I run a similar setup to this, cool to see others utilizing the suburban. It is a really good multi functional vehicle for a family, and used ones are pretty inexpensive and easy to work on.
100% right there. More vids will come ahead at some point. I intend to activate power enrichment and increase torque limits on the suburban via HPTuner in the future. There will be updates on this vehicle sometime in the future.
Perfect first vehicle! I bought an 89 burb for my first truck, gas is expensive but putting in a fuel pump was $40, dropping the tank was easy sans rust. Putting in a starter was $40, two bolts and two wires. Brakes were $150, only needed a spindle nut socket. Everything’s cheap to replace and easy to replace. If you want to have your S/O, friend, or kid learn to wrench, a suburban is a great place to start!
Wow, it's like looking at my own story... Had a couple of first gen pathfinders. Then went with a chevy express long wheel base. Made a camper out of it, kept it 3 wonderful years. Sold it this autumn, for the same reasons as you. Bought myself a 2nd gen tahoe 2 weeks ago. THE SAME COLOR... how crazy is that !!!
Well that just shows you know whats up! I gotta get this Pathfinder back on the streets I tell ya. Been rollin with Josh in the Burb. Pathfinder video comin shortly
Great video! I scoured the country looking for a very clean 4WD GMT400 4-dr Tahoe. Found a 1999 model in showroom condition in Boise, brought it home to California. I was trying to decide between the 4-dr Tahoe and a Suburban. (I already have a 2-dr GMT400 Tahoe which I love, but I like to sleep in the back and it’s a little tight back there.) Decided on the 4-dr Tahoe because it’s a foot longer than the 2-dr with only a 6-inch longer wheelbase, but it’s 20 inches shorter than a GMT400 Suburban. I just got a 5-inch RCD suspension with Bilstein 5100 shocks installed - it sits great and the ride is FANTASTIC! Toyo Open Country AT/III and new KMD 18” wheels on order. I also just finished building a very nice removable bed for the back.
Sounds awesome man. A nice balanced build and you started with a clean example; thats the way to do it. I have a feeling we are gonna be seeing a lot of Suburban and Tahoe builds in the future. They really seem to be catching attention of overland people.
Great video.Lots of great information.I own a 2003 gmc yukon xlt 4x4.I bought new.It now has 190,000. It is beast, and has never let me down, or my family of 6..keep on truckin and have fun.
I recently found a 1997 Tahoe for $1500. I'm really excited! This is my first American V8 powered vehicle. It's spacious and comfortable. It's also the first vehicle I've owned with 4x4 and 4 wheel low gear. I took it up to the snowing mountains in Washington state, and it handled great. I have LT Rated 265/75/16 mud tires on now. It needed a few repairs, and leveling. Torsion key is cranked, and no rear blocks or leaf springs yet, but so many plans on what I'd like to do. I'm thinking about 5100's, Camshafts and springs and rockers next. And camping. I have an old mattress in the back now, rear seats folded down, and camping gear inside already for the next weekends adventure
Nice...yeah, check out the other suburban vids we did. He tests a little further. He airs down to about 20psi usually, and we've made some good trip off road in it.
Just bought a 2004 z71 burb to build similar to this! Thank you for sharing. There are a lot of pictures of built Suburbans, but very little content of them actually going on trail! I think most are mall crawlers! haha
You Dude’s put the Hammer 🔨 on the Nailing IT!! I’m a Jersey Gal on the fence.. However, seeing the test performance has Sold me.. yeah oo yeah .. I really need that type of driving vehicle!!!
Being a family of 6, we know all about needing space.... We have a Yukon XL that we use as our base camp. Outfitted with a RTT, awning, and kitchen in the back.... It flat tows our JKU Rubicon that I have custom built in a 3rd row seat for the trail adventures!
I love the suburban, my first car was a suburban. I’m trying to get another one right now, I can’t wait to start a new build this video is absolutely awesome. Very nice Chevy!
Thanks for that. I work hard on my vids...some qre better than others...a lot of work but I enjoy it and its nice to hear when folks appreciate some of the content. Thanks for watching!
I have an 89 burb. I figured since it was my first truck it should have manual lockers and no nannies. The first car my dad put a car seat in for me was a white 02. Burbs are in my blood, and this did make me a little giddy :)
You put it heavy off angle? Feel like COG is too high for complex trails? You have about 13-14" of total lift there with the tire. You have any trail vids? I kind of think a suburban cut to fit 37's on a small body lift and a leveling kit could be a good compromise. Just curious what youve experienced.
@@KnightDriveTV check out (dirtnation at gold mountain this trail never disapoints). I am the white suburban. I break a cv shaft on obstacle 2. Then the wheel just past the rock garden. Lol good times! I want to do a straight axle up front and 14 bolt in the rear. Don't know how much longer the 10 bolt will last.
Recently picked up a 97 Suburban and about to begin the build. Four inch lift, off road bumpers, lights, winch, roof rack, Raptor coating, and eventually a snorkel for dust mitigation.
I had mine rebuilt too. Also watch them brake lines that will be next it 1392.00 to do a complete brake job not replacing the master cylinder. And fuel lines is going to be my next project to do their rusty but holding up so far. Had 6 valve seals replaced and heads cleaned and shaved. New air ride shocks and air compressor and dryer. New alt new oil pump new water pump new ac compressor but cheaper than buying a new one and i know what i got i only gave 2300.00 dollars for it probbaly got 7000.00 in it and love the ride
I don't have the Suburban, but my family of 6 is camping out of a 4wd Ford Expedition. I already have the leveling kit purchased and the tires that were on it when we bought it are getting close to being replaced. I'm not planning on doing any rock crawling, but for trekking a little further into the North GA mountains, I think I have a decent plan. Looking forward to more of your videos.
Thanks for watching. We are shooting another this month. I also do corvette stuff, so dont be alarmed by the mix...lol. 4wd/offroad and Corvette stuff is about 50/50
Definitely need to give a comment on your camera abilities and narrative. You had a great balance of both. Also great short drone use. I am looking for something like this for my next overland rig. Thank you for the video
Thanks for that. I work hard on these babies...lol! Real unfortunate what's been happening, because I had BIG plans for Corvette content this year but...SEMA, Laguna Seca/IMSA, shows...all been shut down...it's really unfortunate. I want to make a real epic C5 video though...working on it ahead.
We did this trail last month with the kids. We are fully stock at the moment. (Big goals) In the area with a ton of kids too if ya wanna get the suburbans out, hit us up!!
I have a 97 suburban with a RC 6" lift. I also live in new england. The trails here can be extremely difficult and rocks get slippery as hell, also the trails are TIGHT for this size wheel base. My favorite thing to do is wait for a super heavy snow fall and take this thing to the trails. Last time I was upto my frame in snow even with the lift. Drove through it like a dream. Also hate when the plows block my driveway in and it can be upwards of almost 3' or a little higher. Ill admit sometimes im too lazy to shovel through it to get in so i hit the bank with a little speed in 4 low and my truck just plows through it no problem. The burbans are pretty damn capable offroad. Mine i actually bought off my father in AZ. Did a motor swap and drove all the way back to massachusetts. He had 3, offroads all the time especially on elk hunts out by the grand canyon. Never had an issue. I will say, like any IFS front end, make sure he has inner and outer tie rods on hand at all times also new U joints and maybe a spare CV axle. It will save him on the trails eventually.
Yeah, at altitude is where that 5.3 or 6.0 makes a difference vs the V6 suv's and smaller displacement trucks on the market. It's where my Pathfinder really struggles vs that suburban. There is always room for more torque and power, but overall, it does really well.
A 3” lift with new beefy upper control arms ko2/3 tires. You should be able to go anywhere. The brakes can be swapped with the 2500 chassis brakes relatively easily for more bite. The control arms/ball joints are the weakest link in ifs and doing off-road stuff. Also tie rods are notoriously weak. Always good to upgrade to sturdier axles for front end as well. I dig the rig!
I think he just did the brake upgrade actually. Right now he is swappin his rear end...the eaton g80 went out finally but it was goin since he bought it. No one changed fluid and off roading killed it. He got a complete axle cheap though and is putting it in. I'll reference him to this comment. He'll appreciate the info
-- Have a 2004 Tahoe Z71. Live in Chicago, family in MN and MI. I-94 is pretty much my stomping ground. I love watching these sorts of videos. I've set my Tahoe so much differently than these Overland vehicles. No wrong way to do things, it's just I"m trying to tank the winters up here.
I just added a 2002 Tahoe Z71 to the channel...videos coming ahead. Youll see both trucks here now. The Tahoe is lifted with a lca drop kit, 35's, did a full lighting change, now doing off road lighting next, roof tent is on it, etc.
@@KnightDriveTV -- BFG 35's with nitrogen, extra armor below, and enough fluid film (in frame) Coroseal, CRC, RP-342, and farm equipment paint to add 100 pounds to the vehicle. The LEDs featured on the this would be great for what you do. They'll white me out in the snow. No wrong way to do things. We've got snow, not a whole lot of overland potential. Unless you count 94 on a typical winter day :) I'll look out for those vids.
Man, what a great video! Nicely done on the editing. I’ve owned Jeeps for 10 years. Most with 35s, including my JKUR. Been all over CO in them. I’ve had my soccer mom 2001 Tahoe for 12 years & this year decided to make it earn its keep 😂. 2.5” leveling kit & 33” Duratracs. Been camping in it all year & love it. Will prob build it more over the winter. What a sleeper platform. Love what he did with his ‘Burb. Curious to see what’s he done inside. Suboverland has been helpful to me too. They are in ID. Sub’d 👍🏽
Thats awesome and I appreciate the edit compliment...I work hard on my vids. Have to get the Pathfinder Lace and I use, back in action and some overland/off road vids will return as well. I am networking with some full size overlanders. Not sure on Joshs plan with the inside just yet...have to wait and see. I know on the Pathfinder, I have an aggressive interior plan...lol.
Sounds like a great build! How does the Tahoe do off-road, have you taken it through similar stuff in Colorado that you would your JK? I live in New England, currently have a 13 4Runner, but I really want something full-size with a V8. Little 4 liter in the Toyota just isn't cutting it. Been a fan of the 800 series Tahoes for a long time, I'm kind of itching to get one of those.
Well shoot, how about that! Its got compromises but..a lot of capability there to work with. Try to get the Z71 so you get the eaton rear locker. Not the end of the world without, but the z71 does package some beneficial options when buying used. Hope it goes well for ya!
@@KnightDriveTV Hey thanks for the reply! What's all included in the Z71? Skid plates and beefy shocks, and that rear locker? I'm looking at a big block 2500 that my buddy has. How did the leveling kit install go? Thanks again for the vid, I had some concerns about 4L, but dang those things seem to be more than capable.
I've got a 2001 K2500 big block 8.1 Suburban with the LT package. It has the Z55 autoride suspension so it is able to fit 285/75/16 Cooper AT3 tires with no problem. It's no rock crawler but it gets me everywhere I need to go here in the Rocky mountains in north Idaho. With the 8.1 it is also rated to tow 12,000 pounds and has done that many times (and over 12k several times as well). It really is a great combination for off road and overlanding.
And after watching had to comment ! Great video loved the drone footage. I am now a subscriber. I own a 2003 Z71 Tahoe building it as a family go anywhere vehicle I choose it because I hate imports so Toyota was not a option and never been a fan of jeeps barbie drive's a jeep. Also always being a die hard GM fan it made perfect sense i got my Tahoe I little over 2 years ago planning on 6.0 her and solid axle swapping excited to find a full size build on the tube cant wait for more Burban videos.
Lots more dronage ahead. I have gopro9 mounted on the high speed one now, so going to get some footage up in the mountains here soon...should be sick. That drone footage in this was my 3" low speed...was struggling in wind that day.
@@KnightDriveTV nice! I just replaced the water pump and thermostat, serpentine belt, plugs, dizzy and of course an oil change. Also torsion twisted for my end, ended up getting the bfg at's I think 29" on 16s, still need to level back end I don't want the invisible tow look..
It isn't just the z71 that has the locker. Usually a factory tow package had the g80 and sometimes lower gearing. My Tahoe for instance has factory 4.10 gears and a g80 locker. The heavy duty towing package included a bigger transmission cooler as well. Always check the glove box for the rpo codes.
Yeah, I think he'd have been a little happier with a 6". He makes do off road though, fairly well. Thanks for watching! May do an update in December. He has made some changes.
I ended up finding this because I was looking for info on using my Suburban for overlanding. I’ve used my Sub for light off-road driving and car camping but thinking about going a bit further with the idea. Looks like some tight trails there; impressed with the capability shown. Thanks.
Great video! I've been really getting into watching Suburban stuff lately, and it's great seeing one on a challenging Trail. I have a 5th gen 4Runner, which would probably be way better on stuff like this, but for some reason I just really want to ditch it and get a Burb. Maybe a Tahoe would be better, since I'm single with a dog and maybe don't need seats for 8 people, haha. I like my 4Runner, but I'm just not a Toyota guy I guess. The longer I own it, the more frustrated I get with the underpowered drivetrain. I recently added stock sized aggressive all-terrains to it, and it definitely degraded performance and fuel mileage. Very frustrating considering I stuck to a standard load, stock size tire just to avoid that. All these guys that lift these up with big tires and throw roof top tents and all that gear on them, I don't know how they can tolerate it.
I hear this from a lot of 4runner owners honestly. The Tahoe is hard to beat as its pretty similar sized to the 4runner and just has an abundance of power. I'd struggle to justify new toyota 4runner prices honestly....too underpowered for the size.
I got a small taste of off-road with my 2007 Suburban 2500 when I took my family and travel trailer to “The Wall” at The Badlands last summer. That whole trip out of the mostly flat land of woods and farmland that is Wisconsin made me want more. The tow pig has to primarily tow, and that cannot be compromised, but once the trailer is parked, I want to be able to grab the recovery gear, air down and go explore. She needs to remain mostly stock, as safe interstate towing at the GVWR is at odds with most off-road mods, and I do not want to add more weight. I have it leveled, decent tires, and the stock G80 locker in the back.
I really dont think you need much more honestly. If you can get a larger load rated tire on there, that gets you some height as well, and from there is mostly about just airing down to 20psi or so, getting a small arb compressor or similar and getting it done. Suburbans are mega capable we've learned.
I have 2 and I am overlanding my 96 burb. I did put 33" wild peaks and not going to do a big lift maybe about a 3" but she is doing very well. My other is a 05 z71 that I will do some few things to for me and my family. My 96 is my toy. 😀. Your right on not many ppl overlanding burbs. Look at JonDZ on youtube and one of his recent videos at hungry valley has my green 96 on it. Take care guys
Well, just recently talking to Josh, who owns this Suburban...he has been all through the vegas mountains, countless trails and like he points out, he has yet to get stuck and has tried pretty hard to do so. I think people tend to drastically overbuild for some theoretical trail challenge. I think you have to drive within the limits and slowly test more and more, the capability and I think people will find you can do a hell of a lot with a mildly modded truck.
Oh dang! I love my Suboverland but it will be my home and I don't think I'll be taking it on such sketchy trails. Lol. Nice to see it could handle it, though. 👍
Most budget stuff is going to be on amazon and just really read through reviews. All the chinese lighting has its quirks in terms of weatherproofing. Paying 10x-15x more for Rigid over china though...it's a very tough ask because the product is nowhere near 10x-15x better...maybe 1.5x better at most. We have run a lot of chinese lighting and it's plenty adequate in the pitch black desert.
I bought a 2003 in 2007 with 60k miles on it. Turned it into an overlander and have put over 140k additional miles on it. It's been a great platform. The only downside is, if you offroad a lot, you'll need to rebuild the front end every year, or every other year depending on the terrain you cover and how many miles you put on it off-raod.
His suburban has seen some heavy use. There is also a 2002 Tahoe added to the channel also, so thatll be shown shortly. The Tahoe is on 35's with a drop kit which I can say, I dont love. Looking to do coilovers and find the setup I like. Video coming as well as products for these trucks the channel will develop exclusively!
When you say rebuild the front end what do you mean exactly? and is your's the z71 with torsion bars? I have a 02 z71 and have offroaded with it. and used it for daily driving towing etc. I love my burb!! but curious what you mean exactly and if torsion bar suspension applies to what you said.
This guy mentioned the he got the Z71 because of the rear locker but I dont think that was standard on the Z71 package? Was it an add-on that was added by GM, or is it after market?
Indeed, it was not standard on Z71 before 2004, but actually still a stand alone option. Easy identifiers in the RPO code and/or the fact that it immediately got sideways on oily wet pavement when test driving it and his is an 04.
That's what I like to hear! I have another burb video coming in about a week...keep an eye out. I'll be putting some major custom built drone footage with the gopro9 on 5k...should be sick.
Im a single guy with a 170k mile 05 Z71 Tahoe that's super sweet, getting it where I want it....BUT I recently went camping with my sister's and her bf so 5 of us and all the gear was a TIIIIIIGHT fit... Wondering if I need a suburban now.... Wondering if it's worth the hassle for trading my one owner truck out .... Found a burban with 77k miles but doubt I can sell mine and get it in time without being sold underneath me, lots of risk there Also I feel like the Tahoe is kinda worth the trade off because I feel like it's more capable off-road due the the fact of just shorter wheel base... No hi centering as much could be a make or break stuck in middle of no where ?
Josh and I really go back and forth on which is better off-road. All things considered, the Suburban's wheelbase isn't that long. Compared to a Wrangler or something, sure but....the suburban shows some weird advantages vs my Tahoe at times...it's kind of interesting. We're going to do a video on it soon.
Any modifications to the differentials / 4wd system? Got a 09 Tahoe that I didn't think would be good for such things, but looks like it might could get the job done.
No mods to the drivetrain...the g80 rear locker is plenty capable and for an IFS system, its stout in terms of axles and strength overall. He has done some pretty tough trails for what it is and had great results
Yes, they are E load range. We generally go down to 18 or so. With the rocks and sideloads, we just dont want to risk popping a bead if we can avoid it. 18 leaves a good level of "emergency" air down if we get really stuck but keeps you with a margin of safety. We air up with just some small pumps that connect direct to the battery, not the weak little cig lighter ones. Generally takes about 10min to air back up all 4. Thanks for watching...more off road and Corvette stuff comin ahead!
Haha...the desert pink could be next level. Thanks for watching. Tried to give folks a good look at some Las Vegas trails and get a big Burby out there...lol.
We did a lot 2wd stuff 2yrs ago. With another vehicle and some recovery stuff, you can do a lot with 2wd, but the open diff in the rear, means one wheel will get you stuck. You need traction boards and I wouldnt push much alone. With someone else to snatch strap you out I think you could do a reasonable amount though. Clearly its not ideal
4hi for a lot and then 4lo for steep climb/descent areas and where control is needed. At this stage we mostly stay 4lo but of its more opened overland stuff I go 4hi. They dont quite have the torque needed to do some climbing and descending really needs control so...its situational really but...my Tahoe is stock gear on 35's so its mostly 4lo always
Definitely needs those things for sure. Not sure what he'll do from here though. Possibly interior mods or something. I'll update in the future, if the build evolves further. Thanks so much for watching! More to come in the off road series of videos on this channel.
I have a 02 burb z71 with a very similar setup bilstien 5100 shocks moog springs in the rear. I am going to replace torsion bars and upgrade the keys i consider this still stock. it is cool what you can do with the vehicle in stock or near stock format. once mods are added they become amazing beast's ! I used TOYO open countries for a while they were good at first but didn't wear well. ran Bfgoodrich AT KO2's they wear way better, they are much quieter than the toyo's I really like them. they don't self clean well in the mud, but in the snow that is a big advantage... I have wild peaks on my toyota matrix xr awd and i really like them on that vehicle! I am currently replacing the 5.3 with a built 6.0 and planning to do at least a 6 inch lift. I changed the gear oil in the rear diff and it no longer locks. GM finally is aware of this problem but you MUST use gm oil with NO friction modifier!!! everything I found at part stores lucas, royal purpal etc has some kind of modifier. Hope this saves someone from destroying their locker like i did. I want to replace the rear diff with a e locker or something different than the G80 that is in it now. any Idea's or suggestions? not opposed to changing the whole rear axle I just don't know what would work best on the burb. one day I may even change the front transfer case and front diff to something better... has anyone seen or have experience with good setup's?
I have a Z71 05' suburban and after watching this video made me realize that I haven't been using it to its full potential. Love my truck tho and wouldn't trade it in for anything. Im going to keep it till the engine gives out and the wheels fall off and then replacing the engine and wheels with new ones.
Engines are cheap for these trucks as well. Easy to keep it long term and drive it affordably. Glad the vid gave you a little room of confidence to see it can get some things done. They're pretty capable, relatively speaking.
Sequioas are very nice...I have actually been looking for one myself. Only issue with Sequioa for me, is I like the GM engine architecture and parts availability. No question Suburbans easier and cheaper to fix vs Sequioa but I love 1st gen Sequioa exterior...like a big 4runner. Theyre both nice in their own way and you see both with 300k miles all the time.
They are both specifically built vehicles. Just like you wouldn't drive the Suburban up gatekeeper you wouldn't cram a family of eight in a wrangler for a weekend of camping.
Nice rig. I’m currently building a 2wd 2015 suburban for over-landing and camping with 33 bfg ko2 and I’m considering running a 4 inch BDS if the budget works out. Any advice on overlanding with a 2wd since I saw you used to have the van. Any info would be greatly appreciated
Get some cheap traction boards and a harbor freight compressor for 60 bucks. Air down is key, and good self recovery gear. Lastly, if you can put a z71 eaton locker in, or full aftermarket, it goes a long way.
KnightDriveTV thank you for the advice, I greatly appreciate it. I’ll definitely look into getting traction boards and a good air compressor. I have a g80 auto electronic locker in the rear so I guess with some basic recovery equipment and a buddy, it should be a fun time.
Well, this is a factor that I encourage all people to look into. I see it in the Corvette world as well...the "wider is better"...which is generally true, but there are limits to where you begin to take pressure off the contact patch, per square inch and a wider tire equals a loss of grip, and a loss of braking performance (more rotational mass). Think of a train...slick metal wheels, slick metal rails, but lots of traction because of the small contact area and heavy weight. In drag racing, you'll see this decision factor of putting more rubber to the pavement, but not having too much. On another angle, in this scenario, there is that of rubbing and full compression and steering lock, once you go wider. In his research, I believe he felt that with the lift gain he was expecting that sticking with a narrower tire would reduce rubbing on the inner wells and provide more contact patch pressure. Lastly...Josh is a cheapskate so...less tire = less money to spend...lol. Truly though, the money I don't think was as much a factor as the other issues I mentioned, that led to his sizing decision.
Gonna do it! More in edit as we speak. Some corvette content will apply to suburban and gm platform...doing a mix of things here. Thanks a lot for watching, I appreciate it!
Yeah, definitely more recovery gear the better. One upside for us local Vegas off roaders is there is a recovery group. Anywhere you get stuck or stranded, big team of people come free and getcha! Its a big community thing because we have so many trails and off road areas. We have a safety layer for sure in those instances.
This Chevrolet Suburban is perfect but the thing I don’t like about this Z71 is that it doesn’t come with the barn doors option which is a rare option on the Z71 and I feel like Chevrolet could’ve made more Z71s with barn doors
Yeah, the target was the 5.3, because I have HPTuner and the LS architecture is just preferred imo. The 8.1's aren't necessarily bad engines, but theyre guzzlers and the 5.3 reliability and aftermarket just makes it more desirable. I'd supercharge the 5.3 before I got an 8.1...just my personal take. His truck lacked no power on the trails though. Good luck with the build...theyre nice platforms.
Well, as he mentioned, he was going to run both in there..lol. Having the one, the vehicle seems to manage ok. This is why I encouraged him to remove the bowtie emblem, like you see partially done in the video. The idea would be the Camaro ZL1 1LE approach with the flowtie. I am going to design a venturi to insert into the bowtie, which supplements some of the lost frontal area with the light. He will still be at a deficit though. Rad mist sprayer was discussed also...sitting out in the desert on an abstacle, his temps do get up...and thats more of a fan cfm/heat rejection issue. With the evaporation we get, hitting the rad with some "swamp cooling" effect would drop those temps good. Once he is rollin though, he is stable at 190-200 with ac on. As with all mods...just kind test and run it, modify or remove if necessary, etc. We will see what he does in the future. He is still working on it.
Its somethin he can definitely look into I think. The slow crawl in desert temps gets serious. Thanks a lot for watching and the suggestion...I am sure Josh will see it at dome point.

They do seem to be trending a bit. Hoping more people start building them and getting out there. Very functional platform with some decent capability.
@@KnightDriveTV I'm interested in buying a 2002 4wd Sub.
I'm putting together an 02. Thanks for the insight. New subscriber here.
Thank you for that. We have more gmt800 content ahead for sure
As a fellow Burb owner......AAAAHHHHHHHHH I LOVE IT!!!!!! Can’t wait for what’s next!!!! GIVE IT TO ME!!!!!!
liluncje CAN’T WAIT!!!
Owner of 03 Chevrolet Suburban 4x4 love it.
I think most are mall crawlers! haha
I am pretty sure youre right...lol. They love drivin over those local curbs to make that right on red.
Check out willimette fabrication's suburban. It keeps right up with the jeeps.

Being a family of 6, we know all about needing space.... We have a Yukon XL that we use as our base camp. Outfitted with a RTT, awning, and kitchen in the back.... It flat tows our JKU Rubicon that I have custom built in a 3rd row seat for the trail adventures!
Thats the setup right there, sounds real nice!
Man. I am on my third suburban and creating a overland has been my dream.
Do it. Nows the time!
Hey guys, new here, nice video. My 97 suburban 1 of the toughest trucks out there!
Thats pretty awesome..lol. Glad you liked it! Thanks for watchin!
6in suspention lift 4in body lift on 35's supercharged front sway delete. Love my burban
Got a Chevy 2012 3500 4 door long bed that I am setting up to do over landing with , thanks for the info and love watching it
Recently picked up a 97 Suburban and about to begin the build. Four inch lift, off road bumpers, lights, winch, roof rack, Raptor coating, and eventually a snorkel for dust mitigation.
Nice...sounds like a solid build to get out there!
just bought an 05 yukon xl 2500 with 120k on it with pretty much the same options as your burb. Can't wait til it comes back from the trans shop
We are in a Chevy Astro with the rear locker and we love it for off-roading
A rear locker astro? Nice
@@KnightDriveTV oh yes the g80 rear locker all-wheel drive, with all terrain tires, rancho 9000 shocks that, front limited-slip!! Very capable
We have some updated videos on the channel, as this suburban evolved quite a bit. Hummer H2 also coming to the channel and is being built now.
Beautiful video, good info.
Thanks for that. I work hard on these babies...lol! Real unfortunate what's been happening, because I had BIG plans for Corvette content this year but...SEMA, Laguna Seca/IMSA, shows...all been shut down...it's really unfortunate. I want to make a real epic C5 video though...working on it ahead.
let me know if you find any good ones
Nice Rig ! Love the light bar on the Grill would love to add one to my 04 Z71 overlandRig
It will save him on the trails eventually.
yeah, he is planning on some back up parts for sure. Definitely a capable vehicle for sure...
I own a 1999 2500 7.4 L, I’ve only towed my trailer with it so far. We took it up to 9,500 feet in early April. So far so good.
Great video
What a fantastic guy.
Haha...he'll love that ya said that...lol.
Amazing video, and love the 800 Burban..❤❤❤ I have a 2003 2500 now, and that’s my second one, and one 400.
We have an H2 build coming to the channel next. Lots of content ahead
I love all my burbs they've been very reliable great video
Thanks for watching! Worked hard on it.
I know this is an older video but the information is helping me decide on build options for my new to me 2001 GMC Yukon XL.
Some new stuff comin shortly
I was on the fence about buying a camping burb. You just convinced me to go for it. I cannot wait to get mine dirty!
I run a 2001 K2500 Suburban with the 8.1 and 4L80E transmission. I went with the 3/4 ton for the extra beef of the drive train.
Yeah, I can see that option being desirable. I just like LS's...so we stuck in that corridor for modding and gas mileage...lol
For sure...thats a great beast to own. We have updated videos on the suburban shown here, much more recently
I just picked up an 02 I'm interested to take it out on some level 1 trails, cool to see some locals.
Hell yeah...new Tahoe on the channel...vid comin next day or two
@@KnightDriveTV nice!
I have one it works great for overlanding, I have a 6 inch lift that was the best deal I have done running 33's
Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed the video! We posted another since this one was shot. Sketchy downhill descent...Josh was mega scared..
@@KnightDriveTV saw that too. Pretty good spotting.
I love it, brining out the 91/30 mosin for a blast!
You know it!
Love my yukon price and value is amazing, easy to work on, parts are cheap, and jt just feels right.
I have a 01 Sub. that I love. I hope to do something to it . Thank you for this video.
Many more on the channel, as we evolved both the Suburban and Tahoe. Check them out.
Great video
Thank you for that...we are working on another suburban vid ahead
Very true. Mine is stock with33s. Love it
Oh dang! I love my Suboverland but it will be my home and I don't think I'll be taking it on such sketchy trails. Lol. Nice to see it could handle it, though. 👍
That was what I wanted the vid to show...what it can do, if need be.
Awesome. Thanks for sharing. Suboverland is in Twin Falls, Idaho, btw.
I’ve got a Suboverland as well! #60
@@BYLRPhil #78 here!
possible to link the light bars and roof basket im looking but im new i wanna know decent fair priced light bars and stuff

Nahp...she's still rollin. Gettin a new rear locker this weekend actually. No tire problems...aired down to 20, they flex good.
@@KnightDriveTV But the sidewall is detroyed..
About 15 seconds into video already had to hit the like button!
Found a burban with 77k miles but doubt I can sell mine and get it in time without being sold underneath me, lots of risk there
Also I feel like the Tahoe is kinda worth the trade off because I feel like it's more capable off-road due the the fact of just shorter wheel base...
I have a 2002 burban LT 1500. it has the g80 and tow package hoping to put a 3 inch lift on him see what he will do
Any modifications to the differentials / 4wd system? Got a 09 Tahoe that I didn't think would be good for such things, but looks like it might could get the job done.
No mods to the drivetrain...the g80 rear locker is plenty capable and for an IFS system, its stout in terms of axles and strength overall. He has done some pretty tough trails for what it is and had great results
I'm assuming those toyos are load range 121/E? Curious what you aired down to...? Awesome video and editing.
I think a pink burb will flip itself, lol nice vid. ps I have an 03 Tahoe.
Haha...the desert pink could be next level. Thanks for watching. Tried to give folks a good look at some Las Vegas trails and get a big Burby out there...lol.
Im glad i found this video even though its old. Im building the same z71 suburban myself. Is it still on the trail an how did it work out for him?
Yes, we are doing an update soon. Its evolved further. Check the recent Hummer H2 videos I have up, the suburban is in those videos
How do you feel a 2wd 2013 Suburban would fair?
We did a lot 2wd stuff 2yrs ago. With another vehicle and some recovery stuff, you can do a lot with 2wd, but the open diff in the rear, means one wheel will get you stuck. You need traction boards and I wouldnt push much alone. With someone else to snatch strap you out I think you could do a reasonable amount though. Clearly its not ideal
I did burro wash with my stock yukon ...ill go back soon
Nice...just gotta pick a good line...crazy how many people get wrecked on that run down to the water
I just moved to vegas and want to try this pass I got a 03 xterra with a good set tires how difficult it is?

Do he drive 4-wheel auto? Or 4hi

Wish they kept the suburban having the silverado front clip, makes it alot more like a truck, and bring back the 2500 suburban too
I have a 02 burb z71 with a very similar setup bilstien 5100 shocks moog springs in the rear.
There are definitely options...many which we will explore on the channel ahead.
I have family of 6 . I m looking between suburban and sequoia? 2010
@@KnightDriveTV thank you 🙏 but I went for the 2008 sequoia
Good job Sir,
for off-road jeep is good
for camper suburbun
I have a g80 auto electronic locker in the rear so I guess with some basic recovery equipment and a buddy, it should be a fun time.
nice rig. very curious in his choice of tires. 255 ? why not 285s ?
@@KnightDriveTV thanks a lot for the reply man. I like the video and the series. Keep em coming.
Gonna do it! More in edit as we speak. Some corvette content will apply to suburban and gm platform...doing a mix of things here. Thanks a lot for watching, I appreciate it!
I went with the same tire brand but went with the LT285/70R17 I have a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe Z71 but have been thinking of trading for a suburban
I'm looking to build a Yukon as an adventure rig.
Great platform
I have a stock 02 LT, 20" Avalanche wheels,256,000 mi. Had it for 5 years now.
Would love to get an avalanche
Seeing that you are by yourselves, you might want consider having a winch on the vehicle.
Nice option, more affordable?
Can you list your music please?
This Chevrolet Suburban is perfect but the thing I don’t like about this Z71 is that it doesn’t come with the barn doors option which is a rare option on the Z71 and I feel like Chevrolet could’ve made more Z71s with barn doors
The barn doors are a really great option. I agree that its a shame you cant find more with the option.
@@KnightDriveTV The 2002-2004 Suburban and Tahoe Z71 models had the option for barn doors.
@@apolloniaaskew9487 I actually saw a 2001 Suburban Z71
My z-71 has those doors love them
Mine is a 2001 z-71 black with barn doors just got her saw it and snapped it up
Also have the z-71 Silverado 2000 and 2 Tahoe's love them
Suboverland > twin falls Idaho.
I have an 02 Escalade on 33s.
Nice...lol
Seven thumbs down must be from ford owners.
Haters will hate!!! Up to seven now...whew...was only 2 last I checked.
Agh now 11, the ford owners are slowly rising
Do you know which motor his burb has?
Has the 5.3
Nice. I just picked up a 2001 with the 5.3 to do a similar build. Nice to see it handled this trail okay.
I just wouldn't run a lightbar in front of the radiator like that. Especially when running in those type of OATs.
I run pusher fan on my 2001 Tahoe. It helps at low speeds. I drive it into Mexico occasionally.
Great video!
Its somethin he can definitely look into I think. The slow crawl in desert temps gets serious. Thanks a lot for watching and the suggestion...I am sure Josh will see it at dome point.
What year? What year? What year? What year?
Pretty sure its an 03. He specifically wanted a 5.3liter
