@@hiteshgujarathi4636to each one his own melody and style and that's what makes this song such an epic adventure that me myself a guy from a different culture and a different country in a whole different continent with a different mother tongue as well ( I'm from Iraq ) yet still knows about all those artists and their styles. Steve is still recognized as THE VOICE while Bruce is also known as the Boss, Steve had it naturally in him to reach high notes and literally swim through em notes while Bruce was blessed with a smart brain and a touch of art which made him come up with amazing songs and he's an amazing storyteller, second to none but the Poet himself Bob Dylan. The only guy I truly wish was on this album, only to add more gravel and grit to the record, is John Fogerty from CCR yet unfortunately I believe he was still busy dealing with all the lawful and courtly crap which his record company had put him through He would have been an amazing addition to this masterpiece adding his gritty and bluesy voice to this immortal record.
I’m 23 and I agree the music scene today is trash. You have to literally search to find good music now. I wish we still had music like the 80’s and 90’s. Also Michael Jackson is of course the greatest entertainer of all time. The King of Pop.
The singer you don’t recognize is the one and only James Ingram. One of my most favourite and popular singers in the 80s. Thank you so much for this video. I am 58 and have a Bachelor of Music from McGill University. Listening to this masterpiece of vocal talent right now was like watching for the first time bringing chills down my spine. It is amazing how an old song can be like new again when not having listened to it in such a long time. Thank you so much again for your musical critique. I have really been listening to Donna Summer of late and would love to hear you critique her superb voice with any one of her many, many songs. All the best, 💕.
Thanks! I love his voice but I couldn't place him. I was in college at the time and I didn't watch TV that much. Donna Summer had a great voice. She was so iconic in that era that it was easy to forget she was a super solid vocalist.
I still remember around the time the movie _An American Tail_ was released. If you had the radio on a popular music station at any given time, chances are you were going to be hearing James Ingram, if not immediately, then within just a few minutes. :D
@@JoanRudith according to QuestLove, Michael had written a vocal game of horse between Prince and he, Prince would be forced to follow Michael into a crescendo that was out of register for Prince, but IN register for Michael. Prince looked at the part, recognized it and decided not to show. Prince was replaced at the last minute with Huey Lewis.
Actually, about male rock pop singers, Steve Perry and Fredie Mercury are the best singers of all time. That's not only about training, as MJ. They are really really gifted.
They are all great, but when Michael Jackson sings it really takes you to a different dimension. His voice is so soft but powerful at the same time. I miss you King💕
Any song that Michael Jackson adds his vocals becomes a song you want to listen to again and again. Michael has the voice of an angel with captivating dance moves. We will never see a once in a lifetime performer like Michael again.
Fun fact about Bruce Springsteen in this video. He had played a concert in Buffalo, NY until midnight - drove all the way to NYC (which is 8+ hours away) and arrived 20 minutes prior to them starting. I believe that he double-parked his pickup in the street in order to make it on time. And then he walks up to the mic and KILLED it. All the singers are LEGENDS! I especially like the range of Cyndi Lauper as well...
Springsteen didn't drive 8 hours to NYC. The recording session was in LA the night of the American Music Awards show, which was the night *after* Springsteen's concert in Buffalo. He flew to LA and drove himself to the studio from the airport.
I read a couple of amusing stories that you might like, about the making of this video. One was that Stevie Wonder announced that if anyone didn't want to check their ego at the door, he and Ray Charles could drive them home. The other was that the sound engineers heard some strange jingling, clinking sound that they couldn't identify. It turned out to be Cindy Lauper's bracelets.
good story...heres another one while nearly all the Performers showed up in Limos Bruce Springsteen rented a pick up truck found his way to the studio and drove there like a regular blue collar guy LOL
Actually can watch that happen when they discovered what the sounds were coming from in some of these short "Making of..." UA-cam videos. I believe there is one featuring Cyndi by herself.
Valerie, that was beautiful. I love your smile. It´s so obvious you love music. I can relate. It makes me happy and this was just so lovely to hear it again. Michael is dearly missed!!!!
Lilly F, I absolutely loved Bruce Springsteen's voice. The man seemed like he was in real pain, especially when he and Stevie Wonder came in together. They all killed it, but Bruce killed it, woke it back up and then killed it again!! He gave me chills when he said, "We are the world!!!! We are the children"!!! (the man seemed like he wanted to birth something out) and another part was, "There's a choice we're making and we're saving our own lives".......
@@CherylDavis321 I just read above that Bruce had driven all night (like the Cindy song!), double parked and got in there in the nick of time!!!! That man's energy for god's sake!
My brother and I was recently talking about the point you were making at the beginning. We were kids in the eighties but we remember enough to know that that was probably the best era for music because there were so many talented, distinctive and very creative people who had their own sound and look and they were mostly seasoned because they spent years cultivating their craft before they made the big time. We loved those eighties artists and didn't give a thought about their ages because we connected with their music, talent and their unique kind of magic. I totally agree that the industry needs to bring back maturer artists who got real talent, uniqueness and magic no matter what their age!
Beautiful how all these people stand together and just sing. No matter what skin colour. They are just doing amazing music and they have a wonderful time together. This harmony is crazy! We need some spirit like that back.
Please tell me I'm not the only one that gets chills every time they hear this song... the talent in that room at one time, astounding. And the solo's were paired perfectly
I’m a session musician . Great job ! My take away ... I’ve never heard Stevie Wonder so dialed in . Outstanding . When MJ comes in at the bridge , it’s just different . In his own class . Daryl Hall, Steve Perry and Cyndi Are a cut above with voice control. And then there is Ray :)
I agree Music today is all about revealing clothes. Bashing other artist. Saying and doing crazy things. I'm young I wasn't even born then but, this music means more to me and has a better message than music today and it sets and example for me.
So glad they included Ray Charles, Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson. All the vocal combination choices sounded fantastic. Steve Perry has the most amazing voice, so powerful and pure.
I could not agree more that we are missing out on the more mature singers. You really have to hunt for them, because the ones being shoved in our faces are the under 30s
I wish Freddie Mercury was in this, him and Michael would have been great in this video, all with all of the other legends... I love this massive crossover!!
@@andredavidkilian4607 Yeah, *USA* for Africa. The Brits already had Band Aid. The absence of Brits does make you think how many huge artists on the US charts in the early 80s were British.
Yeah she's good but If I'm being honest michael was the only one not trying to belt anything out he was casual singing and yet he sang with such purity and sincerity that's true unmatched talent right there! Just my opinion lol
Looove Willie Nelson. He's awesome. And always loved the bit between Bruce Springsteen and Stevie Wonder. Their voices are so different but still it works 👌🏼
It was an AMAZING pair up that the one & only Quincy Jones knew would work! Just thinking of SECRET GARDEN…he picked 4 perfect but VERY DIFFERENT artists for that song! Al B. Sure, James Ingram, El Debarge & Barry White…only Quincy!!!
Michael Jackson is one of the most famous people in this planet's history, and this was him at his peak. If anyone could assemble a cast like this, it was him. He was a celebrity among celebrities. Larger than life. I love Valerie's take here. You can close your eyes and recognize all these artists by voice. They each had their own identity. No one has to tell us 80's kids about diversity, we've been there already. We had it all in the 80's. Listened to everything, all genres. Only then it wasn't called diversity. Simply talent. No one cared what you looked like. Can you sing, write, dance and bring something to the table we don't have already. That was the 80's.
those were true singers not talkers like today . I quit listening to the radio along time ago I personally fine today's music degrading and vugar. that's why I spend my time listening to youtube because there are great singers out there but you only find them on here . thank you so much

James Ingram did YAMO BE THERE with MICHAEL MCDONALD…I DON’T HAVE THE HEART…HOW DO YOU KEEP THE MUSIC PLAYING with Patti Austin & SECRET GARDEN (a Quincy Jones colab)! James Ingram may be a great react artist for you!
This has been a favorite of mine ever since it was released, and I have fun today watching the astonishment of young reactors when they watch and listen for the first time. For the singers, it must have been an incredible experience being able to perform with so many people just as talented as they are, each with their own recognizable talent and sound, but all blending into each other so wonderfully.
What I love most about this is that there was no egos in the room and they all looked like they just walked in off the street as casual as you like. It was all about The voices. Dionne Warwicks voice is to die for such beautifully rich golden tones.
Just everything in this video is beyond magical. The amount of talent brought together, the song itself, both musically and lyrics, everyone doing their part without compromising their own style, all the duets just “work”, don’t know why but they’ve all spot on, the whole energy in that room. Just mind blowing. The reason they made this song is very sad, but it’s definitely one of the highlights in music history. And sadly it’ll probably never again bc the music industry killed music. But luckily we have the internet and we can watch masterpieces like this
I love this song. Thank you. I've listened to a lot of reactions to this song and most of the reactors could only identify 10 to 20 percent of these legendary singers. You knew most of them.
I am in your age group. This was a trip down memory lane. Thanks for your observation. I hadn't really thought about how much variety we had when we were growing up. I would have never heard Dimash and other singers if not for UA-cam.
That was wonderful Valerie, brought back some old memories. it feels like it was just yesterday when I saw it for the first time. my how time flies. thank you for that one Valerie. just awesome...I have to say Valerie, The Nostalgia actually brought tears to my eyes..
The Boss (Bruce Springsteen) is so sincere and so powerful that you would think he would destroy the famine single-handedly! A great, sincere and human artist! His duet with Steve is unsurpassable!
I love how you weren't afraid to call out today's pop music for what it is. The popular opinion is that everyone is entitled to make music how they want, but so many people ignore the blatant quality drop since the early 2000s. So many of today's artists compensate for a lack of musical effort by making the performances more visually "appealing," and for some reason that works. I think this is one of the main reasons older singers aren't as popular anymore: music has become just as much about looks as it is about sound. I used to think I hated pop music, but then I took a course called Popular Music In the US during my first semester at college. That's when I learned the difference between pop music as a genre and pop music as a status, and that changed my whole perspective. I got really excited when you mentioned Twenty One Pilots and how they actually built something musically rather than fishing for a disposable hit. Of all the current bands/singers that I've listened to (and I'll be the first to admit: I mostly listen to music that came out before I was born), they are, in my opinion, the most original. Despite all of this, I don't feel like I was born in the wrong generation. I'm so glad to have the internet so I can listen to hundreds of different artists from all eras. Those who genuinely do like today's pop music should absolutely keep listening to it- no one should be able to decide what music is "good" or "bad"- but I really wish my generation had some legends of its own, y'know?
Was truly blessed to be coming of age during this momentous gathering but i gotta tell ya at 53 I'm completely falling in love with Cyndy Lauper again or even more so.
bravo madam, among all the reactions that I saw on this song you are the only one who recognized all the artists you are part of this beautiful generation which recognized the most beautiful voices
i was born years after the 80s but i grew up listening to this at least twice a week. it was my favourite song to sing along to at that time, couldn't have come across anything better, because i became a huge fan of mj and a few other extremely amazing artists in this music video. i have my parents and youtube to thank for that haha!

Could You please do a response on Jackie Wilson doing Sullivan Show in the 50's when he dose "To Be Loved, Lonely Teardrops & At Last". His Vocal Range is Incredible. You can see that he sings live because the mic picks up his handclaps and foot pats. He and James Brown were Michael Jackson idols.
The only guy I truly wish was on this album, only to add more gravel and grit to the record, is John Fogerty from CCR yet unfortunately I believe he was still busy dealing with all the lawful and courtly crap which his record company had put him through
He would have been an amazing addition to this masterpiece adding his gritty and bluesy voice to this immortal record.
Epic for sure!!
Bruce Springstein's makes me shiver. Him & Stevie together...amazing!...& Cindi Lauper was the poster child of 80's
I’m 23 and I agree the music scene today is trash. You have to literally search to find good music now. I wish we still had music like the 80’s and 90’s. Also Michael Jackson is of course the greatest entertainer of all time. The King of Pop.
#MJKingofmusic
Really old people and many young ones who don’t know these singers always stop and take notice when Steve Perry does his bit.
You can't miss Steve Perry's voice once you've heard it.
So true. I didnt appreciate his voice until he was on this song. It is soooo beautiful and clear. I was an instant fan
The absolutely best male rock voice in my opinion, love him!! 🤘
I'm always doin' it, even when I heard it 1000 Times and then I repeat his and Loggins part 10 Times before I go on 😁😁
Quincy jones got everyone together, using michael as bait lol
“come work on this song”
“idk quincy”
“michaels on it”
“im at the door”
😅😅😅
@Estella right, it was after a music award show, everyone at the show was invited, the only prerequisite was *leave your ego at the door.*
And that bait was exactly why Prince didn't show up. lol He was smelling himself cuz he had just won the most awards that night.
😂😂😂😂
@@JoanRudith according to QuestLove, Michael had written a vocal game of horse between Prince and he, Prince would be forced to follow Michael into a crescendo that was out of register for Prince, but IN register for Michael. Prince looked at the part, recognized it and decided not to show. Prince was replaced at the last minute with Huey Lewis.
Michael Jackson can sing like none other but Steve Perry just hits my heart ❤️
Actually, about male rock pop singers, Steve Perry and Fredie Mercury are the best singers of all time. That's not only about training, as MJ. They are really really gifted.
The Avengers of music coming together.
Now I can't unsee this!!! Good job
ASSEMBLE
They are all great, but when Michael Jackson sings it really takes you to a different dimension. His voice is so soft but powerful at the same time. I miss you King💕
OMG no dispute about it MJ forever
I don't care what anyone says but this is the greatest song of all time. MIC DROP!
Any song that Michael Jackson adds his vocals becomes a song you want to listen to again and again. Michael has the voice of an angel with captivating dance moves. We will never see a once in a lifetime performer like Michael again.
Quincy Jones’s son Rockwell’s song would NOT have been what it was without MJ’s “I ALWAYS FEEL LIKE SOMEBODY’S WATCHING ME””
I love Michael Jackson !! Loved his gifted Talents ! His love for people and for kids and just his humor he had !!
Cyndi Lauper really stood out as fantastic in this production!
I agree!
@@VocalSplendorStudios me too ( euphemism)
Love her creativity. She improvised her part, and that bridge makes the song. 🔥
The star power in this video will never be duplicated. I graduated high school in 85 and this was a huge moment in music history.
NY. It was recorded in LA.
the testosterone was strong with this one!!! WOW

It was Quincy Jones who actually said check your egos at the door
Lol 😂 Cindy lauper I didn’t know that happened.
Oh and the check your ego at the door was Quincy Jones
Actually can watch that happen when they discovered what the sounds were coming from in some of these short "Making of..." UA-cam videos.
I believe there is one featuring Cyndi by herself.
That's actually in the behind the scenes video here on YT
I am just so very grateful that the 80’s happened at the right time in my life. It was magic.
My favorite voice: Steve Perry...holy shit he killed it
You know it.
As always
Always, always did. That man was born to sing live, just amazing. Still love him!
Steve ❤❤❤❤❤
Always does
Could you imagine being in the room with all them legends in one room. Literally would die
The guy at 10:13 is James Ingram. He died in january 2019
Definitely one of the most beautiful moments in music history. This song should be re released. This song is still so relevant today
Valerie, that was beautiful. I love your smile. It´s so obvious you love music. I can relate. It makes me happy and this was just so lovely to hear it again. Michael is dearly missed!!!!
Best voices to come out of nowhere: Cyndi Lauper, Bruce Springsteen, Michael Jackson, Ray Charles and Steve Perry
facts, and any list of great voices without stever perry would be a lie
James Ingram (who she didn't know who he was) seems to be very underrated. His voice belongs to this list as well.
@@bigfrankfraser1391 you don't realize how unbelievably great his voice is until you try to sing his part lol
No auto tune no enhancers, just pure raw talent. The 70s and 80s had the best music
Exactly. Even pop music was pretty mature and sophisticated back then. It wasn't all about teenagers.
A current talent worth looking into... Rhiannon Giddens... multi-instrumentalist, singer/songwriter... the whole package....
I wish Freddie Mercury was in this, him and Michael would have been great in this video, all with all of the other legends... I love this massive crossover!!
He's British. This is American event
@@andredavidkilian4607 Yeah, *USA* for Africa. The Brits already had Band Aid.
The absence of Brits does make you think how many huge artists on the US charts in the early 80s were British.
@@andredavidkilian4607 Bob Geldof was in the chorus for this
I wish John Denver could have sung in this group. He would have loved to be a part of USA for Africa.
This brings back memories of my childhood. 85 was so golden and Michael Jackson was alive and well.
Michael Jackson 💯✌️👑....so many good happy memories...so many fantastic amazing times
Still get goosebumps when Cyndi Lauper belts out her part
Yeah she's good but If I'm being honest michael was the only one not trying to belt anything out he was casual singing and yet he sang with such purity and sincerity that's true unmatched talent right there! Just my opinion lol
I heard a comment that Kim Cranes looked annoyed that Cindy sang” yeah, yeah, yeah,!
@analogkid4957 No, they were talking about having her add something. And Kim and Cyndi were joking around and supporting each other in the footage.
Looove Willie Nelson. He's awesome.
And always loved the bit between Bruce Springsteen and Stevie Wonder. Their voices are so different but still it works 👌🏼
Can't forget MJ lol
One thing I love in this song are the duets, people singing in harmony that otherwise would never have sung together.
Good point!
how can you not show the part where michael says "when you are out and down"? this is the moment when his voice outshines everyone else!
those were true singers not talkers like today . I quit listening to the radio along time ago I personally fine today's music degrading and vugar. that's why I spend my time listening to youtube because there are great singers out there but you only find them on here . thank you so much
I totally agree. I'm so tired of the lip-syncing, dancing puppets posing as musicians.
@@VocalSplendorStudios I totally agree I've found a whole bunch of great actual singers from all over the world.
@@VocalSplendorStudios no hate but a lot of peole lip synced back then as well but I do have to say I prefer older music
@@hannahmoore8423 I would say that some people lip synced but most did not. The lip syncing, dancing trend started with Madonna and Janet Jackson in the 90's.
@@VocalSplendorStudios maybe so but I have noticed older artist lip syncing but not as much as new artists I think the older ones did it cause they were sick or to preserve thier voice while some of the newer singers lip synced cause they haven't got a voice as far as the dancing goes I dont mind it as long as its actually dancing
I love that song since 30 years. They were amazing singers.
That guy was James Ingram huge star and he wrote MJ's P.Y.T.
Steve Perry should of had a bigger singing part.
You really get to hear all the different fach and vocal weight of the various singers. Thinking Steve Perry compared to Daryl Hall.
Exactly! There was so much variety!
But luckily we have the internet and we can watch masterpieces like this
Everybody in this song is phenomenal, and I love MJ, but Steve Perry's voice is superior!
I love this song. Thank you. I've listened to a lot of reactions to this song and most of the reactors could only identify 10 to 20 percent of these legendary singers. You knew most of them.
lol... this was my era. :D
JAMES INGRAM! THE MAN YOU DIDN'T KNOW...RIP JAMES TY FOR YOUR GENIUS

There will never be this much talent in 1 room ever again. Unbelievable!!!
Best combination possible: Ray Charles and then Boss/S.Wonder
I am in your age group. This was a trip down memory lane. Thanks for your observation. I hadn't really thought about how much variety we had when we were growing up. I would have never heard Dimash and other singers if not for UA-cam.

React to Michael Jackson already! The King of Pop Popular Music and Greatest Entertainer of all Time!
Don't worry, enough of us know that pop is popular music. It has two meanings. One is the genre, the fluff, the other is popular music.
I miss the 80's. Everything was so good and free
Michael Jackson FOREVER the best! And just fyi he was 26 when he did this 😜
bravo madam, among all the reactions that I saw on this song you are the only one who recognized all the artists you are part of this beautiful generation which recognized the most beautiful voices
The guy you didn't know was James Ingram...sadly he passed away this year...
i was born years after the 80s but i grew up listening to this at least twice a week. it was my favourite song to sing along to at that time, couldn't have come across anything better, because i became a huge fan of mj and a few other extremely amazing artists in this music video. i have my parents and youtube to thank for that haha!
This makes me cry every time. So much talent in one room! ❤️
The Gentleman who you didn't know was James Ingram who worked with Quincy and wrote P.Y.T for Michael Jackson's Thriller. He's Also Know for Singing "One Hundred Ways" for Quincy's "The Dude" Album in 1980.
Michael Jackson acknowledges him when he wins the album of the year for "Thriller" in 1984. Michael Jackson Says "Some people make the path and Jackie Wilson was a great Entertainer". Jackie Wilson influenced Elvis Presley, David Ruffin, Smokey Robinson, James Brown & Michael Jackson. He Was Great Entertainer and Vocalist with a operatic voice. he also did "Baby Workout" in 1965 on Shingding Show.
Still such a beautiful and spiritually moving classic.
I watched this when I was 10 years....the greatest artists together. Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie wrote this song. Love when Michael/Diana ross sing...but my favourite is Springsteen/Stevie wonder part...and Ray Charles.....gave so much soul & funk.
