I died and was brought back but my baby was fine, very healthy. I just think it is common sense that diet and exercise are important in glaucoma therapy, besides the eye drops.

Use decaf green tea once or twice a day, it lowers IOP. Don't drink more, as decaf still has some caffeine. I read this in a research study on glaucoma. Google your questions and it sends you to these research studies. I feel that I will not learn anything from my doc, so I do my own research.

I am German born and was raised there until I moved to the US decades ago, and yes Germany has socialized medicine which means you have to go on a list for surgery like my brother who had to wait a solid year to have his hip replaced and my other brother had to fly to Switzerland to get his heart valve replaced because the wait time to have it done would have been to long and he would have died. I still have major anxiety going to the dentist here in the US because of the lousy experiences I had in my young years in Germany. I believe you saying that your eye doctor won’t spend any time with you because it all comes down to money because after all it is socialized medicine and the doctor only gets paid a minute amount of money for seeing a patient, so the more people he can see in one day, the more money they can make. People here in America often complain about doctors here and healthcare system but they are totally clueless about how good we have it here compared to other countries when it comes to healthcare.

What can be done to an eye lost as a result of glaucoma. So many surgeries and implants has been done and yet the vision is lost. Any other solution.
2ndly, can the patient stop using eye drop since vision is lost in that eyes?

Unfortunately, vision damage from glaucoma is typically irreversible. Sometimes, glaucoma eye drops are still used for eyes without vision to prevent pain from increased eye pressure. I hope this helps.
