Great work Mark...I know the trim details can get boring especially if you are not into that particular car. The different trims determine the options you get like EX is usually fully powered like mirrors windows, has moon roof and cruise controle. Dx has manual windows mirrors and no tacometer no moon roof either. The HX had VTEC E which helps you save gas before hybrids were a thing. You already know about the K, B, H, J(V6) series engines that could be swapped into these cars. The D series engines can make upwards from 500hp for a reasonable price. These cars get dents very easily cause of thin metal...never a cracked dash though. Double wish bone suspension on an economy car is great. Sorry to be the long paragraph Guy. Some people swap on a vtec head which makes a small difference in power and isn't bad since single cam heads are so cheap. It is said that the single cam does really well with both compared to the twin cam but I'm not sure.
As for the sound, they just werent doing it right, search mugen twinloop muffler civic si, or the hks hi power, they make the most beautiful sounds known to man, b16s can sound great

I think all 90s type Rs had parts of the frame welded to stiffen it to improve handling. That's one of the reasons the type Rs are so expensive because you cannot get that from other Hondas.
got a mint 6th gen about a year ago now for 1k with 123k miles. After a year of enjoying nice gas mileage and slow/sluggish engine ive finally decided to start modding it for some fun. Lets see how it goes!
Mines a 2000 ex ej8 in the vin but it’s a k24 swapped car five lug conversion and 4 disc conversion and we are in the works making an awd k swapped civic
As for some of the "shitbox" elements of the car, my horn buttons both broke, one of the fan vents doesn't adjust anymore, and the 12v comes unscrewed from its socket and hangs down by the cup holder, nothing terrible but little annoying things to fix
