Nobody cared because of the Acura Integra. The Integra was a great car. The 91 Integra was so awesome and that is just the LS. I have never even been in a GSR. But the LS was so good. Those long gears really made you feel how good that B18 was at high RPMs.
I live in a poor ass country, a sportscar fanboy all my life, and I was very patient to get the money together and chose my Japanese baby carefully. You can only imagine my ecstasy when I got the money together and found a very well preserved 5th gen EDM 2.0i prelude here in Serbia. I am in love. I feel like I've completed the final mission. The car is just wonderful. Much love to all the enthusiasts out there, whatever you drive, love it, drive it, take care of it and share the love.
say that when you literally have options for aftermarket, i own a 96 accord wagon, its hard to find parts, hell i might have to use prelude parts, and NSX calipers just to have a entry-level brake upgrade
How can you "underrate" -130hp?lmao... The 4WS is pretty cool tho.. Preledues have always handled like shit compared a base model civic, evan that one..front end loves to slide, hard to keep traction on the front wheels,EVER PRELUDE MODEL.
I owned two 4th gen's... still my favorite Honda of all time. The digital dash is unique and the car is balanced really well. The H-series motors always had a more throaty sound than the B or K series... I just likem.
@@p.informatico1320 Had my hands on one of those a few years back. Would have bought it but it had an issue with first gear and the guy wouldn't come down on the price. It was in great shape too for a 27 year old vehicle.
The first car I ever owned was a 4th Gen Prelude. I absolutely loved that car. My second was the Mitsubishi FTO which I somehow loved even more. I'd buy them both again in a heartbeat.
@@HellHunter00 My fourth gen Prelude was also my first new car, back in the winter of 1995. I felt such an increase of status when I parked that beauty at my parent’s driveway. My coworkers at the Florida Department of Children and Families loved that car when I parked it in that parking lot in 1997. Paid it off in late 2000. I had that car during every IT job I had, during the late 90’s/early 2000s IT boom.
Back in 2000 I was in college and my fraternity did a cat wash. This mid-20s guy pulled up in a fully loaded last gen Prelude SI with the manumatic transmission. He let me pull it from the wash bay to the area we were hand drying and I was blown away in that 15-20 seconds. I always liked the Prelude but after that they had a special place in my heart. Never had one, but wouldn't mind getting one!
I love this format a lot, you should do more underappreciated cars, for instance, the mazda mx3/6 the whole rx line, not just the 7, maybe some other stuff as well
I was actually thinking the same thing you have no clue how happy I was to see the you say mx-3/6 I myself own a 96 pgt and it's a beautiful car and I love driving it, people can talk shit about my failed fwd mustang but Ill always just see the sexy rebadged Mazda with pop ups
Rotary/Wagner engines have a problem with the apex seal. The 787 win at 24 hrs of Le Mans was a fluke. They can handle a lot of boost since reciprocal masses aren’t subjected to velocity changes. Cute engines tho.
One of my favourite cars. Two of my buddies had one. Handled like crazy, solid feeling controls, and interior, sleek, flat undercarriage. The twin carb engine performed, and sounded awesome. His ‘86 was as tough as nails, and he bought it third hand. The guy he bought it from over 20 years ago, says it was his favourite car to this day.
Just bought a 5th gen prelude. Genuinely the most fun car I’ve ever owned, with new headers, intake, exhaust, and cams. Definitely the best bang for your buck in the twisties outside of a Miata.
Have you driven…*anything* else on a back road? I love me a 5th generation Prelude, thing of absolute beauty, but you could buy any number of others that are both better by the numbers and more exciting. Saddens me to say it, but if switchbacks and such are your thing, the Prelude isn’t.
My first car was a 3rd gen prelude 2.0Si with 4WS, I'd say they've gotten pretty popular over the years, I bought mine for $900 back around 2009, and now finding one in manual in half decent shape for under $15,000 just isn't gonna happen
The 3rd generation was my favorite. I had a 2nd gen also, but the 3rd gen was sexy. I looked for one a couple months ago and the prices were ridiculous...
I had a 1st gen prelude in high school and it was very slow, however it was an amazing handler. It was much more stable in the corners when compared to my friends mk1 rabbits and sciroccos.
good video. My 2nd car was a 1981 prelude that i bought in 1988. I slammed it to the ground by cutting the springs on it. It became nicknamed the bouncer, but it looked cool that low. This was the time of Mini Truckin, so there were very few lowered import cars back then.
I can definitely agree. I had a 1994 Prelude in the 4WS model, which I then swapped the engine for the more powerful JDM spec VTEC @ 200HP. The car was fast and cornered like it was on rails!
The 7th generation Prelude is my all time favorite. If I could fit in one I'd buy it today. The body design was a work of art, hell even the tail lights were beautiful.

While I agree this is the most underrated Honda the most underrated vehicle they made is the 2003 Acura CL type S 6mt. Especially the comptech supercharged version
Yeah thanks for getting the dates wrong as well lol you people are fake Honda groupes ... 92 was the first year for the 4th gen not 93 someone needs to be fired for making that list ....
If you Google 2023 Honda Prelude you'll see that Honda may be presenting a new Prelude next year? Maybe you can do an updated video when/if it does come out?
I owned two 2nd gens, an '87 2.0Si and an 85 base (1.8 dual carb). Both manuals of course : ) . Put a $hit ton of miles on both. The super low front cowl and razor-thin A pillars allowed for those huge windows--- giving you an amazing outward view. Hard to describe how much this makes a difference compared to todays boxed in cars (due to airbags, rollover requirements, etc. etc.). Good job Mark!
Mine used to get warped rotors pretty quick, likely due to the commute I had. It had some high speed highway, then stop and go highway and then a congested long uphill that you had to use your brakes on so you didn't roll back. So basically you had to stand on your brakes after getting them good and hot.
I was thinking the same, no conversion kits for 4th gen front end to 5th gen chassis tho unfortunately, I have looked for my one but they just not there hahah
@@nickoce7361 yep it would have to be a completely custom job. Unfortunately, finding a reputable fabricator that won’t charge you out the butt is rare these days
I've always been a Mitsubishi guy, but I do love the prelude! My uncle had an 88 four wheel steering and let me blast down some twisties with it. Definitely an awesome car and wouldn't mind scooping one up.
I've owned 2 Preludes. a 1995 SE, and still own a 1994 Si. LOVE these cars. I've owned one for around 14yrs of my 39 on earth lol. They were always the testbed for Honda. Always the one to get the cool part first. So, so wish they'd bring them back. I've even written Honda myself. But, with the way things are going, and the recent comeback of the "integra". I'm not sure how well they'd come back. the VTEC days are long gone unfortunately, turbos, hybrids, electric, etc. are the wave now. There's just something about the old mechanical Hondas, with the Prelude having the "big block" of all of them
I loved my old '84 Prelude. It was the first Honda I ever bought. Now I'm on my 4th Honda and will likely keep it for a long time. I wouldn't mind if they brought back the Prelude again, but with the current supply chain shortages, I'm sure it won't be easy to make it very affordable.
They would overengineer the thing and check too many boxes... hybrid, AWD, DCT or CVT with no manual option for the US, every creature comfort imaginable, and a long list of unimpressive emissions control crap. The best one could hope for is a transplant powertrain directly from the Civic Si.
I love those 2nd gen ones! I had (via parental generosity) a top of the line '85 Accord but it was so slow and sad compared to the Prelude. I'm on my 5th Honda, and am pondering the new Integra... mainly because it's an Si with a hatchback.
Just as an addition of info for anyone interested. The 2G came in 2 versions which are both seen in the video. The Si and the DX. The Si had a single cam injection engine with 110hp and the DX a single cam carbed engine which produced 100hp. At least for the US. The japanese market also got a double cam Fi engine. The "first" B-engine from Honda and it produced a (for that time) whoping 160hp! The european market got a down tuned version of that with approx 140hp😄
I had the 4th Gen and the 5th Gen. The 4th was my baby for 8 years ! ! ! I almost shed a tear from the memories. Thanks for the terrific piece. Very well done!
Great video. Interesting bit of trivia - during the filming of Star Trek: The Next Generation, both Patrick Stewart and Wil Wheaton owned Preludes. Wil's was the slightly better AWS version.
Great video summary. As a 4th gen owner, the most striking thing for me right now is the fact that it is 30 years old (mine is 1992), yet it still grabs attention! There is something alarming about a modded 4th gen on VTEC appearing in the rear view mirror haha.
As first Gen Prelude owner, I’m glad to see someone talking about it, even though it wasn’t talked about in the best way haha Quick note ln the first gen’s engine: in Europe we had a 1.6L 80hp engine, and in Japan they got the 1.8L 90hp, so 15hp more than in the US, not that much, but for a 850-900kg car it’s nice !
Gran Turismo 2 on Ps1 in that plum metallic purple was my first introduction to Prelude. (Back then in 2002, I owned an 85' Corolla AE-82 that my mom gave me when she got her newer corolla. It had the 4-AgE in it but it was set sideways and FWD, so I got into FWD cars trying to convince everyone that FWD cars were cool...now I'll never own another front drive car. My daily is an Explorer and my "play around" car is a 99' C230k)
Awesome video! To be sincere, I believe the 5th Gen Accord V6 is the most overlooked performance-oriented Honda. The TSX is its spiritual succesor in the States.
@@jeffbourne5463 That’s wassup! My first car ever was a 93 Accord coupe that had been fitted with a VTEC head. I remember that I had no clue what VTEC was, but my friend who owned an S13 went bananas when he found out.. lol. I do like the exterior on that generation better.
my father owned a 3rd gen, i grew up riding in the backseat. i had the 4th gen of my own throughout high school. with bright eyes, i bought a 3rd gen shell and dropped my h22 into it. it wasn't a successful swap as it never ran after the fact and i ended up leaving for the military shortly after but man, the prelude has a very special place in my heart. the 3rd gen will always be my favorite honda due to it's nostalgic effect on me. thanks for the video
I've owned two, a 1993 with the 2.3 and a 95 with the 2.2 VTEC. Both five speeds. Both cars had been heavily modified before I bought them, lowered with aftermarket rims, front strut tower bars, cold air intakes (the 2.3 was an actual cold air as the pipe was routed through to where the filter was only a few inches off the road). The 2.2 had fiberglass fenders and hood, along with an aftermarket camshaft. Both great, reliable cars and the 2.2 was actually quick and the handling was fantastic for a fwd car. They'd plow if you threw them in a corner hard enough but lots of fun to drive.
Yeah that H22 was ahead of the curve back in the day. What everyone else was doing with twin cams and a turbocharger, Honda did with VTEC. When they started swapping them into Civics and fourth gen Accords, it really woke those cars up. Seems like after a while the valve seals would wear, which caused it to smoke a little when you got in the throttle, but it still held its power pretty well. I could see Honda bringing the Prelude back and it being a sales success. Would be cool to see it happen.
3:33 Correction, double wishbone suspension is on hardly any new cars. Even honda went back to economy strut suspension. That is a HUGE difference in handling. 7:30 VTEC is for getting a larger powerband, aka, more power down low, not peak power. Peak hp is not affected that much, but does get a bit better than economy tuning alone allows. Too bad they killed the integra after 2001. The new one is a civic with a body kit, and lacks even the double wishbone suspension that made the OG special. Honda has become a joke.
The old Vtec kicked in around 6k RPM. The current one is 3 stage optimized for midband performance. My friends '96 Type R Vtec kicks at high RPMs, but once he had 2000 Civic build specifically for track - Type R power plant with supercharger. It was as fast as 911. I knew physics Ph.D, specializing in acoustic and DSP. He still owns turbocharger Type R build for track. And then, people also used Prelude engines in Civics or various head swaps to get more juice.
Awesome video, just a few things: the 3rd Gen prelude came out before the NSX, so it’s a bit more that the nsx borrowed from the prelude, not the other way around. Also most 3rd gens had the 2.0L b20a engine that made 135hp, but some of the later production ones had the 2.1L b21a which made 140hp. Other than that you were spot on with everything and I loved the video!
i own a 97’ 5th gen manual prelude i bought in 2017 Ontario /L.A . i constantly get asked if i “sell it” & i always say NO ! i saved up $1 by $1 in high school just to get the car i wanted . By this , i had observed many of honda cars that most typical people get like the EG/EK ( which i call mini egors ) , Civics , RSX’s , Del Sol’s , integras , bla bla . i wanted something different & unique ! also to mention preludes aren’t even seen often so when im out in the street i always get necks broken & its usually older heads telling me they like my car & saying they wish they got it when they were younger. Preludes are a gem so i told myself im never letting my baby go no matter if im old . ill be old & still have the prelude you wanted 😂 ahh such a great car despite its oil burning issue
i like the 3rd 4th and 5th gens - i would like to own 4th and 5th gens but the preludes still fetches a bit of money now to me, the 5th gen with the right wheels and body kit is sexy and grown, the 4th gen is sporty and speedy looking and even the 3rd gen screams this is the car i should have had in my 20s
For me I think it was the HRN216VKA. The performance that thing had was unmatched by anything of its generation. Great cornering. weight distribution was near 50/50. The Mid mounted motor really helped the balance. and Honda reliability to top it all off. They would run forever if you took care of them.
Those have great structural rigidity but the suspension is shit, any midcorner bumps throw them off. Great fuel economy though, and low maintenance costs.
I’ve owned 2 5th gen preludes now, a type s and type sh. I personally think these cars are performance bargains if you can scoop up a clean one for around 5k. Before the k series became the k series the h22 was the most coveted Honda swap you could do since it was the “big block” motor. Parts are cheap although a little more scarce then your average civic or Miata but if you look in the right places they’re certainly there.
Yeah.. the H22’s performance was quite uncommon back when the 5th gen Prelude was new. I had a 97 GSX Eclipse back in the day, and when you compare factory tuned performance of those two cars, the 4G motor was a turbocharged 2 liter boasting 210 hp and could not pull away from a Prelude. Some days the Eclipse ran better than others (temperamental turbo).. the Prelude’s H22 was more consistent needless to say. I’ve seen that engine swapped into 4th gen Accords and it literally turned the car into a sleeper. Consistent low 8 second passes in the 8th mile. Pretty impressive.
80s prelude was legendary The styling both interior/exterior The seating cloths were perfect Design and the sunroof perfect The ride was dreamy... Perfect car
I bought a 95 prelude as my first car ever and I loved it! The looks were perfectly aggressive and still looks good to this day. However this car would’ve been better if it were RWD. Hence when mine died I got a S13 and never looked back until I got my 2020 civic Si.
The 3rd generation was my first car in 1998, I kept it for 7 years before I moved to north america. I loved this car. I always have a special feeling when I see a Honda Prelude on the street. I will have one again soon.
Just needs to be rwd and it would be perfect. 5th. Gen such a great body style! Just saw a nicely done one the other day and it was so clean, a survivor!
I've been in love with the 4th gen ever since seeing one in 1992, I bought one in 2004 as my first car and now own 3 of them The design in my opinion is the best looking car Japan ever made, if it were instead released by GM a bit larger with a 5ltr V8 and rwd it would have been a great Camaro/Firebird successor
My first new car during my first professional job out of college was the 4th gen 1995 Prelude. I remember how much of an increase in status I felt when I brought that red beauty home. I still remember the new car smell. I picked it over the '95 Celica. It was rated in the top 10 most reliable cars, and it had front wheel drive, which was important in snowy Delaware. I had that car during every IT job I had. I drove that car to my first private lap dance in '97. The only problem it ever gave me was that during the winter time, the retractable antenna would get stuck when auto-retracting, so I had to manually force it down. It was tricky to turn off the radio and hurry out to the antenna near the rear so I could time the forcing down of the antenna properly. If I ever became rich someday, I would hire someone to restore a 4th gen Prelude. I was disappointed that the only radio control Prelude car body available is the 5th gen. You cannot make a radio control 4th gen Prelude.
@@perfectsplit5515 you're exactly right, I still feel spoilt when I sit in all 3 of mine, the aggressive animalistic lines of the exterior to the space age fighter pilot interior I've since restored mine to be a JDM example of the SI-VTEC with all sorts of rare gizmos like digital climate control, air refiner, CD stacker
Really enjoyed your video. Believe it or not a lot of cars of today still don't have double wishbone suspension. Even some supposed performance cars like Porsches. And yes it does make a huge difference in handling. The Honda engineers really designed these old school cars to perform around tracks
Totally agree! Still got my 3rd gen. '94 Prelude VTEC and it gets compliments. Honda _should_ make another beauty like it, not the frumpy 4 doors it now seems to prefer.
I onced raced a 5th gen prelude with my 2001 Honda Accord V6 coupe. And I barely beat it. And I had a Comptech Supercharger installed. So that prelude was fast.
I just bought a 97 5th Gen SH off a lady that bought it new in 97 at 60 years old and babied it. This was my dream car in high school, and I love it so far.
The 3rd Gen will always be the greatest of all time in my humble opinion. I practically grew up in a Phoenix Red 1990 2.0SI 4WS. It was the coolest car in the world of my childhood. Fun fact: The 3rd Gen Prelude had the lowest hood line in history. They did it just to take the title away from the Ferrari Mondiale. The Italians must've freaked out when they learned that the Japanese did it and also managed to put an engine underneath. 😁 Edit: If I could, I would buy a 3rd Gen 4ws, a 4th Gen 4ws and a 5th Gen ('1996 Type S).
Great video sir! I still miss my 89 Prelude Si from highschool. Man it was a head turner. It was love at first sight for me and could corner like no ones business. Oh the memories.
The first car I bought myself in 2001 was a ‘95 Prelude VTEC when I was in a-school. Drove that car all over the place, up and down the California coast, from Cali to Texas (c-school) and back and then shipped it to Hawaii where I drove it a few more years then sold it. Loved that car.
I loved all versions of the prelude, I’m in my 40’s and they were EVERYWHERE growing up. And one thing I didn’t learn until a couple years ago was that they had all wheel steering. When I learned that it made me question everything in life because I knew all about these cars. I sat down and said “Am I be stupidier or something?”
The H22 is an awesome motor and quite frankly it's underrated and/ or slept on. I remember in the early 2000's, lots of my buddies were ranting and raving over B16 and B18 swaps, I have nothing wrong with that, but I blew up the conversation by my suggestion of an H22 swap into my buddy's EG Civic. They all laughed at me, mostly because the Prelude did get hate.
I’ve owned two of the 1995 Honda Prelude SE. The first one was new off the lot, the second one I got in 2019. The 4th generation Prelude is my all time favorite car. Just beautiful inside and out.
My uncle bought that 4th generation in 1991! I remember it like yesterday back than cars were boxshaped. This one was really ahead of it’s time. Still its a beauty!!
I think the earlier Japanese sports cars were more fit for the roads in Japan with lots of twists and turns unlike the huge expanses of straight highways in America
I've owned three Preludes: (1) The 1979 Prelude was my first car at 16 years old. (2) In 1992, I bought a brand new 4th-gen black Si. (The video incorrectly says the 4th gen was released in 1993.) (3) In 1993, they released the VTEC, so I traded in the year-old 92 Si for a VTEC in Brittany Blue-Green Metallic, an exclusive color for the VTEC. It also had aftermarket black leather seats, installed by a third party hired by the dealership. What a gorgeous car! I paid $18,000 for it.
Back in 2007 while I was working at honda, my son was born. Also, I bought a 99 prelude. It had been in the shop with a blown engine. Original owner, second blown engine. So naturally I offered to buy the car, and got it for about 2K Canadian, so 500 American. Ordered a jdm engine(2K), and with help from a young tech I worked with, got it going. To this day, it was the nicest, most fun car I've ever owned, and I regret ever selling it. I still have a couple low quality videos doing some 0-60's and a couple highway pulls. Will show my son some day, haha. Honda chose the name Prelude to sybolize the vehicle acting as a platform for new technology.
I had a '95 Twin Turbo Supra, and in 1998, contemplating a long commute needing a car that was cheaper per mile, I test-drove this '93-95 (4th-gen?) Prelude. Granted not fast, but the handling was excellent. It reminded me of riding a good road bicycle, where you almost lean into turns. It was a revelation in steering and handling for me.
I had the 4th gen. It was black 1993 Prelude SR-V (Canadian version of the Vtec) with H22A1 engine back in college. Great car, drove it to over 300k miles. I powder coated the engine cover red, and got the K&N air intake and exhaust (typical rice upgrades). Beautiful machine. But then I upgraded to a 2001 BMW 330Ci, it was better in every way. But then I upgraded to a 2008 BMW M5. Crazy car, but too many issues. Then I had a Honda CBR600RR bike for 1 season...fun but too scary. Then I got a 2010 BMW Z4 sdrive35i convertible. That was fun, but too small. Then I got a 2018 Lincoln SUV and I enjoy that to this day lol. Now I'm shopping for a Macan Turbo because I like to get back to sportiness yet practicality.
I drove nothing but Preludes for over 20 years. Owned a 3rd gen in high school, sold it, and bought a brand new 2001 5th gen Type SH. I also, bought a 2nd gen a few years later, followed by another beautiful white 1991 Si 3rd gen Prelude. I owned 3 different gens at one point, and loved every second of it. Sold my 5th gen 15 years later for almost 10K, that's how beautiful and perfect that car still was. Man I loved those days... Nowadays it's Preludes are very hard to find in good condition.
Actually the 2nd generation only the Si version had the fuel injected 110hp motor. The base model still came with a standard carburated 1.8 motor. Had a 2nd Gen Si. 3rd generation Si (yes with the infamous 2.1L) and a 5th generation. Loved all of them. I would love to go back to a 3rd generation one day...
I had a ‘78 Accord that I bought new. LOVED that thing. Absolutely bullet proof and I auto crossed it AND towed a Boler trailer from Alberta across the mountains to BC. Had to spin the tires to get it rolling and stopping was an adventure! Foolish then and foolish now…
I sold Honda's at a dealership back in the day the lude's were out, Loved the 4th gen si, sold one to a knock-out fit girl for her college graduation present, and she asked me out the following week. This is why I LOVE 4th gen. lude's The 5th gen. lease with no money down was $179.99/mo 2yr/12k yr, residual was 93% with a super low money factor. Sold plenty of these 5th gen, and the noise from the vtec cam after 5500rpms....was awesome!
I had a '92 (4th gen) prelude with an H22 (200hp) swap including the short ratio gearbox and the LSD. I would hit vtec in that car daily and delivered pizzas in it and painted it up when i got married and had all my most fun driving moments in that car. It was SO fast, almost out dragging a newer heavier Z, usually beating the snot out of anything else that wasn't turboed or a muscle car in the early and mid 00's. Even though it was red it was still a beat up ol' honda that no one saw coming, since I didn't change ANYTHING else about the car. I miss my old lcd dash, that vtec kick and having a real small car. For your other channel (btw you just got 2 new subs for that great video) I'm REAL into FH5 and def need an excuse to play wreckfest after all these years of having it since beta. I'm pretty good but not like, manual gearbox good, which is weird bc ALL my personal cars have been manual. Hit me up if you're playin either on steam!
I remember buying my 89 Prelude. Power windows, sun roof iconic headlights 😍😍 can't recall how many miles was on it but damn that car was fun as hell to drive
I owned 3 Preludes in my lifetime. Got my first one as a senior in high school. It was a 1st gen 1980 model. I thought I was so cool driving that car. My second Prelude was a 1988 Prelude Si 4WS. The 4 wheel steering was awesome. People often asked me to show them the rear wheels turning. It was a trip and in low speed situations, it really came in handy. I'm actually disappointed that the 4 wheel steering technology didn't catch on. My final Prelude was a 1994 Prelude VTEC. In its day, it was a quick car. I have driven nothing but Hondas and Acuras since my very first 1980 Honda Prelude. I'm currently driving my 19th car which happens to be a '20 Accord Touring 2.0T. Love this car and have always loved Hondas/Acuras. I would be very interested in seeing what Honda would/could do with a modern version of the Prelude.
Love the 4th gen. Had a 1992 accord and swapped the f22 with the 92 prelude h22a. Little do people know, o ly in 1992 did the h22a(1) come as a closed deck, every h22 after was open deck. The a1 is the most solid of them all allowing for more herse pers!
I remember test driving a new 4th Gen Prelude with my landlady, her idea. She couldn't drive a stick but liked the car, so convinced the dealer to let the two of us take a test drive alone. I drove the crap out of it and she had great fun. That thing could really handle and go.
It was Honda’s best fwd sports car before the integra type r and civic type r came along to take the title. But I can’t imagine them making a comeback with a rwd prelude. That would most likely go to an s2000 successor (which Honda is rumored to bring back)
I remember when the gen 5 came out. I happen to see it at the local dealer when my dad was looking for a new minivan. I was absolutely transfixed. I was already a fan of the Prelude, but I thought this was one of the hottest cars I’d ever seen. Honestly, if Honda made a Type R version of the Prelude to be a counterpart to the Impreza we would still be talking about it.
I had a green 95 prelude SE and I am so nostagic when i think of that car. Beautiful in so many ways. I got so many looks and offers to buy it from me. Such a beauty to behold. from its sleek exterior to its spaceship wraparound dash on the inside. What a gem.
97 Prelude SH owner of 14 years. H22a "red top" swapped now and still getting thumbs up every couple weeks or less. Still love looking at this car even after all this time. Honda, bring the prelude back please. 358k on the odometer, don't know how much more she has
I always LOVED the prelude, especially the 4th gen! I will own one some day! I currently have a 2002 accord with the A4 2.3l. its a fun little car and it can take twisty turny roads around my town easily at 70-80 mph. I'm building it up a little bit.
Australia here. I have driven the 5th Gen Prelude, but I prefer the 3rd Gen as it is really cool looking and with 4 wheel steer they go around corners like nothing else. Mine is an '89 model 4ws with the 6BA engine, auto, white with a grey interior, 225,000 km. They cost $45,000 auD here in 1989. I bought mine as a one owner from a 91 yrld dude.
Nobody cared because of the Acura Integra. The Integra was a great car. The 91 Integra was so awesome and that is just the LS. I have never even been in a GSR. But the LS was so good. Those long gears really made you feel how good that B18 was at high RPMs.
I have a 1998 5th Generation Honda Prelude and it’s the 💕Love💕 of my life. I really wish they Still made The Honda Prelude. I get so many compliments on it & people want to buy it. I think the Body Style is Timeless. Thank You for Airing this segment on a truly Beautiful Car 💕🤗💕
I owned the 5th Gen Prelude from 1997 to 2003 and was very impressed with that 2.2L 4-cyl powerplant! It was a great Honda. But I have to admit that the 4th Gen was a beauty. Bring back the Prelude, Honda!!!
My first car was a 1986 Prelude 2.0 Si and it was awesome still in 2002 when I was 16. It handled so nice and was super fun to drive and I smashed it all over the Bay Area hills and Canyons.
Just found it in recommentations. What I expected (and what I got) is a story about a magnificent masterpiece from Honda. I always cry when I hear about Japanese cars of the 90s. The Golden Age we lost... What I didn't expect - 'do svidaniya' at the end of the video))
I miss my 4th gen, wish I never sold it. The dash and the body were amazing for it years and those bucket seats were indestructible. My biggest problem with the vehicle was a pin that holds the cam shaft. Brought so many headaches during the time until I found it. Lol
Prelude was my first 2 cars. I rode in one right before I got my license and fell deeply in love with the digital dash and the look of the car. Reminded me of the long look of the supra. I own a civic today but ultimately would like to sell or trade for a prelude. 4th Gen is by far the best looking Honda ever made
Hey guys! Here’s a link to my second channel if you are into racing games!!

For me, the Prelude 4th gen is one of the most beautiful sports car ever made, it looks a bit agressive but not arrogant
I liked 80s car more so 3rd gen for me but it's just opinions what you like is what you like.
The 4th is the best one. Especially the VTEC prelude.
Real
Driving it today 2.2 vtec 4ws. Great car!!
Who’s integra? I dunno no integra… 😆
Finally some recognition for the prelude! The Honda prelude is severely underrated!
Incredibly underrated
say that when you literally have options for aftermarket, i own a 96 accord wagon, its hard to find parts, hell i might have to use prelude parts, and NSX calipers just to have a entry-level brake upgrade
Real honda guys don't find it underrated. The h22 is call the "God motor" for a reason. They are really hard to find though
@@TherealBushidojones Guess I'm a real Honda guy then.
The Z31 Nissan 300ZX had a similar digital dash, specially in the revmeter.
@@p.informatico1320 Had my hands on one of those a few years back. Would have bought it but it had an issue with first gear and the guy wouldn't come down on the price. It was in great shape too for a 27 year old vehicle.
I liked the wrap-around dashboard that stretched all the way from the driver's window to the passenger's window.
I had that car during every IT job I had, during the late 90’s/early 2000s IT boom.
imo the 5TH gen is my favourite prelude. looks really good in white with a nice low bodykit and lowered
Can’t argue with that
The 2nd gen and the 5th gen or my favorite out of all the Preludes
yasss
The 4th gen is goated
I’m 5th gen all day love the look
Back in 2000 I was in college and my fraternity did a cat wash. This mid-20s guy pulled up in a fully loaded last gen Prelude SI with the manumatic transmission. He let me pull it from the wash bay to the area we were hand drying and I was blown away in that 15-20 seconds. I always liked the Prelude but after that they had a special place in my heart. Never had one, but wouldn't mind getting one!
I love this format a lot, you should do more underappreciated cars, for instance, the mazda mx3/6 the whole rx line, not just the 7, maybe some other stuff as well
Yeah I def think I’ll do some more cars with this for sure but thanks bro
I was actually thinking the same thing you have no clue how happy I was to see the you say mx-3/6 I myself own a 96 pgt and it's a beautiful car and I love driving it, people can talk shit about my failed fwd mustang but Ill always just see the sexy rebadged Mazda with pop ups
The 323gtx was underrated too
Rotary/Wagner engines have a problem with the apex seal. The 787 win at 24 hrs of Le Mans was a fluke.
They can handle a lot of boost since reciprocal masses aren’t subjected to velocity changes. Cute engines tho.
The RX line are very very appreciated in other parts of the world - you won't get an old RX for less than 40k here in Australia
Definitely the best bang for your buck in the twisties outside of a Miata.
are they all front wheel drive?
@@adulfShltler7932 yes
Z3 bruh
My G35x is super smooth on winding roads.
Duncan imports...you're welcome.
I had a 1st gen prelude in high school and it was very slow, however it was an amazing handler. It was much more stable in the corners when compared to my friends mk1 rabbits and sciroccos.
My band director had a 1st gen Prelude. He drive me home from practice one day.
Honda is the best. And I know, being the best is not easy.
The 7th generation Prelude is my all time favorite. If I could fit in one I'd buy it today. The body design was a work of art, hell even the tail lights were beautiful.
Do you happen to mean 5th Generation Prelude? That’s the last generation with the square-ish headlights, they’re pretty sweet👌

While I agree this is the most underrated Honda the most underrated vehicle they made is the 2003 Acura CL type S 6mt. Especially the comptech supercharged version
@@ryanzepeta2801 Yup, i think the 2003 model had the same v6 has the 2016 NSX.
Underrated? Dude. The prelude was every ricers dream car!
I got a first gen and it’s underpowered as hell but it’s super fun and light. Easy to get around corners and downhill it shines
Ha ha "downhill it shines," I love it.
I bought a 4th gen prelude second hand back in the days and this car was so reliable. Even brakes seems impossible to wear-out
Mine used to get warped rotors pretty quick, likely due to the commute I had. It had some high speed highway, then stop and go highway and then a congested long uphill that you had to use your brakes on so you didn't roll back. So basically you had to stand on your brakes after getting them good and hot.
For me, the 4th gen front end and the 5th gen back end fits perfectly
yes dude that’s what i think too
Think an old SuperStreet issue covered someone that beautifully modded his G5 with a G4 front fascia and lights. Sunset Orange if I remember
When the h22 hits 5k it’s pretty addictive. I’ve never driven a car that rewarded you in every way for keeping the pedal pinned to the floor.
straight facts, honestly you just want to go fast as hell to hit that 5k mark, and you can do it in every gear, it’s addicting
Never owned a Prelude, but had a H22 swapped 92 Accord Coupe back in the late 90s/early 2000s and I can totally agree.
Tru. He leaves out alot of details, such as the later Si's (4th and 5th) were stroked, 2.3L, versions of the 2.2 without VTEC
why did US often get the underpowered versions, i.e. E36 M3?
Thanks for making this man, I’ve been wondering why the prelude hasn’t been getting the respect other JDMs are currently getting.
I really think the 5th gen is the best looking after the 3rd. Great video again
I like em all tbh lol
@@joelgittens6857 honestly I prefer the 4th gens front end and the 5th gens read end. Both look good though
There's an episode of "Candid Camera" with Kirk Cameron where he has a 3rd Gen.
That is some seriously obscure trivia; where did you find this knowledge nugget?
Great video summary. As a 4th gen owner, the most striking thing for me right now is the fact that it is 30 years old (mine is 1992), yet it still grabs attention! There is something alarming about a modded 4th gen on VTEC appearing in the rear view mirror haha.
As first Gen Prelude owner, I’m glad to see someone talking about it, even though it wasn’t talked about in the best way haha
Quick note ln the first gen’s engine: in Europe we had a 1.6L 80hp engine, and in Japan they got the 1.8L 90hp, so 15hp more than in the US, not that much, but for a 850-900kg car it’s nice !
I've got a 4th gen 6 MT that I think is prettier than the 5th gen. 5th gen interior is nicer though.
Honda has become a joke.
i mean have you seen mitsubishi..
double wishbone is bask on most honda and acura products..
@@aoescool I don't know what that means
@@dj33036 You're not the 'lone ranger' there, my friend...how does the word "bask" possibly apply to double-wishbone suspension?!

Prelude SI 4th Gen most def underrated ❤️❤️
For me I think it was the HRN216VKA. The performance that thing had was unmatched by anything of its generation. Great cornering. weight distribution was near 50/50. The Mid mounted motor really helped the balance. and Honda reliability to top it all off. They would run forever if you took care of them.
lawnmower lol
Those have great structural rigidity but the suspension is shit, any midcorner bumps throw them off. Great fuel economy though, and low maintenance costs.
@James Campbell, have you considered an HF120 engine swap?
Dude, love that you gave this gem a few minutes of your time. Such an under rated Honda. Specially in the styling department.
I owned a 2nd and 3rd gen and they’re still the favourite of cars I’ve owned.
A prelude clean for 5k? Haha where
I was literally walking past one a few days ago and said to myself out loud “why don’t people talk about these?”
Love your work bro. God bless you

I bought a 95 prelude as my first car ever and I loved it! The looks were perfectly aggressive and still looks good to this day. However this car would’ve been better if it were RWD. Hence when mine died I got a S13 and never looked back until I got my 2020 civic Si.
With a vtec ? Or the less powerful version ?
The 3rd generation was my first car in 1998, I kept it for 7 years before I moved to north america. I loved this car. I always have a special feeling when I see a Honda Prelude on the street. I will have one again soon.
Just needs to be rwd and it would be perfect. 5th. Gen such a great body style! Just saw a nicely done one the other day and it was so clean, a survivor!

I've been in love with the 4th gen ever since seeing one in 1992, I bought one in 2004 as my first car and now own 3 of them
The design in my opinion is the best looking car Japan ever made, if it were instead released by GM a bit larger with a 5ltr V8 and rwd it would have been a great Camaro/Firebird successor
@@perfectsplit5515 you're exactly right, I still feel spoilt when I sit in all 3 of mine, the aggressive animalistic lines of the exterior to the space age fighter pilot interior

I just bought a 97 5th Gen SH off a lady that bought it new in 97 at 60 years old and babied it. This was my dream car in high school, and I love it so far.
'00 SH still my daily 😎
The 3rd Gen will always be the greatest of all time in my humble opinion. I practically grew up in a Phoenix Red 1990 2.0SI 4WS. It was the coolest car in the world of my childhood. Fun fact: The 3rd Gen Prelude had the lowest hood line in history. They did it just to take the title away from the Ferrari Mondiale. The Italians must've freaked out when they learned that the Japanese did it and also managed to put an engine underneath. 😁
Edit: If I could, I would buy a 3rd Gen 4ws, a 4th Gen 4ws and a 5th Gen ('1996 Type S).
I love the prelude. There is one by my house being sold on a lot that I cannot take my eyes off of
I think the earlier Japanese sports cars were more fit for the roads in Japan with lots of twists and turns unlike the huge expanses of straight highways in America
Yes, 100hp for the carbonated 1.8 with double carbonators.
This is why I LOVE 4th gen. lude's
The 5th gen. lease with no money down was $179.99/mo 2yr/12k yr, residual was 93% with a super low money factor.
The Prelude should've been RWD, it has the proportions and I believe it would've continued to stand out among the Honda lineup for longer
5th gen owner since 2K...And I agree with the prelude being the Black sheep of the honda family... I still have mine and love it till the day I die...
I really wish they
Still made The Honda Prelude. I get so many compliments on it & people want to buy it. I think the
Body Style is Timeless. Thank You for Airing this segment on a truly Beautiful Car 💕🤗💕
very interesting video man
I owned the 5th Gen Prelude from 1997 to 2003 and was very impressed with that 2.2L 4-cyl powerplant! It was a great Honda. But I have to admit that the 4th Gen was a beauty. Bring back the Prelude, Honda!!!
I had a 91 prelude si. Lowered with the original rims, a loud exaust, stereo.. What else could a teenager want,I loved that Damm thing
Lol
Got myself a 4th gen 1992 model a few weeks ago. Amazing Car, looks-wise and driving-wise. Best decision I made in a long time
Prelude was my first 2 cars. I rode in one right before I got my license and fell deeply in love with the digital dash and the look of the car. Reminded me of the long look of the supra. I own a civic today but ultimately would like to sell or trade for a prelude. 4th Gen is by far the best looking Honda ever made
