      Hey! thanks for the kind feedback. You are brave watching that many videos!! ( I have actually enjoyed a few of your F1 shorts the other day too!).
      The law around protecting pilots is a little vague sadly. It would be a different story if a person was shot at in a public street but enforcement is very haphazard on the topic.
      Hoping that was the confrontation the leaflet helped with!

I have only had a few queries from members of the public who were just interested in the drone ( Mini 2/3/4.) These are great and ive used my own information sheet. These will help! What would be good is a QR code that takes members of the public ,authorities and corporation workers to a set page they can then select what is relivant to their area.. so if it was say a corporation you could have details how unless the air space is protected or zoned off anyone can fly over with XYZ . If its the public stuff around flying over residential and if its the police a firm wording on what they should be careful of as police can be 50/50 ive mostly only had good encounters but there are plenty of bullies out there

    This is handy and I'll stow a copy.
    I only had someone ask about the drone, out of "wow cool I rarely see those" curiosity in the UK, and somewhat amusingly an adult, startled actually yell across a carpark at a clifftop viewing point "HEY I THINK THERE'S A DRONE, THERE'S A DRONE!!!", it was well clear of everyone.

  • @bowcaps

    These are great, thank you Sean. Interesting you say that drone pilots don’t get routinely approached. I can validate this statement, in the last 6 months I have lone my drones around the uk, us and Latin America, most times there are people around, either on beaches, car parks or towns, and I actually expect to be approached, in reality once the drone is in the air, most people just go about their business and don’t give me a second glance. To note though, I do not fly in any contentious areas and if it’s a private car park, I always ask permission. I’m sure I will be handing out a leaflet at some point in the future, so thanks again.

    I wish the CAA would allow a QR code with your operator number rather than only Alphabet letter and numbers , might help stop nosy folks copying your OP ID to stick on any drone they fancy to use for nefarious purposes where you might end up getting the blame , not foolproof but might help , looks neater as well 🙂 thanks for the downloads .

    • @Geeksvana
      @Geeksvana  7 місяців тому

      Thanks! I use a QR code on some of my larger drones. Then place the full code inside the battery bay. This, I am told is acceptable.

    • @Mr-J...
      @Mr-J... 7 місяців тому

      @@Geeksvana As I interpret the legislation, it requires the Operator ID to be attached to the drone, but does not prescribe it being on open display.
      Therefore, if it is attached with something covering the direct view, then that should be okay.
      When a Police Officer requests to see the Operator ID, flip up the tape/cover to reveal it.
      Or, in the event the drone is lost, the Operator ID is readily accessible to a finder.
      If it is hidden in the battery bay, then it may not be readily available to demonstrate it is attached without a little dismantling.
      QR code is a good idea on the face of it, but any 4k camera will capture a good enough shot to allow that Operator ID to be taken and cloned.

    • @Geeksvana
      @Geeksvana  7 місяців тому

      I don't use QR for cloning purposes. It is as useless as copying a car plate. Battery compartment is compliant. Only legislative requirement is not to require tools.

    Love these, but the verbiage on the Police Leaflet seems to say the police can ask for OP and Flyer ID and the drone to be handed over without the requirement of 'reasonable suspicion of any offence'. Correct me if I am wrong but the police would need to evidence that suspicion prior to asking any ID or drone?

    • @Geeksvana
      @Geeksvana  7 місяців тому

      The only time they need reasonable suspicion of a crime is to ask you to land the drone. Otherwise, they are allowed to ask for selected details and inspect the drone. We have a video explaining police powers with a couple of national officers on the channel.

  • @philsheath
    @philsheath 7 місяців тому +1

    On the Police one it says the Drone has to handed over if requested by the Police? Surely not, there has to be some offence committed.

    • @Geeksvana
      @Geeksvana  7 місяців тому

      That isn't the only time they can inspect the drone. There is an explanation in our police powers video pointing to the legislation schedule. Big one for needing to suspect a crime is landing the drone.

      One chap even asked to 'have a go', I was a bit hesitant but I could see he was genuinely intrigued and interested.
      As I was right in the middle of a wide open area with no trees or any other hazards, I handed him the controller after giving him a quick control lesson.

I appreciate the QR codes and the links that they provide, but in the circumstances of the only time that I have been confronted by a "Karen" when flying a drone she would not have used them even if she had been able to.
    Taking the 250g drone leaflet as an example, it would be more useful if it summarised the current rules so that it could be read by anyone and referred to immediately by both the flyer and the "Karen". The paragraph about the change of rules in 2021 is particularly open ended and deserves to be expanded. It should explain that the rules for a sub 250g drone are different from others, the location restrictions for such a drone, the pilot certification required (if any) and the labelling required on the drone

      We have found this format to be pretty successful and popular. The issue is trying not to put to much detail initially and then allowing them to find out more.
      Also, placing too much information on the leaflets actually ends up limiting the circumstances they can be used. If the person approaching is already beyond calm reasoning, no leaflet of any kind would make a difference.

    I wish i could have said thank's like everyone else has but downloading a pdf should be right-click on the icon and 'save target as', dead easy just 2 clicks.. these 'download' links open a microsoft sign-in page (not great if u don't have a microsoft account) but then after signing in it goes to another page asking me to either sign in or create a OneDrive account.. at that point i gave up, i'm gobsmacked that no-one else has mentioned this.

    Hi I'm new to your site having downloaded the leaflets I checked the Open Category Requirements QRcode on the the police leaflet all it does is lead you to the CAA site and says File Not Found with links to the CAA website or the CAA publications page not the open category requirements

      Thanks Chris! The new CAA website design seems to have killed their older links. We have updated the QR codes and they now work. Really appreciate you spotting it!

    Anyone over 50 do not use QR codes. Never use full caps because dyslexics have trouble reading full caps. And don't centre text, as it's generally hard to read. Well done for doing the monotone version 👍

    Why between 2020 - 2023 did the CAA decide to drop any recognition of competency from qualified manned aircraft pilots? It was removed from CAP722. What changed between those dates that suddenly made thousands of hours of aviation experience and hundreds of hours of study, situated around making aviation safe made them no longer competent. Even more ironic is most registered RAEs will have used prior manned flying experience as part of gaining accreditation to issue certificates of competency on behalf of the CAA.
    This is another slap in the face to GA and the wider aviation community. With plans to merge the two and create better safety measures, what part of shutting out an acknowledgment of that experience and the opportunity for crossover makes it better? It looks to me like another money-making motive with the real issues of integration and safety ignored. You will even consider foreign GVA-type certificates to gain operational authorisation. But will disregard UK-trained pilots.

    I was thinking of buying a sub 250g as a first time flyer. After watching some of the ‘auditor’ videos I don’t want to be associated with their ‘social experiment’. Now seeing this vid it has put me off drones, I get the impression that I’d be hassled too often. Why do drone flyers attract such a bad rap ?

    Not agreeing or disagreeing with you, but what sort of mess are we in when everyone thinks you should follow the Drone Code and now the suggestion is that this is not really for purpose as it doesn't reflect the legislation!

    • @Geeksvana
      @Geeksvana  7 місяців тому

      I agree. The main point of deviation for me was the release of the AMC/GM. This created more confusion than it solved and means the Drone Code is now more guidance than legislation.
      This should change in the future if the steps explained in the RPAS consultation are implemented.

    Hi Sean. Opps - I think some of the wording is a bit 'woolly'. For example 1: Info for police doc says and operator ID might be required. So the words 'might' are not strictly correct. Example 2: Article 16 doc. The words 'Including overflight' to me is questionable. Yes overflight as set out in a Flying Field Risk Assessment, but unable to see where Article 16 states overflight is permitted in other situations, unless the aircraft is under 250gms MTOW. Example 3: Sub 250G doc. Yes zero separation etc, but the pilot must be satisfied that they can perform the flight safely and by just adding these few words I feel it would add value. Example 4: A2 CofC doc. The words 'This provides certain permissions' is quite woolly. I fully understand to fit everything on to an A5 size document would make the text so small it would be unreadable and I do like the idea of what you have produced and will print and carry them. Just think some are a bit woolly or fluffier than others. 😉 Than again Fluffy docs can be helpful at times.

    • @Geeksvana
      @Geeksvana  7 місяців тому +1

      These are guidance documents. Most of the wording is generic across the board with only a few pointers specific to each.
      Not entirely sure why you are spending your time auditing them in such detail. Everyone would produce them slightly differently. These are mine.

    • @Geeksvana
      @Geeksvana  7 місяців тому

      But as extra guidance... the Article 16 Authorisation is a bubble not horizontal, unless it is an assembly or the drone is over 7.5KG.
      The police document was produced in collaboration with the Police and is absolutely correct.
      Whether or not you think something is 'woolly' does not change that the docs are correct. Perhaps produce some of your own and distribute them?
