Immediately takes me to the dancing scene to this song on Saturday Night Fever. A MUST watch! A lot of crossover from ballroom dance to disco.

So many great disco songs from that movie Saturday Night Fever. The Bee Gees did a lot of them.

FYI, the Bee Gees never ever referred or wanted to be known as a disco group, it was called the disco era where everybody went out and danced and had fun.

I grew up in the disco era, it was a magical time. They say disco died, no, they just changed what they called it, DANCE MUSIC. The hottest artist of the disco era was Donna Summer. Listen to MacArthur Park, Bad Girls, Hot Stuff, She Works Hard for the Money, her duet with Barbra Streisand No More Tears. She had hit after hit!

Yes, more Bee Gees! JIVE TALKIN’ was their first “disco” period song, but really more R&B funk. Songs they wrote for others during that time and that Barry sometimes provided backing vocals for:
    *Samantha Sang EMOTION
*Yvonne Elliman IF I CAN’T HAVE YOU and LOVE ME
    *Tavares MORE THAN A WOMAN
*Andy Gibb (their baby brother) I JUST WANT TO BE YOUR EVERYTHING & SHADOW DANCING
But you must react to the Bee Gees title song for Saturday Night Fever:
    NIGHT FEVER

thanks, guys - I grew up in the midwest - in the 70's - when "disco" was totally dissed - rock stations staged "rallies" where disco albums were publicly destroyed! - and never, ever thought of myself as a fan of "disco" -- but still, always loved the BeeGees - I think that besides the disco vibe, they also had a little "funk" in them -- okay, not necessarily in this song... but others of the same era - "You should be Dancin'_"Jive Talkin'" - etc. At any rate, the BGs always had that incredible vocal talent - cannot be denied! (if you have time & inclination, I would appreciate your reactions to some of their earlier songs...)

There was a lot to hate about disco, but then there were gems. As a little girl in the 70s it was cool to hear so many strong women on the radio. Bee Gees got a ton of undeserving flack for being successful songwriters who dominated the charts with their own recordings and writing for other artists.

I prefer the TAVARES version from the practice scene but love this one as well! BOTH versions are in the movie!

Disco is the music of love and acceptance. The first music of real diversity. It was the first music where all were invited: Old, young, rich or poor. It was the first music to understand the LGBT community. It didn't matter your race, your creed, your sexual orientation, or your physicality. Disco embraced everyone, and for that it paid the price. In the late 70's the "Disco Sucks" crowd were overwhelming white. There angry response was to persecute disco lovers, smash disco records and ban disco from radio stations. Clearly the phrase still exists today, but it's time for all that to change.

Just remember, The Bee Gees is so much more than Disco. They have between them written more than 1000 songs. Not all released and not all by themselves.
They have released 22 studio albums spanning from 1965 to 2001. They have made music in nearly every genre there is even classical music.
The Disco periode only span over 1975 to 1979. It was clearly their most succesful period but they had their first number 1 in 1967 and the up to now last one was a cover of on of their songs in 2009. They themselves called it R&B, which many of the songs clearly are.
From 1977 to 1980 they wrote 12 number ones they either released themselves or was released by others
    It was the following songs:
How Deep Is Your Love, Night Fever, Stayin' Alive, Too Much Heaven, Tragedy and Love You Inside Out By Themselves.
I Just Want To be You Everything, (Love Is) Thicker Than Water and Shadow Dancing by Their Brother Andy Gibb
If I Can't Have You by Yvonne Elliman
Woman In Love by Barbra Streisand
    Grease by Frankie Valli
Barry Gibb, the last survivng brother released an album in 2016 called In The Now and it reached number 2 in the UK.
He is also releasing an album in january 2021 called Greenfields. If you like you can listen to the first released song here where he sings with Country singer Jason Isbell:

Bee Gees have taken their rightful place in History. They are brothers who started singing as children, made it big in Australia as teens, moved back to Great Britain (the place of their birth), signed on with the same company the Beetles were with. Their manager split with the company and took them with him. Became stars and young millionaires. Had some rough times but came back with an R&B style (see their song Jive Talkin among others) Moved to the US and lived in Florida. (The oldest brother, Barry, is still there). They became a huge success with their album “Saturday Night Fever.” After that, fell out of popularity and were literally kicked to the side by the media and music industry. They began writing songs for other artists: Dionne Warwick, Barbara Streisand, Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton, Diana Ross and others. The Bee Gees have had major success for 4 decades. No other band has had their longevity. They began hitting their stride again in the 1990s and early 2000’s when Maurice Gibb died unexpectedly. Most recently Barry released video of him and Michael Jackson recording in Barry’s home studio. MJ is Godfather to Barry’s son, Michael Gibb.
So there is way more History about this band than the Disco era. Their music is everywhere.

Disco still gets a bad rap...it is the only music i know that makes you move and feel love, pain or happiness at same time. the String section was the emotinal connection to disco music, The Brothers Gibb did this with this song. get goose bumps everytime i hear the first 5 seconds. the metal heads hated Disco because Disco really did take over the music industry. there still hasnt been a genera that has dominated the world like Disco did. i am not exaggerating the phenomenon that took place from 1976`-1979. Every musical act was getting in on the Disco movement from the Stones, Pink Floyd, Dolly Parton, KISS, Rod Stewart, Marvin Gaye and even Ethal Merman to name a few. Disco versions of Star Wars Theme, Beethoven's 5th were big hits. There was a lot of Disco dancing shows. Radio rock stations were changing their format to Disco. as you can begin to see, Disco was over exposed and started getting campy and silly. the Rick Dees released Disco Duck and that was the begining of the the fast hard crash of Disco. that and the Disco record burning that was held in a stadium and televised. it was a racist, jealous act of a dj prank that put the nail in the coffin....................i hope you two discover so much beautiful music when DISCOvering DISCO!!! get deep into it , not just the pop artist with disco hits. check out. Cerrone: "Love in C minor". France Joli: "Come to Me", "Heart to Break the Heart", Santa Esmeralda: "Dont Let Me Be Misunderstood". St Tropaz "One More Minute" to name few. have fun on journey

Feeling down? Listened to disco to pick you up? No surprise! Hoping we can have a disco party after all this Covid passes because that's what disco was all about!! Tagline from the disco movie "Thank God It's Friday": AFTER 6,000 YEARS OF CIVILIZATION WE ALL NEED A BREAK!

The Bee Gees are excellent writers, musicians and performers. People who write off Disco or The Bee Gees as a Disco group don't understand the reach of their influence. Most people don't know just how many songs the Gibbs wrote for other people throughout their career or realize how long they've been around.
I recommend looking through not only the songs they recorded but also the songs they wrote for others, including their younger brother Andy Gibb.♥️

Love the Bee Gees. Ya'll need to react to more of their music. The brothers had a very long singing career. They started singing together when Barry was about 9 and the twins were 6.

You need to catch the scene in the movie where they dance to this song. You’ll want to be on the floor along side them.
