Thanks man! Yeah, the snare is real hard to get right in the mix, and I'm still learning. You can tell on my early videos that I had no idea how to mix the snare :)
Thanks for your feedback my friend. I just kind of recorded this video on a whim - a jam session that I decided to record. I didn't spend a lot of time refining it or writing a ton of new stuff (although there are a lot of differences from the original). But I'm pretty happy with it. So I thought I would throw it up as sort of a bonus video. I don't think I've ever uploaded two videos in one week.

i love it when you do that, i might be repeating myself but when i watch this, iron maiden's drummer comes to mind, surrounded by "the kit" you make me think there's something wrong with my ears, that are only able to grasp the tip of the iceberg, then you alone play like 200 guys during the samba schools during rio's carnaval!! i love it!

Many thanks - I did play it by ear. I was just planning on jamming along with the song, but after a few times through it I pressed record and this was the result.
I'm glad you can look past the song to the drums. I really dig this song, but it seems to have a polarizing effect on people - they either love it or hate it. I've heard a lot of Muse fans rip on it. But either way, it's so much fun to jam along with on the drums.

Wow, fantastic drumming.
To me, you have a very interesting approach on how to play this song. It is very different from the original drumming, and I thoroughly enjoy watching your performance.
Also, I think not only your skills are to be complimented, but also the mixing of the sound. I heard so many rubbish drum cover not because of skills but the wrong sound, particularly the snare drum in most rock songs. You sir have nailed those sounds, making it large and bombastic, and I salute you for that.

I like watching you work around the toms - across the chasm where the ride sits (traditionally my 14" tom spot). Always been impressed by guys who have distances between toms and yet still move fluidly around them. I saw one dude move around to the right, but his deepest tom was on his left, so he crossed over from hard right to hard left without missing a note. Awesome. I always have my kit close and focused - not a big movement guy, so kudos for the agility man.

I'm not a big Muse fan, a couple of their songs sound great, but I can't listen to most of their songs on repeat. This particular one is pretty special. I like how you try to play different types of rock and metal songs! Like you, I enjoy everything from soft rock to heavy metal (not including the growling / screaming) songs.

Incredible job as always (I know I'm a broken record at this point... haha). I haven't listened to Muse in a long time, but this single reminds me why they were my favorite band throughout Junior High. And even thogh Dom doesn't use double bass, your usage of that second pedal was extremely effective. Good work, and I good luck figuring out your drum studio! :D

I only started using this setup last year, but you'd be surprised how quickly you can adapt to that gap in the toms. It's not really a hindrance, even with big fills going down the toms. I do occasionally hit the ride by mistake though. But I still like the feeling of having the ride so close rather than having to reach so far to play the bell. But who knows, I may go back to the old setup again. Can't wait to see your setup!
