Even with GPS Rescue, it is essential that you create a widget on your radio that constantly displays your G-Code or basically your latitude and longitude. Even with a downed bird, you can take a picture of the values on your radio screen and then use a GPS compass app on your phone to bring you literally within 5-10 feet of the drones physical location. This is all assuming that you still maintain telemetry with the drone during the crash so the values update and are correct. This would have made your search effortless.

@@jc.cantrell Hi, Oscar Liang has written a guide entitled "How to Log Telemetry Data in EdgeTX". You can use this to write GPS coordinates and other telemetry fields to SD card every second while a model is armed. So its a lipo battery so it doesnt have the full 7000 capacity, it will go to about 5600 before it dies, and when i actually lost connection it was around 4000mah used. So it just died before it got back. It also had to climb to 6000 feet before returning
I’ve recently perched a couple of these beacons that vifly makes. They beep super loud and light up and they have their own battery and will go for two days or more I think they’re only $20 each totally worth it. I will always use it on the current quad that I’m flying.
Start painting your frames bright colors. Hot pink, fluorescent yellow, anything that’s contrasting to the environment. That and like what someone above said, self powered beeper. Vifly makes one that at night flashes a strobe every few seconds. Makes finding a downed quad easily at night.
Put a bigger angle at rth mode, i almost lost a drone in a safe scenario because the wind was so strong that the rth speed couldn t defeat the wind speed and my buddy blackout me with another armed drone, the sd card was full and i didnt had any recording or log on the remote, but i had the ennoying buzzer that saved me event though we can barely heard it becuse the wind was strong. There is an usefull mod that can write the last 50 coordonates at every each 5 sec even you forgot to activate the other display coord mods. even one rescue mode is usefull but when you have minimum 2 you can find it way faster. Safe flights.
@@eparustefan thx for the advice. Sometimes you would never think of any of this stuff until it happens to you. I could definitely see the wind making rth impossible!
Its a blue tooth tile, It doesnt have its own GPS, the tile will connect to my phone and use that to ping its location. So its worthless unless i get within 40 feet or so
Man, this is exactly why I have inav and have the inav lua script on my tx16s. Send the gps grid coordinates right back to my screen. I just punch that into Google maps and walk right to it. If I still have my radio connected, I'll activate my beeper when I'm close to aid in finding it if it's in thick stuff like that.
what if you had the GPS coordinates displayed on your radio, via telemetry? It could have helped in narrowing down search area drastically, right? I had accidentally disarmed my 5 inch mid flight, lost it some 350 meters away from my home, and I never found it. It was even denser vegetation than what you encountered. It was after that incident, that I configured the radio telemetry to display the coords. It may help in worst case scenario. In your case, that tile device was totally worth it!
@@CRAGLORD Missed to mention that the rate at which the telemetry updates the coordinates displayed on the radio matter - because during a high speed flight at an altitude, if the quad starts to fall down, the gps coords via telemetry may not always indicate precise location. Experienced that too.

It was a fried power wire. Not sure why the wire failed but thats why it happened. Never flew LOS or anything.
@@CRAGLORD power wire to the googles? 😳
@@VlaViRus no a power wire leading from the FC to the O3 air unit. Not fault of dji this time
@@CRAGLORD oh, got it. Bad placing in the drone?) It's fried by itself or something else?)
@@VlaViRus It fried on its own. Only possible factor is that I was using a high voltage batt? Maybe?
What firmware are u Running on the DJI 2 / O3? Normaly it should reconnect - did u find the causing fault? 🤔
Yea it was a fried wire that powers the O3. I just replaced it and its working normally, still gonna need to do some testing before helion gets yeeted into the mountains again.
So was it the gps climb that killed the battery otherwise you would have not made it back regardless of signal loss
yes climbing up and then coming back down was taking wayyyy too long. I took LOS control and it died just after
@CRAGLORD shouldn't the gps have landed for you i saw you went behind a part of the mountain were you lost signal
@@aarondodson1261 no the gps really is only to get to a place where you can reconnect. I don't think it would have landed, and descending 6000 feet in gps mode apparently takes forever anyway lol
@CRAGLORD it will actually and you can change the settings as to how fast it flies back and decends even how high it initially climbs
@@aarondodson1261 nice! thx man ill look into this
nice video! I would recommend to use telemetry on your radio to get the coordinates without googles working...
Congratulations on the battle, what equipment did you use to locate it on your cell phone? Hugs
Great efforts, please show you the Helion 10 condition after the crash
@@Suryakakade it's actually in perfect condition. It hit a fluffy tree and soft ground with a lot of leaves. Even the battery and props are OK! Only damage was the dji action 5 magnetic mount.
Its a bug at the current firmware of the goggles keep that in mind. Always log gps data on the Radio. I have lost my helion due to this as well but i could retrieve it thanks to that. But it was quiet a hike 😂😂
@@5L1K-l33t you have any video of you're mishap? I'd love to see it! This one wasn't actually the firmware issue I believe, I tracked down a bad wire
@ Aaah shoot. Its just gnarly when ur visiona gone 💀😂 I have the Footage im thinking about uploading it 😃
Congrats on the sweet ending 🎉
THX dude!
something is wrong. 2800mah used. 2.58 km to home, 7000 mah not enough to return? u started with empty battery?
So its a lipo battery so it doesnt have the full 7000 capacity, it will go to about 5600 before it dies, and when i actually lost connection it was around 4000mah used. So it just died before it got back. It also had to climb to 6000 feet before returning
@@CRAGLORD i checked it's from another footage. 1:30
Oh snap the Craglord is at it again!
Damn that was a cool and exiting video. Now i gotta think about how i could implement smth like this for my chimera 7
I’ve recently perched a couple of these beacons that vifly makes. They beep super loud and light up and they have their own battery and will go for two days or more I think they’re only $20 each totally worth it. I will always use it on the current quad that I’m flying.
Thx for pro tip dude!
luky~
Start painting your frames bright colors. Hot pink, fluorescent yellow, anything that’s contrasting to the environment. That and like what someone above said, self powered beeper. Vifly makes one that at night flashes a strobe every few seconds. Makes finding a downed quad easily at night.
Yea haha, this hobby is wild! Still learning so much. Thx for the tips! I think ill go with orange!
But why did it lose video? even as it got closer? Nice recovery!
Turns out the power wire to the O3 air unit got fried☠
Great find brother! Had a similar issue and took me a week to find!
Did you find what the problem was? Why it didnt reconnect?
@CRAGLORD I did not; still not sure myself.
@@rustyscrewsrc I just replaced the power wire to my 03 unit and it's working now. Maybe try that!
Upgrading to Analog will solve the issue brother, great save !
@@platyfpv I'm in too deep with dji haha. Gonna just have to suffer the caveats that come with it
And... Why did the vtx disconnect?
No drone left behind…😊
Great story!! Does any gps device can connect back to the android?
Yea the Tile uses bluetooth. I was hoping my phone would connect to it if i got it close enough.
You had a gps ring in your drone ?? I didn’t understand what you showed ??
Its a blue tooth tile, It doesnt have its own GPS, the tile will connect to my phone and use that to ping its location. So its worthless unless i get within 40 feet or so
Looks like you didn't have an autonomous beeper! Why? JHEMCU ones is just 5$ on ali!
i think this is the dji goggles 2 disconnecting glitch
Possibly, but I replaced the power wire to the O3 and its working now.
Goggles 2 and O3 have no issues. It's the Goggles 3 that disconnect with O3 randomly
You can adjust the speed of the return to home flight. Usually its set quite slow. I think making it faster would have probably got it back.
I didnt know this, thank you! I never imagined id have to use GPS for anything other than just reconnection.
Even with the cheapest Radiomaster Pocket you can record telemetry and EdgeTX even has a script to display a Google code of a last known location.
@kmieciu4ever yeah, it is definitely worthwhile to get that setup on whatever radio that supports it.
Ill definitely be doing this from now on. Thank you!
Mantap bro salam kenal salam satu pilot 👍✌️
what if you had the GPS coordinates displayed on your radio, via telemetry? It could have helped in narrowing down search area drastically, right?
I had accidentally disarmed my 5 inch mid flight, lost it some 350 meters away from my home, and I never found it. It was even denser vegetation than what you encountered.
It was after that incident, that I configured the radio telemetry to display the coords. It may help in worst case scenario. In your case, that tile device was totally worth it!
Yea after making this video people told me about this! I have controller telemetry all set up now, thx for pro tip!
@@CRAGLORD Missed to mention that the rate at which the telemetry updates the coordinates displayed on the radio matter - because during a high speed flight at an altitude, if the quad starts to fall down, the gps coords via telemetry may not always indicate precise location. Experienced that too.
This is why I always have Telemetry screens in my radio. incase i lose video I have batt voltage and Link quality and rssi in the radio and gps heading
So no one listened to JB or MADZ when they said don’t fly the 03 air unit they don’t reconnect after the signal loss question what configurator I NAV or beta flight and what flight controller was that
@@mikediggsv2 this was actually a different issue. Power wire went bad for whatever reason. Otherwise I'm confident it would have reconnected. It's a stock helion 10, f7 FC I believe
Trying to watch the Helion with your Mavic was genius. Shame it didn't work.
I didnt realize the helion was at 6k feet.... mavic wont go even close to that high. Thanks tho!
