    I wouldn't say all the best philosophers are comedians, but many of the best comedians are philosophers on some level.

    Picked up the torch from carlin and Pryor... Too many comedians just want to make the audience satisfied, rather than making themselves laugh while making a point...

    Stanhope is probably the greatest comic alive.

    • @derwienernuts
      @derwienernuts Рік тому

      I think the "greatest alive" and "greatest of all time" thing is a wasted area of compliment. Like for me personally I find Doug to be great because he looks into a dark world in a dark way that I do, but instead of seeing only despair he finds fucked up humor and even wisdom that is tempered in shit from the vastly dark place he views it from. The best part is it makes people like me and you happy and willing to write comments on a video that's basically a barren wasteland. We are yelling into the void that we love this artistic endeavor, we might as well do it in our own words and not some hallmark bullshit

  • @owlcu

    He's not saying it's cool to be lazy, he's saying that if you get your priorities straight your life will feel less like work and more like you, just doing what you would do for free anyway. Look at him -- he makes it look easy to go onstage, get drunk and tell the truth, but I guarantee he works his ASS off on his material so he doesn't suck, and when the people laugh it validates his job.

    I'm 24 and haven't worked a day of my life. And I gotta say, it's an awesome job! I love when people try to look down on me based on that fact. What people can't have for themselves, they frown and cry about. Consumerism n capitalism have paved the way for my family. People need to stop bitching and save n invest in original ideas. Not spend thousands of dollars for christmas gifts every year and insist on having the biggest LED TV. We all could have gotten a piece of the pie but too late!

    Stanhope is amazing. Its like there has been an evolutionary shift from Lenny Bruce to Bill Hicks to Doug Stanhope, and each shift they get more and more disappointed and angry at how fucked up our culture has gotten. Carlin was my #1 of best performing comedians ... Stanhope now moves into that slot because I have taken Carlin out of my address book..

    Doug always sounds like he's just talking extemporaneously. Just seems to come so natural to him. Most comics I really can't listen to their whole set. Doug I've listened to all his routines about a dozen times. He's the best.PS Attell is funny as fuck also. All the time

    • @derwienernuts
      @derwienernuts Рік тому

      Attell is like the opposite of Doug as an aerator. But I get you. They look at things in a very interesting realistic, negative, but somehow hopeful way. Like something is fucked. But maybe there is something to learn? So maybe there is something to change? Idk just goin off at you cause I'm sick and bored

  • @blinddoctorwho

    @BillKiernan You got a point there, the idea behind giving some sort of shot to the underprivileged, enter a meritocratic society. Some semblance of hope for the dreamers but at the end of the day, realistically speaking merit can only get you so far and even that is hindered by the fact that if you're born underprivileged you're access to means will reflect that, which calls into question the whole giving them a real shot or just giving them the illusion of false hope to keep them working.

    @PhilanVortex Its true. I'm a poor Belgian writer and i'm going to live with lots of friends in an anti-squat building which is HUGE! It was an artschool a couple of years ago and has like 30 big empty rooms, but now we can build a commune to help young artists and musicians. When you have a shitjob (most jobs are shite btw) you don't have time to think what you really want in life. Money is becoming more and more irrelevant.

    If it wasn't for poor people who have no choice but to work nobody would work at all and RIGHTLY SO!!! Why can't the rich figure this out? Do you think a Hilton or a Kardashian would VOLUNTARILY get out of bed at four in the morning and work all day at a Target store or a McDonalds? No. As far as I'm concerned, if it's the duty of ONE person to work for a living then it's the duty of EVERYONE ELSE to work for a living as well; otherwise NO ONE should have to work for a living at all.

Meanwhile rich kids in New Jersey get caught with cocaine and NOTHING happens. And even the work thing.... you lower your ONGOING expenses and you WON'T HAVE to work much. Like me. yeh well it kind of annoys me when you have the sort of people who just wont stop doing things all the goddam time.. and they just keep trying to convince themselves that they are needing to keep doing things.. keep doing things.. and then because of that they basically get nasty at you because they see you as not doing as much as them.. you start to see the inconsistent logic here..haha
    and i mean i wonder, i just wonder whether it would actually change the way that people generally, especially the younger gens attitude towards work/labour if we decided to stop saying the word hard. i mean maybe if your trying to punish someone, but generally speaking its a male made word to get an essence of grit into what they are saying.. but its not healthy and it is not necessary.

    rocktheflow - Why do you think Doug Stanhope hates the country he lives in? Do you think he hates the universe he lives in too? The universe contains many people, places and things, some of which he probably likes and some of which he probably doesn't. Just so the country, except that countries are ultimately human-created abstractions rather than scientifically measurable manifestations of reality. I'm sure Doug Stanhope dislikes the U.S. *government*, but I consider that a prerequisite to run!

    You mean, their governments doing so -- not reckognizing his free speech. Well, that's one freedom that is also eroding away, too.
    Sure, America does have more perks than most others right now, but it's no reason to surrender to what's already taken what we've lost.

    @datazndood i dont know what to say to that to be honest, maybe there was a point there but the way you arranged those words makes it impossible to find. The bottom line is supply and demand? what the fuck do you mean? that things that have no immediate purpose have no place in this universe? what does that say about your life and attitude?

    @wyrda222 As I haven't met the bloke I cannot say from experience, but that is what I suspect. When you have suspicions do you refuse to air them simply out of fear of using long words and so being thought too well educated? If so that's very sad.
