Killer job by John Mayer. But it could not have been done without Pino slapping the bass and Steve Jordan playing heaven on the drums to complete the trio sound. One of my favorites!
I don't see where Pino was slapping at all. All, but once he was shown playing palm mute and once he was playing figure style. I didn't hear any slapping and slap wouldn't fit the type of song or the bass he was playing.
For non musicians out there listening to this, he's an absolute beast to be able to sing and play like that simultaneously! Just in case, you know, it wasn't obvious.

His phrases and timing are horrible from a guitarist perspective. Mayer wouldn't be considered a good guitarist if he couldn't sing. If he couldn't sing no one would know who was. I'm glad people can enjoy it either way.

John Mayer Trio has been around for over ten years. They made a live album together in 2005.
And good thing is they're working together again for the album that's dropping next year. Blues vibes gonna be back and aren't we glad for it

The solo (1:27 - 3:08) is one of the best live expressive solos ever - a rich library of licks to adapt. Great tone as well.
