On the 28th of July 2015 Ólafur Arnalds and Nils Frahm met up at Nils's Durton Studio in Berlin, and invited Alexander Schneider and his camera to document it. But instead of ending the session after the first take we continued to improvise throughout the night, ending up with several new pieces written and recorded in 8 hours with no overdubs and no edits.

Some of my friends use to say that i am only listening to sad music.
But when I‘m listening to these guys I don‘t feel sad, not at all. I feel so much more. I feel comfort, I feel warmth
I feel at home.
When I close my eyes I don‘t think, I just sit there and listen to this music and know that everything is gonna be fine.
It makes me sad that my friends don’t understand this music and its incredible beauty. I hope everyone who read this enjoy it as much as i do
Thank you Olafur and Nils
This resonates with me so much, well put into words!
so you got good old Viking soul resting in you after all that hard war times ☺️
Exactly!
This music is anything but sad. It's powerful, engrossing, emotional, evocative and invigorating. These two musicians use harmonics the way a painter uses pigments. More than anything else I find their music to be simple, highly-saturated beauty.
You are understood, my friend
When I found out that Olafur & Nils (whom I discovered and listened to extensively separately) were friends and jammed out together, I felt genuine hope for humanity.
Tan bello es Escucharlos Es Como un juego de Melodías .Imágenes .Movimientos Emociones .Me Encantan .Cajita de Musica en sus Manos ❤️❤️🎆🎇🌺🌺😘😘🥂🥂🌬️🌬️🌌
I have listened to this every single night before bed for almost 3 years.
do u have a perfect pitch by now ?
Fine taste. Just the perfect stretch within the day... Triple A. Stay safe!
Impressive!!!
Yeah, definitely one of my go tos when I sit down to draw
Have you seen Nils or Olafur live ??
My daughter was born to 20:17. Thank you for beautiful music to go with beautiful memories
"I'll keep it more minimal this time..."
"Yeah, I'll stick to like 3 notes too..." - the genius of these guys. Thanks for this film!
transports me to a place without pain and suffering.
Close your eyes to see better.
+Caleb Rankin 😌
good piece of advice
Close your eyes to see what's worth.
I dig it!
i agree. because the camera work is horrible.
UGH. Their friendship as musicians, I would watch their vlogs Everday!
I never left a comment on this video in the last couple years because every time I listen I'm speechless. Now I guess I can at least say that much.
I cannot believe this has been released almost 7 years ago, still creating the same emotions as when I have listened it for the first time, with 23:52 still giving me goosebumps. I would love to hear the set live, in some cosy place, where you just enjoy your presence and forget of all the other things. Thanks for this!
24:10 - goosebumps!
Stunning. Love their collaborative harmony. And all the comments here remind me that there are folks in this world who can hear and appreciate subtlety and beauty. 🌅
Well this is easily the greatest video I've ever seen in my life.
+thankyoumisterspell Then you should watch Olafur Arnald's Living Room Songs too .... also a-fucking-mazing
thankyoumisterspell you are amazing also
This reminds me of simple times in my youth before i became restless irritable and discontent. When i used to be able to listen to ambient music in the summer in Hulme in Manchester listening to Harold Budd with the windows open. I'd love to feel like that again. This gave me some nostalgia for those times in the late 80s early 90s. Thank you
Exactly
I used to have friends who lived that way in the late 80s too. Yeah, this bought back memories too for me - one of them could play Piano too, although not as good as these guys (:
this apartment is fucking heaven or what? a four voice and ps3100 (and all the other insanely cool shit)? wow. not to mention two of my favourite contemporary composers under one roof co-creating. this is certainly heaven, without a doubt. keep it up guys- you deserve all the toys and money and then some.
Have you ever seen/heard an instrument played so perfectly, you can't breathe for a little while? That's what this is for me.
The first two tracks (20:17 & 21:05) and 03:06 are an arc of thought, reflection and memory for the grieving.
Magnificent Opus.
My Great Aunt just passed away yesterday. Hearing the piano theme with a light, harmonic texture underneath was something that I needed to allow my mind to go into some deep thoughts. Truly musical in what you have here.
❤️💭
Beautiful! 😊
+Anjunadeep salute to anjuna team for knowing brilliant music
@anjunadeep...fantastic that Olafur and Nils have your attention
I love you guys, thanks for all the beautiful music
This is one of the most beautiful music albums in human history. Music that speaks to your heart, so you can clear your head and find the peace within
After all those years, this keps bringin me back here, honestly the album is perfect, but the track 20:17 is one the most beautiful things that i had ever listened. Thanks Olly and Nils, i wouldnt be here without your songs. Sending Love from Brazil.
"That was good"
"Yeah"
O_O
03:16 is so beautiful, it broke me from the inside out! I could feel all the love in my life, all the beautiful folks and all the lost loves
Sit, relax, let go of whatever it is...close your eyes and just float with this, wherever it may guide you.
This track they did together was superb, almost has a strong Bavarian feel to it!
One of my favorite vinyls 🙌🎵
I thought about making a tracklist here in the comments. But as a matter of fact, you should listen to this in one piece. It is worth taking the time, I really enjoyed it.
Such a privilege to see these two modern-day Da Vincis of music letting their creative magic loose. Fantastic!
Hmmmm
Acceptable...
It’s almost too much to be with. Their music stirs me at my core. In a good way. It moves me to deep profound grateful tears. Thank you thank you thank you 💛
When Im listening to this song, there are moments that I stop breathing. It feels like everything disappears, all bad moments, all bad thoughts.
Thanks for this master piece❤
i often feel likeif someone asks me what kind of music i hear, i don't answer with Nils Frahm or Ólafur Arnalds just because its more that just that. This should not be compared with some pop, rock or dance music. I think if someone would ask me about art, i would tell them about this. Its nothing to sing or dance along. It's something to reflect and fly away from everything. It's the experience of music that counts right here. Thank you for this
20:17 makes me cry, because my mom die and i feel like she still here...
The music feels like a real experience, not an experience that actually happened, but definitely something thats actually possible and you are feeling it through the music, and it's a beautiful experience, whatever is at the center of this lovely experience is something that's too pure to exist in the world as we know it and experience it, but if somehow it's possible to feel this type of love, it'd be a shame if we didn't pursue it all together.
Mark my words: these men are the greatest of our time
this is the most beautiful thing i have ever seen.
When you watch and hear this you know there is a higher power in the universe, beautiful.
Two in this case ;)
Definitely these songs have helped me to be at peace with myself, in moments of depression and anxiety, also to reflect on the course of my life. It is magical how each note conveys a unique feeling.
How could anyone dislike this!?
for at least 4 years i have listened to this piece of music (20:17) on a fairly regular basis and it still brings me joy every time I hear it. Thank you Olafur and Nils :)
My heart aches with love for the music you create in this. My dream life in one video. Love you guys, never stop.
I can't stop dreaming of those piano sheets. it's impossible to describe, what does this music mean to me. you guys are just amazing
ist das schön, ich liebe diese Musik.
what a meditation
15:20 this song made me cry. the high pich tone made me feel really alone. The piano gave me a confused and distorted feeling, a nervous tension was building. Followed by the low horn that made feel like some forgotten memory just squeezed out the aggony that was long subdued.
I'm sure Frahm imagined 'Sunson'' while improvising this. Lovely...
Eine wundervolle Art...Schon lange nicht mehr so berührende Musik gehört,wie diese.
if this had at least 3 million views, there would be no more war
Che pace.... che meraviglia.....Grazie Ragazzi.....🙂
Eating pizza with a friend and make epic songs, seems a nice way to spend the evening 🍕 ❤️
The descending line at 11:25 will never cease to make me happy
The 6 people who have disliked this video seriously need to review their life situation pronto!
If you have a problem with people that don´t share your opinion, maybe you should review your mental health. This is music, some won´t like every kind of music you like. These guys are not bad but this emotional overacting doesn´t look real to me. So yes - I don´t like it too much. But I would not click dislike here, but others will and thats okay.
Edit: I really like Olafur Arnalds but I cannot look at Nils Frahm without starting to laugh.
You got it. When I was a student at University, there was a group of people who insisted that it had to be the Rolling Stones, otherwise it wasn't worth listening to. It was that making of me as a musician. Far, far, away frm college campus life. I'm afraid.
I loved every second of this!!!
The CD is on the 'Erased Tapes' website? Maybe it wasn't released at the time of your comments but it's in the description now.
I like the new Territory they go in to... That is what art is all about...
listening to these two guys always makes me forget everything around.
The gear in that room is insane! Look at all that rare vintage stuff! Well used for sure too!
Breathtaking. I have the album, but it never occurred to me before that this would have been filmed. Thank you Erased Tapes.
These two men are so beautiful - what a gift for us; them being in the world - - -i would have never known of Olafur but for Broadchurch soundtrack - and then searched for anything he did; thus also finding Nils Frahm -Wonderful!!!!
...watching this could revive your faith in humanity for a while ... I hope they'll keep up this quality for many years to come...
Creative intelligence is only generated by community, very seldom by oneself. Good collaboration. !
So beautiful, so beautiful, so beautiful
it makes me feel like I'm floating in time and space
I'd love to be their neighbour!
Mostly for that pizza though.
1000%
Hahahah I was actually thinking that whilst watching (:
Imagine them being your downstairs neighbors. Sleep would come so easily every night.
@@souldier2875 it depends if the sound insulation is good, I hate cracking floors...
I love that PS 3100 + RE 501 .... absolutely awesome
The collaboration between these two mage-born musicians never goes stale. Listening to them gives one a new lease on life.
I immediately fell in love with this music.
It's like their souls are talking to each other when they play.
Shot in berlin with two of the most gifted geniuses around today...this is heaven
This is therapy.
I am sure, considering all past comments, I am not alone by saying : THIS emotional music collaboration, and/or also those guys each themselves performing solo - well - it is And has been:
So so so healing to me….in such ways I cannot even describe it - but thats what‘s music is for, I play the piano myself, and whenever I feel totally exhausted, overwhelmed, inable to speak emotions - I sit down and play my piano.
And some people said, its way too melancholic, but fuck yes - that is raw not censored feelings you‘re listening to. And then again, close friends tell me „fuck, i feel so close to your soul your heart, thank you for trusting me that much to play „your feelings to me““.
(At this point, ….thank you, nils and olafur, for trusting, that your beauty of expressing emotions, experience, notes, ideas , all in one, and believing in people over the globe, FEELING it and being maybe encouraged themselves, like I am, to KEEP ON GOING NO MATTER WHAT.
Bottom line…
Those guys used their emotions, feelings, and - didnt push them away - instead decided to collaborate / or individually took on the possibility, that WE ARE ALL LONGING FOR EXPRESSION OF EXPERIENCE IN ALL ITS FORMS. No matter what society thinks. Peace.
Peace, Love, Unity and Respect. #ForeverInLoveWithSynths
Ah, to be young and beautiful like these two once again... heaven with the whole future stretching out ahead of them. Bravo! Thank for posting.
this is beautiful ...
Ive been listening to nils, olafur and some kiasmos.. and Im actually ignoring this video suggestion for the longest time(somehow, I KNEW I'D LISTEN TO THIS anyway), and now for the first time i clicked it, now I know why skipped on this, i was really just preparing myself to some cosmic dive...
At the top of their crafts.. these guys are masters. Thanks to everyone involved on this audio video recording. I will definitely listen to this all the time.
Much love from the Philippine, I hope all y'all are enjoying your day
What a beautiful sound. I listen to this song every evening on Soundcloud. Mesmerizingly beautiful !! I hope this music is available in south Africa

Thank you for your work, your dedication, your passion.
40 minutes of love. Thank you!
+Pauline Bizarre so true....
Absolutely stunning. I sit here and watch and listen. This calms me down even more than a 45 min meditation! The only thing is left is this feeling of longing to be able to have this sort of night myself.
Beautiful... as always your work leaves me moved and in silent place. Thank you
I’ve been looking for this video for the past few weeks. Glad I found it.
I can't stop listening to this! Beautiful work, as ever!
This has me almost as excited as I was for living room songs. Brilliant work!
I can't even process what I'm watching... This is incredible

Magnificent music as always! Truly inspirational. Good luck with your work!
The experience of this lovely film is so complete that I need to hear the creaking floorboards and door handle before hearing the first song...And that pizza looks yum!
Had truly peaceful time while listening. Deep and light. Thank You!!
Still fresh and inspiring... thank you guys !!
Wonderful sounds they are making, very unique journeys!
Its a gift for us! Thanks a lot!
