- The 6th-generation Ford Explorer has been on sale since 2019. But the three-row SUV segment is a competitive one so for 2025, Ford is ready to give the Explorer a refresh. Jessica Ray recently hit the roads in the suburbs of Detroit for a First Drive to see what this revised Explorer is all about.

Oh I love the 400hp V6 engine. Absolutely beastly
I have an explorer as a company car with the 2.3 and it has some power. I was not expecting that. I can only imagine the 400 hp v6. I’m not a ford guy at all, but I’m impressed i will say that.
The Explorer will never be as luxurious as the 96’ Eddie Bauer
Did motor week hire the woman from watch mojo
She's been on MW for many years.
Now that you mention it, she does sound similar
@@FeartheCyr611
You just never see her 😅
Hopefully, they're putting the money they've saved by deleting physical controls and interior color options, into better quality.
Ha, that's a good one.
The people have spoken and Ford never got the message. Physical HVAC controls could have easily fit into the budget of 40k plus per vehicle. I do like the sensor pod that looks like a column mounted shift indicator from 1974.
The taillights look really cool, but the front just looks... Bloated? Pouty? I dont know how to describe it. It just feels like some tired middle aged manager coming back from a long day and melting on the couch.
yeah true the current models front end looks way better. when a cop with one gets behind me i get scared
@@didgythat’s just me in my black ‘22 ST w Silver, yes silver roof racks
The closing music track🔈🔉🔊❤
1:01 it's not the same 2.3L engine, its the newer one from the ecoboost mustang
Was going to say the same. Read that it has the same power but better efficiency.
I like the 2018 Fusion 1.5 ecoboost that burns gas and coolant...
Does the passenger seat have adjustable lumbar?
I saw on the road a white Explorer Platinum max is that the best one they offer?😊
I want one
Ford is number 1 in recalls so all these new electronics will keep them that way…
Ford might do the following for the next-gen Explorer:
* Revert back to its roots as a Ranger-based midsize SUV
* Morph into a Bronco-inspired 3-row SUV thus scrapping the ST-Line and ST trims in favor of the laid-back Tremor, mid-level Wildtrak, and extremely feral Raptor trims to keep the SUV on the same boat as the ladder-frame F-Series and Ranger pickups as well as the Bronco off-roader
@roberthoyt7921 You're tripping! Ford makes MONEY hand over fist on ALL the truck models they sell! Why would they drop and or incorporate all of their truck models like that when they know what sells and what doesn't?! NO OTHER car manufacturer can match the Ford Explorer ST in value for the performance and features it has. You'll need a six figure, V8 powered BMW X5 to beat the Explorer ST, as the V6 X5's can't touch the Explorer ST with a stick! Ask me how I know! Most BMW sedan's aren't a match either.. Again, ask me how I know! The Explorer ST only needs a 50-100HP increase in my book. Until then, I'll keep my tuned 2020 Explorer ST.
@@DalHarpJr I think an Explorer Raptor would be much faster, stronger, and overwhelmingly feral than the just-for-looks Explorer ST. Out with the ST and in comes the Raptor. U have the F150, Bronco, and Ranger given the wild Raptor treatment. Will the next-gen Expedition, next-gen Explorer, and the face-lifted Everest be the next to get Raptor-ified?
They can still do better. Get some color options in there. And the front end looks like it's missing a piece. Over all. Not something I'd rush to go look at. Specially when Hyundai and Kia are killing it in this segment in design. Inside and out.
Gameloft. Wow! I miss GT Racing 2 and Asphalt 8. Lets not forget minion run.
@0:37 Having 4 different trim levels, with one called ST-Line, and another called ST, is lazy and confusing.
Try to do better Ford. This decision should've been an easy one, but ya blew it.
Some are easily confused.
@thumperjdm It's not lazy, as Ford is jumping on the same bandwagon as Acura, Audi, BMW and Mercedes Benz! All of these premium European/Japanese manufacturers have their top of the line performance models, and then a lesser "sport appearance package" for the mid/low mainstream models. Hence the Explorer ST and Explorer ST Line models.
Ford has already had the ST line and ST model for five years…nobody is confused
Do the eco-boost engines still leak oil before 80k miles??
Stop racing every car and change your oil every 5,000 miles
@@natelove187 Don't own them. It's what I hear from current/past owners.
@@CherrySquisheeall the eco-boost engines used for all auto makers have problems. Not just Ford. I have a 2014 Edge with the naturally aspirated V6 and it does good. When they changed them to a 4cyl eco-boost they had a lot of engine problems. The 3cyl Bronco is already have engine problems. That’s a lot of weight for a 3cyl to move.
Of course, it's a Ford.
@@fia1921 Ford fixed those engines. They have been redesigned
Yes, the segment is competitive . Please let your audience know that most if not all mechanics, including the Ford dealerships have renamed these vehicles the exploder. For their propensity to break down in spectacular fashion. Not as in Pinto.
I wonder if the v6 is just the turbo version of the v6 that requires a $5000 timing chain job just to replace a water pump.
The EcoBoost V6 is unrelated to the naturally aspirated V6 which is no longer available
Good job Lisa.
well, 5 years in, and the grill of the Explorer looks fancy, but the grill on the refreshed explorer, looks similar to the refreshed escape, i mean, what's the point of having a 3 row crossover when you take it off road, if you can't get the Timberline model no more, that's just the whole duvet downer.
Ford does not offer "all wheel drive" on any 2025 Explorer. According to the Ford website and the emblems on the liftgates, the only option is four wheel drive. Different systems.
I'm surprised they don't have the off-road-ish Timberline model any more.
Possible explorer raptor incoming....
I live in SoCal I have seen just 1, no one’s buying them.
@@TobyCostaRicai see several here in AZ
@@ml9867 just read Timberline trim is now Active trim
Ford for the next-gen Explorer, which may either become a Ranger-based SUV aimed for the Toyota 4Runner or an outright aggressive Bronco-inspired 3-row rather than continue as a useless Taurus-based crossover since 2011, could kill the Active trim in favor of the Tremor and Wildtrak plus kill off the ST trim in favor of the bestial Raptor. The Platinum trim might get scrapped in favor of an entry-level trim for the next-gen Lincoln Aviator.
It would look even lower if they would body match that black cladding and sills
No hybrid?
Nope. Pretty sure it's only available for fleets.
I have a 20 ST, why lower the towing capacity from 5600 in the 20 to 5000 in the 25🙄
600 pounds of screens and wires, or maybe the old one was overrated
Any recalls yet ... Sept 2024 .
A 294 horse power seven passenger Kia Telluride tows 5,000 pounds. A 295 horsepower Nissan Pathfinder tows 6,000 pounds.🤷🏼
Vegas is already placing odds on how many recalls this model will have. Place your bets!
@jaydibernardo4320 Recalls on what?! All of the mechanicals have been improved since 2020! I have a lowered and tuned 2020 ST with almost 30,000 mi. I drive it like I stole it! There is a back up camera recall, I was just made aware of a window switch issue where the chrome has been peeling off, and also an exhaust gasket leak which is now a recall. Outside of these recalls, I have been trouble free in four years of ownership!
This vehicle is made to do one thing and one thing only *TOTALLY DOMINATE SALES OF ALL VEHICLES PERIOD.* How it stacks up against the Toyota Rav4 and Honda CRV is all that matters therefore and based on pricing soon to be en route should post up very well just on safety scores alone. Verdict: c'mon Ford 5000 pounds towing?
Mazda Cx9 for the interior and the Toyota Grand Highlander for greater efficiency.
…and Ford is you want a large crossover with 400HP.
Thanks, interesting.. By the way, should be “nice” at : Zero miles, no wear, or use ; at these horrendous prices.( 😂😂)…….Admittedly, great improvements, *& add ons over the years…….
Belt driven oil pump.
OOF. Having heard from a Roadside Assistance employee in my neighborhood that has seen them fail more than once, they're bad news.
I'm tired of Toyota's weak powertrain engines in large vehicles. Ford is looking attractive again 🍷
Dodge is doing better with powertrains.
Get 5.0 or you'll regret it longterm
Idk why but i think my 2017 explorer limited is way nicer still. Looks like an suv not a tall van. The new ones are too curved.
Three recalls by the end of the video.
Looks like a Subaru Ascent in the front
Motorweek has never been the same without Yolanda 😢😢😢
I wonder how the Police Interceptor version would look like…
Ford stated the police version will have the same styling as before
@@tylermacconnell217 Excellent.
Dashboard looks real cheap.
Will never buy another Ford. Mine was recalled 18 months ago and they still haven’t fixed it.
Tell Ford to stop dicking around and ship my vehicle. 🚗 it has been built for a month now and missed its dealer arrival date. What the hell are they doing with it?
Trying to make it work.
Ahh, the new Ford CX9
After 30 years the Explorer only sad thing need a v8
Most Explorers from 2011 to today - that I’ve seen- don’t have room under the hood for a V8.
@emilianocruz11 I had a 2006 Explorer Eddie Bauer V8. It only had 300 some odd horsepower.. The Twin Turbo V6 runs circles around many V8's out here!
@@DalHarpJr Yes, I remember those. Based on what I heard, they were very reliable. The question (in my mind) is whether the present V6 is as or more reliable than the old V8.
@@bikdav I definitely think Ford can shoehorn a Coyote V8 under the 2020+ Explorer ST's hood. There's more than enough room to do so!
@@bikdav I have a 2020 Explorer ST that has been tuned from day one. I drive that SUV like a child with a new toy. The engine and the powerband, especially in sport mode is INSANE! I haven't had one issue with my powertrain, and I've owned mine for just about 4 years.
This front end was terrible. They should’ve left it as it is.
Is Ford still having quality issues??? Ford leads the League in Recalled vehicles 😮😮😮
Yes, since 1972
Yawn.
Barf. I wish SUV's could be un-invented. Characterless, overpriced unreliable boxes that no one needs, but better than driving a minivan.
