Fun fact: the original artist, Josh-S26, responded to the person who "fixed" their art that they forgot to remove Scooby because Scooby wasn't even in the Velma spin-off.
@KrimsonKattYT Canon or not people expect the characters retain their core character and aspects on top of having the writing fit even if it's a spinoff or whatever. This is something i think some who make these kind of things like Velma never understand nor respect.
True I like to create my own characters who are poc and it's super fun to explore what you can do but some people are just curious about what it would look like for some characters to look like them or have their features I occasionally do it but not for representation or diversity just to see how creative I can get with it while also sticking to the original design I don't post them but it's just a fun thing to do in your past time and if you wanna practice character design but that's just my take 💞💞💞🫂
I still can't believe that Scooby-Doo picture made Daphne yellow to represent Asians. They made a racist depiction of an Asian, since she's not only yellow as well as now has squinted eyes, but she's also the competent fighter of the group, which is an Asian stereotype, to somehow make representation. Overall, the art fixing is stupid and redundant, since it doesn't add representation, just stagnates it with no actual leaps.
@@quinnbie pretty sure that's what SEA stands for, being South East Asian, because nothing says great casting like making the main nerd character into an Asian.
@@X0.LA_BRAVA.X0 yeah, because we all know that Asians are yellow with apparent pointy eyes, not at all either pale or light brown with slightly pointed eyes from their monolids.
Reminds me of the situation with the Puss in Boots artist on Twitter. This person when 'The Last Wish' came out made an AMAZING rendition of Puss if he was a human, people were angry that his skin wasn't dark enough and said that latinas had darker skin. One, they couldn't even get Puss' nationality right (He's a Spaniard) and two, someone could literally be any skin colour! Like A Latina could have lighter or darker skin, as long as the artist isn't being racist who cares?
THIS!!! I'm literally Mexican and I have the palest skin ever, and it's not uncommon for other mexicans to have pale skin either. It's so stupid to assume specific races can ONLY have one color and that's it
These people must think that everyone in south America:Brazil, México, Argentina and etc. Are dark skinned, bro in Brazil more than 43% of the people are white, that's fucking 80 Million 💀
Im Mexican and a lot of my friends are, guess what, WHITE, and all of them are Mexicans also, I don’t understand this thing of if you are of a pale skin, you can’t be latino.
I’m starting to notice that when all these SJWs are calling people racists, they are actually projecting themselves to white people. They probably think that since they themselves are white, and have racist views, then everyone who is white must secretly have them too because they failed to realise that not everyone in a single race are clones of each other.
I think forced inclusivity hurts creativity rather than helps it. I wouldn’t consider it foundational to media. Art shouldn’t be manipulated to fill a race or gender quota. Instead of creating their own characters, ppl just change established characters to fit their own desires. Wouldn’t it be better for the ppl crying about inclusivity to create new art themselves, enriching the world with something novel rather than simply darkening something we’ve all seen before and pretending they did something significant?
This is probably the best point made on the art “fixing” problem, they cry about needing inclusivity, but instead of creating their own inclusive art, they change another one, it’s people pretending to be passionate about what they believe in but they just take the lazy route of changing something that already exists for no reason.
I 1000% agree. Keep creativity free! Also, creating their own stuff would involve these brats getting off their butts and doing something, which is beneath Twitter-holics.
@@Violet217 rather than throwing tantrum about representation why not they creating their own character. More authentic, original and of course unique if not using for dumb political agenda
It can be tough sometimes, though in the case of some things, when there can be a multiverse of stuff, it can be feasible but it doesn’t make it any less sucky sometimes. Especially if it can be done to be forceful, plus it isn’t just about diversity, it’s also about gender, sexual orientation, etc. and how it still comes off goddamn stupid when forced. I mean, I could be seen forcing some tweaks for an AU idea I’ve had for Marvel characters but I didn’t try to force it, a lot of it was just to do it because it’s an alternate reality even if it doesn’t mean it can be “right”, and I acknowledge that. Plus I wasn’t trying to “fix” someone’s work! So there’s a huge difference there too.
@@whatever5401 it somehow reminds me of an artist on Tiktok, that doesn't colour the skin (no matter which, they just don't colour it, an artstyle choice) and people are always bashing them when they see Kaeya's skin isn't colored. Somehow they can't see that other characters don't have it coloured too lol
It makes sense that these people are actual racists who then go and shove their prejudices onto real creative people. There is videos of anti-racist types racially abusing people for agreeing with the so-called racists, who are quiet and behaving themselves. It is essentially like how Voldemort has folks in Hogwarts pretending to be good and scared of the good ones. They blend in easily and the focus is on the ones who actually want to do good which would be Severus Snape when he was trying to stop Quirrell. These are the same types who badmouth Lovecraft for merely using words that were used back then. Words that are still used in rap songs.

"Do not forget that representation exists." So this version of the Mystery Crew that isn't even out officially, is barely a year old in the public eye via concept art and promotion art, and will be dropped once that show ends is more important than the default version of the crew that lasted for decades.
Remember the rule: "It's okay when we do it!" In all seriousness, it's either okay for both black-washing and white-washing to exist, or it's bad for either to exist. Whichever one you decide is morally correct is ultimately up to you, but at least be consistent. Either it's okay for everyone or it's okay for no one. (In case it's not clear, I'm talking about the people making these "fixes", not you Jack. You're great.)

Hard agree. If it's just a fun experiment or whatever and that's cool but people are shoving it down others throat like it's the law to the point where it just needs to stop
I really liked Candace because her skin shade exactly fits mine and her look overall is really close to what I look like irl, so seeing people blackwash her and saying her skin “wasn’t dark enough” felt kinda invalidating as a poc with tan skin.
candace was entirely based on a dark skinned woman and hoyo made her pale because they're very openly a racist company, she's quite literally whitewashed. hope this helps.
@@abanzahiri False. Her name was inspired incorrectly by Roman and Greek sources, and her design was inspired by Egyptian culture, which already has people who look like her. Source: The Genshin Impact Wiki article on Candace.
As a black person it was lowkey so annoying so see somebody recoloring Nahida the dendro archon and then proceeded to act like they fixed her! They even went so far as to say black washing doesn’t exist and called me a racist, I posted a pic of myself and they stopped responding 😂
That's what these people do and I know they're aware it exists, they just don't care and want to make you seem as the bad guy, that's how it always goes.
I'm really sick of seeing Genshin artists redesign Sumeru characters with darker skin when the scholars and residents of the big fancy cities having paler skin actually makes perfect sense both culturally and historically. Redrawing all of them to have darker skin goes to show how little they actually know/care about the supposed cultures they're trying to represent- which is also lowkey racist to assume all of a certain culture or ethnicity are the same.
Exactly! They only see skin tone but not the thought behind the designs. Personally I was very impressed with how much cultured the Genshin devs were with their choices of names, titles, roles and design!
@@kyperactive normally based in the game lore and world building the nation with most characters being dark skinned would be Natlan the Pyro nation. as an arab who is very pale…what the fuck are you even on about.? sumeru is meant to be representing not only the middle east, but also south asians. if they were ONLY representing arabs, then sure. making them mostly pale can just be them focusing on one of the countries with paler skin but they are quite literally telling people that they are representing a huge chunk of the continent who nowhere NEAR that pale. if they are claiming for them to be a certain culture and then just making them look like a white girl wearing a stereotypical halloween costume, then i think people redesigning them to look more accurate to their culture is perfectly fine.
My favorite 'Art Fixer' story was the artist who claimed to fix one of J. Scott Campbell's iconic Mary Jane covers. This caught the attention of Campbell himself, but when he gave advice on how to correctly position the illustration ( even redrawing the art himself and later selling it) the fixer complained he's only a kid and was backed by wannabes defending them! This controversy not only raised the price of the very comic from a $65 to a whopping $120 book, but sparked more interest into Campbell's work!
Honestly I thought Campbell was a bit embarrassing. He should have just ignored it like anyone else or embraced the illustrations ridiculousness. But at least it started the tread of people posing as Mary Jane, that was hilarious
As a Latina artist, never have I ever drawn a character to represent my race. Just saying. Why? Because I don't need characters to look like me or "represent" me in order to relate to a character. All of my favorite characters are White guys, and most of the characters I draw are either White or a nonexistent race.
@@thelying2594 Well you aren't alone. I just get ideas in mind for characters I want and draw them, their race or whatever is irrelevant to me. If you have an Insta or anything I'd be more than happy to follow a fellow artist.
The genshin ones are especially silly, cause like what are they trying to achieve? I get wanting darker characters, but "fixing" already existing ones won't do anything. Mihoyo will never see it, and even if they would, they wouldn't care. In the end if they're getting money there's no problem for them. Those people are just waisting their time😭
I don't think they're trying to "fix them" or trying to get mihoyo/hoyoverse (wtv it's called) to change the character..I think they just do it to have as a pfp ?? if they have common sense knowing mihoyo, they should know they won't do anything so Im pretty sure they're just doing it for fun as "representation" or something
It doesn't work in the art style anyway. You need to have a high contrast between skintone and linework for the face to be properly defined on a tiny phone screen, it's the same reason you don't draw with a black pen on black paper.
It's always ironic that art "Fixers" always just redraw characters with large lips and noses, hairy arms legs and usually dumpy and unattractive. A lot of things they complain about being stereotypes when Anime does them, if not just lazily blackfacing characters and calling themselves the _saviors of entertainment._
That’s probably because those are the type of people who are so insecure about their appearance, that they think that redrawing characters into looking like orcs will brainwash society into finding those losers attractive.
Yep, what's the point in doing characters look more realistic and ugly. This is anime, characters here is supposed to be extra in all aspects. We have many anime that close to realism. Why do they don't touch them but make extra character ugly
@@silhouette9699 Because they're usually of that lens of being subversive. Not wanting to bring politics to it, but it's imo a symptom of the crap that all that nonsense conditioned them into.
I'm tired of people "fixing" them to be a certain colour and then attacking the creators for not having diversity. Like, if you liked the character, wouldn't you like them for their personality, design, etc. and not focus solely on their race? Another thing that isn't really brought up is that in fantasy world, the people have different rules and such; not all media has to reflect the world we live in today. Also people attacking artists for not making characters "black enough" - like, lighter-skinned black people do exist. I've seen a lot of people defending black-washing because of lack of representation, but it's hypocritical. Editing other people's work is just rude in general without permission. Let people create what they want to create. Overall, great video. I always love your stuff, keep up the good work! Also (6:18): they literally edited/traced another person's artwork and have the audacity to put their watermark? Bruh.
True. I often draw human cartoon character from various series and race but in the same time making them odd coloured instead of blackwashing/white washing like so many people have done. Like green skinned Craig (in its cartoon he actually dark brown ) and blue Spinelli. Not for whatever agenda of course just for fun and draw them in my own style instead of tracing other art
Right! Also, it is stupid to compare the skin color of these characters with characters from a different story or real life ppl instead of characters in the same story .. Sometimes the character appears in a darker tone next to the characters from their story. It depends on the context of characters designing in their world
no because the genshin community is so toxic. artists say they're scared of drawing the darker skinned characters BECAUSE of how fast people attack them for not making their skin dark enough, despite there being some kind of skin tone regardless, which then leads to less diversity posted. it's literally having the reverse effect these people wanted in the first place
Agree. Art is freedom, we can interpret it the way we want. Creating something out of this world. Using real references in different setting with different approach also can be considered art. So, color-washing any art without permission and with malicious intent just because what they thought, isn't an art, it's destruction of property.
This is exactly the reason why I often draw my characters with unrealistic skin colors ( Red, Green, Grey, ect.). Can't be called racist if they don't have actual races.
Even in that case you aren't always safe. Like how some people proclaim dnd is racist because the "drow", a fantasy race of dark elves with usually dark blue or dark gray skin have an evil society (Mind you, very explicitly not all of them are evil, just one specific society of theirs) and they believe it's supposed to be hate against black people?? Honestly, these people are so far off they are racist again. If you see a fantasy race of elves that live in the underground and have dark fantasy skin colors and immediately think of real black people something is wrong with you.
@@crowsan2871 Eh, there no real deep lore, Tumblr was a cesspool of identity politics (including many forms that unheard of anywhere else, like "otherkin"), and many "artists" on the site took it upon themselves to "fix" other people's art (usually meaning either making them morbidly obese, removing all womanly features or raceswapping, sometimes all three). Then Tumblr banned porn and it's entire userbase fled to Twitter.
I'm reminded of the time I showed my coworker a comic with one of my characters who has small eyes and does not speak English well, and she complained that it's racist to make Asians talk like that. And then you got all the "reimaginations". Not the actual cool ones done for the sake of actually looking at what the character would look like if they originated from another culture for example, but the ones where a character is simply made black for the sake of it (Velma from the animated Velma show). Reimagination my ass, they made her skin darker and changed nothing else about the actual character.
9:21 I never really thought Fred was dumb. He's like the 2nd smartest out of the gang right after Velma. His traps sometimes work, he's really inventive, resourceful, and also he always adding new features to the Mystery Machine.
He's moreso been gradually dumbed-down over the years. His traps became a fixation where he can basically tunnel-vision how whatever plan is going to work, when likely a simpler solution will suffice. There's the annoying will-they-won't-they with Daphne that gets laid on REALLY thick in some movies... aaaaand some movies/shows give him this unhealthy "guy"-like fixation on cars, more specifically taking care of the Mystery Machine. It's a flanderization that's often in tandem with the writers wanting to make Daphne a girlboss with her fighting skills and independance, I think. So yeah, he comes off a lot more dumb and himbo-like in recent years.
@@HexManiacQuinn ok, but that doesn't explain why he's considered "the dumb one" or "the dumbest" in the group. Like Shaggy and Scooby are near borderline retarded, Scooby can somewhat excused because he's a dog.
In my opinion, stuff like Blacktober is a huge missing opportunity. Like, it could be just about black artists sharing their projects and ocs, but no, let's make a month dedicated to projecting and blackwashing characters. Why? Just why?
YES it’s such a missed opportunity! It just looks like they’re doing what a lot of companies are doing right now with media: race swapping already established characters because they cannot: a) come up with an original story with original poc characters, or b)doing it because it’s trendy race swapping for inclusivity 🥲 like I would love to see more works like Yasuke and other stories written by poc artists!
@@J0M1E8X It would be awesome. I would love to read/watch new stories, especially those based on less known cultures! It's a shame that lazyness is becoming the default nowadays.
I've never done Blacktober before but I'm very tempted to do it this way, just posting art of my OCs Daisy, Reginald and Alvin, and drawing other black characters I really like (such as the black Miis like Emma and Sakura; Cuba from Hetalia, Jackie from Cyberchase, Dr. Sweet from Atlantis and Tiana from The Princess and the Frog; and also humanizing some non-human characters as black humans, such as Spencer from Chipspeech or Jackson Storm from Cars 3.)
I just subscribed to FUCHIA BEACH'S channel and she literally tells Blacktober originally was about that; black artists sharing their projects, OCs and fanarts of already existing black characters. That changed because of one Final Fantasy AU fanart.
@@J0M1E8X As someone of mixed race (I'm a mix of white, black and indigenous) I always found Blacktober disrespectful, instead of changing the color and ethnicity of characters, why don't you create new ones? The bad thing is that if you criticize or question you are called a "racist"
I've always believed that if someone demands representation and inclusion and throws a tantrum when they don't get it, then they shouldn't get any until they can act like an adult.
I don't like race-swapping, either. But what if instead of people changing the race of a character to a show, what if they just made an awesome OC instead? That would be pretty cool! 😃 Not only is it creative, but that character would be their own separate character; with their own uniqueness. That's WAY BETTER than just making an already existing, non-black character, a black character. Now that I think about it, that kind of sounds like how the Persona series sells the same game with extra bonus characters! 🙁 I mean, I know that no one likes it when Persona does that, but at least it's not racist. Right? 🤣
The problem with that is that such an action ultimately requires *creativity*. That's the problem with all these art fixers, from the shittiest fan "artist" to the activists at the top of the Hollywood food chain like Lauren Hissrich that deep-sixed Netflix's Witcher. They *don't have creativity*, but they make up for it with hubris and fan-baiting. Reject them all.

Mate, I'm sorry nature blessed me or something. I didn't chose that. I would prefer smaller boobs tbh, my back and shoulders would like that too xD
Art fixers doesn’t deserve the title of artists or creators. They’re just another form of plagiarizers. 10:38 last time I saw an Asian person. They don’t all have yellow skin, maybe it’s also because I don’t think or notice people’s skin color
True. I'm personally more on the yellow side (actually it's somewhere between yellow and yellow-orange), but others still fall under reds and oranges and browns. Hell us Asians can still be naturally white without any white heritage lmfao
Most Asians are white lol. I’ve never seen an Asian with yellow skin, except some hands are slightly more yellow. I never even knew that yellow refers to us Asians. And we don’t all have small eyes either 😅 I don’t know if they’ve seen but most K-pop idols and some Asians have rounder eyes, and double eyelids too.
My sister jumped on the Candace was whitewashed train, too. I actually took a few minutes to google her origins and her name made sense (Candace was a name passed down to multiple queens apparently). I hate this idea that art needs to be “fixed”, especially for political reasons, it’s like telling an artist that their work is only acceptable if it aligns with the fixer’s ideals. This kind of stuff is pretty common in the Cookie Run fandom, from race all the way to gender identity.

Art fixer giving Daphne squinty eyes and literal yellow skin (which was used as an Asian stereotype way back in the 1930s or earlier): I'm progressive!
I hate double standards. The same people who colorize white characters black and brag about "fixing" them because there are too many white people in the picture, get furious when someone paints someone white in a picture with only black people. I hate changing the skin color of a character. If the creator made the character like that, it means it has to be like that. If it's black, it has to be black. It was yellow, red, green, white, so it should stay like that. The example I hate the most - Aventurine from honkai star rail. People colorize him because he lived in the desert, and desert people are black, yes? But no one read his lore, which says that he has never seen a sunrise, and the sky is always covered in clouds, so his skin is LIGHT AS PAPER. They literally are making him a black Snow White. Because they can.
6:18 so I'm told that this is actually quite racist since Shaggy was supposed to be an anti-stereotype of the age as apparently black people were treated as goofball idiots easily spooked by ghosts. This is the first time I’ve seen an actually good take on the topic of art fixing. So many people “fix” art and post it online, and everyone else sides with them instead of the creator that had their art disrespected, so it’s great to see someone call it out for once.
My chest is like non-existent. I remember the first time I discovered chest gravity/physics… one of my high school friend was larger and smaller than me, you know how weight repartition matters with chest size. Anyway she was big-chested, but I didn’t really think it through. She has a different body type is all. During a school trip, we were having fun in our hotel room. She started dancing and jumping around. My jaw went slack and my eyes went blank when I saw a big mass of skin going up while the other went in the opposite direction. I just didn’t know it was possible. She noticed my shock, laughed nervously and apologized. And I was like "no don’t be, you haven’t done anything wrong, I’m just not used to it at all". I felt bad for her and mentally scolded myself. Following that experience I wondered if the reason behind my shock was because I perceived her chest movements as sexual. It’s stupid actually- have you ever looked at a picture of what a breast looks like inside ? There is nothing more ew than the inside of a breast. And technically it’s just localized body fat. It’s just… flesh. So I’m kinda bored by the common reaction males have towards breasts. It’s okay always blushing, panick or sexualizing. Acting as if the thing itself is an invitation when it’s actually just a ball of flesh. It’s simply there. I’m positively surprised when female nudity can be shown without focusing on parts that arouse the spectator. I’ve found it in Ghost in the Shell movie and stranger yet Grisaia anime. In Grisaia a girl is changing her top, her breasts are visible for a momant and the dude that talks with her has no ambiguous reaction. He does not pay it mind, neither does she.
Finally!!! Someone who actually addresses it!! As someone in the genshin community it always bugged me when people blackwashed characters and were butthurt when ppl pointed it out. If you want more rep go somewhere else, don't do the same thing you see as bad (blackwashing is real and it's the same as whitewashing y'all)
I couldn’t agree more. I also find It just so annoying cause they’re saying “this is the skin color I IMAGINE (group of people) to always have and if you disagree your racist” and it’s just annoying to me.
EXACTLY, with Sumeru it has literally blown off my mind because this MF trully believe south asians and middle eastern people are all stereotypical african level of skin color! The light skinned characters are based on Persia meanwhile the tan ones are Egyptian, which if you search are literally olive tan skin tone. This is the exact thing that happened to Encanto where twitter believed us hispanic people must 100% be dark skinned when being hispanic isn't a race but a culture
there rhis one IG artist that keeps blackwashing anime/game characters from Asian country and they also think blackwashing doesn't exist. It irritate me how insensitive they are
Whitewashing is the erasure of culture and history, hence the ‘washing’ part of whitewashing! Blackwashing was created because people wanted to compare the two when whitewashing has more harmful history to actual real life people
Do people realise racism is not just towards Asian Hispanic and black poeple It’s hate towards a race, and white is a race. I’ve seen people who are black online say all white people are racist and as a white person I find black people with the richest skin so beautiful. 8:40 I definitely agree on this, people fix “white skin” as if our whole race is stupid. Which it isn’t true. Reminder that genshin impact is mostly of white skin due to the fact most anime kinda styled games have white characters cause anime is from Japan. If you dont like the loss of representation then make your own OC. Like Jesus Christ. It’s racist to actually change a characters race. “Black washing doesn’t exist”, yes. Yes it does. If I was a character who got turned black I’d be a little offended in a way, not that I’m not black, but you don’t appreciate my race.
"Race" doesnt exist. Its a made up concept meant to discriminate. Im european (albanian) and in my history and culture i have basically NOTHING in common with, for example, a German (in fact germany colonized Is for a couple of decades), why should we be lumped together as "White"? Just for the color of our skin? Well that doesnt work either because my skin Is much darker than that of a German, in fact people often mistake me for being middle eastern, but im still european.
FINALLY he made a video on these piles of shit. I remember when someone "fixed" my art on discord by making my character's skin white because she was based off of Japanese attributes. 😞
let's not forget that in the case of Scooby doo, the girl actually put her fucking signature on the drawing, as if SHE drew the original artwork, I know it's small but it really pissed me off
From what I’ve heard about the Velma show, apparently Fred is gonna be a “white supremacist,” Daphne is gonna be like having this story in which she’s pissed at Fred for not willing to have sex with her or some shit, and Shaggy is gonna be a whole in the hood stereotype. Like bruh, the whole Daphne craving sex shit is pretty obvious what Mady Kaling would do due to the recent work she made is clearly “Sex lives of college girls.” And the fact that Shaggy is gonna have the whole in the hood stereotype is just offensive especially the fact he’s black in “Velma.” I’m pretty disappointed that people are only bringing diversity in a show, but then make the characters who are meant to represent diversity be just stereotypes as personalities, Q-Force and presumably Velma are two perfect examples about that sort of thing which is sad. I wanna see representation in media that doesn’t give the characters shitty stereotypes, but make them relatable and charming characters that would help others feel represented in media.
@@Pastasmoker Honestly, Scooby Doo has been a part of my childhood and it’s sad to see how this show is just like being the typical “bottom of the barrel adult cartoons.” I honestly don’t care about the raceswap as long as they don’t make the characters have racial stereotypes and now here we are. The characters are racial stereotypes. Damn sad
On the first one, I commented "did nobody realized that she just black washed the characters?" Since everybody were just saying: WOW! Nice are!, and things like that. And then, everyone started hating on me, and started saying: " Your on Twitter too much!, Black washing doesn't exist, the only issue is white washing"
I just wanna point something out about the genshin example: Genshin is a game highly regulated by the Chinese government. Having tanned characters suck as Kayea or the Sumeru desert people and a black Asian like Xinyan was already a risk- not too sure on laws there, but they tried to ban a male character for being feminine. I doubt they’d want any minorities in that. Hoyoverse even moved its publishing company to Cognosphere (a company from Singapore, I believe) just to try decrease these restrictions. They’re doing all they can already, people have no right to devalue their artist team.
oh trust me, i've been **waiting** for the Velma tear down Also, i feel the need to add in case people didn't know: the og artist responded to this art fixing simply saying they forgot to erase Scooby-doo 😂
This whole art fixers thing just reminds me of that controversy in the Steven Universe fandom a few years back. Yeah, you remember that one! Where a fan artist drew Rose Quartz a little skinner and then they got bullied to the point of almost committing suicide. This whole thing makes me sick just as much as it annoys the ever loving sh*t out of me! 😠😠😠
I’ll never understand why some people react so viscerally when a fictional character is drawn a certain way. The worst I’d do is say “this is cursed” or “I hate it,” but even that’s not in a 100% serious manner.
@@camarokidbb4347 Yeah. It's like, do they have so little going on in their lives that they feel the need to take some random fan artist's work and change it to suit them? Those are the kind of people I want to shout "get a life" at because if they are getting so offended that some random fan artist drew a fictional character not how they like, even though they likely don't even know them, then they need to go outside and touch some grass!

@@DeadlyAlienInvader They blame rapes on “problematic” art pieces… Here I go thinking these narcissistic SJWs had any sane reason to do anything they do.
@@camarokidbb4347 well, to be fair, there are pathetic coomers who got so obsessed with pornographying(is that a word?)cartoons that they did………….questionable things. Wasn’t Chris Chan one of them? And then again, just because a character isn’t sexually appealing, that doesn’t mean they’re safe from rule 34! For example, do you know Kamala Khan? She’s like one of the most politically correct characters out there, like the SJWs’ wet dream of a superhero, and yet, I remember accidently stumbling upon a fan drawing of her……………..I don’t want to talk about it.
That “fixed” scooby doo drawing where they drew that one girl as Asian and gave her ridiculously yellow skin makes me so mad because, I’m Asian and I have pale and yellow skin but not to that extent, it’s still slightly pink in sunlight 😭😭😭
Back in the day someone made a black version of Goku called Da Black Goku and it was a what if. I found it fun. Nowadays I hate these fixers who don't remember other cultures exist. Uzaki-Chan is the biggest one
That said .. Fro-ku is chilling in a parody universe rap battling against Young Frodoriya with All Black on the track. Edit: Honestly, a lot of the bs people play trying to "fix" issues wouldn't at all be a problem if they weren't broadcasting it as "fixing". It's the blatantly plagiarized pieces with a slight pallette swap on the skin tone and patronizing exchange belittling the original artist.
But that would be along the lines of cosplay where people can dress up as any character regardless of race or skin colour. You even get men dressed as women characters which usually looks hilarious, but it is fun. I often make up my own characters and have them interact with established characters as it comes naturally (writing a coherent plot is often harder) but it is done because we like the characters. Even if a film is boring, I might find the characters themselves interesting. These so-called art fixers are different as they are obsessed with race and will bully people into thinking like them and are more likely to assault people based on differences than the people, they put their prejudices on. As for the live-action Disney remakes, they have not been that good regardless of who they cast. Pinocchio was decent but they ended it with them on an island with no boat and it seemed less magical. Replacing cigars and alcohol with soda made no sense as those items represented the corruption of youth. They basically censored an important part of the film which is the message of morals. Obviously drinking a bit of alcohol is not going to kill you but it represents adulthood in a way and children should be children. Childhood should be something to look back on as happy and pure. With Black Panther 2, any criticisms of Namor racechanging gets shutdown with accusiations of racism. The director bseems to engage with that behaviouras well. Chadwick seemed like decent fellow and not race bound like this co-workers.
5:38 i live how incredibly racist this is (towards black people) and the author never even said anything about that. the art implies that there is something less sexually arousing about black women when compared to white women.
The "race not creativity in mind" point is so valid. These "inclusive" characters are almost NEVER treated like characters, they're just props/marketing strategies. PLEASE treat ANY character like a character.
@@eggsandbacon892 Well they either tell you to kill yourself or they feel the need to insult your for drawing porn Though I mainly do ecchi instead of anything super explicit (I do that too but less) so I'm not entirely sure what their limit is
I’m pretty upset with people who think they’re fixing a character just cause they made the skin darker. I honestly think it’s just offensive, if we look at Genshin impact there used to be only 2 dark skinned characters(which personally I didn’t care at the time since I just wanted to play the game) some people and “art fixers” were mad that Xingyan and kaeya’s(those were the two dark skinned characters) skin wasn’t dark enough, EVEN THOUGH irl black peoples skin actually looks like that. Ever since the release of sumeru, hoyoverse added more dark skinned characters Like cyno, dehya, Candace, and some npc’s too. But NOPE there are still some “art fixers” making the skin color darker than the og design because I guess in there eyes, black peoples skin are always meant to be really dark. They’re not fixing anything, they’re literally being offensive and it takes the fun out of art>:/ art is about creativity and having fun not whatever the f!ck this art fixing is on twitter. If these people want darker skin on Genshin characters, then they should make an oc instead like I’m planning to do(basically I’m making myself into a Genshin character).
@@VenusManTrap-777 I'd say it's equally offensive to whites and blacks. Whites are treated like nobody wants them anymore, blacks are treated like a token for easy good reputation.
It's one thing to draw your own interpretation of a fictional character (drawing a character differently than how they're portrayed canonically). It's another to STEAL someone else's artwork, trace over it, and then chastise that artist for not drawing that character the way you interpret them.
This is something that those people in the genshin fandom need to hear. They are trying to push what they think is inclusivity on people, while in some cases erasing the other cultural things that are in the actual game (Dori), like I do think that you can do edits of them, they do look pretty, but don't say you "fixed" them because you won't get any inclusivity out of it and listen to the black people when they say that it won't do nothing cause they're right
I agree, and it makes sense that the respectively browner characters are the ones that are out more often. Al Haitham and the other paler ones are pale because they stay in more, and people draw them black...??? Like how can they possibly be black if they stay in all day. Im not trying to be racist, its literally the truth. Those very people probably make fun of people for staying inside or being white (because they are staying inside) like theyre math isnt adding up. Sumeru is also a desert, so (if it was literal) the sun would hit/shine brighter/uv rays on them more often, so the brown characters there will be... brown. Like yeah, Genshin could've probably made them a little darker, but the way they are is fine too. I dont know why people are like, "guys blackwashing is okay!!!! whitewashing is bad!!" when its still removing the race. It could be like a character from Liyue and someone makes them black. Thats removing their race, still. I do think that making a character a little bit darker would be better or nice in art, because i doubt they all are paper white (majority genshin characters), but they still are pretty pale, because they are inside all day.
@@stellarix_stariaxi do have a problem with the inherent assumption that skin tone entirely depends on sun exposure… a person with dark skin doesn’t need to bathe in the sun daily to stay dark, and some people spend all day in the sun and remain pale as a ghost, it’s all down to genetics. I feel like people confuse tanning with genetic melanin levels when talking about this sometimes. I get you’re probably just talking about how Sumeru characters being based on Middle Eastern and South Asian cultures makes it more understandable (since yes people from the middle east and south asia have a wide range of skin tones), but those tones aren’t only down to tanning. And I do think they coulda done better representing the wider array of skin tones in the middle east or south asia even if most of the characters are stuck inside studying, tighnari being a good example, ik the forest gives a lot of shade but he’s still out in the sun a lot more often than other playable characters from sumeru and yet he’s almost the same sickly pale shade that collei is.
I made a gift for a guy once, like a drawing for him because he was looking for suggestions on how to improve his fursona and I was like “mind if I take a crack at it and draw something up?” He said to go for it so I did. Finished the drawing, then he was like “it doesn’t really look like (the animal) kinda like a hybrid instead, can you change a few things?” I was like 👍 because I was out of practice from drawing and he was a pretty nice dude so I just took his suggestions and tried to work with them, I was still having fun with the drawing at that point, but then it kept going. Suggestion after suggestion, edit after edit, to the point that I didn’t like what I made anymore. He even showed me screenshots of his friends “opinions” of my art. I know I’m not a professional or anything, I never claimed to be. I even told him that much, I haven’t drawn anything in months and haven’t been finding things I used to enjoy enjoyable, but you know I still worked pretty hard on it. I didn’t need to see people I didn’t know tear it apart like that. It really just kinda put a thorn in my heart, you know? That thumbnail of Candice from Genshin surprised me....for about 5 seconds and then I remembered that "art fixers" are as self righteous as you can get. A lot of people were upset that characters in Sumeru, which is the newest playable nation in Genshin based on Egypt and the Middle East, were white. Even though A. It is a fictional world that doesn't need to he exactly like ours, heck they have guys throwing phoenix's and a girl with a chilli munching ex god panda. And B. You could make an argument that Sumeru is divided into two areas, the jungle area, where white characters like Collei, Tighnari and Nilou reside and the desert area, where darker or tanned skin characters like Candice, Cyno and Dehya live. Because Cyno and Co live in rhe desert with minor protection from the sun it makes sense for them at least to have darker skin tones, which they clearly do. Meanwhile the forest area has a lot of shade and likely rain, so it's less likely for Tighnari or Collei to have prolonged exposure to sunlight, so even in the universe of Genshin, it still makes sense for people from the same nation to have different skin tones when the geography is different. Which is also why the prior nations are more homogeneous as they have consistent weather conditions across the land, with few exceptions and even those exceptions wouldn't necessarily force the developers to alter the skin tones.
What's even funnier is that even if Sumeru is based on people from the middle East, people from there aren't even as black as blackwashers make them out to be.Like people from the middle East don't have the melanin of an African, yet for people who want the so called represantaion, they are whitewashed. So then they go out of their way to blackwash Candace,Cyno etc, erasing their culture. Its hilarious and hypocritical.
@@Serbian3 exactly, I'd also say that none of Genshin's regions are based on Africa, Monstadt is Germany or Central Europe, Liyue is China, Inazuma is Japan, Snezhnaya is Russia, Fontaine is France and Natlan is South America. And Kan'ereah isn't based on any existing nation or country. So again it doesn't make sense for those places to have black characters. I just like how they not only ignore the actually origins of the regions, but the existence of Kaeya and Xinyan who are both non white characters. But it doesn't matter if their not white because then their ethnicities are not oppressed enough. And Kaeya, Xinyan, Cyno and Candice all have personalities that have nothing to do with their race as a matter of fact, no one in game talks about it, because it doesn't matter
11:54 funnily enough, considering both her name and username in Twitter, she is Brazilian (saying this as a Brazilian myself). What's is funny is that Brazil isn't a first world country, so for her to be bothering herself with such petty bullshits means that she is obviously chronically online. Plus, she also put her watermark on this artist artwork 🤦
I’ve seen so many “fixed” art pieces and I felt like I was the only one who thought it was bad. Changing peoples art because it’s “incorrect”? I think that’s wrong from multiple standpoints. Thank you for making this video! 💖
One thing I really dislike about this I’m realizing is how often it happens to Japanese anime characters. And the way it happens I don’t know how to describe it but Like these people act like they’re blackwashing a white person so it’s ok. But the thing is, that character was never even white to begin with. They’re Asian. They may have pale skin due to East Asian beauty standards but that doesn’t make them white. They’re not Caucasian. Maybe I’m wrong and this isn’t the mindset when people do this but it severely feels like art fixers think they’re darkening the skin of a white person in the majority. Like it’s like Pale anime character = white person to them? When really they’re “fixing” a character of a racial minority already. It just feels like Asian erasure? Probably not the best way to word it but still.
Reminds me of an artist on tumblr that got bullied to the point of attempting suicide due to their art by the Steven Universe fandom. There were news articles about it too.
5:16 I seriously don't understand the whole "stop sexualising women!" thing when a female character has a slim body and a large chest or behind and is showing some skin. Of course in some cases it can definitely be justified but are women not allowed to be proud of their bodies anymore? I don't get it..
Personally I don't mind the idea of race swapping in concept. There's been plenty of race swapped characters that predate the current trend. Nick Fury was race swapped originally being White and now the most popular version of the character is Black. Colonel Tigh was actually Black in the Original BSG & was changed to White in the 2003 version. Most relevantly for the modern discussion Ponyo was a reimagining of the little Mermaid with a Japanese cast. However the companies making these versions didn't go out of their way to acknowledge the race change, rather it just was. If one isn't being overly preachy about race swapping characters chances are people won't really mind.
Right? If doing this, just produces an empty shell of the original, then don't bother. If some are going to do it, have an new version, story/world-building behind it, otherwise it falls flat.
@@ziephel-6780 Which all 3 of these examples sort of fall under. The MCU takes inspiration from the comics, but takes many liberties in creating its own story. BSG 2003 introduces many unique ideas from the 1978 version, and several fans prefer it over the original. Ponyo is only vaguely based on the concept of the little mermaid and does a lot to separate itself from the source material.
Yeah, same with Kingpin in the old Daredevil movie. They didn't cast Michael Clarke Duncan because they wanted to brag about how not-racist they are, they cast him because he makes a really good Kingpin.
Race swapping in live action movies was mostly done (before the trend) because the actor who auditioned for the role was that damn good. If the actor was so good at auditioning that their differing skin color from the source material was made a non-issue, you’re about to have a widely loved character in your hands. For animation though, since the voice is naturally disembodied from the character, it wouldn’t matter if the voice actor was of a different skin color. It’d probably help in sounding authentic if you got someone matching the description of the animated character, but that’s probably overthinking it.
That "fixed" image about Candace? I got into an argument with someone defending the art. They argued that Candace is Kush, who have incredibly dark skin. I argued that Candace is Egyptian. Their source was her name and some words by someone else, spectulating that Candace would be Kush. My argument was her clothes, as well as her shield being blessed by Bennu, an Egyptian deity, who is protrayed as a Wagtail and Heron, both of which appearing in her Skill and Burst. The person blocked me and (from what I can tell), didn't respond back.
Of course they block you when you say something that doesn't blindly agree/support them 🙄Honestly, it's a problem I have with a lot of the genshin fandom (as a huge genshin player myself). Especially with Sumeru, the fandom went crazy with the skintones of the characters. Yes, I do wish they had a bit more variation with the skin tones in the game as a whole, but you also have to remember how much cultural and historical references Genshin uses in each of their regions. When people just complain about the skin tone of the characters, it feels like they forget that skin color does not equal culture. They think that genshin characters are just caricatures or something defined solely by their skin tone, which is wrong. Each region is based off of a *bunch* of different cultures, and it's ultimately fictional, so it's okay if they take inspiration from many different real-life cultures into one region.
@@lilachrysanthemum7281 To be fair, we did argue back and forth for a bit. It wasn't until I pointed out the Egyptian stuff in her design that the person blocked me.
I'm cringing at the Candace edit on the right. That is NOT what a black hairstyle looks like 😭 It's like they just took a liquify pen and then make tiny waves on her hair to make it look "curly" 💀

To be honest.I'm alroght with a race swapoed character as lomg as it"s a headcanon. It gets wrong if said raceswapped character is called 'fixed' or better than the original
Thats not what a headcanon is. I don't mean this in a harmful way because your opinion still stands (you just used the wrong term), but a headcanon is when you think something not confirmed as canon may be canon; as an example, "I headcanon ___'s favorite color is ___ because they wear it alot." Of course you don't need a reason to have a headcanon, but if its changing something canon, that isnt a headcanon, more of a 'what if'.

>Changes Shaggy/Norville's entire head to match the Velma version >Stops at slant-eyes and yellow-brown skin for Daphne The fixer went the extra mile for the now black "Shaggy", but couldn't even bother to do the same for Daphne's hair Also, I forgot who it was in the thread, but one person pointed out that they "forgot to remove Scooby" from the fixed version to match the Velma show's erasure of Scoob himself.
You want to know the best part(or the worst part, because of the art, the 'fixed' art, and art 'fixer' in question)? Between 4:33-4:43 the art in the top left counter is an ACTUAL PERSON who commissioned art of THEMSELVES. Have fun with that
I think one of the worst things about the scooby doo ‘fixed’ artwork is that she had the audacity to put her own watermark on it when all she did was use the bucket tool, Shaggy dreads, and make Daphne a stereotypical Asian
I also hate how people take some characters who do not have canonical race and tell that they are black and harras people who headcanon them differently. Like of course there is nothing wrong with headcanoning characters who have no race however you want but claiming that they can be only one race is weird. (Im now talking about homestuck mostly. When people in comments hate on you because you draw white Dave or Dirk or human Gamzee)
This happened on the Transformers fandom when Kotobukiya introduced the bishoujo Optimus and Megatron firgures. I keep seeing most Optimus bishoujo fanart on instagram were blackwashed (even though the firgure itself isnt a black character) and most of the fandom rejoiced the fixed version, while Pixiv still kept the original version. Another reason why i quit transformers as well, mainly due to fandoms Edit: typos
The art fixer forgot to make Scooby-Doo invisible because the dog isn't gonna' make it into the show. (Unless Scooby appears as a twist villain, which I wouldn't put past them. This is a woke-lift, and if _Pound Puppies_ showed us anything, even the _dogs_ have to die.) Now isn't that delicious... It also brings to mind the... uh... "artwork" used in the Soviet Union to remove certain political undesirables from photographs they officially appeared in. This is also something you can do with the Google Pixel 6 and 7! ...No, really. Google's bright idea for a new smartphone feature (the "magic eraser" as they call it; yes, they thought so highly of this piece of technology that they put it front and center in all the ads) lets you _literally_ unperson people. Is like you are Dear Leader, but anti-revolutionary Nikolai Yezhov be very much photobombing of you. Now with Google Pixel 6, Yezhov is removed from picture as easy as common Kulak get sent to gulag. ...Seriously, go find those commercials. They're _really_ creepy. The fact that such a historically sketchy idea used by murderous tyrants and despots gets that same marketable upbeat music and colorful graphics as any other ordinary product... it's like strolling through a Wal-Mart and finding a functional gas chamber. It's more than annoying or obnoxious, or even insulting. This is textbook Orwellian. Reality is whatever the Party says it is, and you will accept it or be removed. Think about _that_ when the wokies cry that Musk is taking Twitter away from them and turning it into a safe haven for toxicity, racism, the enrichment of its billionaire owner, and advancing a singular totalitarian political philosophy by silencing all dissenting voices. To suggest that is to, at best, tacitly acknowledge that Twitter _had_ all those nefarious capabilities long before Musk even contemplated its acquisition, but that said potential for abuse went miraculously unrealized when _they_ ran the show... Riiiiiiight.
The hypocrisy of tyrants never ceases to amaze me. They say what they’re doing is for the greater good (which is bullshit if you’ve ever studied Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs), yet ultimately they go nowhere with the torture and suffering. It’s not Machiavellian, it’s just stupid.
Most definitely unintentional, but what I find most odd about this is Fred is the only one in that picture without a scared reaction. What does that imply now? Does that imply whites are supposed to be less scared than other races.

Why? Scooby-Doo is an iconic dog. Why so important character was scrapped?

I still can't believe that Scooby-Doo picture made Daphne yellow to represent Asians. They made a racist depiction of an Asian, since she's not only yellow as well as now has squinted eyes, but she's also the competent fighter of the group, which is an Asian stereotype, to somehow make representation. Overall, the art fixing is stupid and redundant, since it doesn't add representation, just stagnates it with no actual leaps.

Not to mention they only races as black and white. Oh and how their poc characters are also very stereotypical in personality and bio as well-

It makes sense that these people are actual racists who then go and shove their prejudices onto real creative people. It doesn't work in the art style anyway. You need to have a high contrast between skintone and linework for the face to be properly defined on a tiny phone screen, it's the same reason you don't draw with a black pen on black paper.
It’s especially dumb that they seem so mad that an East Asian game consists almost entirely of East Asian characters.

The example I hate the most - Aventurine from honkai star rail. People colorize him because he lived in the desert, and desert people are black, yes?

Whitewashing is the erasure of culture and history, hence the ‘washing’ part of whitewashing!
Blackwashing was created because people wanted to compare the two when whitewashing has more harmful history to actual real life people
Do people realise racism is not just towards Asian Hispanic and black poeple
It’s hate towards a race, and white is a race.
Well that doesnt work either because my skin Is much darker than that of a German, in fact people often mistake me for being middle eastern, but im still european.

let's not forget that in the case of Scooby doo, the girl actually put her fucking signature on the drawing, as if SHE drew the original artwork, I know it's small but it really pissed me off
From what I’ve heard about the Velma show, apparently Fred is gonna be a “white supremacist,” Daphne is gonna be like having this story in which she’s pissed at Fred for not willing to have sex with her or some shit, and Shaggy is gonna be a whole in the hood stereotype.
Wow the way to ruin many people childhoods
I just wanna point something out about the genshin example:
Genshin is a game highly regulated by the Chinese government.
Literally Hoyoverse is trying yet idiots on tiktok and Pinterest still think this game is “racist”
I think that it's not about government :) it's more because of the audience and beauty standards (like really white skin)

I don’t know how to describe it but Like these people act like they’re blackwashing a white person so it’s ok. But the thing is, that character was never even white to begin with. They’re Asian. They may have pale skin due to East Asian beauty standards but that doesn’t make them white. They’re not Caucasian.

@@CruelestChris Good example, yeah I agree.
It’d probably help in sounding authentic if you got someone matching the description of the animated character, but that’s probably overthinking it.
as a black person, I hate it when people black wash characters. I MEAN LOOK WHAT THEY DID TO MAH BOI SHAGGY
That is NOT what a black hairstyle looks like 😭
It's like they just took a liquify pen and then make tiny waves on her hair to make it look "curly" 💀
1:07 they’re an art fixer and AND Velma fan? That’s probably the most defective combination of traits as an artist.
I didn’t even know there were fans of that show 😭 wtf
Dude fixing scooby do art is criminal but making it Velma is just evil like that’s peoples childhood and they are making it the worst woke show in existence the worst ever besides megamind rules
That was before the show lauched
I'm gonna do a well actually here.
Well actually, Scooby Doo doesn't exist in Velma therefore the art isn't fixed.
To be honest.I'm alroght with a race swapoed character as lomg as it"s a headcanon. It gets wrong if said raceswapped character is called 'fixed' or better than the original
I full heartedly agree also the same could be said for the gender and sexuality of characters been different from canon if it's just a headcanon.
Don't get me started on these people. Show them a busty girl like Uzaki-chan and they'll unintentionally make her anime a big hit worthy of a sequel.
I've seen cosplayers who's Uzaki's body type, some first time, debunk fixers.
@@Demolitiondude I have too. Some cosplayers have Dexter's moms body for crying out loud!

2:56 Thanks for recommending me a smaller, more efficient graphics table to buy. now I can finally get rid of the huge huion kamwas 22 pro that my brother gave me a few years ago, where I don't really like having a graphics table as big as my monitor
Ah yes people who likes to ruin characters daily
>Changes Shaggy/Norville's entire head to match the Velma version
>Stops at slant-eyes and yellow-brown skin for Daphne
The fixer went the extra mile for the now black "Shaggy", but couldn't even bother to do the same for Daphne's hair
Also, I forgot who it was in the thread, but one person pointed out that they "forgot to remove Scooby" from the fixed version to match the Velma show's erasure of Scoob himself.
My favourite show, *Y Doo*
You want to know the best part(or the worst part, because of the art, the 'fixed' art, and art 'fixer' in question)?
Between 4:33-4:43 the art in the top left counter is an ACTUAL PERSON who commissioned art of THEMSELVES. Have fun with that
That makes it infinitely worse
That is a oof
I think one of the worst things about the scooby doo ‘fixed’ artwork is that she had the audacity to put her own watermark on it when all she did was use the bucket tool, Shaggy dreads, and make Daphne a stereotypical Asian
The creator of the scooby doo art said that his art has nothing to do with the new velma show
The audacity for them to say that wtf… it’s clearly copied from the show
@@Mmmkaramel i think they were talking about the original creator, not the art "fixer"
@@Unverified_User yep.That is what i was sayong
@@Unverified_User ooh my bad sorry 😅 I misunderstood
I also hate how people take some characters who do not have canonical race and tell that they are black and harras people who headcanon them differently. Like of course there is nothing wrong with headcanoning characters who have no race however you want but claiming that they can be only one race is weird. (Im now talking about homestuck mostly. When people in comments hate on you because you draw white Dave or Dirk or human Gamzee)
Like, just fuck off the artists they do not owe you anything unless they are erasing canonicaly black characters.
Wasnt dave literally albino and thats why he had red eyes? (Its been a long time since ive thought about homestuck)
Another reason why i quit transformers as well, mainly due to fandoms
Edit: typos
Ngl the art in the thumbnail its actually good!
Anyone think it's funny Fred remains the same with this 'fixed' art?
Most definitely unintentional, but what I find most odd about this is Fred is the only one in that picture without a scared reaction. What does that imply now? Does that imply whites are supposed to be less scared than other races.
@@R0-83-RT either less scared or completely clueless! 😆
