Man I miss this truck. Had a 95 gmc 2500 back in highschool as my first ride. Had some knobby tires and threw a mattress in the back for after parties and roadies. Good times. You’re making me wanna get my hands on one again! Love what you’ve done with yours, that thing is one mean off-roading machine!
Fortune Off-Road What state are you in? I’m in CA... looking to get some advice on SAS. Run into any major issues? You should seriously do another vid all about your SAS and how you were able to do it on your own. Parts needed.. tools.. issues.. pros vs cons.. cost.. ✌️
Live this truck. Been trying to find videos on a build like this. It's a real bummer I can't hear half of what you're saying. What rear axel did you use?
Lately I have been trying to plan a future build, I have considered a suburban because I wouldn't mind using it for overland/road tripping type use with my wife and two dogs. But I really want something I can go wheeling with; your truck is exactly what I had in mind, basically hits two birds with one stone. Lift and tires isn't too radical but still looks pretty capable, the sas and suspension looks awesome. Over all super sweet build man.
Thanks dude! This has been a great truck so far. For the same reasons you listed, plus to have a light duty tow rig and cheaper price compared to the truck variant, this is a nice option. We have a sleeping platform in the back that folds out so we can camp in comfort. It's got me hooked on rockcrawling again so we are now building a samurai to team up with the burb! Good luck on your build!
@@FortuneOffRoad I would like to see a video of the sleeping Arrangement. working on my 1997 K2500 with a drawer system with a sleeping platform that folds down when the second row seating is folded down.
@@adamtedder700 You got it! I planning on making a video of my next camping/wheeling trip, but it's been postponed due to current events. It's on the list to do! Thank for the feedback.
Thanks dude! You still can do the SAS. I started collecting the parts over a year long period and then when I was about 80% there I started on the swap.
Fortune and Death copy that, thank you. I picked up a set of the Allan/ORD front packs. We have the rear shackle flip but didn’t see the option for rear front hangers.
Love your build I got a 96 suburban this is what I have plan to do for mine is it possible to do another video just going over everything you did and what you bought? If possible still an awesome rig
Lookin to put a Dana 60 under the same rig but it’s a ball joint not a kingpin thoughts? Suggestions? Out of a 2002 F250 I believe, I don’t plan on any hardcore wheelin.
I think ball joint axles are the future since there are only so many kingpins out there. From what I understand, 2005 is where improvements were made. If you Google the axle you should be able to find good data. Should be fine! Off road design has a great SAS page if you want more info. 🤙🏻
Looks real good man, I just purchased my 99 5.7l I want to do a good off road set up, and I'd love to know some good ideas, since I new to this chevy big bodies, I came from drifting cars, and wanted to try something a little different. And so far, I'm loving it
I really like to have a good set up like yours, I'm a prepper and I'm always going hunting or even trail riding but, I just baught this suburban with little work done to it already... Like know your lift kit Tires and anything that will help stand against any climbing
Which "Detroit Locker(s)" do you have. Apparently some other companies have no been using "Detroit Locker" and so there is some confusion (by me) as to which is which. I was looking to add the "Torsen" design locker(s) to my '96 K2500 but don't know which is best and if it is OK to have an auto-locking front Locker if I drive on the street in the rain. I would appreciate any advice. Thank you for this great video!
I have Eaton full Detroit lockers. They are great off road but the front might be too much for you if you drive in bad conditions on-road. A selectable might be a better option. 🤙🏻
Nice rig Broseph! I love lifted Suburbans. I have a 2011 on a 7” lift and 35s. What size tires are those? Do you know how much weight the solid axle swap added? It’s a catch twenty two trying to build them strong but cut the weight down for good wheeling.
Fortune Off-Road Wow! Do you get stuck in mud and sand a lot? How about going up steep inclines? I removed the rear seats, running boards and lightened up the exhaust system. All the off-road bumpers I’ve looked at are really freakin heavy. Do you use the winch often? They make racing heavy duty CV axles now. I’m not sure which way I’m going to go yet, those or an axle swap. The nice thing about the CVs is you can still use off-road coil overs up front. My truck uses coils not leaf springs. I had to NorCal mod my front fenders to fit the 35 x12.50s on, mines a different generation Suburban than yours. It can run on $2.30 a gallon E85 Flex Fuel and has a 6speed transmission with a aluminum engine. I want to weigh it on a scale.
Could you do a video of how you did the np241 swap in it i dont want to have the buttons in there once im done swapping i was tolled the front diff needs to be rewired?
I don't have that truck anymore. The swap is very simple though. Both transfer cases use the same wires and plugs. You'll have to cut a hole in the floor for the shifter, but you can trace the shape out of a donor vehicle at pick n pull. It makes the cut a lot easier. That's what I did. The buttons on the dash will still be there, but they don't do anything.
I didn't do a good job on this video. First one! Tires are 37x12.50r17. Cooper Discoverer STT Pro. Great tires. Wheels are Cragar Soft 8 17x8 w/4.0 BS. 🤙🏻
@@FortuneOffRoad Awesome, thanks. I thought they looked like 37s but wasnt sure. Looking to pick up a Tahoe of the same vintage sometime this summer and do an almost exact setup.
I'm a HUGE Suburban guy, so always looking forward videos like these. Unfortunately, your voice is very quiet, and the (unnecessary) music was too loud in some parts. Overall, I love the build. So cool. Just would like to hear "truck stuff", as opposed to "filler music".
Badass build! I’m slowly working on my 99 suburban, slowly but surely
Pretty cool to see suburban built up!
Dude this is my dream vehicle! You've done one heck of a job on it!

I just bought a ‘99 and your truck looks and works slick! Congrats
From Edmonton Canada
Thanks dude!
Did you do the swap yourself? My ‘95 needs a SAS !!
I did! It was quite the process, but well worth it. Like a different truck afterwards. 🤙🏻

I'm planning on it! Having some.transmission problems that are keeping it in the driveway at the moment. 😪
I'm in CA too, outside of Sacramento.
Really nice work man, looks clean and serves its purpose
Trying to get another one of these my father in law has a 2500 with a 454 and she an awesome overland vehicle

Yeah, that was my first video! 14 bolt rear axle
Love it! Good job and thanks for the info. I’ll be doing the same thing to mine.

Thanks, I sold it but just went wheeling with the guy yesterday. Video out on Sunday will have some footage of the burb wheeling on some rocks 🤘🏻

What front springs are you using? We’re planning a similar build. Yours turned out great.
The front springs are 3" tough country EZ ride, 47" long. Rears are stock with shackle flip and spring hanger drop. 🤙🏻
Fortune and Death copy that, thank you. I picked up a set of the Allan/ORD front packs. We have the rear shackle flip but didn’t see the option for rear front hangers.
