I think if instead of killing the sacrifices they just kept them in a hidden portion of the vault, never allowed to see anyone else ever again (or until they decide to stop sending people) that it would've been exceptionally interesting. Like you have the one experiment where you're watching people sacrifice each other and then you have the other side where the people who were sacrificed realized it was all a sham but have no way of telling the people above.
So the people who got "sacrificed" would be safe and sound but the other side of the vault where people weren't sacrificed are having a revolution and killing each other, it would be pretty ironic and sad
The logs regarding the first overseer (or "first sacrifice") are honestly chilling. The thought of some leading figure (the overseer) being forced down a long passage leading to his death, wheeping all the way, just gives me a sick feeling. Horrific, yet brilliantly written, vault.

Vault 11. The most interesting, as well as atrocious vault in New Vegas. This was probably one of Vault Techs cruelest experiments on people. As well as what it tells us about humanity in the Fallout world.
It tells us that we should honestly be happy for the fallout, seeing as America's rulers were far more cruel then anything the wasteland could throw at us.
It's only atrocious because it shows without a doubt that humans are shit, and humans really dislike the realization. This was one of the safest, most straight forward experimental vault, but literally a conglomerate of humans fucked it up hardcore, the first generation could have passed the test if you they had any semblance of empathy. Excellent vault imo but the least actual evil one.
@@lasarousi Ironic isn't it? How the vault that took empathy to overcome became the most atrocious, while the most atrocious vault became one of the best due to empathy(vault 81).
It tells us a lot about how evil Vault Tec was and how far the US government had fallen that they were trusting Vault Tec with the survival of their citizens.
I always visit this vault in my playthroughs of New Vegas because it's my absolute favorite. Also: the way the Vault-Tec "Happy Trails" slideshow ends with "Imagine what joys await you in the afterlife. Can you see them? Good." followed immediately by the screen shutting down and the doors sliding open to either side always makes my heart jump every time. And the fact that the recording for their refusal says "Here at Vault-Tec, your safety is our number one priority" is so absurd I always chuckle to myself because of how ridiculous that claim is, seeing all the other vault experiments as well as this one.
Something that's always kinda bugged me though, is the method of execution. It's weird that the executions were actually planned to happen when the vault was only meant to be a social experiments, and it's weird that the method itself is overwhelming firepower, instead of something like gas or an electric chair.
it somewhat lore friendly, like a lazy way to close off the experiment. i can imagine 2 vault tec engineers thinking about using gas or an electric chair, but realizing the gas might expire or leak, an electric chair requires maintainece and a vault dweller would have to manually go down there and reset the death machine, then why wouldn't the vault dweller disable device entirely? robots and a slide door seem to be the cheapest and laziest way to go about it since its going to take robots to remove the body anyways
First time I saw this vault, I kept thinking there would be a secret section of the vault that the sacrifices were sent to live in, unable to communicate with the original side. That the two sides would be studied to see how the "sacrifice" side developed as a society. Would they be angry? Bitter? Or would they be relieved that they no longer had to live with this fear over their heads? I was a bit disappointed when I got to the end of the vault and found that the sacrifices were indeed killed.

It would be awesome to have the last surviving vault dweller as the sole surviver of a future title. The Character would have an awesome backstory and a more noble reason to do the right thing.
One of my favorite parts of New Vegas, such an amazing example of stellar writing - multi-layered metaphors and satire, with a lot of horror sauce. Damn, I miss old Obsidian
This would make an excellent thriller film or TV series, I remember exploring this vault & finding some of the terminals, notes & other clues laying around. But didn't realise how messed up the events actually were. I just remember how it all ended. Damn I'd actually love to see a series where every episode is a different vault then have the second season be about the survivors of those vaults dealing with all the events in the wasteland. Ie: the master, the purifier, the brotherhood & fanatic children of atom.
@@CallofFreaky It looks like season 2 is going to follow the events after New Vegas. But I still think they should introduce some new characters and have flashback episodes of their time in the vaults.
Encountered this vault by chance just a couple of hours ago. Going in, I was excited considering I had pretty much nothing to do and was getting bored. Going out... I felt kinda hollow, man. There's been some pretty awful stuff I've seen in the wasteland, but I guess with how well this was shown through documentation and environmental storytelling it really hit home.
This vault would be a great first episode for the new TV show as it would be a great introduction to the wasteland if a vault dweller that thinks that are a sacrifice wake up outside and looking at a super mutant vs a member of the legion
Probably my favorite vault, and an amazing bit of environmental storytelling. It was so tricky to piece together the first time. But it was so rewarding. That being said, there are some theories that No-Bark Noonan of Novac was the vault's lone survivor. I think maybe Oxhorn's video on the vault discusses it. One of the voices sounds just like him, and such a traumatic event could explain why he's gone so crazy.
I really wish we could continue the story of the lone survivor of Vault 11. Hell, it'd be a great beginning for a very distant prequel to Vegas or some other Fallout game. The new "lone survivor" exits Vault 11, introducing him to the horrors of the wasteland. His story continues.. Eh, that's just my fanfiction for another fallout game. Can't say it'd be great, but interesting nonetheless.
My headcanon was always that it was the omdbudsman who was the sole survivor from Vault 11. Seeing that he was selected to be the middleman for all the Blocs it makes sense that he'd be spared/ignored in the crossfire; and in his terminal he constantly questions the point of "all of this" and wanting to share their story in the hopes that others could learn.
My first thought about this vault was "What would happen when it was just a few people left?". My first reaction to the test was to just accept the immediate loss to avoid the fate of being the last 1 or worse last 2 and having to force the other down the vault without killing them.
It's crazy how the developers structured the lore for this vault, you have to piece the story together on your own and thoroughly explore the place to find every bit of info This game came out 11 years ago and this is just a small fraction of what the game has to offer, idk it's just baffles me
I think the last survivor is No-Bark, after leaving Vault 11, he was stung by bark scorpions from the dry lake and surrounding area, and local hunters brought him to Novac to nurse his wounds.
@@Synonymous101 sorry I’m late, but where did it say vault 11 reopened soon after the bombs fell? It might as well opened a couple of decades after the 2200s

Ayy, I was looking for something to watch, great timing! I've always liked this vault and the story it tells. One of the most iconic ones in the series in my opinion, it feels very Fallout.
I love the horror esque feel of that place. It's a post-apocalyptic wasteland we need more of that. The metros in Fallout 3 gave a good creepy vibe that needs to be brought back.
Fun fact. The man with the gruff voice around 8:06 talking to Roy of the Justice Block is Steve Blum. He has voiced A LOT of people in games and cartoons. Including Spike Spiegel in Cowbow Bebop, Orochimaru in Naruto/Boruto, Wolverine in the X-Men cartoons/games and Capt. Bartlett in Ace Combat 5.
Realistically in a situation like this, instead of electing someone as overseer to sacrifice, the vault would instead vote for someone based on whether or not they are productive, or constantly getting into serious trouble. Maybe they'd even sacrifice the elderly that are weak and feeble as well.
I never played a Fallout game, but I love the lore behind it and being narrated like you do makes it even more interesting. I would love to watch more about the Vaults lores. Keep up the good work :D
You know the best thing? When you enter the vault for the first time you found that log and 4 skeleton thinking the fifth guy kills the rest but when you exit the door that whole perspective changed.
This was such a great experience going in blind. From the campaign posters implying the position was a punishment, to that final walk down to the room.
For fellow COD Zombies fans in the audience: If one of those voices in the justice bloc recording sounds familiar, it's because Steve Blum voices the guy who is apprehensive to the coup, who also voices Tank Dempsey, both of them sound exactly the same.
I like vault 11 but it made me realize that no one thought of their limited numbers. At some point it will come to an end unless they become monsters by having kids just to sacrifice them
all things considered the vaults were only temporary homes, given a decade or two the outside world would be somewhat habitable again. So if you bought into the idea you had to sacrifice someone every year, there's enough people to slaughter for several decades.
That's essentially what vault tec had in mind from the start, a population that continues to sacrifice till they can no longer produce the numbers to sustain the cycle eventually they would have to swap partners in order to keep up with the demand, eventual inbreeding would happen along with them still killing off thier kind till they had some tribal understanding of killing off one per year, almost at if it was based off how the Aztecs would sacrifice for the sun god

Now, it's been a while, but I was pretty sure the first overseer went to his death willingly, and the rest of the vault found out about the sacrifice from his terminal.
exploring your way through vault 11 and uncovering the story piece by piece is a masterclass in storytelling. beginning with the 4 bodies at the vault door and hearing the final holotape at the start, only to go through the twists and turns of uncovering the story bit by bit, then entering the chamber and seeing the dark turn of the death room presentation, blasting your way through survival, only to re-listen to the final tapes as you crawl back up towards the surface with all the newfound context of the vault's story. Haunting.
When I first encountered this vault years ago, I had to read and listen to those logs twice. When I finally put the pieces together, it was horrifying and sad at the same time. Amazing writting of Fallout New Vegas.
With how sadistic Vault-Tec is, it wouldn’t surprise me they knew this was going to happen and purposely made that voiceover super cheery and congratulatory for no other reason than to twist the knife into the remaining survivors

It would have been much smarter if Vault-Tec had built a secondary facility for the "sacrifices". That way they could study isolation and trust issues, seeing what kind of society grew as the sacrifices were led there. Maybe giving them the chance to monitor the Wasteland to see whether it was safe to leave would also help
God the fact that they kept doing this until a huge fight broke out years later and we're left with 5 people really shows how uneasy these experiments are, especially if only the vault overseer knew, I just wanna know why they didn't just go against it from the get go, like there had to be SOME people against the idea of a sacrifice
Seeing as sacrifices were not necessary I'm surprised the vault actually killed them, would have thought they'd just be released into the wasteland or something
This vault is my absolute favorite, the social horror, the tragedy, the heartbreak and how far someone will go for someone they love is sensational, this vault is a tragic masterpiece, whoever thought of this vault is a genius, you can feel Catherine's feelings throught the audio logs and the atmosphere of that tunnel is to die for (literally if you dont have an emp gun)

He was supposed to be a follower you can recruit but they got cut out
It would be awesome to have the last surviving vault dweller as the sole surviver of a future title.
If the Fallout TV show is successful then the Vault 11 story would make a cool little spin-off limited series.
I definitely hope the fallout series has some episodes that follow the vault experiments rather than the usual cast
I read this and my mind instantly "Are you ready to ruuummblllle!!"
Katherine went through like a steam train
Probably my favorite vault, and an amazing bit of environmental storytelling. It was so tricky to piece together the first time. But it was so rewarding.
That being said, there are some theories that No-Bark Noonan of Novac was the vault's lone survivor. I think maybe Oxhorn's video on the vault discusses it. One of the voices sounds just like him, and such a traumatic event could explain why he's gone so crazy.
This was always how I interpreted it. I believe it is the same voice actor and it fills in his back story.
@@gueditogueyHonestly you can't use same VA for much in New Vegas. Far too many reoccurring voices
"If you want to see the fate of Democracies just look out the windows." Robert House.
@@naturalist10000 "That's an interesting theory you got there..."
All jokes aside, that'd definitely be possible.
Great idea 💡
that's a hundred times better then how Bethesda likes to start a story...
The main quest "The meaning of life"
Objective:Find a purpose
My first thought about this vault was "What would happen when it was just a few people left?". My first reaction to the test was to just accept the immediate loss to avoid the fate of being the last 1 or worse last 2 and having to force the other down the vault without killing them.
It's crazy how the developers structured the lore for this vault, you have to piece the story together on your own and thoroughly explore the place to find every bit of info
This game came out 11 years ago and this is just a small fraction of what the game has to offer, idk it's just baffles me
Man the ending is the most depressing part of this bleak story.
Great summary, sometimes it's confusing to go through the lore pieces out of order!
I think the last survivor is No-Bark, after leaving Vault 11, he was stung by bark scorpions from the dry lake and surrounding area, and local hunters brought him to Novac to nurse his wounds.
I hear that all the time but don't agree as the time difference would make him over 200 years old, personally I think No-Bark is the Chosen One.
@@Synonymous101 bold of you to assume No-bark isn’t immortal
@@neurosect1983 that would explain how he's still alive, shame I've seen him die though 😅
@@Synonymous101 sorry I’m late, but where did it say vault 11 reopened soon after the bombs fell? It might as well opened a couple of decades after the 2200s
@@gunargundarson1626 the vault door opened after 17 years, even if Nobark entered as a child he would be way to old to still be alive when we start the game
Ayy, I was looking for something to watch, great timing!
I've always liked this vault and the story it tells. One of the most iconic ones in the series in my opinion, it feels very Fallout.
Would you consider doing a video on the ghosts in the Sierra Madre
You know it always surprises me some of the stories of the vaults man they would make a good mini series or TV show
8:16
Can't believe Spike Spiegal ended up in Vault 11, I guess his fate in Cowboy Bebop is confirmed alive until this point.
Realistically in a situation like this, instead of electing someone as overseer to sacrifice, the vault would instead vote for someone based on whether or not they are productive, or constantly getting into serious trouble. Maybe they'd even sacrifice the elderly that are weak and feeble as well.
That would be most efficient
That’s basically who become overseer
I never played a Fallout game, but I love the lore behind it and being narrated like you do makes it even more interesting. I would love to watch more about the Vaults lores. Keep up the good work :D
You know the best thing? When you enter the vault for the first time you found that log and 4 skeleton thinking the fifth guy kills the rest but when you exit the door that whole perspective changed.
This was such a great experience going in blind. From the campaign posters implying the position was a punishment, to that final walk down to the room.
Imagine an episode from the new Fallout TV show being about Vault 11. I doubt it but would be nice to see.
These videos give me the feeling of when I first played Fallout 3, great work!
Vault 11 be like: "I'm going to make the Stanford prison experiment look like a fucking joke"
Lmao 😅
For fellow COD Zombies fans in the audience: If one of those voices in the justice bloc recording sounds familiar, it's because Steve Blum voices the guy who is apprehensive to the coup, who also voices Tank Dempsey, both of them sound exactly the same.
Turkey,ham, and synonymous??I think yes👍🏻👍🏻

Awesome video, your style helps convey the horror of the vault and reminds me why I enjoy the franchise so much.
I like vault 11 but it made me realize that no one thought of their limited numbers. At some point it will come to an end unless they become monsters by having kids just to sacrifice them
Yeah that's what I was thinking too
little Jim didn't make his bed off to be sacrificed!
all things considered the vaults were only temporary homes, given a decade or two the outside world would be somewhat habitable again.
@@bignut8466 false. The plan was for them to deny ever sacrificing anyone 10:58 as if they had chosen not to sacrifice anyone they wouldn’t need to do anything
As always, thanks for this amazing video Synonymous. Amazing as always.
The First Vault I learned about and still my Favorite
It's written so well you feel really creeped down there and learn more and more how everything happened
Amazing
Almost at a 100k man! Your content is great and you deserve a million subs.
Thanks 😁👍
That ending of the projected movie and the tone of the voice was so creepy "Can you see them ?... Good..." it sounded so ominous.
Then they are turned to Swiss cheese by a bunch of killer robots, and they’re remains were just strewn aside. Barbaric stuff….
Now, it's been a while, but I was pretty sure the first overseer went to his death willingly, and the rest of the vault found out about the sacrifice from his terminal.
I think you missed the note from the vault ombudsman.
My memory has lied to me before as well. Lol. Evil vault tech employees are rarely if ever self-sacrificing.
exploring your way through vault 11 and uncovering the story piece by piece is a masterclass in storytelling. beginning with the 4 bodies at the vault door and hearing the final holotape at the start, only to go through the twists and turns of uncovering the story bit by bit, then entering the chamber and seeing the dark turn of the death room presentation, blasting your way through survival, only to re-listen to the final tapes as you crawl back up towards the surface with all the newfound context of the vault's story. Haunting.
Easily my favorite vault story. It's gripping and very realistic.
Imagine if they just said no right as they were told to sacrifice someone and the plan failed from day one
Beautifully done as always
Love your content man, been bingeing it all week.
When I first encountered this vault years ago, I had to read and listen to those logs twice. When I finally put the pieces together, it was horrifying and sad at the same time.
Amazing writting of Fallout New Vegas.
Brilliant way of telling a story through game. I don't think we won't feel same dread if we had watched same story as blackmirror episode.
Wow. These channel is amazing man... Seriously. Such great stories....
New Vegas really had some of the best side quests and stories
This is one of my favourite vaults. The ones inspired by real philosophies and/or experiments are very cool in my opinion.
With how sadistic Vault-Tec is, it wouldn’t surprise me they knew this was going to happen and purposely made that voiceover super cheery and congratulatory for no other reason than to twist the knife into the remaining survivors
I am a new comer to the franchise, and you my friend are one hell of a story teller... I have been listening to your videos all morning and I just found your channel.. take my sub and my likes and fast travel away
Welcome aboard! 😁👍
Excellent video. Tragic vault. But the writing behind the vault is great
Thank you for the video! I was not expecting one so fast after the poll you sent out!
Thank you very much for producing this content. You brought me back to the fallout world and, after 10 years or so, I’m playing fallout again and enjoying the experience as if it was new
I would personally love to see a video about the zetans. They've appeared several times, and i would love to know more about them.
Alright a new video! I already know it’s going to be amazing!
I swear my guy. Always love the way you make these videos interesting.
Looking foward to more vault videos!
My favorite vault in the whole series.
I feel like this particular story could make a good movie/series
Mass riots
Seeing as sacrifices were not necessary I'm surprised the vault actually killed them, would have thought they'd just be released into the wasteland or something
Damn what just fell asleep listening to your video then you uploaded another one? Love your content man
This story really got my spurs jingling and jangling, thanks for sharing it, partner!
I counted 15 skeletons in the sacrificial chamber, although I think they went 15 years before the end of the vault eventually happened.
Why are you asking us whether or not you think that? I don’t know, only you do
@@garrett2716 grammar mistake, my bad.
Ah yes this killed me so much times my first playthrough, great content thanks.
I always thought that this was one of the best written stories in a computer game, let alone one of the best vaults ever written. A heartbreakingly well made story.

Why Spike spiegel getting instagated by Cyborg? Lol
Real life is getting closer to fallout
This is kinda random but I can't be the only one who wishes there was a mod for hoi4 or something that takes place before the great war. Maybe you could try to calm the crisis and use nuclear power for civilian and power use or go down the fallout timeline until there's total Armageddon.
Idk, it won't happen but it's a cool thought.
