@@RAWMUSICTV Such a surreal crazy memory. My friend's band Akuzma was opening for Static-X in San Antonio, TX, and before the show, I smoked a pipe with them behind the venue, Backstage Live. In the dark, I thought I was smoking pot until I tasted black tar heroin. I was floored at the time and his subsequent overdose mindfucked me further.
I was friends with Wayne in high school. He was exactly the opposite of what you would think. He had longer black hair that was always combed perfectly and wore nice sweaters. Quite possibly the cleanest teenager I've ever met. Very polite and all the teachers loved him. He was quiet but could definitely get up to some mischief. He could get away with anything. It was kind of shocking to see him as Wayne Static. I was never really into that music but will always love him for the time I knew him.
cool man thanks for sharing, he was a great role model for me growing up as a kid and his music got me through some hard times when i was a naive teenager
I went to school with him too. Travis... didn't he put your head in the toilet and flush it several times earning you the moniker Toiletface Travis? I remember you , it's such a small world. How's things been going dude? Did you ever get rid of that nasty infection?
I saw Static X open for Megadeth on Halloween night in 2000. I went to see Megadeth and had no idea who Static X was. Since it was Halloween lots of the crowd were in costumes. Static X came out with Kiss makeup on & the theater exploded with energy when they started with Push It. I`d never heard anything like them before and it changed my life. I was blown away by their sound and live show. I barely remember Megadeth afterwards. Static X has been my favorite band ever since and changed my music preferences forever. I never met Wayne but his passing saddened me in a way no other celebrity has. RIP Wayne, I will forever miss your music.
Man I was twelve when I learned of Pac, 14 Layne Stanley, I heard about em later, last year my 6 year old came to me crying about juice world. I felt that.
Same happened to me when I went to my first concert and Breaking Benjamin opened for 3 days grace, evenecence, and disturbed. I was is the first row of the mosh area as a 17 year old winning the tickets from the radio. I was with my cousin. And we left with more bruises and good memories than we possibly thought possible!
Thanks for this history! Here’s more info! Before Wayne and Kenny moved to LA, they were in a band called Stygian and I saw them play in Chicago (we had mutual friends.) I said they should join me out in LA and did give Ken and Wayne a place to crash while we formed Drill. Drill was cool, but eventually I bailed because I felt a bit limited musically…although I still loved the guys. Besides playing on sessions like Power Rangers 😊, I did go on to play with an unknown singer called Rod Stewart for over a decade and counting. I will always remember Wayne as an intelligent, articulate, soft spoken and creative guy and nothing like the F bomb dropping public persona.
This album, to me, has one thing in common with all the following music: the Anti-Christ superstar album, Rammstein, Rob Zombie, Ministry, Filter and NiN The one thing that binds them together is industrial, and the fact that I never considered any of them Nü metal. People seem to have a very vague idea of Nü metal, and while I couldn’t explain the genre in musical terms I was always able to distinguish Nü metal from industrial metal (Nü industrial would work better to distinguish itself), and Nü metal from rap core. There seems to be no such boundary for others
If Limp Bizkit or Primer 55 are Nü metal, then Nü metal is an umbrella term and on top of that ICP has made Nü metal songs, and have done it Better than Limp Bizkit, like Primer 55, who are just Limp Bizkit if they were better at either genre they’re tryna put together
Isn’t it interesting how the genre was ridiculed and how people stereotyped Nü metal bands into one either different genre or sub genre of the sub genre, and it made a lot of people not wanna be associated
I will NEVER forget hearing ‘I’m with stupid’ for the first time and just exploding with excitement and adoration for Static-X I was 15 when they released WDT and they’ve been my favourite band ever since. Hands down the best live performance I have ever seen! Wayne will be missed forever, such a unique man
You were kinda wrong. Wayne had a lot in the Vault and it's been getting released steadily. They had a Huge Reanimated Tour where Wayne was replaced by Robo Wayne Animatronics. Usually that sounds like it would be incredibly disrespectful but it was done incredibly well.
@justinlast2lastharder749 Yeah, I know about all that I have the album, but at the time, I thought it wasn't gunna happen due to the band split being so bad before his death. I'm gunna by vol 2 as well I can't wait
1 album released and a part 2 coming up since his death, created by the remaining members of the band from his old demo tapes that they took the vocals out of and made new songs with
I met Wayne at an Ozzfest in the late 90's. Dont remember which year. He was lookin for a drink. Which is odd, because he was a metal frontman on tour, I remember wondering why in the hell he was asking me where to find a drink. Perhaps he was trying to score some dope on the downlow and I was just too young and clueless to figure out what he was getting at. Coincidently, I was going through a box of old shit from when I was a teenager recently and found his autograph on a ticket stub from that day. It jogged my mind regarding Static X.
Thanks for this awesome piece of history. My band, Mygrain, used to open for them in '97 and 98 all around LA. One correction - the band was actually known as simply "Static" until they were signed by Warner Bros. There was another band called Static and the label had them add the "X" to their name.
I saw that tour (It was Pantera's last tour if memory serves me correctly) 27:18 , in Hamilton Ontario (Canada). Morbid Angle was on the bill. I remember Slayer had their sound, they didn't sound like a supporting act.
I saw static-x live more than any other band out there. many shows. never had a bad one. Wayne always kept things fun and from becoming too serious which i completely appreciate. they would hang out by the buses after shows, talk with people, shake hands, smoke a bowl (not wayne). Ive never met a band that spent more time with the people just hanging out after shows, just super chill group of people.
The Wells were my neighbors, when I was a kid. I didn't know Wayne too well, but talked to his sister, Aimee, often. They were a really cool family and well-respected in the community.
i was lucky enough to see them in a small bar with OTEP in abilene tx. Incredibly small venue but they still played like it was a massive show and stayed and hung out with all of us after. Still one of my favorite shows ive ever been to.
Saw them open for Megadeth in 99 not too long after WDT was released. I didn’t really know who they were at the time and I was blown away. Their music was so raw and in your face but with feel and an unbelievable energy. Next day I went out and bought the album and it’s easily one of my top ten favorite albums of all time. Around 2001 they came back around on tour and had an autograph signing. I went and got my copy of WDT autographed by the band. Still have it and I’m glad I got to meet Wayne. Such a sad ending for an amazingly talented dude.
Static-X was one of my favorite NuMetal bands and yet, I never managed to see them live with the original lineup. I finally saw Wayne live in 2012. I listened to this album on loop for like 2 years, and it remains one of my favorite albums of all time. I know that I can just turn it on and lose myself in the nostalgia and memories that I had trying to find my way through life during those years. I still have it, still rock it, and love just throwing it on to remember things. I have an attachment of music to events in my life, and this album was quite succinctly a pin during a pivotal moment in my life. There are few news alerts that I remember vividly, and one of them is Wayne's passing. He's right up there with Dimebag in shock of it actually happening.
We will ALWAYS miss Wayne, he was the heart and soul of the band from the first note. I think he'd be very proud of the legacy he left behind and where Static-X is today.
I saw Static X in 1999, Tacoma Washington, when they were part of the Extreme Steel Tour, where Pantera was the headliner with Slayer as well. Imo, Static X was the best band that night. Their drummer was absolutely amazing! I had never heard of the band before but was blown away by the sound and performance.
Just saw them in Orlando and they rocked it, prob the best set I’ve ever seen. Loved WDT and used to play it on a loop in high school, looking back was my most played cd and def my fav of all time. Really liking Zero too, I know it’s some big shoes to fill but his robotic movements on stage and personality really won me over. Can’t wait til they come back to central FL, will def go again!
This is AWESOME! I saw Prong in Colorado Springs in 95. Never been to a show like that before then. It absolutely changed me. Saw Pantera not long after that. Been playing guitar 🎸 ever since. I’m sad I never got to see Static X back then. RIP Wayne. 🙏
Added a few artists on Spotify because of this video. Awesome job on the research and thank you for helping me discover music I haven't listened to before. I've always loved Static-X and RIP Wayne Static.
Got to see Wayne perform in Texas months before he died. Amazing show and performance. Shook his hand and everything. Really humble guy. Super nice and kind as well. Such a shame man. Rest easy my dude, you’re truly a legend. And your memory will continue through your band and doppelgänger.
Knew the band, never got listening them, too many bands came up during those days. Static X just fell between the space. After watching this, I think I m going to make a Wisconsin Death Trip . Thanks for a quality documentary, rest in peace Wayne .
Great documentary. I began Static ResurreXion in 2016 in honor of Wayne. I am currently working on my own album of original Static X inspired music and it will feature a guest performance by Nick Oshiro.
This is one of, if not the ONLY, album I bought based on the title alone (well, and the genre). It did not disappoint! Spineshank was soon to be my next discovery.
I did the local road crew gig for a while and I met Wayne static. I was side stage watching Fear Factory at ozzfest second stage. A guy came up next to me and said hey you have a light. I said sure-handed it to him and was like oh hey weren't you on stage two bands ago. He said yeah that's me I'm Wayne I introduced myself and shook his hand. He hung out with me for the rest of the fear factory set and we just shot the s*** about everything from bands n gear to what kind of cars n food we like. Great guy very down to Earth I'm sad that he's gone.
Found out about Static-X on a whim when I went and bought the Machine CD in a music store not knowing a thing about them.. just wanted to try something new. Ended up loving them since! Sad Wayne passed …R.I.P.🖤
I had just graduated high school in 99 and every morning I turned the TV to MTV while I got ready to go to work and I remember the “He’s a loser” video coming on. I was an instant fan. Yesterday at work I was playing “Push It” and a young woman walked over to my work bench and asked who that was. She spent the rest of the day listening to Static-X.
I’m surprised you didn’t mention static-x ‘s live album/video “cannibal killers” greatest live performance I have ever heard. SO F’n BAD ASS. RIP Wayne, you are an EPIC original GOD among mere mortal men🤘
Great documentary. Just wanted to add that you have a great voice and the way you pronunced it's easy to understand for people who are not native english speakers. Great work!
Thanks for doing this. I love Static-X, they were an important part of my discovery around heavier music. Based off some of the last quotes you have from Wayne it's hard to believe that he would be happy with what the current lineup of Static-X is doing; using his likeness and a dude wearing a mask and wig to look like him.
Hard to believe he would like his original band mates honouring his life and music? Maybe try attending one of the new shows before you make up your mind.
I remember when the album machine came out I found it on the street in front of my house. It was in it's case in perfect condition but the little plastic holder was cracked. I went inside and gave it to my dad and he said that he was about to go out and buy that album. He had seen them on tour with Megadeth.
How cute, both parents had the same hairdo as Wayne! 😃 I love this band and feel bad I never got to see them live. I was devastated when I found out about the death. 😢
I was genuinely so saddened by Wayne's passing 💔 I didn't want to believe it was true 😢 such a huge loss. He was so incredibly talented with his fusion of musical styles. Static are one of my favourite bands.... always and forever! I also want to say that u do an exceptional job with this channel and I enjoy it very much. I also tell my followers and fellow music lovers to check it out👌 brilliantly done sir!
im grateful to have seen them live at Ozzfest2000 at Starwood in Nashville TN! . This is probably the most significant show i've ever been to, because not only did i witness 1st-hand Dimebag Darrel, but also was jaw-dropped at how Wayne Static could do those vocals LIVE!
I was supposed to see them live for the third time the year he passed, I cried so hard. he was my favorite singer and still is. it was a ritual for my father and I to rock in the pit at the end of the year in a small venue to Wayne and the few small bands they brought along...ugh I will always miss him.
Great video. Funny that Prong got dropped after Rude Awakening album. I have purchased that CD at least three times because someone kept stealing it from me.
I remember meeting Primer 55 back in 2002 and their bass player loved my Static-X “Machine” shirt with the lyrics for “This is Not” on the back: This is not my life, this is not my home, this is not me, I HATE THIS!
Saw Static at Family Values Tour when STP headlined it. Deadsy went on then Static after. I left directly after their set and I completely regret not staying for STP. At that time Static X was strictly the only band I cared about and needed to see. RIP no one can replace you.
Amazing doc, RIP Wayne Static! I still listen regularly. If it hadn't been for Street Skater 2 on PS1 I maybe never would have discovered you all those years ago.
Had tickets to ozzfest in 99- had to get a refund because after columbine they canceled some shows. Missed out on Ozzy, Manson and Static X. Those were the only bands that I and my best friend wanted to see. A tragedy, yes, but I still get aggravated sometimes when I think about it. Two jerks robbed so many people of so many things wtf. 😢 Loving your channel from Savannah ga USA 🇺🇸 🤘💋
Did you go in 2001 then when Manson made Ozzfest part of his Guns God and Government Tour? Or 2003 then when Manson came back and was at Peak Golden Age of Grotesque Kicked out of Disneyland Manson? I did...Static X was there a couple more times as well. I'm just saying, there were opportunities.
I met whayn in a little music store in worcester MA. A friend and I just happened to be going to buy 2 Wisconsin death trip CD s and we got to cut the line and meet the whole original band and I got a signed autograph from all the members on each of the pictures of them. Small world. That same friend and I saw them live after that. ❤ awesome
Wayne was awesome and a real good person. The guy could talk about anything and make you feel like you have known him forever. I'm glad my friend Rob introduced me to him because he was a good person to know. I was bummed out for weeks after he passed, but grateful to have had a chance to know him briefly. 😢
I used to run security for a club in Placentia California "Club 369". We hosted Static-X a lot during those early years. I instantly loved these guys right away. Nothing like them at the time. Always tried to make them feel at home.
You know.... I got up on this Wisconsin Death trip....and I never got off it. Miss you Wayne. You're the only Celebrity death that ever hit me emotionally.
One of my favorite memories of listening to Static-X when I was playing Need for Speed Underground with some pals when “The Only” was the song for my race
I remember seeing PM5000 in a small shithole club in Boston mid 90s and thinking this is going to change music and opened new doors of music for me and my friends who were heavy into metal and sick of grunge. I still have WDT in my CD rotation. RIP
It was nice hearing Wayne's side of the story of what's going on in the band and about his life during the making of these amazing albums. I do miss him and hope he's rocking in the afterlife with Tera.
i wasn't drawn to; the ' Nu metal ' scene I liked a few bands like ; Shadows fall ; Killswitch engage but I do remember hearing Static X . I had their 1st album Wisconsin death trip. such a huge loss. Wayne static RIP
Still 1 of my favorite bands ever I can't even fathom how they tried to recreate WDT with a new singer dressed like a dead Wayne Static and toured. That should just tell you how money driven the rest of the band was and how uncaring they were to Wayne statics sudden death .
😔 🎶🤘🫶Thanks for this. Great tribute video. Wayne was one in a million. A diamond in the rough sorta Dude. Wisconsin Death Trip is still on my top favorite albums. One of the albums that I can put on and, not skip one song. Rest assured Wayne, you are still making many people happy 😊 with your music. 🎼 🎶 🖤🪽🎶🖤🪽
Wayne always seemed like such a nice person. I never knew him personally, never even met, I live half-way across the world, but always seemed like the guy to sit down and knock back a few beers and just talk with. RIP.
I'm from Lubbock TX and we never had any good bands come to town. Static x would play here all the time. Not a fan of their music but appreciated that they would play here and they put on a great show.
Oh man do I miss American Head Charge. I’ve seen them so many times with Static X, Dope, and Midvayne. In 2013 they toured with Mushroomhead which made me think they were back, but I guess not…
Bless you for this. I knew you were the only one that could do Wayne justice. Rest in Paradise Wayne Richard Wells and Tera Wray🙏🤘🤘🤘

All time classic, so simple yet so catchy and unique. Hard to do that.

Lol I bought Spines banks album simply because it had a positive quote from Wayne Static on it.
RIP Wayne, you are an EPIC original GOD among mere mortal men🤘
Saw Wayne solo a few months b4 he passed. So glad I got to see him❣️
Great documentary. Just wanted to add that you have a great voice and the way you pronunced it's easy to understand for people who are not native english speakers. Great work!
Death trip is a MASTERPIECE🤘🤘
Such an insane album and way more important to alt metal than most realise
Not a bad song on that album
Im at work right now and have binge watched so many of these "story" episodes. Dude your page is awesome, thank you for doing all of this!
That's so weird. 👀
There will never be another Wayne Static… long live WayneX
I am a huge fan boy, I don’t think I’ve ever missed a show, thanks for the history report, I learned a few facts about Wayne.
How cute, both parents had the same hairdo as Wayne! 😃 I love this band and feel bad I never got to see them live. I was devastated when I found out about the death. 😢
Xer0 has a Wayne look, I’ve listened to Static-X new music and a few of the songs I play often keeping them on my playlist
YESSSS THANK YOU!! I have been asking and waiting for you to do Static-X for a while now and you delivered!! Fucking legend 🤘🤘🤘🖤🖤🖤
Always loved Static X. And also a little bit because Way e looked a bit like Dan Akroyd and that just made it even better.
lol, I could never pick it but you nailed it.
I find it adorable that in the photo of him and his parents, his father is wearing a sweater that says Static-X
Great video. Funny that Prong got dropped after Rude Awakening album. I have purchased that CD at least three times because someone kept stealing it from me.
Wayne was the man!!! Still pissed he’s gone. Keep the Disco Evil my friends.
I saw Static-X, on the Pantera Reinventing The Steel tour, and they were maybe the best sounding band i’ve ever heard live.
This is the first time I’ve heard Cryptic Slaughter mentioned in anything. They’re fucking awesome
Never had the chance to mention them before or SOD
Thank you SO MUCH for making these.
Another band I really wish I could of seen live, such an awesome sound. RIP Wayne 💔
I remember meeting Primer 55 back in 2002 and their bass player loved my Static-X “Machine” shirt with the lyrics for “This is Not” on the back: This is not my life, this is not my home, this is not me, I HATE THIS!
Static x still rocks in my radio to this day
Saw Static at Family Values Tour when STP headlined it.
@@justinlast2lastharder749live shows should always be number 1 priority in life
Ended up moving across country after graduation in 2000, so no... all missed opportunities for me
Now i want to see a ministry documentary
His music will live on.
Thanks for the video, congratulations, great history of this great and insane band.
❤ awesome
What an insane throwback ! From France. First heard Push It then fell in love.
loved me some Static X. Still holds up.... Love how the brought them back and are doing it in a way that honors Wayne.
Wayne was awesome and a real good person. The guy could talk about anything and make you feel like you have known him forever. I'm glad my friend Rob introduced me to him because he was a good person to know. I was bummed out for weeks after he passed, but grateful to have had a chance to know him briefly. 😢
He seemed like such a nice dude in interviews, and Tera.
Please make one of these videos on American Head Charge!! They were absolutely mind blowing and way under rated!! 🤘🤘
I just found these guys last year! They fucking rock!
Seamless and Effigy 23 are fucking bangers!
One of my favorite memories of listening to Static-X when I was playing Need for Speed Underground with some pals when “The Only” was the song for my race
Met Wayne a long time ago when they toured in a RV. He was hella cool and greeted us before tearing it up at the Huntridge in LV.
I remember seeing PM5000 in a small shithole club in Boston mid 90s and thinking this is going to change music and opened new doors of music for me and my friends who were heavy into metal and sick of grunge. I still have WDT in my CD rotation. RIP
First time I saw PM 5000 was at the hemp fest.
I went to ozzfest 99 where static x, soad and slipknot were making their like big label debuts!! That was an awesome show!!
It was nice hearing Wayne's side of the story of what's going on in the band and about his life during the making of these amazing albums. I do miss him and hope he's rocking in the afterlife with Tera.
Pretty sure Ministry is responsible for every single alt/industrial metal band in existence.
i wasn't drawn to; the ' Nu metal ' scene I liked a few bands like ; Shadows fall ; Killswitch engage but I do remember hearing Static X .
I blew off Static X in their hay day. Being in a Static X tribute, I can appreciate what Wayne and the bands he fronted did musically! RIP Wayne!! ❤❤❤
🎶 🖤🪽🎶🖤🪽
I saw them 5 times on the Wisonsin tour cycle. They were so different and fun. Glad I was there!
Very cool tribute. Thx for sharing .
Machine was a great album, but WDT is a absolute masterpiece
Wayne always seemed like such a nice person. I never knew him personally, never even met, I live half-way across the world, but always seemed like the guy to sit down and knock back a few beers and just talk with. RIP.
I'm from Lubbock TX and we never had any good bands come to town. Static x would play here all the time. Not a fan of their music but appreciated that they would play here and they put on a great show.
Thanks!
🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Thank you my friend for this🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🍺
Loved this Album..Disc meets Metal... Freaking Bad Ass!!!🔥🔥☠️👹👺🤘🤘🍻
Oh man do I miss American Head Charge. I’ve seen them so many times with Static X, Dope, and Midvayne. In 2013 they toured with Mushroomhead which made me think they were back, but I guess not…
