He’s a false rape/sexual harassment victim that ruined his life without giving him a chance to explain himself or looking at the details of the case. It’s the same story for many other people. He’s not owed a spot but he could feel rightfully cheated of a potential long career
As a different control group, I'd love to see an analysis of the success of each runner-up of the Ray Guy Award, if we even know who those players were.
@@Ynkno Well, someone had to be not weak - where did the good NFL punters come from? They couldn't have been too "average" in college or they would have never been drafted.
@@L4JPThere's a simple explanation: Many of them weren't drafted. I just checked the NFC and only half of the starting punters were drafted. At least of those who were starting at the end of the season. I think two(?) teams made a change partway through the year. I'd check the AFC, but I couldn't find a list and had to look up all 16 individually. Teams bring in multiple guys and have them go through tryouts. Some teams may repeatedly choose to not draft a punter and only find one that way.
The NFL seems to give second chances to players actually convicted of crimes. Matt Araiza has been acquitted and should be given another opportunity at the League.
Great vid. College is different than the pros. Everyone is bigger, faster, stronger and it’s their job to play. The block rush is faster, players can block punts better. Returners are better etc. When you’re worried about getting blocked it affects your punt. Plus there are few punters positions vs punters in the NFL. Doesn’t take much for a team to move on. As you pointed out. A bad game can end your career. Look at Heisman winners. Few have had a productive career let alone a great one.
Hey Issac, i got quite a few "participation" awards and "never missed a practice"..........besides your family, what has been the coolest award. xo, God bless the "Punts" family!!!
Seahawks fan here. Dickson is the man! He replaced a pretty good punter and I was kinda sad to see Jon Ryan go. However, Dickson has been awesome from the get go. Never even seen a bad punt from him honestly.
this feels like punters are more simular to goaltenders than i assumed- a great goaltender is cooked for awhile. and not one that has showstopping reflexes alone. its prolly just a position that requires time. its notably not a very competetive position, your kicks are more about accuracy and poise. you ironically kinda have to filter out everyone else- and place the ball on purpose where you want. rather than just able to put some power behind it. ive always said the nfl needs an ahl equivalent. some semi-pro place to cook players and condition others. and get field time for people which i think is simply best for players in a position like punting.
Probably too long ago for you but I remember the hype around Russell Erxleben. Punter and kicker from UT drafted 1st round by the saints. Huge failure in the pros. Something that I’ve always wondered about kickers and punters is how good their snappers are. You don’t need a superstar snapper in college. As long as they can deliver a ball you can handle you can probably get the kick or punt off. In the pros that’s different of course. Same thing with the holder for a kicker. Have you looked at the snappers and their success of the failed Ray Guy award punters in the pros? By the way I grew up in the Bay Area and saw Guy punt live several times. Incredible punter and really flexible for the day.
At first, I really thought that you’re going to talk about the Heisman! Its really interesting that across all the history of the NFL, only 10 heisman winners are in the HOF, only 4 got in since the 80s!
Braden Mann has been way better in Philly than the guys who came before him. Arguably, a terrible punt by Siposs was the crucial play in the super bowl. How many players get to punt in the NFL each year? If the punter is good and doesn't get injured, a team won't change them, so only 1 player will get reps for the whole season. And it feels like punters can go on to their late 30s, so only a couple of punters from each draft class really get to stick around.
Is that really surprising? Only a certain amount of punters are even going to make it to the league, each team has only 1, 2 at best including practice squad. There may be a handful of punter spots available every year and winning an award doesn’t mean you’re the best prospect or what a team wants. However, you’d think that one or two would’ve made it at least.
As a bills fan, I'm absolutely incensed that they cut Matt raiza before anything was proven one way or the other and yet Von Miller is still sitting around doing nothing and the organization is just twiddling their thumbs, barely acknowledging that anything's going on in his personal life. Shameful.
Pat McAfee has talked about what a scam this award is. People get it because of nepotism. He was a runner up. You should do a video on all the runner ups
Matt Araiza should be able to sue the NFL for 50 million
It wasn’t the NFL tho.
Huh? No. They should give him a job now though if he can still boot 👢🏉

He should sue the "victim" and the "victim" should be imprisoned with whatever he was facing.

runner ups have been weak too

This is what I was going to say Pat McAfee was a runner up and he did very well

I believe he was just signed to the Chiefs today 2-22-24

Definitely the Plaque I showed in this video. my whole goal that season was to come home with that plaque so it was very rewarding to be able to do it

Here's hoping you haven't developed the Sports Illustrated-like power to curse Dickson. Great video Isaac!

I mean Mann was not bad this year in Philly and was much better than our awful former punter, Siposs

Well they’re not so
I'm glad that the Chiefs are giving Matt Araiza an opportunity to play in the NFL 🏈🦵

Yes in 2020
I’m sorry but as a Seahawks fan this just isn’t true at all Michael Dickson is a fantastic punter
Araiza will have a great NFL Career. Trust me on it.
Idk how you can make this video without bringing up the punter the Jaguars drafted over RUSSELL FUCKING WILSON in 2012
Video idea for you.. who wouldve won the Ray Guy award before it became an award.
Can't Ariza sue for defamation? He has a very specific number outlined in his contract to submit for damages.
Sure, but what can he get from the girl who manufactured the case?
