You did really well~ Ask's lighting is her strongest feature and she clearly has studied light physics a lot, so if you want to get more good studies out of her work, I'd dedicate time to learning light physics too. ' v '
I mastered light physics but still working on learning anatomy properly because if u look at one drawing twice, then there is a chance I'll spot a mistake somewhere
@@hanacue Hello hana! I love your art, do you have lots of seperate layers (e.g for diff parts of the body/shadow/details/bg etc) or tend to paint everything on very few layers when doing the "cleaning + redrawing + adding detail" stage?
i think another big thing in ask's artstyle is the lineart, which is colored differently/lowered opacity. it gives their art a more translucent and clean type of feel
yeah, my guess is either she colors her lineart by each color, or has the lineart layer(s) colored one color and set to multiply, then lowered opacity a bit.
You did really well! but i think that one thing you missed is the way that ASK Colors the lineart, a little darker in lighter areas and a little brighter in darker areas.
It floors me that you can study a picture and actually understand from it. I struggle with this, as I have no idea how to "study" from the art itself. That being said, I think you did an amazing job with capturing the style of the lineart
Simple styles are usually harder to draw well in, because shape, posing and lineart becomes very important. A lot of people clutter their art with a lot of effects, shades and colors, making it look impressive, but the basics still lack. If you can make something look good with just lineart and a basic color (no shading), then you've made a lot of progress.
@@Daltemir1 huh yk ur kindda right Ig.. cause I sometimes see art that have some cool effects but when I see the line art, colours and facial features they look unfinished or not re done to make it smoother
I have people around saying my art is good and I always tell them I am still finding ways to improve. I see stuffs like your shorts or other artists' videos and still finding ways to improve, which inspires me more.
Not bad actually. I know from experience the more you put this in practice the cleaner your style will be. I'm more of a traditional artist, but I hope to also produce my version of polished digital art.
Style swap/studies are SO GREAT and help me improve and appreciate things that I never thought about before~ 😱 (It also helps me know which things I hate-- like soft shading!! XD).
try to minimise the amount of strokes used for each line. If a line can be reduced to one stroke whilst keeping(if not enhancing) the energy of that line, do it. You can practice this by reducing the amount of times you rely on your eraser and by taking a second or two(probably less) to decide exactly what kind of line you're going for and then stick to that. Then make the stroke, undo and repeat until the stroke creates the line that you 're roughly going for. If you have trouble visualising the line, you can "ghost" the stroke that you're going for instead. It's basically just "drawing" the line without having the pen touch the tablet yet and when you're sure that you found the stroke/line you want to go for, you just repeat the same movement without any hesitation with the pen actually touching the tablet this time. There are more specific exersises for lineart, but I'm honestly too lazy to explain them and also too lazy to find good tutorials on it 💀 PS: Your art is pretty 💃
Like I know anything about light and how that effects the entire drawing. I love your art. I think you reached your goal, but definitely study light a lot more to see what is missing and what more you can do with it. I subscribed to watch your progress and learn alongside you. You inspired me to follow the same challenge. Keep improving!
You did it very well, when I see the image I knew it was ASK art style (I didn't read the title). There are things you could have copy from ASK that could have improve in even more (like the way he renders the hair, the scheme of colors or how he use the background to complement the drawing). But there are others that you did wonderfully like using the another color at the edge of the shadow, the style of the eyes, the same proportions of the face, the lines at the edge of the highlight, the acent colors. Good job! The drawing is amazing.
as someone who is totally new to your channel or style of art, i think it'll be really cool to add your study vs how you would draw it in your own style! just to see how much you've challenged or how out of your comfort zone each study was :D
Uhmmmm I love this idea! I've been working on developing my style and think this kind of study is fantastic. So excited to see others doing it (crediting of course!) - I love this type of play/practice, and it looks wonderful!
For super-clean line art, there's a trick to doing it with shape brushes in a vector art program like Illustrator. A bit tedious, but it gives exact control over line weighting over the length of the pen or brush stroke. Been ages since I messed with that technique, but it's definitely possible. (Not bad here, but it goes next-level for digital inking depending on the time put in.)
I suggest looking for your Ask's interviews as well! In one interview or something of sort, she said she doesn't do lineart. It's baffling because looking at her works, it's like she does linearts but looking closely, you can see that her lines only appear at parts that need total separation (ex. subject from the background, hair's silhouette, etc). You'll observe too that she relies heavily on contrast and solid coloring
Hana's art have been improving my art style since i usually loved Kooleen's art more but i loved Hana's art style just as i started looking at her arts! But still have trouble drawing in my tablet since i got sick mostly because of depression and I've been in the hospital for a long time so i still have unstraight lines.
You did great, I really liked seeing your process and style analysis! I like Joe you mentioned pulling back in certain areas in order to highlight the face, that’s a nice technique!
You did so wonderfully on the hair and the thickness on the arms You also made the clothes look very flowy and pretty with the lineart, there are some places that ended a bit sketchy, but hey it happens lol I think you captured the overall flow of the lineart and that’s what matters! Yes you did so well! It definitely inspires other people like myself to learn how to do line art better lol
