Eddie Van Halen is considered one of best guitarist of all time. We was married to Valerie Bertinelli for over 25 years (until 2007). Sadly he passed away in 2020. Enjoy your rock journey!
Love your reactions. You have no idea how much fun you are about to have discovering MUSICIANS that not only can sing but play instruments as well. Wait until you find lyrics that completely punch you right in the heart. That's when you know you are hooked.
Great reaction! I remember when this song came out. I was in HS in the mid 80's. We were at practice one night for some music or band performance and the music teacher was annoyed because someone brought a boom box and was blasting this song. The music teacher then turned off the cassette player and sat down and started playing the (now iconic) keyboard's part in this song on an electric piano. It was amazing! We'd never seen anyone hear 60 seconds of a song and then start playing it. I know I'll never forget that night or this song! VH became one of my favorite bands after that.
I saw them twice, live. The lead singer was a former radio DJ. Eddie Van Halen was one of the best guitarist in rock history . Their concerts were 100% energy.
I love your reaction to this song and video - you said exactly what I always said about Van Halen - never saw another singer or band or group who had so much fun while performing on stage...fun and talented performers they were!
I remember when MTV actually played music videos and this came out. They would show it a couple times during the day. Everyone needs Van Halen in their life. EVH is Guitar God. Thank you
We all mature, and realize at some point , what we were missing earlier in our life, but thanks to UA-cam, we can relive it, and appreciate it when we're older. Excellent reaction. Good music, is good music no matter the genre. That's what I learned as I got older. I love ALL types of music. Excellent reaction!!!
If you're enjoying Eddie playing that guitar, wait until you see and hear him in his solo that showcases his skills in Eruption...Enjoy it, it's beyond fantastic, incredible etc
Without a doubt that was the most beautiful reaction I’ve seen to any song ever. So nice to see someone so much younger than me appreciating music and musicianship the same way. God Bless…Andy x
Girl its wonderful to see new reactions to such greatness. It makes a person remember the first time they witnessed it and its WONDERFUL! I was lucky enough to see them in concert 5 times and ALWAYS was left wanting more. 40 plus years later watching Eddie play still makes me get up, jam up, nd then tear up because he left us. Thanks Eddie I love you!
Hi Ashley! Both Dave (David Lee Roth) and later, Sammy (Hagar) were excellent front men and singers for Van Halen. Eddie was also such a virtuoso that he takes pressure off of Dave to control everything. The stage presence is forged by countless performances touring. 70+ shows a year, every year - That's what doesn't happen anymore. You get exposure streaming. Live isn't live.
"Rock" is a huge inclusive musical umbrella. Rock songs can be based in Blues or Funk. Hard Rock/Metal can also have elements of Classical music in them. It wasn't uncommon for a Hard Rock song to sound Funky. DEEP PURPLE: "Space Truckin'" sounds like Funk to me. It also wasn't uncommon for bands to have ALL the different genres on one album! The bands had talented musicians that could play multiple instruments, improvise, sing, write, produce and often either push the technology to it's limits or invent new technology or techniques and also perform live! You might like a song because of the music or another for the lyrics. You might like a band because of the "vibe" they have or maybe just a "look" they have. But then you'll find a band that has ALL those elements and it will blow your mind! Ha! That's why us "old people" cringe at what passes for music today.
It’s so sad that Eddie passed away. Eddie and Alex are from the Netherlands. When Eddie was married to Valerie Bertinelli, they looked like brother and sister. Both just so cute together. I saw them for the first time in Oakland, California in 1980. The 1980 Invasion Tour. I was fortunate enough to be in Reno Nevada to see them back in the 1990s. We were at the MGM Grand and Eddie was playing Baccarat. I waited for him to step away from the table and we walked over and asked him for his autograph on a napkin. He was holding his head down slightly and hiding under his hair wearing a long coat. I think he wanted to be left alone, but he was kind enough to sign the napkin. I have a lot of good memories of going to multiple concerts of theirs over the years. We sure did have a lot of fun. I’m glad you enjoyed this video. If you like their stage presence, then you should watch their video of PANAMA. That’s entertaining as well.
Your reaction is how I felt listening to this song for the first time as a kid in Jr. High School. My friend had this album on cassette tape and let me borrow it. I had to listen to it over again as soon as it ended. Great song. Brings back so many memories.
His son Wolfgang is carrying the torch now with Mammoth wVh. Check him out. Don't expect his father. I would suggest The song Distance a tribute to his late father. He also was nominated for a Grammy award for it.
Eddie Van Halen. RIP. Was one of the greatest guitarist of all time. Incredible Late 70s, 80s & 90s band. Eddie was married to the beautiful Valerie Bertinelli actress.
I love how you're honest and transparent about your music prejudice as a younger person. It's so cool to see you appreciate Generation X music. Eddie and his older brother Alex (drummer) are classicly-trained pianists. On the ship ride coming to America from Holland, they got paid to play music with their dad to pay their fare. They were poor and didn't speak English. The other kids bullied them in school so much, they kept to themselves and spent hours at home practicing music. Eddie was too poor to be able to buy sound accessories for his guitar so he had to learn how to create unique tones with only the guitar and his amplifier. By teaching himself, Eddie introduced a playing style radically different from anyone else. Have you heard Beat It by Michael Jackson? That guitar solo is Eddie Van Halen!
I cried the day i heard Eddie passed, i was in shock, was like someone had dropped bricks on top of me, there will never be another guitarist like him, RIP-Eddie Van Halen, you are truly missed
The thing about Rock is that there is not one type only. To truly explore it you would have to go back to the 50's with Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, and that whole time frame, fast forward to the early 60's and you have the beginning of the British Invasion with the beginning of the Beatles. Then came all of that sound, the Hippies with their Peace & Love acoustic sound, then you get Led Zeppelin and the beginning of thought provoking music with bands like Yes, and Jethro Tull and the seventies had all of that. You had Bad Company, Boston, Kansas, Heart, just to name a few, then the 80's which was all over the map, then you had the 90's with a darker tone to it. You would definitely would be jumping down a HUGE rabbit hole. By the way, this song, Jump was from 1984
You should watch their video for the song 'Panama' if you want to see them have even more fun! It involves the band-members being hooked up to a rope and slung around the stage during a live concert :D
You are amazing and intuitive. Your attention to Eddie’s range of prodigal talent is a first of all reactions I’ve watched for this song. You actually listen! Kudos!
Hi Ashley - you definitely witnessed an 80's classic video - this was an awesome song back in the day and today. Since you like the stage performance with instruments that today's musicians don't do as much, I would like you to react to the greatest 3 member band in rock history Rush. It will be a first for you and will absolutely blow you away! They are the most talented trio ever and the song to react to is Xanadu Exit Stage Left (Stick Hits HD version). It's a live concert video from 1981 - the song is from 1977. You will never witness anything like it. The Rush rabbit hole awaits you!!!
You are spot on about them being performers. Back in the 70s and 80s, most bands left nothing on the stage. They gave 100% for their fans. It could be Van Halen, Rush, Judas Priest, KISS, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Pink Floyd, Heart, MIchael Jackson...you name it. Too many bands now just phone it in and there has definitely been a drop in musicianship.
I used to say i rock was not for me too until i actually listened to it. I love watching u react to rock songs and the way u evaluate it pls pls do more.❤😊
LOVE this reaction! So great to see someone experiencing another of the great rock bands! Keep going down the rabbit hole of rock; you're going to love it!!
Ashley, thank you for bringing back the memories for me. I've seen these guys in concert several times way before you were even born (1970's and early 80's) and they were always amazing. It is fantastic that you appreciate a varied collection of genre's. I'm subscribing to see what else you have to say. I loved it!!!
Ashley I was a lot like you, but in the opposite way; I was never a fan of R&B & Rap/Hip Hop. I've now come to realize Rock and Roll and R&B/Hip Hop have a lot in common; and I've definitely gone down the rabbit hole with Snoop Dogg, Tank, 2 Live Crew, 2Pac and Notorious. I've opened up a whole new world of music and I love it.
The late GREAT Eddie Van Halen playing guitar and organ one of the greatest When you can check out "Fooled Around and fell in Love" by Elvin Bishop live at the Midnight Special 1976 I think you will love it
I've seen Van Halen many times, the times I've seen them with David Lee Roth; he stole the show. He may not have the greatest vocals, but he is the ultimate showman. That was proven when I saw the Roth/Hagar tour, he outperformed Hagar on stage. It was a great time in rock probably the best vocalists of the time were in Skid Row and Queensryche. Enjoy the 80s, We did.
Eddie was not a classicall trained guitarist but a classical trained pianist. When the brothers were young Ed started on drums and Alex on guitar. Thank God they soon switched instruments. Their father Jan van Halen was also a good musician. He played the clarinet and is heard on the song "Big Bad Bill (is sweet William now)" on Van Halens 'Diver Down' album.
Your reaction validates what I think of Van Halen (and music from my generation growing up in the 70's and 80's). It's fire. Before auto tune, people actually had to have talent.
You move in mysterious ways.❤ I love anyone who loves Eddie and our Van Halen. We welcome all because rock is about the healthy partying and grabbing your significant other to rock all night.
EVH plays both guitar and keyboard in the video. He must have recorded each separately for the studio version and I read Alan Fitzgerald played keyboard off stage for their concerts. Never knew this until now.
I haven’t met one older person who wants to be young again because they would have missed all that and they certainly don’t want this that we have now. I agree. I would have missed the Beatles, Cream and Hendrix years as well as a far more peaceful society.
I recommend the Van Halen Diver Down they play with their musician father , who was a clarinet Player Song is called Big Bad Bill is sweet William now .it'll show Eddie's Versatility as well as they others..
I do believe I just watch Ashley become a Van Halen fan right before my very eyes. AND....I know for a 100% that she also became an Eddie Van Halen fan. Probably has a little bit of a crush on him. :). Love this one Ashley.
Oooh, I gotta see if she's done "Why Can't This Be Love." It doesn't have the legendary David Lee Roth, but Sammy Hagar is no slouch, and it also has some Prolific Keyboard playing from Eddie Van Halen.
Van Halen was a feel-good band. Eddie Van Halen was an amazing guitarist and Diamond Dave was the perfect athletic, charismatic front man. Check their song "Panama" out next. Also: "Hot for Teacher."
Hey Ashley keep checking out these videos from the 80's and the 70's. It was an amazing Era I lived through in my teens and 20's. Still listening and going to see my bands that are still playing at a young 62 years old 😂
Eddie Van Halen is considered one of best guitarist of all time. We was married to Valerie Bertinelli for over 25 years (until 2007). Sadly he passed away in 2020. Enjoy your rock journey!
There is so much to explore in rock as a genre….so many styles and so much history you’ve only just begun…enjoy this journey!
This song was the jam back in the summer of 84!
Their stage presence is insane
Can we just spotlight this drummer though!!!? Goddaammmm! He was killing it from the gate! He went off!👌🏾🎶
Alex Van Halen.
To be 25 years old in the in the 80's was the best of times. Ashley gets it.
Ah, the great Eddie Van Halen on lead guitar AND keyboard - one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Thanks for another terrific reaction.
Just pure joy...this song always lifts my spirits.
Van Halen concerts were the ultimate parties in the 80's.
It sure did look like the place too be !!!😂💖
Saw them 3 times in my life when they were at their peek of there career in Montréal ❤
@ashleyreacts “Get your foot off my neck”. You are what I call a wordsmith! You should be a writer. Honestly, you articulated that feeling so well.
I grew up in the 80's and they are my favorite band with the raw energy. WOW and you are right, you do not see that any more.
I loved watching Eddie Van Halen playing his guitar. He was so gorgeous. RIP Eddie...
Love your reactions. You have no idea how much fun you are about to have discovering MUSICIANS that not only can sing but play instruments as well. Wait until you find lyrics that completely punch you right in the heart. That's when you know you are hooked.

Saw this concert, well when it came to Spokane, Washington in 1979-1980. They sounded just like this 🙋🏼♀️
Great band and concert 🎶
Ashley your reactions had me smiling all with you.. what a beautiful soul you have.♥️

Eddie also played the guitar solo in MJ’s song, Beat It. He actually changed the original solo up a bit and Michael loved it!
He also did it for free, and no acknowledgement!! 🔥♥️
I remember when MTV actually played music videos and this came out. They would show it a couple times during the day. Everyone needs Van Halen in their life. EVH is Guitar God. Thank you

It’s already up ! He went crazy !! 🥰
"Jump" was the very first Van Halen song/video I ever heard when I was 9 years old and to this day almost 40 years later it's still awesome!
Im a black man i was 13 when this came out
Me and my cousins were hooked
Look at the live version of
Dance the night away
This is a feel good song Ashley! Thanks for reacting!🎉
If I could play the guitar that good I'd be smiling too! Eddie was the G.O.A.T.!!!
Van Halen was one of the Biggest groups of the 1980s.and of ALL Time!!!!

This was MTV's very first Video of the year. Cost $6000 to mkae but captured Van Halen perfectly.
Earned my subscription from this 🙌 first video I've watched of yours and I just loved how you were feeling it in your soul 💛
Girl I loved watching you react to this. Keep them coming
I'm sitting here with tears of joy running down my face while enjoying Ashley's reaction to this song. Sic transit gloria Mundi.

It was the 80’s we done it all❤
1984 was one of the first albums I bought when I was a kid. I graduated high school in 1984 and this album spoke to my time.
This is the reaction that song deserves!
Keep going!
Ok I know you will love this one
👉 Pound Cake 🍰👈
Different singer but just as good.
I was 13 when this came out. I had such a crush on Eddie Van Halen in this video. Purple Rain also came out that year.
There's a huge catalog of Van Halen so many hits
I wish I could go back in time and attend one of their concerts
Of course great feel good song. You bring me back to my high school years in the mid '80's.
Watching your react to this brought me BACK! I was in high school when this came out. Happy music! I nearly forgot how wonderful Eddie Van Halen was!
I love how you're honest and transparent about your music prejudice as a younger person. It's so cool to see you appreciate Generation X music. Glad you coming around to classic rock and classic R&B. I'm 66. Best music ever❤
You should watch their video for the song 'Panama' if you want to see them have even more fun! It involves the band-members being hooked up to a rope and slung around the stage during a live concert :D
Same stage presence that had back in the beginning during the Hollywood club days when we use to play with them.
You are amazing and intuitive. Your attention to Eddie’s range of prodigal talent is a first of all reactions I’ve watched for this song. You actually listen! Kudos!
Night Ranger, Styx, Steve Miller Band, Journey, Foreigner, REO Speedwagon and so much more
Awesome reaction.

Hi Ms. Ashley, Mr. David is very flexible and athletic, he does several things one them is Rock Climbing.. ♠W.G.
THE BEST VAN HALEN, ETERNAL
Of course, they have great stage presence. Jeff Spicoli blew all the reward money to getting Van Halen to play at his birthday party for a reason.
I've seen Van Halen many times, the times I've seen them with David Lee Roth; he stole the show. He may not have the greatest vocals, but he is the ultimate showman. Welcome, to Van Halen.
Welcome to the world of hard rock. You will love it here❣
Eddie Van Halen was married to Valerie Bertinelli from TV and they had a son named Wolfgang who's an excellent musician too
I haven’t met one older person who wants to be young again because they would have missed all that and they certainly don’t want this that we have now. I agree. I would have missed the Beatles, Cream and Hendrix years as well as a far more peaceful society.
I recommend the Van Halen Diver Down they play with their musician father , who was a clarinet Player Song is called Big Bad Bill is sweet William now
.it'll show Eddie's Versatility as well as they others..
I loved Jump in the day and Sultans of swing Alchemy get me going
We were crazy back then. I saw them in a back yard party in Arcadia Ca When i was in Highschool
I do believe I just watch Ashley become a Van Halen fan right before my very eyes. AND....I know for a 100% that she also became an Eddie Van Halen fan. Probably has a little bit of a crush on him. :). Love this one Ashley.
This is Van Halen’s best song in my opinion
You nailed it with you got to roll with the punches
Oooh, I gotta see if she's done "Why Can't This Be Love." It doesn't have the legendary David Lee Roth, but Sammy Hagar is no slouch, and it also has some Prolific Keyboard playing from Eddie Van Halen.
Van Halen was a feel-good band. Eddie Van Halen was an amazing guitarist and Diamond Dave was the perfect athletic, charismatic front man. Check their song "Panama" out next. Also: "Hot for Teacher."
pure joy,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,ya got ta roll with the punches,,ta git ta whats real
3:06 "I ain't the worst that you've seen..Can't you see what I mean" Trying to get her home, Let's get a room kinda thing.
Another feel good song of theirs to try, "Dance the Night Away."
Hey Ashley keep checking out these videos from the 80's and the 70's. It was an amazing Era I lived through in my teens and 20's. Still listening and going to see my bands that are still playing at a young 62 years old 😂
I am so amused by your love for Eddie!
🤘The hole concert rocks🤘
🤘RIPEVH🤘
I am glad you liked Van Halen. Now it's time for you to hear Queen's (Bohemian Rhapsody)
