A slum has the highest literacy rate in the country, that's impressive. EDIT: Apparently it's ONE OF THE HIGHEST, not THE HIGHEST in the country. I apologize for misleading viewers.
This was wrong fact shown india has avg. Literacy rate of 74.04 % . Kerela being the state with higesht literacy rate 93.91 %. Infact dharavi is having one of the lowest literacy rate in whole Maharastra .
@Kevin Troy dude just respect their culture ok. they have been eating like this for centuries and adapted to live like that. sanitary hygiene is a basic procedure in ur and my country bcs its accessible and affordable. for them, its not affordable and it will increase their prices by alot if they buy alot of sanitary products, and how can common/ poor folks afford to pay? basic hygiene is a problem but pls, dont be rude. for e.g. a surgical mask cost maybe 0.5-1.5 usd, thats the price of a single meal for them do u know that? and not to mention, other sanitary gear,, be glad that ur country has proper hygiene but dont mock others for a culture u dont uds
@Kevin Troy I admit that this is an issue. This is directly related to education and literacy rates but there is huge difference in areas which have >85 , 90 % lit. rates . Those regions are much cleaner and beautiful eg- Backwaters Of Kerala. We are commited make strides in this area through a initiative called Clean India Mission .
Can we just put the hygiene matters aside because it's not the point of this documentary. This street food is very exotic in its own way. Besides, what you see here it's happening everywhere in such developing countries. If you're living in a country where this doesn't exist, then lucky you for having such a privilege to live in a better country with a better social welfare.
Most of the time I saw only the bad side of the slum like how polluted it is. Never saw this part of slum, now I have different thoughts about slum. I wish people would show more good side of the slum. Huge respect of their hard work.
The only thing that gives slums negative impression is a lack of public planning and you can't even say that it's the government's fault, because the poorer migrant sections in any big cities will flock to the places that will be least expensive and they will be the least planned. By the time the government get to redeveloping the area, the areas would have been too densely populated and convincing the people to give up their only shelter and have faith in the government would have become a gigantic task.

Well the idli guy is already earning good money, more than what most salaried people earn and even considering the cost of living in mumbai, he can easily move out of the slum. But the point is he can't operate a kitchen in a residential area at 3am. So if he moves out he has to pay for 2 properties, one his residence and the other his kitchen. So it's kind of a bottleneck for him but also a blessing that keeps his operation costs low. It's not impossible for him to make a franchise for his business, infact many popular India fastfood franchises were small businesses and they are doing really well. One has to just play smartly( like using a foodtruck in this case, I mean the man can afford it ) and have luck, it's not like you can't become rich in india as fast as in the US.

I've never been disappointed eating from a proper south indian guy. These guys are wizards in their game. Each and every joint has their own taste and each taste incredibly awesome
I concur.
Yes. They leave their mark no Matter wherever they go. Nothing can beat their receipe.
Oh, man. South Indian food is just something else.
the mentality of south Indians is just completely different
It's because of their culture they are still grounded , while people in north have high level of attitude due to their money power .but the case in South is totally different .they are hard working not like a marvadi , sitting and continuing their fathers bussiness even if they are in capable. I think south indians also need to start doing business and get more educated. then this north indians will not able to look down on south Indians.

Most happiest part in this video was😀" Dharavi has good literacy rate and kids are getting education ☺️🙏
@Kevin Troy Do the math you will know why
@Kevin Troy 74% is not a high literacy rate. It's a serious problem which we're trying to solve.
Not to mention these "fortunate people" people have never worked in a hot kitchen on a hot day.
No we cant! its food we talking about here. no excuses when it comes to hygiene
It's the other way around... People not taking hygiene seriously is one of the reasons why their countries remain undeveloped.

@@adrollan8673 uh huh? And you think they have access to clean water?

It's maybe looks bizarre to lots of us, but that is their culture, most of them cooked like that using bare hands and it wont affect their life & health.
Africans and Indians cook and eat like that and we dont get food poisoning,
People who are always clean and have OCD when it comes to cleanliness are more prone to diseases and sickness because their immune system don't get enough exercise to combat foreign matters that get inside their bodies. That's why in our childhood we were always playing in the dirt and such to train our tiny immune system for foreign invaders. Also in childhood, we were injected vaccines that have little dosage of weak germs that makes our immune system active in producing antibodies
Slumfood for a reason, ofc it doesnt adhere to any health and safety standard
@@renzeldavid4568 main reason you are seeing 3rd world slums in India and Africa are having a minor impact from covid , our immune systems are constantly exposed to poor hygeinic conditions
Cooking the food in boiling oil/ water or frying it kills off the bacteria anyway, big reason why we cook our food.
Mad respect for these people. I can only imagine how amazing their success if they were in the United States.
