Oh great! It's nice to get comments like this. I'm glad to hear that it's working well for you. I'm sure I could buy something better but it is kind of cool to use gear that you make your self.
Nice flight. Love seeing new locations. Do you do anything special to connect to satellites on your first flight? Sometimes I find myself waiting 20 minutes to get 8 sats. I have to unplug my battery 2 times and let the FC cool down as I get the overheat warnings while waiting. I seem to recall seeing you had something plugged in to your quad to get sats. Was it just a spare battery?
I use the SpeedyBee Adapter 3 to power the FC and GPS for finding sats. All it needs is 5v no need for the flight battery. Only catch is that the FC needs to have a 4v5 pad for GPS that is powered by the USB. It's also easier to get sats with no VTX powered up.
crazy flight!!! my distance record over a field is just a bit more than 4 km but only with a nano crossfire and an emortal t antenna in the back and the tx on 1W power. For the video signal I had a rush tank II set to 800mw. and the stock receiver in the fatshark attitude v5 with a really cheap patch antenna haha
oh, 4k is pretty good. Ya it's surprising how far you can go without any really special gear. It's all about open space so nothing gets between you and the drone.
Wow! I've been getting into fpv and trying to figure what genre intrigues me most since it is all so exciting but I can only afford so much gear. I think this is it for me! I've just gotten started on your helical antenna design and should have that running soon. 2 questions Have you ever lost a drone super far out? And what camera are you using for the HD video?
Glad to hear about your interest. Twice I've lost one about 1 or 2 km out. One the battery ran out the other was getting behind a ridge and losing video then my GPS rescue didn't work for some reason, not sure why.
Do you have a video of the kind of GoPro settings you use when you fly like this? Your videos look spectacular. I came across your channel recently and you earned yourself a subscriber sir.
I use tri-blades because I find them smoother. Many 7" quads do have jello issues. At 7" props spin much slower than a 5" so the vibrations are a lower frequency. The lower the frequency the more likely it is to interfere with HD footage in the form of jello. With tri-blades and my super stiff frames jello isn't really an issue at all for me.
Love these videos. I am wondering if it’s possible to go further without moving up to 7”. I appreciate that 7” is important for efficiently carrying a full size gopro, but this isn’t a concern. I’ve done a 17km flight with a 4” quad and 4S Lion and am convinced that 20km is possible with a lighter setup. So 4-5” gives maximum range with 1p 18650s, do you think would 6” give me maximum range with 1p 21700s?
Yes I think 6" with 6s1p 21700 is probably a good match. It it's a really light build it might even be better with 5s1p 21700 to keep the weight down. Without a GoPro it should still be a decent weight to fly with, even with a GoPro should fly alright. I started long range with 2508 1200kv, gemfan 5055 props and 6s1p 21700, I was still getting about 14km with a GoPro. (I did over 20km with my 4" flywoo explorer, never more than 2km away though, it's video was sketchy)
@@FalconRadFPV Thanks, I only just saw your reply - appreciated. I'm currently buiding an AOS LR5 which should manage decent range on 4s 18650 while maintaining flight performance. I do wonder how well it would accomodate 21700 4s1p and whether it would cruise much further than 18650. Tricky to get GPS outboard without blocking the props somewhat unfortunately - it's frustrating how the LR5 design leaves GPS mount design as an exercise for the reader.
I have really been curious. When doing long range like this, is it smarter to use a patch and helical? I don’t have 2 helical, but I have plenty of patches. I’m curious what’s the smarter setup…. VAS crosshair extreme array, helical with patch, or standard Omni with patch or helical? I’m running TBS Fusion on my Dom v3 Fat Sharks
I'm not sure if the fusion module has the signal combining thing like rapidfire, but that's what I use and it works best with two identical antennas pointed the same direction. With standard diversity swapping to whichever signal is best it might be good to have a wide coverage patch antenna and then a focused high gain one like a crosshair, X2-Air or helical. Avoid using an omni when flying long range, it won't help you much past about 2km out. (Unless you want to fly behind yourself during the same flight)
@@FalconRadFPV nice thanks for the advice, I haven’t pushed more than 2k just yet…. Not quite confident yet. However, I do own the crosshair extreme dual patch array, The OG LZR SpiroNet array, one 3turn Helical, my menace invader patch, and a couple other patches. I’ll start experimenting! Is the Singularity your go to? How do u feel about the matchstick? I do live TrueRC!! Go Canada!!
Do you have a video where you show this drone being built. I'm planning on 'attempting' to build it once I gather all the parts. It is an awesome drone!
Thanks for your fast response! It will be my first build but I do have experience soldering and I think I will figure it out with a little help. It will be a little while before I get all the components. I did send off for the T-Motor F7 Pro flight controller so I will research this. I downloaded Betaflight already and will get some stuff done. I hope to have mine soaring before the end of the year! Love your videos and I will watch them and read the comments where I also learn a lot as well. I will start watching the build video RIGHT NOW @@FalconRadFPV
Nice one! The Location is so beautiful. Is there a reason to Fly with 1W Crossfire? I have set mine to 250mW Dynamic and never have seen more that 100mW on 6km away. Sure more output power means better penetration but is there another reason for you?
Thank you very much. That's a great question, they are both drones right. This one is FPV so its flown with a camera view as if you were sitting in the cockpit so to speak. A DJI drone doesn't have quite the same control use, and doesn't work well for FPV type flying, they are amazing at staying in one place and getting a stable crisp shot though. But flying in such a dynamic way and flowing over the top of the environment is more difficult with a DJI style drone. They have the range and could get great videos of the same spots they just couldn't flow over the surface in the same way while flying.
Great Video! Maybe I missed it, but how mamy mAh's do your 2 batterys have combined? Guessing by voltage, around 6000mAh? So your max range might be very roughly around 18km, right?
Almost perfect guss! Ya about 18km with 6s2p 18650, 5600 mah. I use 2800 mah cells rated for 35 amps. More with 21700 cells but it's heavy and doesn't fly as nice as with the 18650's. Some people prefer going with 6s1p 21700 and 4000mah packs, its a bit more mah per gram and a bit lighter than 6s2p 18650.
Thanks! I really want to built an small, nimble fpv drone in my next holidays, having previously built a 10" hexacopter (which flies like a brick lol). Sadly flying long range in Europe is really complicated (lots of expensive radio and pilot licenses) or even impossible (strict line of sight safety laws).
@@FalconRadFPV hi FalconRad, brilliant flight in a phantastic scenery 🏆🫶!! My experience with my 7‘‘ is that a single 4.000 mAh 6S Li-Ion pack with 21700 cells becomes too hot. I use two of them in parallel. Always safe return for you 😎✊ and thanks for sharing this wonderful video 👍
how high can you fly with your drone. I mean, if you start at 4000m above sealevel for example. Does it make any difference when starting at 6000m how high you can go (without battery capacity in this calculation)?
Hi, I want to build a new 7" for longrange and filming cars. Basically just as light as possible while still having good resonance characteristics. May I know the minimum angle without props in view on your radlion? Or even the motor layout?? Either I'm designing my own frame with some additional features I have in mind or I'll get yours
The RAD Li-ion has a bit of prop[s ion view until is is run through reelsteady, then usual they are cropped out. For filming cars I would suggest the falcon 7. No props in view, stabilized or not. Also its prop layout lets you literally (I have done this a few times) scrap the front of the FPV camera mount on the pavement while flying. It could get some great shots of cars with the FPV cam at 28 or 30 degrees and the GoPro at 20 or 25. You could be scraping the ground chasing a car and still get the whole car in view I think. Doing it a bunch would need a custom print to protect the front mounted antenna though as that's what actually makes contact.
So awesome bro. I wish I could get some decent goggles to do this type of flying. I seriously love just exploring with the cinewhoop and the 7" but I just don't have the range with cheap box goggles lmao. Iv been trying to find someone upgrading so I can buy the old ones lol 😆 maybe one day.
With good antennas (or my own diy helical ones) I've made it over 5km out using eachine ev800d goggles. It's about antennas and the placement, many cheap goggles can get some good range if you put some work into testing antennas and positioning.
@FalconRadFPV awesome I'd love to try a helical one day. I got a 3d printer now so I was wanting to make one but just don't have the time with 2 jobs and supporting the wife that can't work right now. I might need to try some new Antenna's though. I wouldn't think they would have went bad because I only used those on my goggles and take good care of them
How many MAH and weight was the battery you use? Do you only use lions or have tried some lipos too on this 7 inch? I purchased a 7 inch geprcmoz7 and i am looking at videos to get some more information if a 8000mah lion is overkill/too heavy
Almost all of my long range flights are done using 6s2p with 2800mAh li-ion 18650 batteries. So 5600mAh total at 6s voltage. And the 6s2p battery is about 650 grams. 6s2p with 21700 is more like 900 grams. A 7" will fly with either kind but it flys better with the lighter 18650 cells. Depends how far you want to fly, most of the time my 18650 packs are enough to get me up a mountain and back so I only use the heavy 21700 packs when I really need the extra flight time. But the drone is noticeably less agile with the 21700 packs on.
@@FalconRadFPV ok thankyou. Maybe I will buy 6000mah 6s2p lion instead from ifly/full send. It is difficult to find big batteries here in Europe since I moved here >
Couple of noob questions 1) why does voltage start at 4? Is it just averaging the per Cell voltage? 2) At your furthest distance the video starts to break up a little but i think bars are all full. Why is it breaking up when the signal is so strong?
Yes avg voltage per cell. With li-ion it drops down a bit at the start. There weren't any signal bars in the OSD for video strength. The video strength will fluctuate a bit as I move my head since the antennas are mounted to the goggles on my head.
Where are you? I've been subscribed and watching a lot of your vids, but this one came out amazing. I would love to build a long-range quad and do something like this one day.
I'm on the west coast of canada. Well if you ever do build one, I've got a couple of in depth build videos under my quads and gear playlist that might help.
Do I understand correctly, that if i buy all the parts from the description that i will be able to assemble the same drone that was used for the video? What kind of battery do you suggest? What kindle of goggles are better?
Check out the quads and gear playlist on my UA-cam page. There are videos that go into detail about the parts as well as an in depth build video with every step. There are also video about li-ion batteries as well. I usually use 2 x 6s 18650 batteries @ 2800 mah each. The quad I make in the build video is the exact same one that I used for this video as well as many of my other ones. There is also va video video in that list about my goggles and video setup as well as for my transmitter and RX.
I'm still using crossfire. I have heard that ELRS has some improvements over crossfire but I don't see a point in buying all new RX's when crossfire has worked flawlessly for me for years. Also I don't like having to figure out which companies ELRS stuff works the best. With crossfire it's all quality gear from TBS, no guessing which one is better or under performing.
Hey man, does this setup work with a HD instead of analogue and are there any component upgrades that can be made to further increase range, speed, or battery life?
This frame fits the smaller vista size HD units, but not the big dji air unit. The rear 20x20 M2 it will fit 38mm x 40mm or more, or if you don't used the rear 20x20 and make a custom mount it can fit 42 x 40mm or more in the rear. It can be flown without the braces to reduce the weight but the GoPro footage won't be as crisp unless you turn the filters down a bit. Speed and battery life are basically to opposites. The only change that will improve both is a reduction in overall weight. Both my frames, this one, the RAD Li-ion and the Falcon 7 are designed with GoPro footage quality in mind. I'm working on a scout quad that gets double the range and flight time of what's seen in this video but it had to be much lighter, so it isn't meant to carry a GoPro. Thick arms = heavy but good for crisp gopro footage. (cinematic quad) Thin arms = lighter, faster, more flight time but the quality of the gopro footage is reduced. (scout quad)
@@FalconRadFPV Any chance I can get a early sneak peak at the components your using for this new quad coptor? I was thinking of copying this design for my own drone if you don’t mind but now that your coming out with a new better one I want to cop that. Is there a battery pack I can buy online for the RAD Li-ion?
Very cool but I was nervous with how low you were draining your batteries. I've been flying for more than 10+ years now commercially and it's a big nono to take batteries that low. I'm sure it's different with fpv but I saw as low as 3.18 under load. That seemed nuts.

Glad to hear about your interest. Twice I've lost one about 1 or 2 km out. One the battery ran out the other was getting behind a ridge and losing video then my GPS rescue didn't work for some reason, not sure why.
I would never get tired of flying with scenery like that great video loved it
Much appreciated.
Do you have a video of the kind of GoPro settings you use when you fly like this? Your videos look spectacular. I came across your channel recently and you earned yourself a subscriber sir.
In my quads and gear playlist I have a video about GoPro settings. I'm thinking about making a new one to compliment my new frame release soon.
Totally awesome. Why isnt any long range 7" pilot using bi blade props? I thought they are more efficient. Heard many have jello issues
I use tri-blades because I find them smoother. Many 7" quads do have jello issues. At 7" props spin much slower than a 5" so the vibrations are a lower frequency. The lower the frequency the more likely it is to interfere with HD footage in the form of jello. With tri-blades and my super stiff frames jello isn't really an issue at all for me.
amazing run..
Thanks!
Go Canada!!
Man, great video and thanks for sharing all your specs, it really helps me/inspire to try such long flights as well! Appreciate the vids you do!
Glad to hear it!
Very beautiful, thanks
Thank you! Cheers!
Do you have a video where you show this drone being built. I'm planning on 'attempting' to build it once I gather all the parts. It is an awesome drone!
Yes I do. It's quite detailed, with chapters to find each part of the build ua-cam.com/video/Q66jSfA7-ec/v-deo.html
Amazing flight! Really enjoyed the ride! 👌
Thanks a lot!
Nice one! The Location is so beautiful. Is there a reason to Fly with 1W Crossfire? I have set mine to 250mW Dynamic and never have seen more that 100mW on 6km away. Sure more output power means better penetration but is there another reason for you?
No reason, I think I have it set to 500mW now. But ya 250 should be fine. I've been 8.5km out at 250 mW on the V1 version of the micro TX.
Beautiful
Absolutely epic this vid is basically what got me into the hobby and I’m working hard to be able to flight like this ❤
Thank so much for the comment!
@@FalconRadFPV you’re welcome man ✌🏼
Muito legal esses videos!! Imagens lindas e a musica perfeita, obrigado!
Amazing!!i have a question about your flight?it would be possible with commercial drone like dji 3 pro and other ones?sorry if it's a dumb question :(
Thank you very much.
Absolutely amazing content! Is this in BC?
Mesmerizing
Great video! Thanks!
You're welcome!
Another awesome flight. Drone is so stable. I’d like to have a couple of days to pick your brain.
Thanks very much, it is a nice stable build but the footage was also run through reelsteady to smooth it out.
epic as always!
Thanks.
I'm not sure exactly. I do know that the propellers become less efficient at higher and higher altitudes because of the thinning air.
Nice vid as always, curious why didnt you set the Solo at max instead of 800Mw ?
No need, 800mW can do over 10km easy with good antennas.
Fantastic aerial footage and now it is time to hunt for Bigfoot.
I'll keep an eye out...
I wouldn't think they would have went bad because I only used those on my goggles and take good care of them
I like your drone
It is difficult to find big batteries here in Europe since I moved here >
Wow! nice flight : )
Thanks a lot!
You just deserved much more thab "just" over 300k subbers.
Maybe one day!
LOVE IT SUPER FLIGHT NICE TO BE SEEING WHAT YOU BEEN UP TO.
LOT TO CATCH UP BY LOOKS THINGS DID YOU EVER FIND YOU R LOST DRONE AAAA+++
Thanks! No I never did find it.
Magic💯💯💯💯
Hi sir. Just wanna ask if you still prefer the crf than the counterpart elrs?
(cinematic quad)
Thin arms = lighter, faster, more flight time but the quality of the gopro footage is reduced.
@@FalconRadFPV what kind of range do you get with your scout quad?
Very cool but I was nervous with how low you were draining your batteries. I've been flying for more than 10+ years now commercially and it's a big nono to take batteries that low. I'm sure it's different with fpv but I saw as low as 3.18 under load. That seemed nuts.
Are you keeping in mind li-ion numbers, not lipo?
@@ThereAreNoHandlesLeft oh no I missed that that makes a lot more sense
Ya still had more battery left, li-ion run at lower voltages.
