A really great video - it was amazing when it come out! Britain did Band-Aid several years later...later...Band Aid came barely earlier the same year...
This was an awesome collaboration with everyone involved. That era had some awesome songs like this starting with Bandaid. The best was attending Live Aide Philadelphia on 7/13/85 Which. To this date is the best concert I was ever at.
Thank you so much for this reaction video. Almost all the others are people screaming out the names of the artists that they think are performing like it’s a quiz show. When you do name them you don’t talk over their singing, that’s refreshing. You just react to the music and performance. Appreciate that. Very cool watching this with you!
Exactly. They were showing people in Africa, starving and dying every night,on the national news.Because of drought and famine,in Africa. So these artists got together,to raise money for food and stuff.
This was a collaboration of pure Love! Every one of these awesomely talented artists freely and willingly donated their time and happily joined together. I remember when this was going on. It truly was a wonderful thing!
What a powerful song, even now 35 years later. I remember when this came out and the world (at least, my known world) seemed to soften a bit. It didn't last long, but the message this song brought still lingers in the background and brings hope that we can ALL eventually come together for the betterment of everyone on this small spinning rock in the vast universe.
There are 3 other times I know artists got together for 1 song , another we are the world done for Haiti. There is a Christmas song done by all UK artists I forgot the name. And a country song called forever country with the artist labeled as then ,now ,and forever.
There actually was another one done similar, but it came nowhere close to this. Some things can't be duplicated. This song still hits the heart strings today.
Hey Maddy. Your absolutely right about having legends like these in a room and singing for a wonderful cause. Hopefully it’ll happen again. Keep up the great work. Big Aroha (love) from New Zealand 🇳🇿👍
Michael Jackson was there. Some of this was recorded the next day. Bruce Springsteen and Stevie Wonder's duet were recorded separately. Bruce recorded his they night most of this was recorded but Stevie came in the next day to do his part. This was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Ritchie. When Ray Charles asked where the bathroom was, Stevie Wonder said, "I'll show you Ray." And the cast and crew watched a real life case of the blind leading the blind.
Actually Michael Jackson was in the studio session with the other and even recorded chorus and his second part with them but because he wrote the song along with Lionel Richie which is why his part for the chorus was recorded separately it was prior to the other artists arrival, he recorded the chorus actually to guide the other artists so they kept his separate part . While it’s true Bob Geldof originated the idea in the Uk, Harry Belafonte was the brains behind the idea of We are the World when he wanted black people in America helping black peopel in Africa, they enlisted Lionel Richie and he in turn enlisted Quincy jones to produce, Quincy then enlisted Michael Jackson to help originally it was Michael Lionel and Stevie Wonder to write but Stevie was unavailable due to tight schedule, so Michael and Lionel wrote the song and prepared it a week or less before the recording and decided to record after the American music awards since most of the artists were in town, Bruce Springsteen among a few others flew in after their tour to join the song

Comment Number 150. Complete credits are in Wikipedia. All-stars 🌟 Madonna was not invited. The powers that be thought she was not good enough. This information was in an interview with Nile Rodgers. He did not perform either. But they performed at Live Aid. Sammy Hagar wanted to sing but was not invited. His Bay Area friends Lindsey Buckingham, Huey Lewis and Steve Perry sang. David Foster conducted a supergroup in Canada 🇨🇦. Bruce Allen took care of the business side. This group was named Northern Lights. Bryan Adams, Corey Hart, Geddy Lee of Rush, the late Gordon Lightfoot, RIP, Joni Mitchell, Anne Murray,Mike Reno of Loverboy and Neil Young are some of the singers. Suggested video 📹: Northern Lights perform Tears Are Not Enough.
Nope, they didn't record MJ seperately. This was all recorded in one evening after the Grammy Awards. They had a sign at the door saying "Leave your egos at the door." MJ and Lionel Richie wrote the song, I think they wrote it that evening, but I could be wrong.
There's a 1 hour special documentary about the making of the song. I only just watched it a couple days ago, and it's really interesting. These artists spent the entire night recording, as you said, right after the Grammys, till about 10 or 11 am. There was another one done for the earthquake in Haiti in 2010 (We Are the World 25 for Haiti). But in my opinion nowhere near as good as this.
@@boomer63Yes he was, he was there before everyone recording and he stayed there with the rest. At one point you can see him standing next to Diana Ross, she is between him and Stevie Wonder holding their hands
There was another event the following year when Ken Kragen, who helped put this event together, did Hands Across America which was not only a multi-artist song aimed at homelessness and hunger, but an event where millions of people tried to create a human chain from coast to coast.
This was inspired by a collection of British stars doing a song called Do They Know It's Christmas to raise money for African famine relief. You should definitely check that out -- but do the version from the Live Aid concert. A ton of huge stars (most of which weren't on the original) and a stadium full of people losing their minds. It will shake you.
And don’t forget that the heavy metal singers got together under the name Hear N Aid and made the song Stars. Doesn’t focus on the singing as much, but the guitar solo is incredible.
Bit of trivia: When whole group is singing, check out the guy on the very back row, center, with longer hair & glasses. That’s Dan Akroyd, from Ghost Busters/Saturday Night Live! He was in the same building as the recording studio & wandered over to see what was going on. They invited him to be in the choir.
There is a documentary on Netflix about this. It identifies who paired them. Initially, they asked why they were paired but then Stevie played the piano with everyone going through it as paired and after a few, as Stevie heard it he commented on how good it was. Others also realized it. It was done in one night except for Stevie and Ray were asked to come back in a few days later to do a fill in where the producers/directors thought it was needed.

There has been a few other solidarity songs, but like this.... never was, and never will be again. The level of talent, artistry, selflessness, ego-ness, and mission spirit in that room on that day was something the world will probably never see again. That night, and that place was "ground zero" of the 80's U.S. music industry.
This was done following the American Music Asards being held down the street several artists went straight from the awards show to re cried this they all were together and recorded throughout the night and early morning only Ray Charles.came back the next day to add some additional tracks. The artists decided Madonna did not have a strong enough voice (she was pissed when she found out about this and she wasn’t invited). All artists asked were eager to participate. The only one who refused was Prince. This was the American response to “Do They Know Its Christmastime by the British artists who called themselves Band-Aid. This led to the Live Aid concert which started in London and ended in Philadelphia.
I remember when mtv aired this i was 10 years old. it impacted the whole world. And baby girl this can't be redone. We just do not have the talent today to match this! It was a once in a lifetime thing.
Instant iconic event, the "world premiere" on MTV was as big or bigger as like a "Superbowl" halftime. To have Michael Jackson and Bob Dylan in the same room, that big. Huge when it happened
The song “We Are the World” was recorded on January 28, 1985 by the supergroup USA for Africa and released on March 7, 1985. The song was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie and produced by Quincy Jones and Michael Omartian. The single was a charity effort to raise money and awareness for famine victims in Africa and sold over 800,000 copies in its first three days, eventually raising more than $60 million
I gotta say that any music reactor should get to learn every single artist in this song. this is the best of the best of the 80s. This is the best colab in history when it comes to music. This wouldn't happen today!
Don’t forget to check out Hearing Aid-Stars. It’s all the rock legends doing there song together to help and the song Voices that Care which was done for the troops during the Desert Storm.
Unfortunetly more than half of the artists are gone now. Micheal Jackson thought up the idea and contacted Lionel Richie who wrote the song with him. Quincy Jones produced it. Artists were gathered for an awards show and agreed to join in. They started around midnight and finished around 5am. Prince was asked but refused due to his feeling like MJ's underling. No one was paid. It ran on radio stations regulary for years. MTV and VH1 also kept it in rotation. Sales of the record raised hundreds of millions wourldwide.
If we got best singers of today in room, would be many of the people in this video still alive who can actually (still) sing. Not sure could find as many today
That Stevie/Bruce duet KILLS me every time. So so good. I think I cry every time I hear this song.

A really great video - it was amazing when it come out! Britain did Band-Aid several years later...later...Band Aid came barely earlier the same year...
Ooooh 🤗
I remember when this came out in 84/85. I was in 5/6th grade in a small town in Mississippi. I loved it then and still love it to this day.
Aw! 🌸
This was an awesome collaboration with everyone involved. That era had some awesome songs like this starting with Bandaid. The best was attending Live Aide Philadelphia on 7/13/85
Which.
Estos artistas son calidad y cantan con el corazón ❤️
Pretty surprised, that such a young girl knows so many old Stars! Appreciate!
💖🤗
6:55 You could fit all of today's best singers in a phone booth.
😯
They recorded the song for sale in order to make enough money for food for the people who were starving in Africa ❤
Amazing
Cyndi Lauper killed that lol.
Yesss
You are breathtaking! Wow.
Oh amazing
Glad you recognized Dionne Warwick with her beautiful voice harmonizing with Willie Nelson !
There actually was another one done similar, but it came nowhere close to this. Some things can't be duplicated. This song still hits the heart strings today.
This would never been possible nowdays where everyone is greedy! Love this!
So true
No additions, everyone was in the same room making this magic happen.
Oooh
Hey Maddy. Your absolutely right about having legends like these in a room and singing for a wonderful cause. Hopefully it’ll happen again. Keep up the great work. Big Aroha (love) from New Zealand 🇳🇿👍
Band Aid with "Do They Know It's Christmas" was done multiple times. Most recently in 2014.
There was a sign over the doorway, "Check your ego's at the door". They did and something this HUGE became of it. It needs to happen again soon!!!
What a line up. Imagine going to a concert to see them all. Amazing Id pay almost all I have.
I remember this song, very popular back then
I bet!
God is with you Micheal😭😇🙏We will remember you, you were a singer and artist who was loved by the world, 🥰🥰🥰🇮🇩🇮🇩
Creo que Te amo!! Saludos desde Argentina!!
Cyndie killed it
Agreed!
Wow, think of how many are no longer alive. Geez. Gave me chills watching it. I grew up listening to all of them.
So sad
Michael Jackson was there. Some of this was recorded the next day. Bruce Springsteen and Stevie Wonder's duet were recorded separately. Bruce recorded his they night most of this was recorded but Stevie came in the next day to do his part. This was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Ritchie. When Ray Charles asked where the bathroom was, Stevie Wonder said, "I'll show you Ray." And the cast and crew watched a real life case of the blind leading the blind.
💖💖💖
There was a sign on the entrance that read "Leave your Egos" at the door. Writen up by Quincy Jones
they'll never be a song or video like this ever again with so many amazing iconic musician's in one place
It's fun watching these kids react to this music, even though she doesn't know many of the artists.
Omg baby i agree with you.If there was ever a time in history to do something like this its now.
My favorite parts of this song when I was a kid were Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder. Such a great song ❤

@@MaddyReactions read your comments before nonsensically replying with an emoji or "wow" "I agree" its disrespectful for your viewers and it makes it look like your replying in a hurry and dont give a damn.
wow - glad you reacted and like it. This reminded me of a great song by Ray Charles - What a Beautiful World (its gotta be one of the most upbeat views on the world I have ever heard)
Oh wow
Nope, they didn't record MJ seperately. This was all recorded in one evening after the Grammy Awards. They had a sign at the door saying "Leave your egos at the door." MJ and Lionel Richie wrote the song, I think they wrote it that evening, but I could be wrong.
There's a 1 hour special documentary about the making of the song.
I only just watched it a couple days ago, and it's really interesting.
These artists spent the entire night recording, as you said, right after the Grammys, till about 10 or 11 am.
There was another one done for the earthquake in Haiti in 2010
(We Are the World 25 for Haiti).
But in my opinion nowhere near as good as this.
Oh, how cool!
MJ came before all the others that night from the American Music awards event, and then he recorded his own part alone indeed.
MJ was not in the mix of this fantastic group of performers.
Oh wow!
There was an Hour long special about the making of this video. It explains much. It is on UA-cam. The making of we are the world.
Interesting 🤗
Also, there's a new Netflix documentary.
YES.
And don’t forget that the heavy metal singers got together under the name Hear N Aid and made the song Stars. Doesn’t focus on the singing as much, but the guitar solo is incredible.
"by a collection of British" & Irish. Bob Geldof, who's idea it was & co-wrote the song, Irish. Bono, Irish. Geldof's band Boomtown Rats, Irish
Michael Jackson was in the studio with them all. They were all together in one room
Lovely
Great song choice to react maddy

growing uo in the 80s this makes me proud!!!
There has been a few other solidarity songs, but like this.... never was, and never will be again. The level of talent, artistry, selflessness, ego-ness, and mission spirit in that room on that day was something the world will probably never see again. That night, and that place was "ground zero" of the 80's U.S. music industry.
"Heal the World" is another emotional song
Michael was there. They all came together after an awards show. There is a video of making of this video it was great to watch.
Go Maddy that you knew who so many are!
Aww 🤗
Amazing song 😊😊 it's makes me cry 😢
So sweet 💖
The song “We Are the World” was recorded on January 28, 1985 by the supergroup USA for Africa and released on March 7, 1985. The song was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie and produced by Quincy Jones and Michael Omartian. The single was a charity effort to raise money and awareness for famine victims in Africa and sold over 800,000 copies in its first three days, eventually raising more than $60 million
There is a behind the scenes making of video for this song that is a really cool watch..
I gotta say that any music reactor should get to learn every single artist in this song. this is the best of the best of the 80s. This is the best colab in history when it comes to music. This wouldn't happen today!
Pedazo canción nos dejó Michael con tan buenos artistas❤
This was done without auto tune because ever singer had talent and could actually sing that good
Don’t forget to check out Hearing Aid-Stars.
So sad
Only a few passed away, over exaggeration
If we got best singers of today in room, would be many of the people in this video still alive who can actually (still) sing. Not sure could find as many today
So true
If you took English class I might be able to understand you.
This is 1985, but THERE IS a "new" version of this: WE ARE THE WORLD 25 for Haiti (from 2010).
💖
That version is ****
There are no UA-cam algorithm gods. There is only ONE God and he has more important things to bless.
My friend, Indonesia also has a lot of musical talent. Try it, the reaction will be exciting and amazing 🙏😇 Thank you
Cindy is the absolute bomb on this!
you like crying?
It’s Sweet the song never Gets old
I'm not sure how much they considered each other competitors, if at all, since a lot of them were from entirely different genres. :)
True!
