    I saw this man perform live last week. It was an experience like no other. He is without a doubt a musical genius, perhaps even the Beethoven of our generation.

      I've been thinking in similar terms about Nils for a while, too. As Beethoven did throughout his career by constantly sending feedback to piano manufacturers, Nils is also pushing the piano as an instrument and piano music forward by for example working with piano manufacturer David Klavins in creating the tallest of its kind yet. Only think of the possibilities of such colossal piano! Nils is questioning the piano design and rethinking it, Klavins made this UnaCorda exemplar for him which he took on his last tour.
      Is not pretentious to compare him with Beethoven but actually just a bar we have to size the impact of Nils' music today, when is hard to find ground-shaking ideas and fresh sounds. (That being said, the whole bunch signed under Nils' record label, Erased Tapes, are all worth listening to and all have quite unique sounds).

    just discovered this dude and his understanding on how a place influences music is fantastic as that is what makes me love music so much. experiencing a mosh pit in a dive bar, listening to throat singers that trained in the mountains, electronic music in an abandoned warehouse, these are special things that we are all lucky to experience.

      Except, this is not an abandoned warehouse, it's the sound studio of old East Germany’s GDR. And Frahm is one artist occupying a *custom-built* studio in the vast complex. :P (I agree that the soul of one's music is the what makes it worth listening to...)

      I recorded many albums in that studio(P4),and all I can say is,what a waste...this place is perfect for recording bands(in my case it was jazz and contemporary music).
      Not so much for a monophone sequencer track.
      But still,all the best.
      That's the reality of today

    For me nowadays the location makes 50% of the experience i think. i passed on several concerts lately just because the tourorganization booked a place that initally was build for sportevents f.e. The Funkhaus i think is the best location i ever been to. Seeing Niels there was mind blowing. looking forward to oktober. :)

    💜 I am so inspired by this music ... so inspired by this artist. I got reminded of Björks song Yoga "State of emergency is where I want to be ..." when he spoke about the danger of being in loss of control while performing. Yes, that's so true ...

    "once the album is finished, it destroys all the other possible albums which were in the making..."
    this is so true for any person who does any type of art. as an artist you make that close to 100% subjective decision "I think people will like and I kinda like it" and lock that huge amount of creativeness somewhere in your head, pc, external hdd

    Was für ein mittelmäßiges Kameragefummel für einen großartigen Musiker! Da das nie auf Breitwand in einem Kino laufen wird - was sollen denn die doofen Scope-Balken? Is ne Mode, ick weeß... 16:9 filmt sich besser und macht den Screen schön voll. Wie Nils' Musik meinen Kopfhörer. Komponiert er denn mit "Balken"? Eben.

    imagine Nils Frahm, Olafur Arnalds, Bugge Wesseltoft & Henrik Schwarz in one room together with a few grand pianos and a few synths, that would, in my mind. make for fun results, each of them being as proficient on the piano as they are on synths…

      He uses Cubase, he's done a video with Steinburg explaining why he likes it. Also, the laptop is for plug-ins. He once did an interview saying it was impossible to transport some of the equipment, though the computer reliance is being phased out.

    • @p0wernirk
      @p0wernirk 7 років тому +2

      Actually,I think he is using a laptop as a sequencer. Also, it is possible to send clock input from a cubase to Juno's arpeggiator (just electrical signals for arp rhythm). Im pretty sure he is using midi to Juno on his fantastic track called "All melody". What a great musician...Inspiration bomb :D

    The Funkhaus is an ultra pretentious, smokey (yes, smoking indoors like it's 1976), suffocating venue with no seats - yes, you stand for 3 hour mind-numbing performances.. populated by psuedo-hipsters who are allergic to smiling and think that anything different is better, even if it's unequivocally bad. Been there twice (just because I thought the first impression was wrong), both times were a torture. Never again.
