I may double dip and pick it up on PC and run it with my 1080ti but I've been very curious about the big deal about the 2080ti .Once released I know there will be tons of UA-camr videos comparing the game using each graphics card. Every individual experience matters to me ,from the monitor used to the graphics card for the ultimate experience.

Ok Rant incoming: There is one glaring issue that DF somehow failed to mention in this analysis. The black levels/gamma in HDR are raised which is washing out the image. How does Digital Foundry miss this? I checked out both X and Pro versions on an Oled c8. Tweaking settings does not remedy the issue either. What is up with developers continuing to botch elements of HDR lately? The HDR is not fake like Rdr2, but the game would look so much better if the blacks were the way they're supposed to be. It's such a simple solution! Many people have noticed the same problem. The devs do all this great work with the engine and art only to ruin it with an error like this. Here are all thw games lately with borked HDR: Rdr2, Falout 76, darksiders 3, just cause 4, and now Re2.
Yeah mate, I feel like HDR really gets the short end of the stick on digital foundry analyses. They go into detail on so many elements but I feel as though HDR always gets a cursory, "And it really shines in this game" or "It won't really blow you away, but it has some nice highlights", and that's it! Really needs a focus as much as every other feature ✌️
I played the demo on Xbox One X with HDR and on PS4 Pro without HDR and the pro version looked way better and not “washed out”. I was very surprised and was reminded of RDR2 as well.

Played the demo on both my PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, and am very happy with how they both look and perform. Finally, a demo which makes me want the full release badly! Undoubtedly the first great game of 2019, remake or not. Definitely picking this one up.
Bro, this is the best engine out there. Some engines don’t even allow for the full 60fps on the ps5 or Xbox 1 x and this game was hitting 60fps on last gen consoles. Let that sink in

The demo is one of the best among incredibly optimised pc games,that it comes close to grab king of the optimised pc games' title from doom and madmax...it would be interesting to see the final version
@@dimka11ggg I don't think you can play it with that gpu cause GT models are for media only. If you want to play this game good grab a gtx 1060 or rtx 2060 If you have a good cpu. If not might want to start building a new pc.
Your videos are invaluable when I’m trying to optimize my settings on a new game. I spent pretty much the entire demo trying to figure out how to play this game at 4K on my 3gb 1060. These menus giving me examples of what each setting would look like made this process infinitely easier. With just a few concessions, I was able to run this at 4K and a relatively smooth 30 frames. I didn’t even have to give up that amazing volumetric lighting or SSR. 30 FPS didn’t feel great with a mouse, but I could barely notice it after plugging in a game pad. Your videos have empowered me to make optimizing my settings on weaker hardware enjoyable enough to be almost another hobby unto itself.
I've heard of many many people including myself that had issues with the HDR causing the screen to look as if it had a grey film over it. All the darks became grey. I then tried it without HDR and had darker darks than previously. Also I have a TCL R617 so it's brightness isn't quite 1000 but its very near that range.
@@TheRedRaven_ Yep on game likes GoW Horizon ect it looks amazing. I also had issues with RDR2s HDR not looking the greatest but I've heard other people say that too. I think it could just be like a few of the other 3rd party games that are having issues with HDR. Might have it fixed by release.
I'd love to see a video on Tales of Vesperia Definitive. How it runs on Switch, PS4, Xbox and PC vs the original release. I've seen that even beefy PCs have a strange stuttering to them and would love an in depth analysis
The PC version runs just fine, noticed some annoying micro stutter during some early cutscenes that's about it, otherwise it will run in excess of 250 fps. Solid 60 if you turn on VSYNC on max settings. The game is 10 years old though so that is expected.
as for the thing i heard this game do not have ps4 pro / xbone X enhancements,....so it basically useless as they just run the base machine on enhanced consoles, especially xbox one x since according to dev, xbox one ver runs at 60fps in battle but 30fps in other,...while ps4 runs all scenes 60fps
I played the demo just to gauge how well my PC could handle it. I was pleasantly surprised. Definitely felt like my PC was able to punch above its weight, though I guess it remains to be seen if that holds true for some of the more open areas of the game. But at least I know I can create some headroom if I need it. I was hoping DF would do a video on the demo. I was really interested in RE2's performance across consoles and PC, and I'm looking forward to a more in-depth analysis. One of my favorite channels on UA-cam. Awesome work.
One thing I haven't seen anyone talking about is the reload animation while Leon is holding the flashlight. He rests it between his neck and shoulder to hold it while he reloads. Pretty sweet little detail I think.
@Prizzy mines at 4k running around 45-60 depending idk what DF did in the settings or what CPU/GPU they have. I have a 16gb frontier card and a TR so idk lol
My TV has perfect blacks but this game looks looked like I was playing on a LCD back in 2000. Everything is washed out! Is this a design choice because something feels very off with gamma levels.
Kaztrofy yo I noticed that as well. In fact it’s very similar to onrush with how it looks. On onrush which I got as free on PS Plus I notice as soon as the game started the game looked washed out and then couldn’t do anything about it like change the brightness to make it look less washed out. Man what’s up with devs making games look washed out now days like come on why ruined a beautiful looking game with making it look washed out.

if you go in to the display options in the game and go all the way down there is something called color space try out the other color space called rec. 709 it boost the colors alot !! it can also be because you set op the in game brightness wrong
I actually ran the game with an i5 4590 and a GTX 1080 Ti, on a 4K monitor, at 4K resolution and maxed out settings, though I had set my framerate cap to 60, with v-sync turned off. the game ran at 60 frames almost the entire time, but as you mentioned in the video, I also had drops to about 37-43 fps in that hallway. there is some water there, and it reflects all the light sources in the vicinity on top of reflecting objects and models. setting lighting to high and maybe turning screen space reflections down a notch would probably allow the game to run at consistent 60 frames on both the 1080 Ti and the 2080 Ti. all in all, judging by the demo, this is a great PC version of a very promising remake. I've been a huge fan of Resident Evil 2 ever since its initial release, and this remake was a dream of mine, until it became reality. great video, by the way, I finally subscribed to you guys.
The demo plays well and looks fine for the most part, but honestly I expected you to talk about things such as how broken the SSR implementation seems to be, about how blurry the image is even at native 4k, about how if you turn off the intrusive TAA there's a super strong sharpening filter that makes everything look terrible (the reflections look even worse than before). I'm really looking forward to this game but I can't be the only one that noticed those issues on the PC version. Hopefully those are fixed for the full release.
i mean even if they aren't, there will be reshade presets that literally make the game look 100x better. I recently did another RE7 playthrough with a nice reshade preset. night and day difference. I do agree what u said tho
SSR almost always looks bad, so no surprise there but the AA on console is just ridiculous... I literally thought the One X version runs at 1080p because the AA makes the image blurry to the point where the high resolution is basically a waste of resources.
You're not alone, see my comments above. This is not a good looking game at all, I think fans of the series are just blinkered by the fact they're getting a remake. There's 7th gen PC games that look miles better than this.

I finally launched the game for the first time after having it been installed for a few days. Upon me maxing out the settings, I noticed that my GTX 1080 Ti's VRAM was being exceeded in 1080p. I them immediately closed the game and came over here to watch DF's video on it.
Have tested the demo on a base PS4, a PS4 Pro and my main-Platform, the PC. Based on that experience the PC will once again be my go-to-Version. Concerning the base PS4: I would gladly take a 900p/60fps-mode over 1080p/30fps (or uncapped, which is worse than a 30fps lock in my opinion) if I was buying that Version. Hopefully the mod where somebody modded old-school fixed-camera-perspectives into the PC-Demo will be fully realised once the game releases. Alex, you’ve rapidly become my favourite DF analyst. Brilliant stuff. But I have to echo a couple of other comments regarding the HDR/Gamma. It’s all over the place on X1X (and Pro, I understand). Any kind of balanced black/white contrast is impossible to achieve and the image washes out in multiple scenarios. Be great if you could raise this with Capcom. Also, the X1X was promised a 4K/30 mode which was not present in the demo. MIA?
Resident Evil Remake on Gamecube is the first game ever to genuinely blow my damn mind away with its graphics. I literally could not believe a videogame could look like that IN 2002 AND 480i RESOLUTION! Now RE2 Remake is doing the exact same thing 20 years later. Yes i know RE7 looks extremely similar but i have never played it or seen it in 4k 60fps since the game never interested me. This is blowing my goddamn mind like very few games have in this millennium.

To anyone who hasn't played the demo on pc yet. DL the trainer before you do. It allows you to make that 30 min timer infinite. It has to be used before you play the game for the first time or it won't work apparently.
@@fcukugimmeausername That will probably fix the crappy Screen Space Reflections in the game, wish I could turn it off, but it also disable water refection too. I hate how it makes everything look like someone went and waxed everything.
I'm running at 4k (interlaced) max settings at 60fps on my gtx 1080, the difference between normal rendering and interlaced is frankly minimal. I don't know why DF didn't talk about those different modes, I hope they will do in the final review.
i found it very distracting, everything at different depths look like a cardboard cutout stacked on top of the next thing, i don't know if it was a bug for me or what
@@Brian2k2 hmm I didn't get that problem, truth be told it looks a little bit less sharp than running on "normal mode" but literally you have to go very close to the monitor and even than it is very hard to spot. I should also mention that I played on 4K, so the result may vary on other resolutions. I get a significant boost in performance so I can basically get that 60 locked at 4k maxed out, (2160i).
Please Alex, when you do the main review for PC, put the largest frame rate factor in the description. It's tough to go through the video like 20 times as one is tweaking the graphic settings to hit 60FPS. Thanks and keep up the awesome work.
Yeah I definitely agree, I'd much prefer a locked 30fps with frame time perfect vsync, than ~45fps with erratic frame times. There's clearly enough overhead to allow it.
man i wish i'd seen this video before i played the PC demo...just booted it up to play the last minute i had after completing it yesterday...and it looked buttery smooth on DX11 with HBAO+...i opened the first door and...THANK YOU FOR PLAYING!! gutted...didn't get to fire me gun :( roll on release night :)
I'm so happy to see how well Capcom have handled this game, both the port and the remake itself. It runs like absolute butter, the kb+m controls are far from bad and the game feels like a remake without butchering the underlying nostalgia for returning fans. Can't wait for the full game.
Will you analyze Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition? Each console version has different resolutions and fps. And the Switch Version suffers from performance issues and unstable framerates, unfortunately.

I agree a 30cap option on the base consoles would be a good idea, i use TVs with interpolation settings so a consistant 30fps is made into a very believable looking 60fps with the right setyings, but that stops being an option if its uncapped and bouncing around the 30s and 40s.
When I was playing this on pc it looked really good. A steady 59-60 fps at all times from what I noticed and that's on a mid range machine from 4 years ago. Finally something with good optimization! (Standard settings, no clue what settings but probably high or something with 1080p of course)
@Vespr Why? Right now, RX 580 are being sold for a great price (€165) with 2 €60 games for free. Meanwhile, if I buy navi, I have to wait a year without a graphics card and it might just end up with similar performance for the same price as a good sale now
@Vespr Adored TV has been wrong multiple times already, I don't consider him a trustworthy source. Sources who know what's actually going on in the industry, expect Navi to arrive by the end of the year. And of course Navi is going to be better than Polaris, but at what price? Nvidia isn't even giving you better value this generation and AMD is not going to hugely undercut it just because, since that would lose them so much profit. Realistically, Navi will offer better value around the €300-€400 range, but don't expect RTX 2060 performance at less than half the price.
@Vespr Just keep your expectations in check. Zen 2 has space for more than 1 chiplet, but that doesn't mean that Ryzen 3000 series will use more than 1. My expectation is slowly growing core counts over the different 7nm generations. As for GPUs, I just look at AMD over the past years: At launch, they are about on par to Nvidia in performance and price and only gain competitive advantage after launch when prices drop massively. That's why I'm buying an RX 580 now: Prices have dropped massively, comes with free games and just offers bang for your buck like nothing else. You can definitely wait, but I'd lower your expectations a bit, since the AMD rumours from adoredTV just seem unrealistic
No one plays games at 4K with max settings on pc lol. I love how this PC gamers speak like everyone who as pc plays in ultra settings. What a joke. Most people on pc play at medium or high settings in 1080p. A pc gamer want the game running smoothly as possible to play it. So put every game at max settings its just stupid, even more if you play that game online lol.
Who cares about 4K? I just like playing at 140+ frames on a 144hz monitor, over barebones consoles that strive to hit a consistent 60 and usually fail even in that department.

HEY THANKS FOR THIS VIDEO MAN!!!!! I recently played the demo on my PC as well and was kinda confused as to why the zombie animations were running at a lower framerate from a distance. I also got that weird glitch after you used a knife on them and everything starts to stutter. Glad to hear that It wasn't just me that was getting these problems. I legit thought something was wrong with my PC. You guys are awesome!!
I’ve never been a big fan of the RE games. I played 1 and 2 a bit a long time ago, but this demo really made me consider giving this game a try. It felt very well made.
Depends on how the developer implements it. Nothing wrong with the API its self. It just opens up new things for developers to do. Capcom's implementation of it in RE 2 is garbage. My guess is they took the laziest route and just used a DX 12 wrapper.
I was running RE2 PC demo with DX12 at 1080p 100fps, 1440p 80fps and 4K 30fps locked with an i7-2600 and GTX 1060 6GB overclocked. It's a well optimized engine. Glad I preordered the deluxe edition.
Use Dx11, there is a clear performance drop with Dx12. Seriously though, the only game I've seen that actually improves performance with Dx12 is Rise of the Tomb Raider. I really hope this will change eventually otherwise we got all hyped up for Dx12 only to be left disappointed.
I think we can all agree that base consoles now need a some sort of performance mode from the game or from each own firmware. This performance mode consists of reducing its default resolution to say 10-25 percent so it can reach the game target fps and provide better frame time pacing.
So True it's light on CPU, because i got Core i7 960 with GTX 970 i run Resident Evil 2 Remake Demo 1080p medium settings usually 60fps a little bit get under 60fps in some place, good modern optimized game
Was pleasantly surprised to see Dolby Atmos supported in the PC game and even from the short gameplay, I can tell the audio is going to be killer! Just hope they fix the HDR implementation for launch.
Looks like Capcom pulled a Rockstar on the PS4 pro. Really hope this isn’t becoming a trend with that soft and smeared reconstruction. Sony’s first party titles visually really are different beasts and quite frankly make several third party developers and their optimization for the PS4 pro look like amateurs.
darksunwithin well sony studios make the games only for ps4 and their engines are only meant for ps4 so ofc they do it better. 3rd party devs either don't have money or time to put extra effort into all those versions or they just don't care too much about it
That's because they're making the games for multiple systems, while Sony first party have to play smoke and mirrors. The PS4P isn't some mega ultra power house system that crushes everything else out there. Don't be such a fool.
Never said anything about powerhouse here, however we’ve seen what’s possible with games such as U4, HZD, GoW, Detroit and Spider-man. So to me it sounds like excuses when you see RDR2 on the 1X compared to the Pro; overall it looks good but the finer details have that layer of grease smeared over it. Those details on the 1X on the other hand appear to be a different/new textures. I kind of find how much of a difference there is between the two versions a bit insulting. Of course it has to look better on the X but details on PS4P reduced to grease? Come on. As I said, excuses...
@@darksunwithin It sounds more to me like you're creating games for what the hw allows for, not what isn't there. If we went by your logic, then everything from the X1 to the Switch and PC can be "powerhouses", because the majority of devs don't "cater" to said power. The thing is, devs these days, when they talk about "optimization", they're talking about peeling stuff back, not padding more stuff on. Whatever was made for the PS4, was made for it's hw level, not for what just isn't there. Really, what you guys should pay more attention to is the differences in engines and AA, as well as just what level of texture detail is cranked up and down. Because PC has a lot more juice, it's able to crank up the level of detail, not down to "optimization", because we know by fact that there are thousands of differing PC parts that need to be taken into account, but rarely are, just because there are too many parts to account for, hence why PC goes by raw power alone. Games designed purely for consoles only go for what the console hw actually allows for. if you tried to go by raw power alone, you'll notice that it cannot cut it, due to the CPU being factually weaker than most modern CPU's PC's use. Also the hard drives as well, they run a lot slower than any SSD/NVME drives out there, and we know the majority of consoles don't have insanely fast write speeds, to simply toss out 4k textures on the fly for literally everything. Being honest, if I saw console parity (which we do half the time on PC) , I'd be insulted, because I know we can do and see better on PC. There's little excuses for console parity on PC though.
I love you GP102. You're still the best premium chip considering performance and life cycle. Demo runs perfectly at any resolution. Even 4K 60 FPS TAA at 1950/12500 with only two settings down: Shadows - High, Volumetric Lighting - Medium. Uncredible! Demo doesn't look super fantastic of course but very good looking with all modern features. Reflections filtering is pretty strange though and i doubt Capcom will fix it. Same in RE7, i guess it's engine limitation. Anyway, can't wait!
My only complain is that if you pay close attention where Leon crawls through the shutter gate, both entering and exiting, you will notice that the Screen Space Reflections are not inverted which is not the case with every other stationary object.
Am I the only one who was not impressed? I was a bit underwhelmed by the graphics. Felt a little bit low budget. Not nearly as polished as Resident Evil 7. I do hope the demo is an old build and RTX support is also coming.. because this demo doesn't even scratch how good RE7 still looks by comparison.
@@Yoidze doesnt matter to me personally either or, im not the type that notices fps, but yea those that do and are versed in tech/performance always say locked is better esp when the framerate literallly fluctuates into the 30s, might as well keep it steady then...but im sure the game had a reason for keeping it unlocked, i think it's capcoms engine, all their games seem to be unlocked like monster hunter world was too, proly something is tied to the framerate and would cause issues or something
Currently running a MSI Armour RTX 2070 on max settings and I’m getting 75FPS at 1440p on all gameplay with an occasional drop with cutscenes (it falls to around 45-55). With it being a day after release I’m really happy with it. Here’s to hoping they can potentially tweak any of the minor issues with FPS across the board. Superb game, superb visuals and I cannot wait to sink into it further!

On my Oled on Xbox one X the game doesn't look all that great when it comes to atmosphere. It looks like a grey mess at time. I just finished Shadow of the Tomb Raider and my God when you are in a cave in that game it looks so dark. The deepest black you can imagine and here, especially playing in the dark it just doesn't look good.
Try playing with HDR disabled. For some reason the HDR is broken in this demo, making all the blacks look grey and washed out. Hopefully this is fixed in the actual release.
I don't know if you're using HDR or not. I turn HDR off most of the time for the exact reasons you mentioned. A lot of the times, things are too dark for my liking. Resident Evil 7 was so so dark outside on the docks whenever I had hdr enabled.
Fascinating! I was surprised to find that the game seemed to look and perform very slightly better on my PS4 Pro than my PC with a decent Quad-core i5 and GTX 970 but I have to attribute that to my own lack of configuration since recently getting a 4K TV. Love the analysis as always and am pumped for the final game along with DF's coverage.

Mike55690 no doubt. This is what all RE fans dreams look like. Leon with a flashlight and pistol crossing his hands like a badass and moving through dark narrow corridors lol. As cheesy as it sounds it’s the honest truth. Literally couldn’t ask for better. Also, does anyone notice when Leon goes to reload or do certain things he puts the flashlight between his head and neck? Love the detail.

Ok Rant incoming:
There is one glaring issue that DF somehow failed to mention in this analysis. The black levels/gamma in HDR are raised which is washing out the image. How does Digital Foundry miss this? I checked out both X and Pro versions on an Oled c8. Tweaking settings does not remedy the issue either.
What is up with developers continuing to botch elements of HDR lately? The HDR is not fake like Rdr2, but the game would look so much better if the blacks were the way they're supposed to be. It's such a simple solution! Many people have noticed the same problem. The devs do all this great work with the engine and art only to ruin it with an error like this.
Here are all thw games lately with borked HDR: Rdr2, Falout 76, darksiders 3, just cause 4, and now Re2.
Yeah mate, I feel like HDR really gets the short end of the stick on digital foundry analyses. They go into detail on so many elements but I feel as though HDR always gets a cursory, "And it really shines in this game" or "It won't really blow you away, but it has some nice highlights", and that's it! Really needs a focus as much as every other feature ✌️

I played the demo on Xbox One X with HDR and on PS4 Pro without HDR and the pro version looked way better and not “washed out”. I was very surprised and was reminded of RDR2 as well.

Played the demo on both my PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, and am very happy with how they both look and perform. Finally, a demo which makes me want the full release badly! Undoubtedly the first great game of 2019, remake or not. Definitely picking this one up.

Bro, this is the best engine out there. Some engines don’t even allow for the full 60fps on the ps5 or Xbox 1 x and this game was hitting 60fps on last gen consoles. Let that sink in

Played the demo on Steam, and I'm sold. The graphics look phenomenal, and the gameplay was incredibly tense.

Your videos are invaluable when I’m trying to optimize my settings on a new game. I spent pretty much the entire demo trying to figure out how to play this game at 4K on my 3gb 1060. These menus giving me examples of what each setting would look like made this process infinitely easier. With just a few concessions, I was able to run this at 4K and a relatively smooth 30 frames. I didn’t even have to give up that amazing volumetric lighting or SSR. 30 FPS didn’t feel great with a mouse, but I could barely notice it after plugging in a game pad.
Your videos have empowered me to make optimizing my settings on weaker hardware enjoyable enough to be almost another hobby unto itself.

How come you guys didn't mention the HDR implementation washing out the entire image in the demo?

I've heard of many many people including myself that had issues with the HDR causing the screen to look as if it had a grey film over it. All the darks became grey. I then tried it without HDR and had darker darks than previously. Also I have a TCL R617 so it's brightness isn't quite 1000 but its very near that range.

@@TheRedRaven_ Yep on game likes GoW Horizon ect it looks amazing. I also had issues with RDR2s HDR not looking the greatest but I've heard other people say that too. I think it could just be like a few of the other 3rd party games that are having issues with HDR. Might have it fixed by release.

I'd love to see a video on Tales of Vesperia Definitive. How it runs on Switch, PS4, Xbox and PC vs the original release. I've seen that even beefy PCs have a strange stuttering to them and would love an in depth analysis
The PC version runs just fine, noticed some annoying micro stutter during some early cutscenes that's about it, otherwise it will run in excess of 250 fps. Solid 60 if you turn on VSYNC on max settings. The game is 10 years old though so that is expected.

as for the thing i heard this game do not have ps4 pro / xbone X enhancements,....so it basically useless as they just run the base machine on enhanced consoles, especially xbox one x since according to dev, xbox one ver runs at 60fps in battle but 30fps in other,...while ps4 runs all scenes 60fps
I played the demo just to gauge how well my PC could handle it. I was pleasantly surprised. Definitely felt like my PC was able to punch above its weight, though I guess it remains to be seen if that holds true for some of the more open areas of the game. But at least I know I can create some headroom if I need it.
I was hoping DF would do a video on the demo. I was really interested in RE2's performance across consoles and PC, and I'm looking forward to a more in-depth analysis. One of my favorite channels on UA-cam. Awesome work.
One thing I haven't seen anyone talking about is the reload animation while Leon is holding the flashlight. He rests it between his neck and shoulder to hold it while he reloads. Pretty sweet little detail I think.

My TV has perfect blacks but this game looks looked like I was playing on a LCD back in 2000. Everything is washed out! Is this a design choice because something feels very off with gamma levels.
Kaztrofy yo I noticed that as well. In fact it’s very similar to onrush with how it looks. On onrush which I got as free on PS Plus I notice as soon as the game started the game looked washed out and then couldn’t do anything about it like change the brightness to make it look less washed out. Man what’s up with devs making games look washed out now days like come on why ruined a beautiful looking game with making it look washed out.

the HDR in this game is broken
if you go in to the display options in the game and go all the way down there is something called color space try out the other color space called rec. 709 it boost the colors alot !! it can also be because you set op the in game brightness wrong

I actually ran the game with an i5 4590 and a GTX 1080 Ti, on a 4K monitor, at 4K resolution and maxed out settings, though I had set my framerate cap to 60, with v-sync turned off.
the game ran at 60 frames almost the entire time, but as you mentioned in the video, I also had drops to about 37-43 fps in that hallway.
there is some water there, and it reflects all the light sources in the vicinity on top of reflecting objects and models.
setting lighting to high and maybe turning screen space reflections down a notch would probably allow the game to run at consistent 60 frames on both the 1080 Ti and the 2080 Ti.
all in all, judging by the demo, this is a great PC version of a very promising remake.
I've been a huge fan of Resident Evil 2 ever since its initial release, and this remake was a dream of mine, until it became reality.

The demo plays well and looks fine for the most part, but honestly I expected you to talk about things such as how broken the SSR implementation seems to be, about how blurry the image is even at native 4k, about how if you turn off the intrusive TAA there's a super strong sharpening filter that makes everything look terrible (the reflections look even worse than before). I'm really looking forward to this game but I can't be the only one that noticed those issues on the PC version. Hopefully those are fixed for the full release.
i mean even if they aren't, there will be reshade presets that literally make the game look 100x better. I recently did another RE7 playthrough with a nice reshade preset. night and day difference. I do agree what u said tho

but the AA on console is just ridiculous... I literally thought the One X version runs at 1080p because the AA makes the image blurry to the point where the high resolution is basically a waste of resources.

I finally launched the game for the first time after having it been installed for a few days. Upon me maxing out the settings, I noticed that my GTX 1080 Ti's VRAM was being exceeded in 1080p. I them immediately closed the game and came over here to watch DF's video on it.
Have tested the demo on a base PS4, a PS4 Pro and my main-Platform, the PC. Based on that experience the PC will once again be my go-to-Version.
Concerning the base PS4: I would gladly take a 900p/60fps-mode over 1080p/30fps (or uncapped, which is worse than a 30fps lock in my opinion) if I was buying that Version.
Hopefully the mod where somebody modded old-school fixed-camera-perspectives into the PC-Demo will be fully realised once the game releases.

Alex, you’ve rapidly become my favourite DF analyst. Brilliant stuff. But I have to echo a couple of other comments regarding the HDR/Gamma. It’s all over the place on X1X (and Pro, I understand). Any kind of balanced black/white contrast is impossible to achieve and the image washes out in multiple scenarios. Be great if you could raise this with Capcom.
Also, the X1X was promised a 4K/30 mode which was not present in the demo. MIA?
I hope so. Forza Horizon 4 and Rise of the Tomb Raider both let you choose between 1080/60 or 4k/30.

Resident Evil Remake on Gamecube is the first game ever to genuinely blow my damn mind away with its graphics. I literally could not believe a videogame could look like that IN 2002 AND 480i RESOLUTION! Now RE2 Remake is doing the exact same thing 20 years later. Yes i know RE7 looks extremely similar but i have never played it or seen it in 4k 60fps since the game never interested me. This is blowing my goddamn mind like very few games have in this millennium.

To anyone who hasn't played the demo on pc yet. DL the trainer before you do. It allows you to make that 30 min timer infinite. It has to be used before you play the game for the first time or it won't work apparently.
Ray-tracing in this game would be something else. Hope they do implement it.

I'm running at 4k (interlaced) max settings at 60fps on my gtx 1080, the difference between normal rendering and interlaced is frankly minimal. I don't know why DF didn't talk about those different modes, I hope they will do in the final review.
i found it very distracting, everything at different depths look like a cardboard cutout stacked on top of the next thing, i don't know if it was a bug for me or what
@@Brian2k2 hmm I didn't get that problem, truth be told it looks a little bit less sharp than running on "normal mode" but literally you have to go very close to the monitor and even than it is very hard to spot. I should also mention that I played on 4K, so the result may vary on other resolutions. I get a significant boost in performance so I can basically get that 60 locked at 4k maxed out, (2160i).

Yeah I definitely agree, I'd much prefer a locked 30fps with frame time perfect vsync, than ~45fps with erratic frame times. There's clearly enough overhead to allow it.
You should test if the demo works with a Freesync TV on xbox one, or do it when the game releases

I'm so happy to see how well Capcom have handled this game, both the port and the remake itself. It runs like absolute butter, the kb+m controls are far from bad and the game feels like a remake without butchering the underlying nostalgia for returning fans. Can't wait for the full game.

Will you analyze Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition? Each console version has different resolutions and fps. And the Switch Version suffers from performance issues and unstable framerates, unfortunately.

I agree a 30cap option on the base consoles would be a good idea, i use TVs with interpolation settings so a consistant 30fps is made into a very believable looking 60fps with the right setyings, but that stops being an option if its uncapped and bouncing around the 30s and 40s.
When I was playing this on pc it looked really good. A steady 59-60 fps at all times from what I noticed and that's on a mid range machine from 4 years ago.

@Vespr Why? Right now, RX 580 are being sold for a great price (€165) with 2 €60 games for free. Meanwhile, if I buy navi, I have to wait a year without a graphics card and it might just end up with similar performance for the same price as a good sale now

@Vespr Adored TV has been wrong multiple times already, I don't consider him a trustworthy source. Sources who know what's actually going on in the industry, expect Navi to arrive by the end of the year. And of course Navi is going to be better than Polaris, but at what price? Nvidia isn't even giving you better value this generation and AMD is not going to hugely undercut it just because, since that would lose them so much profit. Realistically, Navi will offer better value around the €300-€400 range, but don't expect RTX 2060 performance at less than half the price.
@Vespr Just keep your expectations in check. Zen 2 has space for more than 1 chiplet, but that doesn't mean that Ryzen 3000 series will use more than 1. My expectation is slowly growing core counts over the different 7nm generations. As for GPUs, I just look at AMD over the past years: At launch, they are about on par to Nvidia in performance and price and only gain competitive advantage after launch when prices drop massively. That's why I'm buying an RX 580 now: Prices have dropped massively, comes with free games and just offers bang for your buck like nothing else. You can definitely wait, but I'd lower your expectations a bit, since the AMD rumours from adoredTV just seem unrealistic

No one plays games at 4K with max settings on pc lol. I love how this PC gamers speak like everyone who as pc plays in ultra settings. What a joke. Most people on pc play at medium or high settings in 1080p. A pc gamer want the game running smoothly as possible to play it. Who cares about 4K? I just like playing at 140+ frames on a 144hz monitor, over barebones consoles that strive to hit a consistent 60 and usually fail even in that department.

I recently played the demo on my PC as well and was kinda confused as to why the zombie animations were running at a lower framerate from a distance. I also got that weird glitch after you used a knife on them and everything starts to stutter. Glad to hear that It wasn't just me that was getting these problems. I legit thought something was wrong with my PC. You guys are awesome!!
I’ve never been a big fan of the RE games. I played 1 and 2 a bit a long time ago, but this demo really made me consider giving this game a try. It felt very well made.
What's the point with DirectX 12? I can't even remember a single game that improves the framerate or smoothness by choosing DX12. Auf Wiedersehen!
Tomb Raider, but generally it has been awful.
Seems like new DirectX versions take a long time to break in and use well. Hopefully they keep it an option most of the time.

Depends on how the developer implements it. Nothing wrong with the API its self. It just opens up new things for developers to do. Capcom's implementation of it in RE 2 is garbage. My guess is they took the laziest route and just used a DX 12 wrapper.
I was running RE2 PC demo with DX12 at 1080p 100fps, 1440p 80fps and 4K 30fps locked with an i7-2600 and GTX 1060 6GB overclocked. It's a well optimized engine. Glad I preordered the deluxe edition.

Use Dx11, there is a clear performance drop with Dx12. Seriously though, the only game I've seen that actually improves performance with Dx12 is Rise of the Tomb Raider. I really hope this will change eventually otherwise we got all hyped up for Dx12 only to be left disappointed.

I think we can all agree that base consoles now need a some sort of performance mode from the game or from each own firmware.
This performance mode consists of reducing its default resolution to say 10-25 percent so it can reach the game target fps and provide better frame time pacing.
So True it's light on CPU, because i got Core i7 960 with GTX 970 i run Resident Evil 2 Remake Demo 1080p medium settings usually 60fps a little bit get under 60fps in some place, good modern optimized game

Was pleasantly surprised to see Dolby Atmos supported in the PC game and even from the short gameplay, I can tell the audio is going to be killer! Just hope they fix the HDR implementation for launch.

Just finished the demo on PC at 4k. It ran great and looked great! Brought back a lot of old memories from playing this as a kid.
Looks like Capcom pulled a Rockstar on the PS4 pro. Really hope this isn’t becoming a trend with that soft and smeared reconstruction. Sony’s first party titles visually really are different beasts and quite frankly make several third party developers and their optimization for the PS4 pro look like amateurs.
darksunwithin well sony studios make the games only for ps4 and their engines are only meant for ps4 so ofc they do it better. 3rd party devs either don't have money or time to put extra effort into all those versions or they just don't care too much about it

Never said anything about powerhouse here, however we’ve seen what’s possible with games such as U4, HZD, GoW, Detroit and Spider-man. So to me it sounds like excuses when you see RDR2 on the 1X compared to the Pro; overall it looks good but the finer details have that layer of grease smeared over it. Those details on the 1X on the other hand appear to be a different/new textures. I kind of find how much of a difference there is between the two versions a bit insulting. Of course it has to look better on the X but details on PS4P reduced to grease? Come on. As I said, excuses...
@@darksunwithin It sounds more to me like you're creating games for what the hw allows for, not what isn't there. If we went by your logic, then everything from the X1 to the Switch and PC can be "powerhouses", because the majority of devs don't "cater" to said power.
The thing is, devs these days, when they talk about "optimization", they're talking about peeling stuff back, not padding more stuff on. Whatever was made for the PS4, was made for it's hw level, not for what just isn't there.
Really, what you guys should pay more attention to is the differences in engines and AA, as well as just what level of texture detail is cranked up and down. Because PC has a lot more juice, it's able to crank up the level of detail, not down to "optimization", because we know by fact that there are thousands of differing PC parts that need to be taken into account, but rarely are, just because there are too many parts to account for, hence why PC goes by raw power alone. Games designed purely for consoles only go for what the console hw actually allows for. if you tried to go by raw power alone, you'll notice that it cannot cut it, due to the CPU being factually weaker than most modern CPU's PC's use.
Also the hard drives as well, they run a lot slower than any SSD/NVME drives out there, and we know the majority of consoles don't have insanely fast write speeds, to simply toss out 4k textures on the fly for literally everything.
Being honest, if I saw console parity (which we do half the time on PC) , I'd be insulted, because I know we can do and see better on PC. There's little excuses for console parity on PC though.
Technically the original Xbox One is closest to the original PS1 version...winner? xD

I love you GP102. You're still the best premium chip considering performance and life cycle. Demo runs perfectly at any resolution. Even 4K 60 FPS TAA at 1950/12500 with only two settings down: Shadows - High, Volumetric Lighting - Medium. Uncredible! Demo doesn't look super fantastic of course but very good looking with all modern features. Reflections filtering is pretty strange though and i doubt Capcom will fix it. Same in RE7, i guess it's engine limitation. Anyway, can't wait!
My only complain is that if you pay close attention where Leon crawls through the shutter gate, both entering and exiting, you will notice that the Screen Space Reflections are not inverted which is not the case with every other stationary object.
Am I the only one who was not impressed? I was a bit underwhelmed by the graphics. Felt a little bit low budget. Not nearly as polished as Resident Evil 7. I do hope the demo is an old build and RTX support is also coming.. because this demo doesn't even scratch how good RE7 still looks by comparison.

@@Yoidze doesnt matter to me personally either or, im not the type that notices fps, but yea those that do and are versed in tech/performance always say locked is better esp when the framerate literallly fluctuates into the 30s, might as well keep it steady then...but im sure the game had a reason for keeping it unlocked, i think it's capcoms engine, all their games seem to be unlocked like monster hunter world was too, proly something is tied to the framerate and would cause issues or something

Currently running a MSI Armour RTX 2070 on max settings and I’m getting 75FPS at 1440p on all gameplay with an occasional drop with cutscenes (it falls to around 45-55).
With it being a day after release I’m really happy with it.
Here’s to hoping they can potentially tweak any of the minor issues with FPS across the board.
Superb game, superb visuals and I cannot wait to sink into it further!

On my Oled on Xbox one X the game doesn't look all that great when it comes to atmosphere. It looks like a grey mess at time. I just finished Shadow of the Tomb Raider and my God when you are in a cave in that game it looks so dark. The deepest black you can imagine and here, especially playing in the dark it just doesn't look good.

Try playing with HDR disabled. For some reason the HDR is broken in this demo, making all the blacks look grey and washed out. Hopefully this is fixed in the actual release.
I don't know if you're using HDR or not. I turn HDR off most of the time for the exact reasons you mentioned. A lot of the times, things are too dark for my liking. Resident Evil 7 was so so dark outside on the docks whenever I had hdr enabled.
Fascinating! I was surprised to find that the game seemed to look and perform very slightly better on my PS4 Pro than my PC with a decent Quad-core i5 and GTX 970 but I have to attribute that to my own lack of configuration since recently getting a 4K TV. Love the analysis as always and am pumped for the final game along with DF's coverage.

A 40fps lock on base ps4 would be great. Xbox can't seem to handle that so 30fps for that I guess.
