So much to love here - fantastically well documented journey - thx for putting this together. 'Week 3... got my third drone' 😂 - so very FPV. And that pillar at 1:38.... ooff. And... you were better at week 12 than I am after several years! Kudos. Bandos and diving stupidly massive stuff have become my two favourite FPV things overall.
Thank you David! Appreciate your kind words! The Pillar at 1:38 made me second guessing whether this was the right hobby for me tbh.. it was so frustrating. You can get better too! Practice is tough!
Hey Erik! Thank you very much. I switched from the Tinywhoop to DJI (Caddx Vista) and tried walksnail end of last year, but I did not like it. So I am still running the good old Caddx Vista!
wow..this is fantastic. I am hopefully going to follow your footsteps. I am waiting on a Pavo20 pro to try to learn with for a bit. I have several 5" quads to build (bought parts/etc over 2 year ago).. DJI and HDZero goggles.. motors, FCs, batteries, etc. Just haven't had the time. So now I am on a vendetta after having bought a DJI 4 min i pro.. to learn FPV and get my part 107.. for no other reason than to do it (the part 107). But I am building 3 7" drones too.. one is an old AOS frame 8 motor setup. Other is a Five33 long range FPV racing 7". Last is a StraHat FPV drone I bought as a kit to convert my BMPCC4K camera in to a naked camera in the frame to record 4K RAW footage. It's more a cinema FPV drone setup. BUT.. wont be flying any of those until I learn on the Pavo and then some 5" kits. I am hoping I can learn the stick controls.. I try in liftoff and I can barely fly it.. cant evern get thru the barn, etc without crashing and constantly struggle to try to do any sort of orbit or bank turns. Seems the controls are SUPER touchy. I plan on turning power WAY down and camera straight ahead initially to try to get some level of control before I add more power and tilt.
The earlier you accept it, the quicker you get better."
Well done and nice doc! anyway in my opinion fpv is better related to PACKS, instead of time. 1 year with 10 packs a day is not the same of 1 year with 10 packs a week. My question is : how many packs di you fly a month?
Thanks man! Thats a fair question, so I just wrote a small program that went through all my files. I flew ~1061 packs in a year in 80 sessions over the last year. In the beginning I went out a few times a week, but right now it is just once per week. That comes out to around 90 packs per month. But in recent months it is more like 50 packs per month (~12-14 per session)
Thanks for the comment! It depends, we have some "lame" bandos I can get to in around 20 minutes, but the more exciting ones are usually 30-60 minutes drive. But if you stay there for 5-6 hours, I think its worth it!
Great progress mate! The worst thing is flying drones is almost impossible in my country right now... This stuff gives me goosebumps... Good luck in your fpv career!
Absolutely amazing progress and such an inspiring video. It just goes to show that you get out what you put in! I need to get more hours flying and in the Sim
Man, thank you for this video. I am currently learning FPV with the avata 2 since it is beginner friendly. Your video gave me lots of confidence and patience to learn more.
Nice video! I started my journey six months ago with the DJI FPV. Now flying a 5 inch Speedy Bee, that made a big difference. Not had as much practice as you but getting better all the time. Looking back it's amazing how better I'm getting. Hope I'm as good as you in another six months 🙏
Thank you man! How did you like the DJI FPV personally? I only heard that it breaks once it touches anything lol. You got the Mario 5? You're already quite smooth on the sticks from what I saw. Keep working on it and you will be a great pilot!
@btastic_fpv Thx bud, it's the Master 5 V2, and yes, the Dji fpv is made of glass!. It got me started and is a nice drone, but once I started flying manual it was very unforgiving. I rebuilt it several times, and the parts are expensive. The Speedy Bee is much easier to fly and for more robust. 👍
Thanks dude! It also helps if they are watching you, and you can watch them. I am a visual learner and it usually helps just to see how others approach things and then copy them
Great question! Yes I was flying every week. In the beginning even more. The initial cost is a bit high because you need goggles (got them used for 400€) a radio transmitter for like 200€, my 5" quad was used for 360€ with 6 lipos included. My 3.5" was 350€ new, my tinywhoop was 100€ used. Thats 1400 for the start. Then I spend like 100-200€ every month on the hobby. Sometimes more, somestimes less, so it is probably around 2000-3000€ I spent in the year for the hobby.
Thanks man! Thats the power of digital video transmission! It has quite good penetration and it doesn't seem to be bothered by metal and rock/stones at all. Well, it depends how many layers of concrete/metal etc. But for normal bando flying it works great
Did you practice in any game first or just straight went to flying it? I have 5-6 hours in tryfpv and 8-10 hours in liftoff but don’t feel confident or ready to fly my avata in manual or buy a fpv drone yet
I did exactly that.. I spent around 15-20 hours in the sim, then I went flying a tiny whoop, more sim, got a 3.5", flew that for a few days, more sim, and then got a 5". You just gotta do it at some point. I would not do it with the avata maybe? Not sure because it is just plastic that will get damaged. A proper carbon fiber frame won't break that easily
Currently practicing on a sim with a whoop on the way. Once I get comfortable, would you recommend skipping the 3.5 and going straight to a 5 based on your experience?
Thanks for your comment. Right now I'd skip the 3.5" unless there are some regulations where you fly (sub 250g). The 3.5" is not much cheaper than a 5" and they are much more fun!
You can see at 1:46 my setup. You can easily get the parts online. The footage later on was recorded on a DJI Action 2. The quality is not what I see during the flights. 6:12 is usually the quality I get when I fly :)
Subbed. Nice job mate. I went about the same speed , didn’t focus on technical as much as you though, but was big into cliff dives and mountain surfing. Loved that close power loop over the tree! Shaved!
Thanks dude! I'd love to do some cinematic some time. Just to see how it all goes. But all we have is bandos, forests and grassy fields (which most are not allowed to fly anyways). Maybe in the future, but for now it will be freestyle
Thanks for sharing your progress, that shows your dedication and persistence to achieve this. Also shows that it is possible . I am about to start my day #1 possibly this week because my controller will arrive today (dji) 😅 nothing special but i will need to get a real fpv quad (right now i only have an avata2) . I will follow you and enjoy the experience , thanks for sharing friend! Thanks for showing others it is possible
I heard from so many beginners that they see me as an inspiration. Never thought about being someone that can inspire. So thank you for the kind words. Means a lot. Enjoy your journey and don't be scared of crashing. It will happen. 100% :)
The trippy spin comment "what a stupid idea" made me laugh so hard. im in that exact spot i can do them on the sim pretty well but not so much in real life haha i love this video fantastic progress
Thank you so much! I actually increased the gravity in uncrashed to make my quad heavier, because in real life I was falling down too much. Once I got used to use more throttle, I was actually able to do it in real life :) Good luck man!
Dude, of course you can 🙏. I am not doing anything special. Go out and fly. Always try something new and take some risks, you will get better eventually. Don't be scared of crashing. It happens regardless of the risk, so you might as well risk something 😊
Bandos can be rough! Some days I had to pack my stuff after 1-2 lipos. Those days are just frustrating and makes you second guessing if you're good enough. But the next week you do something sick, and you're good again :D It is a roller coaster somtimes
Dude!! You've come so far! You should be really proud of the dedication you have, and you have developed a skill for life That ladder dive was nice Mad respect for you = subbed
Nice Flying Also Do you have Any Starter kit ideas So i can get into Fpv Because i have been practicing on A Sim and i think im ready for Flying in the real world
Thank you man! Depends on what you wanna do. If you want to film and do cinematic stuff, I'd recommend something like a cinebot with a gopro. If you want to do freestyle and bando bashing, you can basically copy my build from the video or buy a Nazgul. Those are good too!
Wow, you should be very proud of yourself. That for sure takes some serious dedication. Congrats for sticking with your goals. The best thing is that you literally sucked at first, but because you kept going, you became a master. Watching this makes me dizzy, not to mention steering the drone. You also also improved editing over time and it makes it look even better. And if I understand correctly you build a FPV drone by yourself?
Hey man, thanks for the thorough comment and the compliments. I still suck sometimes, but I am getting consistent every week I practice more. Do you also fly? Yes I built my first drone like 3 weeks into the hobby. But I know how to handle a soldering iron and knew a bit of basic electronics before. So building a FPV drone was not as hard as for a total noob :) Thank you!
Yooo the progression it’s so sick! I’ve just got into FPV drones after flying normal drones and it’s a whole different story! Starting from 0 again! I’m a bit lost on how to get the drone going where I want to go still in the sim, do you have some tips man?? Again, amazing job, truly inspiring, you got a new sub, I’ll check your insta profile now!
Thanks Paolo! I started with the DRL sim. It had a bunch of tutorials that will take your training wheels off one by one. So first it is full angle mode, then they take away some bits until you're full acro. I liked the progression. Take it slow and easy. You will develop muscle memory so you have to think less about what your fingers are doing. It will take some time though.. be patient and keep practicing. Don't disregard the sim. It is a great tool to save money :D
Did you practice daily? If so it means the progress over 1 year of daily practice. I'd like to get into this and I wanna know how much time you need to put in to get at your level in the video
No I practiced usually twice a week, after around 6 months, it was just once per week. And some sim on the side. I calculated around 1000 packs in a year :)
This video is gold!!!! I am starting off with a 5 inch, been playing in Sim for about 4 hours and getting much better. Which Sim you use? I was using uncrashed
Thank you! I am mainly using uncrashed nowadays. I started off with DRL, since it had a easy tutorial which progressively took off the practice wheels, until full acro. Then I used a lot of liftoff, until finally settling on uncrashed. Custom maps are so much fun! :)
you have no idea how much i enjoyed this video my friend. truly inspiring and so glad to see the progress you have made! i just got my first quad in two weeks ago. flown only twice. im going to make more of an effort to fly more often. keep ripping! looks great!
Awesome journey man. And you compiled that video, making it really enjoyable from start to the end! Good job! I am year and a half in, but skill wise around your week 35 or so 😁
Thank you! Glad you liked watching it! I started working the video starting from like week #40 or so :) Don't worry about the progress to much man, there is no general benchmark. Everyone has their own speed, time and goals! As long as you're enjoying the hobby, you're doing everything right!
Thank you man! If you put in the time and effort, you can do it too! The number one tip: don't be scared of crashing. If you fly without much caring, you have more brain capacity for the fun stuff :)
@@btastic_fpvalready passed the stage. Already learned how to solder 😂 so no fesr of repairing. Switched from frsky to a radiomaster boxer with elrs. The difference is day and night. Wish you all the best!
5" is so much fun! Hope you enjoy it. You can find bandos on urbex maps or just browsing google maps in remote areas and have a look for interesting buildings. I found mine by the group I joined. Hope that helps!
Great video 💚 I started just after summer last year and as time got on I upgraded my stuff until I spent all my money on the DJI FPV and crashed it😢 but I left it a few months made more money and got myself a tinyhawk 2 freestyle and a radio master zorro so time to get back into now 💚💚💚
Thank you! I started with DRL, they have a good beginner tutorial imo. They take the training wheels off one step at a time, and then all of a sudden you're flying acro :) As for freestyle practice, I mostly use Uncrashed and a bit of Liftoff.
How many drones have you broken? I saw alot of crashes in the beginning. I have a big fear of crashing and i feal that it is stopping me from doing cool tricks, how did you avoid this?
There is no way to "avoid" crashing and destroying things. You can only do so much to not destroy something. I personally use TPU bumpers on my arms to protect the motors. Remember, you will crash eventually, the best pilots I have flown with crash frequently. Most of the newer drones can take a beating. I personally fly the Amax F5S frame. I know a few pilots that swear on the Apex clones from Ali. I destroyed 1 arm, 1 bottom plate and 1 mid plate during the time. Many motors. Few FC/ESC (like 2-3). Plenty of bent screws and standoffs. VTX antennas get also destroyed if you start flying backwards (mattys, trippies etc.). Hundreds of propellers.. if you want to fly freestyle, get many propellers. You can bend them back depending on the condition, but once they are stripped, you have to replace them. The toughest bill is when you destroy a VTX, which sets you back ~$120. Or the action camera of course. The trick is to go cheap with everything without compromising. Here is a little list of the stuff I use: Frame: Amax F5S ($40-50), very durable Motors: Xing E-Pro 2207 1800kv (set of 4 for ~$50 on ali) Stack: SpeedyBee F405 (~$60 on their website) Props: Gemfan Sbang (6 sets for ~$12) VTX: Caddx Vista with Nebula Pro (bought them used for ~$110) VTX Antenna: Rush Cherry UFL LHCP ($18 for 2 on ali) Receiver: Crossfire Nano RX (bought some used for $10-15) You can get away with cheap builds for around $350. Build 2 of them. If you destroy one, you're not going home immediately. Hope this helps :)
@@alexanderg-p3z Yes! I don't have the same stack on my drones, but I don't feel that much of a difference to be honest. As long as your frame, motors and props are similar, it will probably fly just fine. But maybe that is also some inexperience on my part. I often think to myself, that if it flies, it flies :)
@@alexanderg-p3z I think I've only flown 3 different frames and 2 different motors. I think it is better to get to know your stuff and get your equipment as consistent as possible
Brilliant to see this. Inspirational for me as I've only just started myself.. posted a couple and will probably do something similar to this after a year. I hope to be half as good as you. Great vid!
Thank you! You always have to compare yourself to .. yourself. Other than that, it gets frustrating real fast if you compare yourself to pro freestyle pilots. This is why I am documenting my progress, to look back some time and see where it all started. It is so much fun to watch old DVR. Keep some older footage around and compare yourself to it. You will be surprised how much you can notice in which areas you are improving.
@btastic_fpv Doing the same thing, these beginning videos I'm capturing are boring, but it's good to show progress. I record every flight, and not all make it to UA-cam. :-)
@@btastic_fpv I flew years ago, started back in 2017/18 but all I did was crash. No SIM time got out of it because I felt like I wasn't improving. Wow that's awesome. You got really good!
Thanks dude! Appreciate it 🙏
I’m a month in. Love your dedication!
Thanks. I just love flying! 😍
Awesome progression. You mention switching to HD in the beginning. Curious what your development was? Analog -> DJI -> HDZero?
Cool breakdown of the year and your progress 👍 enjoyed
Thank you, I'm glad you liked it!
Really enjoyed the music you chose to pair with this!
Thank you! I had like 5 or 6 which I liked, it is hard to make decisions. Glad you liked them!
this was such a fun video, really like how ur confidence grew as the weeks passed on
Thanks! That's how it should be I think. Be confident in your skills and don't be scared. Crashing happens regardless of both

Absolutely incredible bandos. How far do you have to travel to those bandos?
Thanks for the comment! It depends, we have some "lame" bandos I can get to in around 20 minutes, but the more exciting ones are usually 30-60 minutes drive. But if you stay there for 5-6 hours, I think its worth it!
i fly for a year now and this makes me feeling really happy for you!
Thanks man! 🙏How is your flying?
Great progress mate! The worst thing is flying drones is almost impossible in my country right now... This stuff gives me goosebumps... Good luck in your fpv career!

Man, thank you for this video. I am currently learning FPV with the avata 2 since it is beginner friendly. Your video gave me lots of confidence and patience to learn more.
Thanks for watching! Glad you got inspired!

Great footage!! How much did the setup cost?
Thanks! Around 1000€ for drone, goggles and radio :)
Quite, a bit then, I'm thinking of getting the nazgul eco, about 500€ for the whole setup 🤔😁
Awesome progress! Really helps when you got someone to fly with and learn from.
Thanks dude! It also helps if they are watching you, and you can watch them. I am a visual learner and it usually helps just to see how others approach things and then copy them

Thanks for the kind words man, appreciate it! 😍
@@btastic_fpv keep it up...looking slick
Hey question how much do u think the hobby cost for the whole year? It seemed like you probably flew weekly right?
Great question! Yes I was flying every week. In the beginning even more. The initial cost is a bit high because you need goggles (got them used for 400€) a radio transmitter for like 200€, my 5" quad was used for 360€ with 6 lipos included. My 3.5" was 350€ new, my tinywhoop was 100€ used. Thats 1400 for the start.
Then I spend like 100-200€ every month on the hobby. Sometimes more, somestimes less, so it is probably around 2000-3000€ I spent in the year for the hobby.
Way to go ,keep pushing yourself . great video God bless. Take care. Stay safe.
Thanks man. 🙏 You too!!
Only learning so pretty inspirational how far you have come .. Thanks & Happy Ripping 😀
Thank you, you can do it too! :)
Nice video, how is your video signal soo strong with all that metal around you?
Thanks man! Thats the power of digital video transmission! It has quite good penetration and it doesn't seem to be bothered by metal and rock/stones at all. Well, it depends how many layers of concrete/metal etc. But for normal bando flying it works great
@@btastic_fpv Ah okay, i also have a digital system and with open fields i get about 400 metres range
That progression, though! Was awesome seeing how you got to where you are now.
Thanks so much! I mostly did it for me to see where I am now. Didn't expect the video to blow up that much!
It's always cool to see the progression in the FPV world! Keep pushing man!
Thanks! 🙏 Will do!
Dude great video, gave me a realistic timeline on flying fpv from the beginning.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. Let me know where you are in 1 year :)
What kind of drone is that? The quality is amazing! I guess it's something you cant easily find in the market?
You can see at 1:46 my setup. You can easily get the parts online. The footage later on was recorded on a DJI Action 2. The quality is not what I see during the flights. 6:12 is usually the quality I get when I fly :)
I think I saw you on Reddit (the very last clip), it's amazing the progress you had in just one year! Congratz and keep flying!
Thanks dude! It was my first time posting a clip on reddit. They seemed to like it. Maybe I'll post some more in the future!
Whats the name of the 3.5" quad?? Good video
Thanks! It is a Babyhawk II HD with a Caddx Vista (in the meantime, they also added a o3 version)
Great flying I’m on my way there. Wish I had people to fly with in az
Thanks! You can do it! Maybe check some local FB groups or ask on reddit. There are probably some pilots in AZ too :)
Thanks for sharing your progress, that shows your dedication and persistence to achieve this. Also shows that it is possible . I heard from so many beginners that they see me as an inspiration. Never thought about being someone that can inspire. So thank you for the kind words. Means a lot. Enjoy your journey and don't be scared of crashing. It will happen. 100% :)
How much did this growing exercise cost you? From start to finish, including all drones, batteries and goggles, everything.
Hard to say.. probably 2000-3000€
Aerial gymnastics with your fingers. Beautiful.

Excellent work mate. I'm coming behind ya.
Nice! Keep at it and you will overtake me :)
Once I got used to use more throttle, I was actually able to do it in real life :)

Awesome journey, you became a very skilled pilot!
Also, how many times did you have to fix your drone on this learning year? Just curious

Thanks 👍
So building a FPV drone was not as hard as for a total noob :)
Thank you!
That is some serious progress right there! You are already a very talented pilot and I wish you the best. I wish we had bandos like that in the US :(

SICK AF. I'm just starting researching this and I cannot wait to get started!
Awesome! Happy flying!
@@btastic_fpv wow, nice I was expecting more time . Good job

As for freestyle practice, I mostly use Uncrashed and a bit of Liftoff.
This was amazing to watch! The progression was awesome and inspiring to watch!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it! 🙏
Here is a little list of the stuff I use:
Frame: Amax F5S ($40-50), very durable
Motors: Xing E-Pro 2207 1800kv (set of 4 for ~$50 on ali)
Stack: SpeedyBee F405 (~$60 on their website)
Props: Gemfan Sbang (6 sets for ~$12)
VTX: Caddx Vista with Nebula Pro (bought them used for ~$110)
VTX Antenna: Rush Cherry UFL LHCP ($18 for 2 on ali)
Receiver: Crossfire Nano RX (bought some used for $10-15)
You can get away with cheap builds for around $350.
Build 2 of them. If you destroy one, you're not going home immediately. Hope this helps :)
@@btastic_fpv Good call, build 2 quads, or 3. Having the same setup makes it that much easier to get accustomed to the flight characteristics.
@@btastic_fpv The motors and frame is where you see the biggest difference for sure.

Thanks for sharing, great progress. As a beginner you feel like it will be forever and day to get to where you want to be. Keep up the great work.
