Does he have the mental capacity of a normal 17 year old but with other physical deformities restricting his communication and muscle control etc? Or he is mentally challenged? I hope it is the latter, at least theres a chance that he's not fully aware of all of his misfortunes.
I don't care if it's culture. This is causing kids to suffer their entire, possibly short lives. If the benefits is that you get to already know each other's family or you have a good bond, then just marry a family friend or something.
If you want to marry without having children, like fine. But *if you* bring a child in with such pain and difficulty is not fair at all. *edited for clarity
eacarriere I agree that’s why people should seriously get genetically tested for diseases so they don’t match if they both have the genes for it. I carry the most dangerous gene for cystic fibrosis and if I was to have a child with someone of the same or similar gene my child would most likely not make it long or suffer in their life and that’s unfair for the child.
How would they know , its not like they would've known their children will be sick , because of lack of education ofc and proper awareness . But not all first cousin marriages lead to having sick offspring , as only a minority of families carry a recessive disease.
I’m from a pakistani family, and my mother’s friend in the UK married her first cousin. They have two children, one which is heavily mentally disabled and the other blind and also mentally disabled. I find it completely sickening that they decided to have kids, but my mom and much of my family in Pakistan sees this and somehow is ok with it. I get that arranged marriage to family is the easiest traditionally islamic way to go about a relationship, but when you are ignorant of the risks of incest and decide to have a kid with your cousin anyway, that to me is morally reprehensible. The culture has to change.
I can relate to almost everything you described, as I also come from an Islamic background and your neighbouring country. I have seen my relatives marrying their sons and daughters to their first cousins, which, to me, seems so strange and even shameful. However, none of them seem to care. The only reason they continue these practices is that they have been passed down from generation to generation. Luckily, their children are healthy and beautiful for now, but they are still young. I just hope they don’t suffer for actions they didn’t choose. Personally, I don’t want to marry a first cousin, and I feel that leaving my community behind is the best option once I am fully independent. It’s sad that the people who really need to see this video likely won’t while those who don’t need it will.
@@KhalidSiddiquiimind-blowing! I never heard of that. Why is this tradition so popular? What are the reasons behind marriages among relatives? To keep wealth or why?
@@madinam7532 From my perspective, there are several factors behind marriages among relatives Firstly, as the original comment stated, cousin marriage is considered the easiest Islamic way to go about a relationship. In Muslim culture, it is not viewed as something unusual or inappropriate. This practice is particularly common in third-world, Muslim-majority countries such as those in the Middle East and South Asia. Although cousin marriage originally was from Arab traditions, it later influenced South Asian cultures. Apart from this, the primary reasonn in my observation is that marriage in these cultures is not just a bond between two individuals but a bond between two families. This familial aspect makes cousin marriages more appealing. Also, wealth could also be a reason though it may not hold as much significance. But first-cousin marriages can lead to inbreeding depression causing genetic defects. Despite this, people in these regions often lack a clear understanding of the potential consequences. Even when aware, they may avoid questioning the practice because it aligns with Islamic teachings, and challenging these is considered a sin. That is why cousin marriages are rarely condemned, even in light of their potential risks. Sorry for writing this large paragraph, I had some free time :)

It’s bewildering that incest even came into existence. As a Pakistani I can easily tell that she has completed limited education in Pakistan, hence her trust in the medical system is significantly less. The problem is that cousin marriage in Pakistan, while I too believe is definetly wrong, has not caused huge health problems like it has done in the UK and this is because the Pakistani community in the UK is obviously smaller thus increasing the chances of genetic disorders. So sadly women like her can’t comprehend this
Im not a first cousin child, but my parents carried a dangerous gene that causes cancers. Its killed 2 of my siblings and i cant help but feel slightly miffed that they had 6 kids. Tbh, as a Pakistani. I can tell you it breaks families more than keeping them together and pits one portion against the other, because of marital conflict/petty shit. Like, some aunts will get secretive and not converse with some cousins, or straight up cut ties with ,for example, a brother's family. It makes everything complicated, and childhood isn't fun either because the parents won't let you play with the opposite sexed cousin because you might get married to him some day. It's perverted, and it ruins vital family relationships. This practice is common in the middle East as well.
The thing with some culture, cousins are not mingling with one another (especially opposite genders) when they grow up. So, when they are adults, cousins feel like strangers
This is just wild paranoia. “You can’t get the same bond, love, and trust with those outside of your family” these people live in a small scared little world
Jillian Holmes funny thing is so many people get along much better with people outside of their family. I have around 50 cousins and don’t talk to any of them, but I get along with my friends like they were my brothers and sisters. These people are scared to wander outside of their culture and befriend different people.
The key word was "trust", in their culture a stranger wouldn't lend you money or help you fight a battle but a family member, even if you've never met them, would do so since you are their kin. It is something we have lost a little in the west since many of us no longer even speak to our families or even care for our elderly, if anything we have reversed it in the west as we seek to create our own family and leave our parents and siblings behind. As Peter said, we are more likely to form bonds with strangers to create our own groups but in older cultures the family name is stronger than any other bond you can have. That is until someone dishonours the family name...
I’m confused... I understand this is a cultural norm and it’s important to keep certain traditions. The problem is when so many children are born with rare diseases and abnormalities, didn’t they ever consider abolishing this tradition? Especially after all these studies came out that it’s detrimental to the health of their children...
Utter selfishness. How can they think that it was just “God’s test” instead of accepting that these are genetic disorders caused by their own backward ways?

Thumb of rule in my religion. If you caused it, then it's your own damn fault. His older brother came home from work ill one day and went to bed, he was found dead in bed the next day aged 17/18. My classmate was also found dead in bed at the age of 22/23. Both brothers were found to have heart defects and after the second brother died their mother and sister were found to have the same defects and were successfully treated. The whole family had vast amounts of treatment over the years, you would have thought that after having 2 children with the same disabilities that they would have figured that more would be a likelihood. Does he have the mental capacity of a normal 17 year old but with other physical deformities restricting his communication and muscle control etc? Or he is mentally challenged? I hope it is the latter, at least theres a chance that he's not fully aware of all of his misfortunes.
Unfortunately it wouldn’t stop them having children.
It was heartbreaking to watch him.
That just broke my heart.. This young man is suffering for his parents ignorance.
I don't care if it's culture. This is causing kids to suffer their entire, possibly short lives. If the benefits is that you get to already know each other's family or you have a good bond, then just marry a family friend or something.
Obviously it's culture because in Islam you can't marry your relative
Actually the Quran doesn’t you say you can’t marry your cousin so they can do it.
Its wealth most of the time. They want to keep the money in the family
What if your cousin is hot and you pull out?
Chop off their genitals
If you want to marry without having children, like fine. But *if you* bring a child in with such pain and difficulty is not fair at all. *edited for clarity
eacarriere I agree that’s why people should seriously get genetically tested for diseases so they don’t match if they both have the genes for it. I carry the most dangerous gene for cystic fibrosis and if I was to have a child with someone of the same or similar gene my child would most likely not make it long or suffer in their life and that’s unfair for the child.
The honkler Don’t be rude just use your brain and read it, it’s not that difficult to understand her comment
i shall say marrying ur own cousin is fine but you dont have to had a genetic kid or smth-

eacarriere actually it’s not fine if they marry it’s disgusting

If there is cousin marriages from your grandparent or your great grandparent and there is no historical health problem, then it's totally fine.
@@AA-js8yx You don't know if there will be a health impact from looking at your grandparents or great grandparents, because most diseases are recessive, i.e., as long as you have a healthy gene from at least one parent you're fine. And any gene can randomly have something wrong. We all have many many such random 'mistakes', it just doesn't matter because we have a healthy one from the other parent. Because the random things that can go wrong are random so they almost never randomly happen on the same gene to two different people.
