Woody, exasperated, finally said, "No goddammit! We do not stop for gas! We'll push the goddamn car to Ohio before Michigan gets a penny of my money!"
And that’s what happened! Car ran out of fuel in southern Monroe Co. (Michigan) and they walked to nearest pay phone to phone booster in Toledo to bring enough fuel to get to Toledo to fuel up! Lol
The really very sad thing about Coach Hayes was that the Progressive Media hated him and went out of their way to castigate him and not many ever got to learn about what a truly great humanitarian he was.
I'm a powerlifter who trained in the weight room on the one end of the horseshoe. For us Woody was a thug and ultimately took away our equipment when he saw we were stronger than his guys. We get credit for the players that came after who were bigger and stronger. Hayes gets credit for ultimately showing his true thug colors.
