Though it is out-topic, I had to think about it again when radiation was mentioned to be related to the Cosmic Entities and their artifacts, which made me think of Atom and the Children of Atom.
Then again how do you explain Oswald from the nuka world dlc? Hes a glowing ghoul and gains several magic abilities without any direct worship, maybe the Eldrich being be it atom or the other being sees Oswald as worthy?
@@trinitite4617 I don't think 'worship' is necessary, just the radiation. Remember, Oswald is in one of the most irradiated areas apart from the Glowing Sea and his rooftop in particular has a ton of radioactive barrels. Radiation is itself a catalyst for change, it mutates matter slowly over time. To be highly irradiated means faster and more turbulent change (typically death or ghoulification). While I think a deity or even a Pantheon of sorts does exist in Fallout from what we see in the Children of Atom and Cabot House (and others in other games), I view their interaction with the world as a result of radiation, not strictly worship. Really, the worship comes after the radiation. I don't know how this relationship works... I don't know if Bethesda has actually formulated a plan as much as they've just pieced it together. But I would look at something like the Witch in Far Harbor and the visions we get there as a kind of indication that there exists different realms of reality and that radiation (somehow) bridges those realms. It allows the influences of something like the Eldrich Gods to pass into our reality, for example. My question would be how far back does this understanding really go? For example, were there Eldrich cultists in the ranks of Vault Tec or Robco? Is this what attracted Zetan aliens to us and are they involved with it? ....Tons of neat stuff to consider.
They could be the same entity? Gods in mythos don't generally share bastions of expertise, having two or three radiation gods would be strange, like having three fire gods in the same pantheon. I suppose it could be a resulting factor, the radiation, rather than a sentient force, like these deities just happen to cause it when they communicate with the world or it's what actually allows them to do so. But given the series is about the effects of radiation and nuclear fallout on society, it'd make more sense if there was just a radioactive god... or it'd fit better in the story, I guess. "Sense" doesn't really mean anything in fiction. For example, this theoretical gamma god exists in the FO universe, gently nudges human civilizations towards great nuclear feats and bringing them into the common home, unlike what happened in ours since we don't have an Ug-Qualtoth, and maybe once it's strong enough with radiation a thin lead wall between every man, woman and child in the world at any given moment it even triggers the 2-hour atomic happy hour to further spread it's influence. That could explain the seeming permanence of the radiation in Fallout, too. But I don't think Uggy and Atom would be separate gods. The CoA seemed to find this deity naturally once they got enough of their synapses melted by the radiation, whereas the ones in the Point Lookout/Dunwich story were explicitly chosen and forced by the god itself. The chosen ones also all ghoulified. While we don't know if Constance did, I'd assume she was since Jaime and his father were. Maybe all ghouls were chosen but without the artifacts, Uggy can't communicate with them, and without it guiding them they go feral and decay. The Children get off scott-free because they are worshipping it, which we know is all it wants, so they get immunity, but they aren't chosen and so aren't ghoulified. But who knows. It's not like Bethesda is going to remember their Lovecraft side story in 12 years when Fallout 5 comes out. I'm pretty sure they forgot it already anyway since it's nowhere to be seen in 76, I don't think.
That "Happy Hour" actually came out of employees checks whether or not they joined into the Happy Hour. I guess the Lone Wanderer was worthy whether or not they had good or bad karma. Lol. I hope this is expanded upon in the next Fallout.
76 also has a Dunwitch location but in many ways, it shares similar notes to Dunwitch Quarry, complete with unearthing another eldrich abomination. The twist is this one actually looks like something monstrous, a body made up of root structures.
The eldritch recognizes it's own. The Play is an unfathomable being beyond the scope of any within the fallout universe. After all, to us, it's all just a game.
I know there's a weird lack of ghouls in the children of atom but considering many of their members seem to have an immunity to radiation and there being references of them occasionally worshiping glowing ghouls I've always thought that "Atom" might be either another name for Ug-Qualtoth or maybe another similar being in lore.
The Children of Atom cult you encounter in Broken Steel has a lot of ghouls among its ranks. They had a machine that projected concentrated radiation, so they turned very fast. But in general, unless you are exposed to an ungodly amount of radiation it takes a few years if not decades to become a ghoul, and the Children of Atom is a very new movement so many of its members simply haven't been exposed long enough to become ghouls.
I feel like not enough people compliment the work and attention to detail you put into the cinematic shots in your videos. The narration wouldn't hold nearly the same weight than if it wasn't there. Great work as always dude.

This is by far the best video I’ve ever seen on this specific topic within Fallout lore. I’ve never seen all of the information surrounding the Eldritch storylines in Besthesda Fallout games laid out in one place. This was a great watch, and I learned quite a bit. Thank you!
The idea that an eldritch being protects certain people from instant death from radiation and even nuclear blasts brings out an interesting question when it comes to Moira Brown (the shop owner in Megaton from Fallout 3, who was writing the Wasteland Survival Guide). She would have been at ground zero if you set off the nuke while at Tenpenny Tower. How could she have possibly survived the blast while standing relatively right next to it? Maybe she was secretly a worshipper of Ug-Qualtoth and had helped plan the explosion (thus why she was still so chipper despite the Vault Dweller straight up telling her he set it off), or maybe she had come across and was looking after some kind of artefact that protected her, but was lost in the explosion…
I didn’t know this story about the Black hall family or the kid and his dad. Thank you for this information! You are the National Geographic of Fallout.
One of the very few excellent Fallout lore creators still out there. Please keep putting out this good stuff. It seems that Fallout lore videos are dying off :(
Imagine the plottwist that the children of Atom are actually worshipping an eldritch being but under a different name hence some cultists are fully immune to radiation
i like this quote from synonymous "doom to walk the earth until they find unrelenting force", because synonymous knows it's connected to elder scrolls lore :3
Ug-Qualtoth is imo the best part of Fallout lore and one of the only things that doesn't feel like its been bastardized like many other things in the series. Thanks for the video it was great
Something interesting about the head you find at the bottom of the pit in dunwich quarry is that it's actually seen around many buildings as a big ornamental head statue. Don't know if bethesda was just reusing assets or its something more unusual going on.
Giant human staues actually appear in Fallout 1&2 as well! As full bodies or just the heads, so it's probably a prewar building style (Classic fallouts had a lot of Gothic architecture). Bethesda likely just took some elements out of that, though that doesn't exclude the possibility of them retconing the purpose.
That head has been seen since Morrowwind in Bethesda Games. The thing is, it always feels purposely placed. Dwemmer Ruins, The Bottom of a Well, on the sides of buildings in New Vegas, sides of the Boston Highschool. I think it's more than a coincidence.
@@1313puredragon I doubt it's reusing assets. The face can be seen on the enclave oil rig. That was long before Bethesda owned the series. There's something significant about the stone faces.

ok, i get the whole chosen to be ghoulified by the elder god, but that can't be the only way ghouls become because of moria from fallout 3 she is defiantly pure of heart and i wouldnt see why the elder god would choose her then
I believe Moira could be tricked into worshipping, much like Jaime (he has very evil karma but was shocked when the raiders killed a family for food, Ug-Qualtoth made him evil and could do the same to Moira) likely she would be enticed through the opportunity to research the deity but ultimately would be consumed by it.
that "sleeping giant". is actually the same bust statue that is on most the buildings in the cities of fallout 4. someone recorded doing a no clip and explored the eye in the dunwitch quarry. it is just a reused asset of the statues. but it is probably supposed to represent something els. even if it is just the exact same face that you see on most buildings in the cities...
I actually tried to search out all the locations with those statues to see if there was any connection between them or if their locations on the map formed any kind of pattern, like if X marked the spot, as it were. Lol, waste of time so far as I can tell, but it was a bit of fun.
Sooooo.... using that sacrificial blade; maybe not the best idea eh... well, that's not good. I definitly used it alot, even made it stronger by attaching it to a legendary (the blade appearance/effect is actually a mod).
I hope in the next Fallout game they utilize a plotline/story arc that is heavily Eldritch/Dunwich Horror themed and it would be amazing if it was emphasized that these Old Ones were responsible or at least played a significant hand in the Great War, perhaps even instigating it if not directly caused it
The more on-the-nose Lovecraftian themes that were included in Fallout 3, and onward, are spoopy fun and I hope that Bethesda continues these side-plots in a future, single-player Fallout game.
I think the best part of how well Bethesda played off this storyline is how the writers managed to capture the terror of the unknown and our own natural curiosity to poke our heads into that terror just to find out what it is
there's a mod for Fallout 4 called children of ug-qualtoth that adds a decent amount of stuff, but mostly amazing lore and ambiance. you find the entire area under the abandoned church in the glowing sea, and it is a very fun location to play through.
I visited that quarry a few days ago. I found the dagger, had the flashbacks and slayed the ghouls. I had no idea this is obe of the storylines streching across from fo3.
Dude you have awesome Fallout Lore Videos, very enjoyable to watch some lore from someone wither than Oxhorn and ThenThapple. keep’em coming bro you’re doing a great job.

Great, I just went through the Dunwich building in 3 today without knowing the story, and it was an experience I was hoping to forget. I didn't think this video would make sure I remember it forever
I find it curious that in many of the Commonwealth buildings of Fallout 4, the chrome godlike statues within them seem to mirror the style of craftsmanship on the sleeping giant…
Not sure if it's been mentioned, but with all the talk of connections between Ug-Qualtoth and other deities, I feel that Fallout 76's Mothman Cultists, the Lucky Hole Mine creature, and the statue heads found buried underneath of Tanagra Town to all possibly be connected to this. There are giant statue heads found underground in both Lucky Hole Mine and Tanagra Town and its no coincidence that the Cult of the Mothman was founded out of Lucky Hole Mine, even before the war. Like Atom, it's possible that "Mothman" could be representative of another deity.
Crazy ass theory. It's obvious that the Fallout games all have some Eldritch connection. So what if Vault-Tec started this war not just to give birth to/summon their Great Old One? Either from the souls lost, or the chaos to ensue after the bombs dropped. Idk, it's kinda rough but it was literally a light bulb. A dim one but a lightbulb nonetheless.
I always thought the “sleeping giant” that you described is just an ancient statue. The top of an old temple. The style of which is seen on the buildings around town. Seems to hint that the influence of the ancients was more widespread than first glance would show.
Abdullah AL Hazred is one of the most controversial case in the Arabic culture, he was a black magic magician who allegedly wrote a book on black magic and he claimed he wrote it by the tongue of the Satan. The book has vanished and the man himself vanished as well, no one knows what happened to him.
There is no real alhazred, lovecraft invented him as author of the necronomicon, he used that name bc he roleplayed as an arab after reading 1001 nights as child. This is all just the fantasy of hpl.
I appreciate you covering this, I like reading the comments for theories and there was one that really ties well into one that might be plausible. I never really understood Ug-Qualtoth as well until I started watching your videos but the Eldritch deity aspect is something that is very intriguing. If it’s a god of radiation, what influence did it have on Vault-Tec? I mean we all know how bad radiation poisoning has on people irl, other than it being it alternate universe, how do humans in Fallout have such resistance to radiation without literally falling apart? I always thought the Vault-Tec executives were power-drunk-insane from the prospect of creating a new world for themselves, but to really doom it to death? I think this deity of radiation, might see mankind as a potential permanent power source, to give Ug-Qualtoth souls and the collective power of worship in exchange for humanity to have resistance to radiation and other gifts like immortality. It’s possible, if the Children of Atom are not already ghouls, how are they still normal humans? The Apostles of the Eternal Light in Broken steel encouraged people turning into ghouls, who also don’t attack them when they do? Atom could be another face of Ug-Qualtoth, slowly gathering followers in different ways for multi-scaled sources of power to be stronger. If there are more cults in different places on the planet, then the fate of humanity may be looking pretty bleak on a Lovecraftian or even 40k level which kinda suits the narrative. Comically bleak lol

They have rad child and rad resistance perk
That "Happy Hour" actually came out of employees checks whether or not they joined into the Happy Hour.
I guess the Lone Wanderer was worthy whether or not they had good or bad karma. Lol.
I hope this is expanded upon in the next Fallout.
Wow... now that IS evil... XD
76 also has a Dunwitch location but in many ways, it shares similar notes to Dunwitch Quarry, complete with unearthing another eldrich abomination. The twist is this one actually looks like something monstrous, a body made up of root structures.
@@gratuitouslurking8610 oh yeah Oxhorn did a video about it. The interloper is what that creepy thing is called.
@@madmorgo6233 the most evil thing they've done 😂
Thank you for being the voice of the people
Sometimes we don't say what we were thinking enough and you freaking nailed it and he saw it 💝
I would love to see a video on the Children of Atom, as to me at least, they are one of the more...mysterious? Loony? Groups in the wasteland. The worship of Atom, the fact they treat Atom as both radiation but also a person(?) Much love mr. Syn, and if anyone wants to add some self made theories id love to read them! Good day everyone
Everything is Atom. Radiation is Atom's holy act of creating new worlds through division
(I believe)
I was extremely curious about the "visions" as well, and while exploring far harbor i discovered an area, possibly a church or something higher up with a view, very specific i know, but it had Children propaganda, stealth boys, and messages the "mother of the fog" states to the player. After staking the place out for three in game days however, no npc showed up, so...another mystery i guess?
@@smeggiamagarwine Ive been looking through different saves and such all morning here but have yet to find them, but this will not deter me, i will find you those messages. On a side note, have you found any weird or creepy mannequins in fallout, because those things scare me...
@@smeggiamagarwine i had also been checking the wiki, but mainly for notes relating to the Mother or any of her lines, but came up with nothing. And that little girl...i initially thought it was a cheeky gunner, set up a haunted house to be haunted, keep people out. @@smeggiamagarwine Maybe she got the same issue as the Nightkin due to the usage lf Stealth Boys?
I remember the Dunwich building in Fallout 3. The obelisk scared the crap out me when I was a kid lmao
Boring tunnels? I think they can be rather exciting.
I see what you did there
The names Abdul and Alhazred is a reference to HP Lovecraft, Abdul Alhazred is the name of the author of the Necronomicon
This quest freaked me the fuck out on my first play through. Legit was totally engrossed in the game more so than ever. I know it’s kinda ‘Skyrimy’ and less Fallout but by god did I love it!
Or 'Obliviony'
Not Skyrim at all. Those stories where always moderny ish. More real space gods then just magic realms gods. But i get what u mean tho
@@SilentSpringz I believe he means the subject matter and narrative, ie Fallout quests are traditionally about interpersonal conflict with the player serving as deuteragonist, whereas Skyrim/Oblivion quests are usually styled as their own little adventures with the player as the protagonist
I know the Dunwich lore is purely Bethesda, but I kind of wished that there would have been a Dunwich bit in New Vegas.
I was horribly creeped out in the Dunwich building when I first came across it in 3, and I wanted to see what Obsidian would have done with particular part of Fallout lore.
I kind of understand why they wanted to keep the creepy ghost stuff on the east coast since ghost stories are prevelant throughout the local cultures of the east coast, from New England down to Southern Appalachia.
If you want a freight go to quarry junction with a service rifle and ap rounds
@@trinitite4617 lol Going to Quarry Junction at all. Only place I won't go to without GRA Anti-Material rifle and ap or explosive rounds. I know you CAN do it with base version and other weapons, but I'm not a masochist who likes to spend all that time there to Vegas paranoid af.
Jack Cabot in fallout 4 mentions a lost alien city buried underneath Nevada, so maybe we'll get to see that at some point. Though some people speculate he's mistaking MT with an alien city lol
That's why I'm disappointed with New Vegas. Game was great, but you do a Fallout in Nevada and no Area 51? Nothing about aliens? Or Goverment conspirancy? You had an entire questline right there, about pre-war goverment doing shady stuff, aliens, men in black... And it all wasted for... The boomers. I mean, the name says it all.
I mean... At least grab the elvis "Viva las vegas" song for the trailer, for christ sake.
I can't believe I never noticed the gigantic head at the bottom of the tunnel in the Dunwhich borers mine
Thanks so much for doing this one! I've always been a huge fan of H.P. Lovecraft and always loved that fallout has this hidden storyline.
I have been wanting to replay the fallout games properly and have been really struggling to do so but then I found your channel and have been binging on lore videos, thank you for reigniting my love for the franchise. Keep fighting the good fight man!
Honestly, I spent too much time trying to connect dots in FO4 with all this. I thought the statues, which can be found in various locations, may have indicated a pattern or told a story of sorts beyond just the borers.
I feel like beings such as Mysterious Stranger, Miss Fortune and unknown helpful forces, are eldrich beings. Who try their best to stop the evil eldrich beings from escaping to our world. They help the players to randomly show up and kill an enemy.
They don't directly interfere with stopping the supernatural evils. The player just so happened to show up and destroyed the evil artifacts.
Dogmeat too.
Hell yeah made my day so much better ... Thanks for your hard work!! Hope you having a great start of the week!
Love your work man. Out of nowhere, the best fallout lore channel in the world.

since shoddycast stopped and Nate having a break... this is the only place i can relive fallout again
This is why I love fallout. I feel like I will never stop learning new things about these games
It would've been cool if we heard the voice after picking up the book. Just imagine the possibilities.
A NEW HAND TOUCHES THE BEACON
There is a voice that plays at the Obelisk in the Dunwich Building basement if you listen closely.
Just did this mission last night, glad i didnt have to go looking hard for the lore! Thanks for the great timing!
I'm sure this has been tested before, but has anyone been able to bring an NPC to the Dunwich boarers and sacrificed them with the knife found there?
That's a good idea
I did, and nothing happens.
Bummer. Kinda hoping it would unleash Ug-Qualtoth upon the Commonwealth… can you imagine…. It would be beautiful.
@@bradameerbeg2154 I like that they've kept it in the background but It would be nice to do SOMETHING with it. Hell... bring Lorenzo Cabot down there and let him and the Eldrich God duke it out.
Can you place the book inside the obelisk? Most of my characters are always heroes.
This is by far my favourite sub-story in the fallout series
These are the videos that make me love fallout more! ❤️
It seems that Fallout lore videos are dying off :(
Dude this channel is awesome keep up the good work
Imagine the plottwist that the children of Atom are actually worshipping an eldritch being but under a different name hence some cultists are fully immune to radiation
I really enjoyed this, you went above and beyond putting all the pieces together from all the games.
i like this quote from synonymous "doom to walk the earth until they find unrelenting force", because synonymous knows it's connected to elder scrolls lore :3
Ug-Qualtoth is imo the best part of Fallout lore and one of the only things that doesn't feel like its been bastardized like many other things in the series. Thanks for the video it was great
Great stuff, I really hope we get more of this lore. Definitely one of the most intriguing side lore story's if not the best.
@@barkbuck5521 Also the talking head easter egg in fallout 2 or fallout 1 i forget which
That head has been seen since Morrowwind in Bethesda Games. The thing is, it always feels purposely placed. Dwemmer Ruins, The Bottom of a Well, on the sides of buildings in New Vegas, sides of the Boston Highschool. I think it's more than a coincidence.
likely just reusing assets, but in lore I could see it as the Eldritch Entities affecting the mind of artists like Hasteur and the Yellow Sign.
@@1313puredragon I doubt it's reusing assets. The face can be seen on the enclave oil rig. That was long before Bethesda owned the series. There's something significant about the stone faces.
Great stuff, as usual. A lot of the lore, this bit included, is more interesting that the core storyline. As I haven't yet played 4, I was unaware there was more than the Dunwich Building/Point Lookout connection. Keep up the great work, and have a good week.
Since you haven't played 4 I assume you haven't played 76. That game takes things to the next level. I won't spoil anything but if you like the dunwich stuff 76 is worth playing for that alone.
@@donnywilliams9494 Yeah, haven't touched it yet- was interested at first, then there was the whole "it's broken" shit-show; figured I'd wait for however long it took to make it playable, before I dove in. Thing is, I haven't heard anything out of that camp for a while, and aren't therefore any wiser to it's current status of playability. Know something I don't on that front? I'd be interested. Also, funnily enough, due to the online aspect of the game, I kinda figured the lore was going to take the biggest hit- so you've got me interested in that regard. Let me know what you think.
@@hewlett-packardlovecraft2297 Been two years so no clue if you're still around, but word is it's more than playable nowadays
ok, i get the whole chosen to be ghoulified by the elder god, but that can't be the only way ghouls become because of moria from fallout 3 she is defiantly pure of heart and i wouldnt see why the elder god would choose her then
I believe Moira could be tricked into worshipping, much like Jaime (he has very evil karma but was shocked when the raiders killed a family for food, Ug-Qualtoth made him evil and could do the same to Moira) likely she would be enticed through the opportunity to research the deity but ultimately would be consumed by it.
@@Synonymous101 smart idea
I took one look at that evil knife and then threw it away, swimming out, and leaving the place as fast as I could.
I just LOVE how atmospheric Blackhall Manor is and Point Lookout in general
that "sleeping giant". is actually the same bust statue that is on most the buildings in the cities of fallout 4. someone recorded doing a no clip and explored the eye in the dunwitch quarry. it is just a reused asset of the statues. but it is probably supposed to represent something els. even if it is just the exact same face that you see on most buildings in the cities...
I've always been a fan of these guys Cthulhu Mythos issue type stuff is always the best
I hope in the next Fallout game they utilize a plotline/story arc that is heavily Eldritch/Dunwich Horror themed and it would be amazing if it was emphasized that these Old Ones were responsible or at least played a significant hand in the Great War, perhaps even instigating it if not directly caused it
Creepy! And fascinating to think that Uq-Qualtoth might be a god of radiation in some fashion. Nice recap of the lore across the games!
Maybe he's Atom
I'm glad they are expanding on this in Fallout 76. It's a very unique and creepy story for Fallout.
I'm genuinely confused how people didn't connect Dunwich borers with Dunwich (the town from Horrible Phobias Lovecrafts worst nightmares)
The more on-the-nose Lovecraftian themes that were included in Fallout 3, and onward, are spoopy fun and I hope that Bethesda continues these side-plots in a future, single-player Fallout game.
Always a good day when you post a video
I think the best part of how well Bethesda played off this storyline is how the writers managed to capture the terror of the unknown and our own natural curiosity to poke our heads into that terror just to find out what it is
Just subscribed yesterday so I'm really happy to have more content so soon :D What a nice moment!
Welcome aboard! 😁👍
there's a mod for Fallout 4 called children of ug-qualtoth that adds a decent amount of stuff, but mostly amazing lore and ambiance. you find the entire area under the abandoned church in the glowing sea, and it is a very fun location to play through.
Another interesting bit likely related to ug-qualtoth or maybe some other outer god is the ancient city the immortal archaeologist dude with the scarab crown found in the Arabian desert. It’s an obvious reference to The Nameless City so I assume they’re connected.
Bethesda should have made it to where a bad or even neutral karma character gets a game over if they try to destroy the book.
Yes! 🎉 Always love ur lore videos
Great, I just went through the Dunwich building in 3 today without knowing the story, and it was an experience I was hoping to forget. I didn't think this video would make sure I remember it forever

You'd be great to give the 76 cryptids a shot in my opinion!
This is the story I want to see in a show or movie
I was always so curious about this lore. Thanks for this vid, it's a super interesting bit of content in the fallout universe
I find it curious that in many of the Commonwealth buildings of Fallout 4, the chrome godlike statues within them seem to mirror the style of craftsmanship on the sleeping giant…
I wonder what the enclave would think of the krivbeknih.
I love this video so much, ive seen it like a dozen times already.
Would love to know more about Fallout's Old Ones and Outer Gods.
My favorite part in Any media...
*Lovecraft.*
Awesome video as always brother! Great to see your channel at almost 100k subs, well deserved 👏
This is why me and the boys worship Hastur The Unamable/the King in Yellow cause my boy highly respects and protects his worshippers
Relatively uncovered story, I'm glad you made a video on it!
I always thought the “sleeping giant” that you described is just an ancient statue. The top of an old temple. The style of which is seen on the buildings around town. Seems to hint that the influence of the ancients was more widespread than first glance would show.
I think synonymous is possibly the best fallout lore youtuber since thnapple

Abdullah AL Hazred is one of the most controversial case in the Arabic culture, he was a black magic magician who allegedly wrote a book on black magic and he claimed he wrote it by the tongue of the Satan.
The book has vanished and the man himself vanished as well, no one knows what happened to him.
I'm going to read into this, sounds interesting!
Dude your videos are so accurate. Oxhorn missed so much lore.
