  • The Nu Metal era was without doubt one of the most unique & interesting aspects of the evolution of metal music. It contributed greatly to the death of grunge, particularly after the mid 90s with the passing of Kurt Cobain.
    #Mudvayne #Documentary
Korn, Limp Bizkit, Slipknot and Deftones are often cited as the main players during this time, although there are arguments for Slipknot and Deftones especially as to whether they were indeed Nu-Metal or not. Then we have more of what you could call a subset of Nu-Metal artists that lurked in the underground.
American Head Charge, Coal Chamber, Static X and Godsmack. They had somewhat of a more industrial and experimental edge to their sound. One group of musicians hailing from Illinois, however, would combine musical experimentation with one of the strangest looks of the era.

I really wish they would have stuck closer to their LD50 sound on following records. They became more and more radio friendly on each following album. They never should have dropped the makeup. I really didn't vibe with their look on the second album. The whole alien thing just didn't connect with me ascetically. @buddykaiser2380 Місяць тому

@@bophadeeznutz sure, bands evolve...and in this case it was for the worse. Thats why the band fell apart and it's why when they came back they donned their original makeup etc.
I didn't say they shouldn't experiment but they should have stuck closer to their original core sound. I will say their last album was a bit of a return to form but by then people didn't really care. There's a reason why the vast majority of people will tell you their first album is their best by far. They could have experimented while still being brutal but they chose to lighten their sound to appeal to a wider audience and that worked for a little bit but in the long run its not what the fans wanted. They don't have to make music for the fans but that also means the fans don't have to like it. Fans just stopped going to their shows as much as well as internal stuff but it mostly came down to them staying relevant.

Are you kidding? Dig was cool. But the end of all things to come is when mudvayne proved they had talent and style when it came to writing music. I guess it depends on what you like tho, I like my music more complex as I spent many years being a musician myself and whether the fans of LD50 liked it or not I understand why mudvayne became more complex and experimental. Because it’s interesting and fun.

@@donaldhavasy2356 I'd argue that LD 50 was more complex musically than any of their later stuff. They became more palettable after LD 50 imo. Thats not to say that they didn't have songs that were still a little complex but imo they wrote more simplified songs a lot more on their other albums. I will admit that I prefer bands to stay closer to their original core sound for the most part. That doesn't mean that they can't try things but overall I prefer when a band comes out heavy AF they remain that way. I did like their last album more than everything following LD 50. I felt like it was a return to their earlier sound. This is definitely my problem. I guess I don't like too much change lol.

Man, I remember trading Linkin Park album for LD50, because once I heard Dig, I was hooked. Listen to that album nonstop to the point where my CD was worn out. LD50 is still my favorite by Mudvanye, I finally got to see them last on their headlining show, man, it was everything I wanted from them. 23 years of listening to them, and wasn't disappointed one bit. Hope we get to hear music from them soon. 🤞🤞

When it came to metal back in the day, there was a lot of good artists like corn, slipknot, Deftones, but when it came to raw talent innovation, nobody knew their instruments better than Mudvayne, their bass player was, and still is crazy talented guy. Mudvayne was to metal like Tool is to rock.

I remember my local cd shop had a deal 4 album cd for 29.99 and I got slipknot self titled, pantera vulgar,a random rap cd can't even remember who it was cause after one listen it never got played again and then this album LD50. Needless to say all 3 of the heavy albums got played and still do

Don't forget, Hellyeah also had the then current Bassist for Nothinface who was former Danzig Bassist. Dude was an embarrassment and got drunk at the first album release party, threatened Vinny Paul, and got kicked out of Hellyeah and Nothingface all at the same time. If you like Mudvayne, you'll like Nothingface. Check em out. Always wanted them to get back together, but sadly the lead singer Matt Holt died in 2017. Dude had all the talent and is very similar to Chad Grey with vocals, maybe even a bit better at doing what Chad Grey did.

Those were the best underground nu-metal bands you could come up with?? 😆😅😂 Go check out the album "Gently Unraveling", by .click. That one combines the best elements from every one of these artists you mentioned...Or check out "A Cold Breathe Of What It Takes", by Syx. Or how about "Draw The Line", by Endface or "Dylate", by Etched In Red. What about bands like Prozak Staple, Fear The Clown, 8 Degrees, Vacant Stare, [Feik], Coilbox, Stepa, Pressure 4-5, Design19, Gridlokt, Centox, Ultraspank, No One, Relative Ash, No December, Boiler Room, Flybanger, Pulse Ultra, or even higher-tiered ones like Nothingface, Flaw, IL Nino, Spineshank, 40 Below Summer, Dry Kill Logic, Sunk Loto, Lifer, Blindspott, Taproot, Cold, etc etc?? You need to do your research next time because you barely scratched the surface of nu-metal and made Mudvayne seem more relevant than they actually were in the grand scheme of things. Deftones, Korn, Mudvayne, and Slipknot were the popular ones, but there were so many underground nu-metal acts in existence in other countries even before Deftones and Korn. You guys need to stop using Wikipedia as your guide to nu-metal 😆😅😂

Why no mention of Mudvayne's subsequent albums 'The New Game' and the self-titled last album? Also, I think its important to note that the bands switch from the more complex, layered musicality to the watered-down 'mainstream' sound that happened on Lost And Found and later releases, really detracted from Mudvayne's allure and overall quality.
I can understand a band wanting to expand their success, but I feel they didn't add much of anything to their sound once they took that jump....

Back in the day.. there was a magazine that you could order CDs through.. I believe it was BMG Music. It had promplos or whatever to where you could buy 1 CD and get 7 free or buy 1 get 10 CDs for 1 copper penny $.01 🤷‍♂️
At the young age of 15 pretending to be 46 year old Jim Bob. 😅😅 in the early 2000s.
Anyways.. I found my "NU" 😉 favorite music that wasn't Alice In Chains.. Pantera.. through this such as ....
    👉👉 Orgy : Candyass .. Staind : Dysfunction .. KORN : KORN .. LINKIN PARK : HYBRID THEORY .. INCUBUS : MAKE YOURSELF and yes.. MUDVAYNE : LD50.
AND HERE ARE.. 30+ YEARS LATER AND IT'S STILL THE BEST GENRE EVER!
