Islander - Casket // Johnkew Drum Cover

- I’m really loving this new album from Islander. Arin Illjey (previously in Avenged Sevenfold) really lays down some sick drums throughout the album, and this song really stood out to me as one of the best.
So I thought this would be a good song to introduce my new cymbal setup! Murat Diril graciously offered to take me into their endorser family, and I’m SO stoked on these hand-hammered gems from Turkey. The depth and tonal layering on these is just insane. That 20” Arena crash, oh my. Many thanks to Hendrik for all his help and support.

Thank you John. I recently just finished my tech training for the Air Force and I got stationed in a "no drum zone" dorm room. You're honestly the only thing I watch to satisfy my itch of jamming out on the kit. I've been watching you for years now and you've helped inspire me in some many different ways. I love your crash cymbals. I'm not much of your snare but that's just a personal preference. And your recording equipment/equalizing is flawless. Your hard work shows man in many more ways than just drumming.

Really nice cover man, nice work on the cymbal sponsorship too, they sound really good! I'd love to see a cover of Schism by Tool, It'd be really nice to see a cover of that song with good camerawork and nice sounding drums and cymbals.

Thanks Boda - I've mostly been writing-up stuff I found last summer, but still fun! I'm also teaching two courses this semester, which is keeping me busy.

Do you do all the background work yourself? Like setting up equipment and editing videos. The sound of your videos are really professional.
Yes, I've gradually developed a method where I set up and record everything myself. I do the mixing of audio and video. It's been a long learning curve, but it's finally sounding decent. My video mixing skills could use improvement for sure. My color blindness doesn't help, haha.

Hey John, I've got a request for you. it's a song that means a lot to me and is one of my all time favorites. I've never been able to find a good video on someone playing it and i still struggle to get my head around some of the parts. it's a long prog song but very rewarding and enjoyable to play. it's a song called tetragrammaton by mars volta. i think you're definitely capable of pulling it off and would absolutely love to see a video of you playing along to it...would you have a go? John Theodore had some really special times with mars volta and has taught me so much...if you haven't listened to him much do check him out...he's got soul :) all the best and good luck with the rest of the year :)

I think that Arin Illejay really fits this band a lot better than Avenged Sevenfold.
He certainly flows very well throughout this album.
