- Klong Toey is Bangkok's most notorious slum, known for its high crime and drug abuse. But its residents reveal a different side of the slum - a place full of mouthwatering food on a budget. The street food vendors showcase their delicacies, from tangy raw 'dancing' shrimp, perfectly-grilled kidney and juicy pork, to spicy and bitter meat salad.

About Slumfood Millionaire: Embark on a mouth-watering journey through the slums of Asia, the last places on earth you would expect to find delicious foods. This unique documentary series celebrates the flavourful, and often unknown dishes made by talented cooks in the slums of Manila, Bangkok, Mumbai, Jakarta, Phnom Penh and Kota Kinabalu. Using cheap and overlooked ingredients, they cook up scrumptious dishes that are famous within the slums. Their passion and resilence prove that good food need not be expensive.

"I only eat tasty food because otherwise I would get fat for nothing" That are words to live by.
I agree 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Love It
... because no dollars but dignity !!!
I realized that 4 year ago and now someone said it too.
Whenever I watch Thai vendors talk about pricing the most common thing i hear is that they don’t ever want to increase their prices although they don’t make much profit. It says a lot about how big their hearts are! Some of us could definitely learn from them.
Absolutely emma. Be well. 🙏
The Chinese hate that mindset. They always want the money and don't care about their customers.
@@romella_karmey There's a lot of chinese in my country (India) but they alway try to keep the price low so the customer satisfied. On the other hand my own Indian countryman always try to increase the price everytime. The Chinese (country) even worse they will sell their product under production cost (dumpling) to win the market but this behavior actually kill the competitor and this is not a good thing. So i prefer what my Indian countryman been doing to adjust the price.
I know big business wants double.
If this was brought in America. They will charge an arm and a leg for this dish that was just plated in a fancy way
I love how the recurring theme in these slum food millionaire documentaries is the selflessness of all the cooks. Either they give food away to those who can’t afford it, or refuse to raise the price of their food so that people there can still afford it. These people may live in the slums and earn a living well below the poverty line but they treat people with more humanity and kindness than the richest people in the world. For that I view them more highly than any millionaire.
hell yeah
"Whether its cheap or expensive its not important, the most important thing is the taste"
-
True!!!
With that quality of foods and cooking techniques.. the price can be sold 3 times higher but they refuse to do sobecause they want to help those unfortunate people to get their needs meet. Truly inspiring, when people put others into their consideration, its really heart warming!
Man, Bangkok's slum does not look like a slum at all. Look better than many slums around the world.
This isn’t slum, it’s the normal livelihood here in Bangkok!
Professor G It is a slum. I’m Thai, I know the place.
Like she said 20years ago its more dangerous
Maybe it's being gentrified
Basically, like Tondo District in Manila, it's cleaner and safer compare 20 or 30 years ago. Gangsters and Drug Dealers are already Old, Dead, or in Prison.
I laughed so hard when the shrimps actually jumped out of the plate just like the seller just said 😂😂😂
I know right? It was like oooooh my $0.001 jumped on the floor 😂
That sh*t was disgusting, I would not eat shrimp alive or half alive; they hold the most parasites next to crab and other crustaceans.
Never eat shellfish raw.
If not know the culture or country don’t look down on it. Work hard earn money pack the bags traveling
Janine Alyzza hahahahaha 😂😂
@@benjamincho4819 I agree. This raw dancing shrimp is one of Thai dishes I've avoided eating so far even I really want to try it once. However, as the chef said that eating raw freshwater fish/shrimp or whatever is more dangerous than eating raw seafood. Because I work as a doctor in Thailand, I know the fact that Northeastern Thai people, as known as Isan, have the highest rate of parasitic infection in Thailand caused by their own diet preference. :(
"if someone gives u trouble here just tell me" that's how u know she's the boss.
delivery girl easily chop people head of by round house muaythai kick to the neck, don't mess with her.
When I was in Thailand, my cousins were taking me around just eating. They thought I wanted high end restaurants. But, I told them I'm not picky, and will where and where they eat, no problem.
I found that, 99% of the time, the poorer looking areas have they best food. Just good, down to earth home cooking
Wise selected, there are plenties of street restaurants that's will amazing u in thailand
I love variety of Thai street foods. Every time I visit Thailand doesn't matter if I am there for 14 days or 30 days I managed to gain at least 10 lbs. 🤣🌶

"What is your name?"
" Job"
" Your name, not job"

Looks cleaner and safer than the homeless encampment on the streets of LA and San Francisco.
And DTES Vancouver.
as a former homeless person.. I happen to agree with you. Here in the US most homeless camps are positively RANID, used needles and condoms, trash, urine and feces ... blah. I never lived in one. It was too dangerous. I lived in my car wherever I could.
Is it really that bad in L.A.?
and Portland....

I am not Thai but do volunteer work in Klong Toey regularly and love the street food. It is a mix of Isaan, Chinese and Burmese so always a variety to select from.
I missed Thailand's street food, specially the way they tie the plastic bag with rubber to secure it from spilling.
It's an art in ifself.
Hey, we the Malaysian do the same.
Ha ha , agreed , firstly it was quite difficult for me to untied .
I didn't realize that it is different from other places in the world. Now I know
everything looks goooooodddd!!!
i will find you guys the next time i visit bangkok!!!
Thai foods is indeed one of the best I have ever tasted. Wish to go back to 🇹🇭🥰
This is real chef, she knows all techniques! I really want to try her menu!
Their foods are way more hygienic and cleaner than many slums elsewhere. And their houses are also looks decent and convenient with grinder, washing machines, etc.
Amazing documentary!!!
Im impressed with how complicated and neat of those ingredients preparation.
Really love them, both food and chef.
They are chefs.
I love the passion and pride the last couple put in their dishes. I loved them, god bless them!
Very interesting and gained a new perspective. Very nice video, thanks
Thailand cuisine knows how to enhance the flavor of their dishes.
Watching this really got me in my feelings! I really miss Thailand!
Its so satisfying watching content about slumfood. It look delicious!
The grilled waterfall pork was really appetizing! 😋 Hope to visit Bangkok again soon. Sending our love from the 🇵🇭

I see a lot of this type in a Ca____'s owned ASEAN group that is special for promote their country culture propaganda

also they used the very same sentence when they insult Thailand

The taste not even close in Thailand at all. Same name but not the taste.
I love this documentary ❤️❤️
Omg my mouth is watering! Im thai, lao, & chinese but born & raised in the u.s. and I grew up eating all these yummy dishes here too. A lot of my cousins and i dont like the bile as much as my parents and grandparents generation though. If you've never had animal blood your missing out. It's really tasty, with great umami flavor and it's not as irony as people think. A lot of other non asian countries eat animal blood too.
Such a wholesome show. Great to get a list the locations of these shops and support them.
Danke für das hochladen sehr interessant
That pork kidney is really well prepared and the live shrimp salad is such an exciting food.
Big Mama is one industrious clever talented lady. The couple who cook Isaan food have amazing attitude. They really take pride in their work, it’s not simply about money plus they care about their community.
This made me miss travelling and going to local markets.
Shrimps be like- "Juuuuump for your liiiiiives!" 🍤
The influencer is so animated and excited talking about street food even if he looks bougie himself ♥️
Street food in Thailand is for everyone, rich or poor. Thai millionaires, super stars, politicians, CEO, physicians etc. are often found eating street food. Their pictures are posted on social media by themselves or by their FC for everyone to see.
I subscribed and clicked the Bell icon man really awesome documentary ... the way it tells story the way its shot and produce. Im from India i earn like $600 a month and I used to complain alot but after watching you documentaries I realise I'm atleast fortunate. I'm gonna share it to all my colleagues 😁👍

i swear i can live forever eating Bangkok's slum food. it was the best foods ive ever tried. so cheap, sooo delicious
I like the man with the glasses on, he’s natural
Yeah, he genuinely like the foods presented in this video
He is a famous haute couture designer and stylist in Thailand. I was surprised that he can describe street food so well.
My mom and relatives still cooks the larb with blood, bile, intestines etc. It is delicious. Don’t knock it until you try it!
A quality documentary from CNA,salute from China
I seldom eat offals but that pork kidney skewers plus a can of beer be amazing.
Now, I want to go and try all of this food.
I'm looking forward to taste those foods once we revisit Thailand again someday
We will look forward to your comeback. ❤️🙏🇹🇭

interesting. Klong Toey and the couple's food, will keep this in mind next time we visit Thailand!
They are more hygienic compared to the other slums shown in this series.
But doesn't look healthy at all blood/bile omg..
@@roadrunner1965 that's called food cultures.
@@roadrunner1965 i can say they cooked them well with heat at least in this episode.
Hygienic? You mean shower rangers?
@@roadrunner1965 I also see for the first time that people consuming biles as for blood I have seen before. Drinking blood is unhygienic/ taboo in your religion/ or culture does not mean it is right. Judging based on your culture or religion is totally wrong since they differ vastly from religion to religion and country to country- it is not like science or maths. So please don't be close minded and educate yourself.
it aint thai food without fish sauce in everything
Thats why I love thai food AHAHAH fish sauce is life sometimes I substitute salt with fish sauce and trust me it tasted way better
The waterfall pork looks yummy!
That shrimp salad looks so delish!! Wanna go to Thailand and try it.
So hardworking Thai's. I love Thailand ❤️❤️❤️
Amazing truly gourmet
You know I love Thailand. For me Thai food is the best in Asia. I love their people. Love from Manila, 🇵🇭 😊
That is straight up Sims music in the background.
I was looking through the comments to see if anybody else noticed hahaha
Yep.
Hours of homebuilding.
It appears clean in the streets compared to some of the other documentaries I've seen.

I love Thai food 😋🥗🍜🥘🍻
Its beautiful.
Love Thai food and love Thailand
Customer:- I need fresh shrimp
Big mama:- hold my salad.....
I went in for a documentary shooting as a student. Cramp condition makes it a fire hazard but some quarters are really organized. They have their own fire watch, firefighting drill, protocols in place.
If a fire broke out neighbours would rush to take down houses next to the blazing house to starve the fire (most houses were made with wood and other flamable). This was how they contain fire.

Thai street food is delicious. This video is just the start of Thai food.
I would love to sit and eat their food. Looks delicious
This is just a representation that everyone strive harder to have a better life. I wanna go in thailand someday💖
@adum50 i really need to go there to experience it.
I want a series of videos where food sellers try the food they sell but on different price point.
Watching these makes me hungry😋😐
Wow. So healthy. The dancing shrimp salad
Omg Issaya is a great restaurant I go there every time I visit Bangkok
This was the first one int the series that I can understand the people talked witout reading subtitle.
I really respect the fact that so many of the chefs in this series use ingredients that might seem gross and are typically not used in North American cooking for example, and turn them into something delicious. I think the only thing I wouldn't eat that I've seen is the dancing shrimp lol. I think I'd rather eat live bugs!
I am a vegetarian but I can say this must be wholesome food which they are serving without compromising the quality of the ingredients. The part where the lady was telling her daughter got rejected for job because of the place where she lives was really sad and unfair. 🙁
ดีใจด้วย
God bless them and may give them sufficiently love
My mouth waters for some of these yummy foods 🤪🤪

It’s a slum doesn’t mean it dirty . People that live in there’re happy it just over populate . Some of the people that live in that slum are wealthier than people that live in the city.
