      That Tahoe looks nice! I've done a leveling kit up front and a spacer in the rear for some additional clearance for articulation. Think an add a leaf would do the same. Also maybe a 2 inch body lift too. For me It's a lot of fun having additional space for the family. My primary wheeling rig is an 86 Suzuki Samurai in which the family may have trouble fitting in.

    I think I mentioned this last video. But ball joints and steering links are a must. The steering links can bend while driving straight. At 15:08 when you gas it and you see the tire steering angle jump in and out, that is what will bend the steering links. And that may have been caused by worn steering and/or ball joints. But it looks really good with those tires, and the chrome pieces removed.

    • @AutoEdits
      @AutoEdits  3 роки тому +1

      All of the steering is worn so much on this thing... I can move the tires with my hand at least a couple of inches left and right. I've been looking at a couple of different options for arms and someone here mentioned the redhead steering box so I'll keep looking.

    I'm curious if you had your torsion bars torqued up prior, or were they set at factory height? I'm doing the 2" to 3" lift on my 2002 with the newer torsion bar keys. That should take care of any fender rub (I'm hoping). lol Mine is a Z71 with 4.10 gears, which seems to be plenty, since it's more on road than off. I'm also curious about tread wear on these tires. Generally, my luck with off road tires, is that the tread wears fast with lots of highway speed driving. Some I've owned barely lasted 3,000 miles.

    • @AutoEdits
      @AutoEdits  3 роки тому

      I have no idea about the torsion bars being adjusted before I owned the vehicle. I have over 20,000 hard miles on my Patagonia MT tires on my Jeep. If you're going through tires that fast, I'd check alignment settings ASAP.

    • @newmexicojoe5443
      @newmexicojoe5443 3 роки тому

      @@AutoEdits Yeah, they wore evenly, just as bad at the rear. So alignment isn't an issue, just 75mph on the interstate. Possibly softer compound versus the heat of extra speed.
      So, likely, you could get another inch or so of height in the front by cranking them in. Cool.

    I have a GMT-400 Suburban and the upgrade I'm most pleased with is the full Powerstop Z36 brake kit with the powder coated calipers.
    The stock brakes are a weak point on this platform and the Powerstop brakes are amazing. And they're cheaper than OEM brakes from the dealer.
    You'll want Part No. KC1970-36
    I replaced all my front end parts with HD Moog or GM parts.
    In my case I got TA K02's for what you paid for those milestars.
    I also have an HT-383E engine swap with JB headers and Magnaflow header back exhaust with performance cats plus a performance tune.
    Love this platform. Amazing truck in all weather. Easy and inexpensive to work on. Drives great in town and on the highway.

      Stock size tire is roughly 29” tall for 2wd. I’ve fit 31s with no modifications on stock wheels. I put a rough country lift spindle and did the same bumper cutting and fender massaging as seen in this video to fit ~33s (295/75r16) on (16x8” -12 offset) aftermarket wheels. With stock wheels I think you’d be good for 33s with stock suspension as long as your coil springs aren’t worn out.

Just don't go too far off the trail for a while, those big tires will expose the weakness in the drivetrain. Which is a good thing if you want to turn that into an off-roader, since you can fix them and get the truck squared away and reliable for longer trips. I've had my '00 Tahoe ('99 model year) since new. I've been considering making it weekend rig. This is exactly where I want to start - a new front bumper is needed anyway ! It is Z71 and had a dealer installed cattle guard - which they started the rust from their installation or hardware choice? anyway the rest of the truck deserves this refresh! thanks for posting

      @AutoEdits it's just a trim package that mine has. It is not the newer body style, it's a '99 that was sold as '00. Chevrolet just added options and sold them for a discount because they still had some leftovers... and they also had the newer body style for sale at the same time. I have body color wheel trim that I will need to remove to see if the 35" tires will fit, - because the opening is too small as it sits.

    Also, you want kryptonite tierods and if sticking with stock control arms and such just use Moog parts for the rest. If you put towing air bags in the back you can get rid of the bump stops for better ride quality and adjustable lift lol. Mine had them and it would raise 3" or so from empty bag to 50psi

    I relate to this video so much. I have a 2wd Dodge Ram 1500 6speed manual regular cab short bed. I installed 4.10 gears and have a Detroit locker in the stock Chrysler 9.25 rear axle. It goes off road no problem on my 33” BFG KM3s. I have a new 4x4 but I’m not taking it hardcore off-roading because I don’t want to scratch it lol. My 2wd can go all the places I need it to being in south Florida and a trail like what you’re on in this video is perfect and I agree I could do that all day too just riding with the windows down and soaking it all in 😎
