I just started the game, and the most dangerous robot I've faced so far is the Scrapper. Watching this video makes me seriously reconsider playing it! UPDATE: I'm at level 53 now and Thunderjaws are a piece of cake. My new nemeses are those muthafrickin Fireclaws that I'm supposed to destroy!!!

I remember my first time seeing a Thunderjaw. I saw the art of it, but I didn't think it would be so big. I was like level 10-ish, and I made sure to keep like a 200 foot distance away from it whenever I needed to pass.
For the stalkers: I always use the purple tearblast arrows to hit the component by their hips, that will disable the invisibility power so you can encounter them easilier
Wait, you said the behemoths work in pairs. Similar to most Rockbreakers do too in most cases. While they covered weaknesses the person making the video isn't clever at all. Use corruption on pairs in order to make the two beasts fight each other. Alternate between the two each time. Then, finish the remaining one off with anything really. Corruption is extremely useful.
As an added point for snapmaws that actually came into play for me during the dlc they are way easier to deal with if you are walking on a rope because you can just walk casually out of the way of the frost attacks and the attacks won’t leave a area of frost that damaged you on the rope. Just make sure you have plenty of arrows and the rope is high enough above that they cannot use melee
With every machine, I just tend to stand on higher ground, where I have access to cover and won't get hit as much :) I really can't deal with being out in the open and losing track of where the machine is

Because I took a long break I forgot I had the game set for Ultra Hard. Oh boy, that last fight was something else.

Deathbringer- Armed to the teeth with guns and explosives 3. Corruptor- Fast, jumps up with a heavy drop attack, and has a tail that lobs boulders 2. Rock Breaker- Attacks from underground, is gigantic, and launches a hailstorm of rocks 1. Stormbird- Flies very high up, is armored, litters electric shocks, and is overall massive
Lmao how about scanning them to find their weakness? Like trampler for example, you can just freeze them then finish them off with your weakest arrow, saving resources.
The video could've been improved with some mention exactly how corruptors are weak to fire. Fire arrows cause them to overheat, unlike other enemies, and when they do they expose their heat sinks which you can shoot for bonus damage. Only one other enemy acts like this and that enemy sometimes exposes it's heat sinks on it's own.
Hit and run worked best for me with the Thunderjaw. Shoot off it's radar part first, then both disc launchers. Then Tearblast it's face to disable it's cannons, although it will then switch to a lazer attack which is easier to dodge. Just shoot, hide, shoot, hide. Felt really good to kill my first Thunderjaw.
Genuinely dont see how anyone can have a problem with a rockbreaker 1.when it digs up and only reveal its hand shoot them with year last arrows 1 hit and they are all gone not allowing it to move fast enough to cath up next let the do the slide attack and shoot the side sacjs with precision arrows 3 or 4 accurate shots and it causes a Massive explosion dealinh alot of damage once you've done all of those it Will be on its last few hits maybe 4 or 5 dont Brother with the exhaust port on its back it quiet hard to hit Just a waste of time and arrows Just keep on shooting it in its body with freeze arrows and precision ones I also See alot of people complaining about glinthawks for some reason Use year last arrows the chest piece will need 2 shots and the Bird collapses use a critical hit and it dead or any chance that you get when its on the ground and not flying hit it with the spear it cant attack you when on the the ground As for thunderjaws and Storm birds i understand why people find it hard they both have crazy attacks and a shit ton of health

i remember seeing my first thunderjaw and i was like "NONONONONO" and now im a thunderjaw hunter. this is how an open world game should be made. the thunderjaw actually intimidated me, unlike other bosses in other games. i also like how this game is very difficult at first, but doesnt take that much time to get good at. feels like an accomplishment rather than being able to yeet the mobs on your first try.
The rock-breaker is extremely easy to beat. All you have to do is go over to the large pile of rubble near one of the walls of the quarry, jump up onto it and hide behind the rocks. Then just pop up every time it is charging up its rock throwing attack, shoot it and pop back down into the divot close to the wall when it starts throwing rocks. If you do it correctly none of the rocks will be able to hit you. I discovered this on my third death and beat it really easily after that.
You need three things. Shadow carja ropecaster. Those freezebomb things to freeze enemies. And that hunting bow you get from the dlc. Put nothing but handling on the ropecaster and it can take anything down easily. Then you freeze them. Once frozen just spam hardened arrows onto their weak points. (been bit since I've played.)
The best way to defeat snapmaw is that other than hitting off their canisters we can use fire ammo to hit both the canister so after 2 blasts its life will be down to low and then using sharpbow normal arrows 2-3 hits will take them down which is very useful when they are In group and from long range
Scott Ness freeze it and hit it with a blast sling a few times and it dies really fast. You can also freeze them and use the triple arrow ability. It works on all enemies... but i still cant kill a fucking rock breaker.
i took down a thunderjaw with mild difficulty, but the rock breaker I am unable to beat. They keep hiding underground then striking and its overwhelming, especially when another joins
Oryx, The Taken King Same here.. They completely wrecked me because there were two of them. I might have been able to beat a single rockbreaker, but two? Easily the toughest enemy so far, far worse than thunderjaws and deathbringers, in my opinion.
Lord Krishna I beat the 2 in the corruption zone by going to the other side of the river, so that they couldn't physically attack me, and I just shot arrows at them
Some of the tactics used are really long winded in terms of how to really take them out, while i've never needed to use much in terms of weapons to kill the enemies i do highly suggest trip wires to make an enemy go down fast, charging enemies tend to keel over if i remember right using them. Tear arrows do so much damage it's not even much of a fight, you can take down most smaller enemies within 2 shots, bellows and thunders being the harder types. With stalkers i lure them using their own mines to the area then use trip traps to finish them or turn them against each other. Glinthawks take 2 shots pretty much to the chest to take them down easily, scrappers the first job with them is removing the radar because that'll spot you from a distance and then from there it takes 1-2 shots to take down on their head if i remember. Thunderjaws are amazingly easy, take out the radar looking thing on top of it first, then the tail or mouth cannons next, killing the tail will decrease the attacks it can do and stop it from using it in close range after a charge which is good because it makes it so much easier to just dodge and shoot, the cannons are the last target you need and both of them will do extreme damage and allow you to finish it off easily if you aim at the heart with them.
when fighting against corrupted machines I use antidote which helps keep my health from draining when I'm near the red goo and the armor that protects against corruption. other than that I think I'm ready to face Rockbreaker, behemoth, storm bird and the other difficult giant ones haha
Tip: If you have multiple machines use Cruption Arrows that's always fun to watch. There is one location you can get a Behimath, Thunderjaw, and Tremblers with various smaller machines. I walked away with about 3,000 shards for the cost of 2-3 dozen Cruption Arrows.
rope caster plus trip caster spam, kills everything. I mean place down 7+ explosive wires, use a few Tearblast Arrows to remove armor, lure the machine with rocks/lure skill, watch the fireworks. Enjoy!
For glinthawks, if your able to stay hidden or even if your not hidden, i always aim for their freeze sack because if you get it to explode it causes lots of damage to them and other machines if near by, quickest way is with sharpshooter bows regular arrows
I'm level 22 already and can't seem to take down stormbirds, I'm not at all excited to deal with a thunderjaw. Machines used to get on my nerves specially the sawtooth was the most intimidating so far besides the storm bird. I'm finally able to take down sawtooths easily from a distance and with the trip caster traps. I wonder if I'll get good at this game, I like the story line.
To take down storm birds I burn it out of the sky with flaming arrows. once its on the ground I use my rope caster to tie it down for enough time to freeze it with frost bombs. Then, when you have a clear shot at its chest, notch 3 armor peircing arrows and fire at its chest multiple times. Rinse and repeat. If you have any suggestions as to how I could improve my tactics, please tell me.
I disagree about the Behemoths. I found taking out the canisters on the head does a massive amount of damage. Freeze them first even better. In the Sun Ring, I usually tie it down, freeze it, then shoot canisters and repeat depending on the level and difficulty it usually takes 2-4 times.
my nephew figured out fast how to take out the disc launchers on the thunderjaw and just wail into it with the weapons. After that it became fun to just end it fast. For glinthawks just use terrablast and fire arrows. Or convert 1 and let him take out his buddies.
great game, but i feel there are more useful ways to take down the bigger guys. like the thunder jaw, use tearblast to dismantle the disc launchers which you can then pick up and shoot back. then light them on fire and aim for the jaw. plus, i rarely use the ropecaster.
Pro tip: cuz I’m a pro player from horizon zero dawn, is to get the lodge war bow, then go up to your enemy then freeze them with freeze arrows, then when they are cold enough, they get temporary unable to move, attack of do anything at all, plus when they’re freezed they take Much more damage, fun fact, if you load up your “normal” bow, with three hardpoint arrows, then shoot at the weak spot of a thunderjaw, depends on your difficulty and what modifications you have on your bow, when I did this for not so long ago, and I’m at new game+ very hard, I dealt over a thousand damage on a corrupted thunderjaw, and the higher/harder difficulty you’re at the less damage you will deal with you’re bow, just trust me, it’s OP AF.
There are actually 2 kinds of watchers: Normal ones that just kick you and alert other bots:watchers Special ones that do the normal stud but have the ability to temporarily blind you by shooting a ball of energy at you:redeye watchers
Thunderjaw tip, target its disc launcher first then use it to lower its health down to 25% the rest of fight is pretty easy, i just spammed hardpoint arrows at it
tbh i used fire arrows the whole game against every enemy.. because when they start burning the get constat damage. dont know. never had any problems like that. :D
I honestly really like using the spear. I was pretty stubborn about using it, and nothing else lmao I recently got into using arrows more, and this just opened my eyes to see how effective they can be in any fight
What about Fireclaw? Frost claw is easy and fast to kill but Fireclaw...that on takes good 5 minutes and sometimes more since it attracts more machines
Anything under thunder jaw and storm bird are not worth using arrows... Also, you can cause a fire blast hitting the Snapmaw's fire canister with fire arrows.
Once you have the ability, override Watchers to cause chaos in machine groups. Plus they're tough so it'll make any subsequent fighting much easier Clearing Corrupted Zones pays for itself the tactics and strategies are invaluable
For most of the bigger machines, just freeze them. . . If you freeze them and then use the rattler on them, their health bar just melts. If you dodge around doing this to a thunder jaw, it’ll die in a minute. Good Hunting!

You missed the fact that a warbow (shock arrow) to the Longlegs canisters will cause an AOE EMP blast causing massive shock to anything in range... not exactly the same as just "shoot it in the back"
Mainly guys if you want to take parts off a robot dinosaur or beast use a tear blaster trust me they are strong and take down thunder jaw disc shooting things whatever they're called
Triple Precison arrow to the yellow canister underbelly of a trampler will set it on fire but it stays on fire indefinitely so you can just let it burn to death. Incredibly cheese kill
My first mission with a sawtooth - I placed a tripcaster trap and I lured it close to me hoping it would trip the wire and stun. The bastard jumped over the wire and killed Aloy 😅

Hit the glinthawks stomach with tear blast, If you hit it right it will pop the freeze sac and allow you to instakill with a critical hit

I've been having a helluva time with the fire bellowback in the sigma cauldron. this is gonna help a lot!

I just use focus to find theyre weaknesses or just look at the notebook
Hit and run worked best for me with the Thunderjaw. Shoot off it's radar part first, then both disc launchers. Then Tearblast it's face to disable it's cannons, although it will then switch to a lazer attack which is easier to dodge. Just shoot, hide, shoot, hide. Felt really good to kill my first Thunderjaw.

1.when it digs up and only reveal its hand shoot them with year last arrows 1 hit and they are all gone not allowing it to move fast enough to cath up next let the do the slide attack and shoot the side sacjs with precision arrows 3 or 4 accurate shots and it causes a Massive explosion dealinh alot of damage once you've done all of those it Will be on its last few hits maybe 4 or 5 dont Brother with the exhaust port on its back it quiet hard to hit Just a waste of time and arrows Just keep on shooting it in its body with freeze arrows and precision ones
I also See alot of people complaining about glinthawks for some reason
Use year last arrows the chest piece will need 2 shots and the Bird collapses use a critical hit and it dead or any chance that you get when its on the ground and not flying hit it with the spear it cant attack you when on the the ground
As for thunderjaws and Storm birds i understand why people find it hard they both have crazy attacks and a shit ton of health

Glintawk - Just use fire arrow, even one arrow usually grounds them then, just smash them open.
Trampler - Shoot 2/3 piercing arrows to the yellow belly, catch the Trampler on fire
BellowBack - Shoot 2/3 arrows on their two yellow/silver sacks
Rockbreaker - Need to use Blast bombs on the yellow sacks
Well, seems like you've provided quantity of arrows for lower difficulties. Very far from the amount required on ultra hard.
I recommend getting the pneumatic air firing gun (forgot the name) to strip the armour of everything big

i remember seeing my first thunderjaw and i was like "NONONONONO" and now im a thunderjaw hunter. this is how an open world game should be made. the thunderjaw actually intimidated me, unlike other bosses in other games. i also like how this game is very difficult at first, but doesnt take that much time to get good at. feels like an accomplishment rather than being able to yeet the mobs on your first try.
Watcher, strider, scrapper, grazer: If they attack, just roll and use a heavy hit. All but grazer should get stunned, at least on the hard difficulty.

The rock-breaker is extremely easy to beat. All you have to do is go over to the large pile of rubble near one of the walls of the quarry, jump up onto it and hide behind the rocks. Then just pop up every time it is charging up its rock throwing attack, shoot it and pop back down into the divot close to the wall when it starts throwing rocks. If you do it correctly none of the rocks will be able to hit you. I discovered this on my third death and beat it really easily after that.

You need three things. Shadow carja ropecaster. Those freezebomb things to freeze enemies. And that hunting bow you get from the dlc. Put nothing but handling on the ropecaster and it can take anything down easily. Then you freeze them. Once frozen just spam hardened arrows onto their weak points. (been bit since I've played.)
The best way to defeat snapmaw is that other than hitting off their canisters we can use fire ammo to hit both the canister so after 2 blasts its life will be down to low and then using sharpbow normal arrows 2-3 hits will take them down which is very useful when they are In group and from long range

Stalkers and Rock Breakers were the hardest machines for me
I was level 20 and soloed a thunderjaw after a few attempts... so breathtaking
That damn thunderjaw is a challenge
Scott Ness freeze it and hit it with a blast sling a few times and it dies really fast. You can also freeze them and use the triple arrow ability. It works on all enemies... but i still cant kill a fucking rock breaker.
i took down a thunderjaw with mild difficulty, but the rock breaker I am unable to beat. They keep hiding underground then striking and its overwhelming, especially when another joins
Oryx, The Taken King Same here.. They completely wrecked me because there were two of them. I might have been able to beat a single rockbreaker, but two? Easily the toughest enemy so far, far worse than thunderjaws and deathbringers, in my opinion.
Lord Krishna I beat the 2 in the corruption zone by going to the other side of the river, so that they couldn't physically attack me, and I just shot arrows at them

Some of the tactics used are really long winded in terms of how to really take them out, while i've never needed to use much in terms of weapons to kill the enemies i do highly suggest trip wires to make an enemy go down fast, charging enemies tend to keel over if i remember right using them.
Tear arrows do so much damage it's not even much of a fight, you can take down most smaller enemies within 2 shots, bellows and thunders being the harder types. With stalkers i lure them using their own mines to the area then use trip traps to finish them or turn them against each other.
Glinthawks take 2 shots pretty much to the chest to take them down easily, scrappers the first job with them is removing the radar because that'll spot you from a distance and then from there it takes 1-2 shots to take down on their head if i remember.
Thunderjaws are amazingly easy, take out the radar looking thing on top of it first, then the tail or mouth cannons next, killing the tail will decrease the attacks it can do and stop it from using it in close range after a charge which is good because it makes it so much easier to just dodge and shoot, the cannons are the last target you need and both of them will do extreme damage and allow you to finish it off easily if you aim at the heart with them.
Managed to kill a thunder jaw at level 14 took me 30 minutes though
when fighting against corrupted machines I use antidote which helps keep my health from draining when I'm near the red goo and the armor that protects against corruption.
other than that I think I'm ready to face Rockbreaker, behemoth, storm bird and the other difficult giant ones haha

Tip: If you have multiple machines use Cruption Arrows that's always fun to watch. There is one location you can get a Behimath, Thunderjaw, and Tremblers with various smaller machines. I walked away with about 3,000 shards for the cost of 2-3 dozen Cruption Arrows.

rope caster plus trip caster spam, kills everything. I mean place down 7+ explosive wires, use a few Tearblast Arrows to remove armor, lure the machine with rocks/lure skill, watch the fireworks. Enjoy!

For glinthawks, if your able to stay hidden or even if your not hidden, i always aim for their freeze sack because if you get it to explode it causes lots of damage to them and other machines if near by, quickest way is with sharpshooter bows regular arrows

I'm level 22 already and can't seem to take down stormbirds, I'm not at all excited to deal with a thunderjaw. Machines used to get on my nerves specially the sawtooth was the most intimidating so far besides the storm bird. I'm finally able to take down sawtooths easily from a distance and with the trip caster traps. I wonder if I'll get good at this game, I like the story line.
To take down storm birds I burn it out of the sky with flaming arrows. once its on the ground I use my rope caster to tie it down for enough time to freeze it with frost bombs. Then, when you have a clear shot at its chest, notch 3 armor peircing arrows and fire at its chest multiple times. Rinse and repeat. If you have any suggestions as to how I could improve my tactics, please tell me.

I disagree about the Behemoths. I found taking out the canisters on the head does a massive amount of damage. Freeze them first even better. In the Sun Ring, I usually tie it down, freeze it, then shoot canisters and repeat depending on the level and difficulty it usually takes 2-4 times.
if you get the shield weaver armor you might as well call yourself superman it is the strongest armor

my nephew figured out fast how to take out the disc launchers on the thunderjaw and just wail into it with the weapons. After that it became fun to just end it fast. For glinthawks just use terrablast and fire arrows. Or convert 1 and let him take out his buddies.

great game, but i feel there are more useful ways to take down the bigger guys. like the thunder jaw, use tearblast to dismantle the disc launchers which you can then pick up and shoot back. then light them on fire and aim for the jaw. plus, i rarely use the ropecaster.
Pro tip: cuz I’m a pro player from horizon zero dawn, is to get the lodge war bow, then go up to your enemy then freeze them with freeze arrows, then when they are cold enough, they get temporary unable to move, attack of do anything at all, plus when they’re freezed they take Much more damage, fun fact, if you load up your “normal” bow, with three hardpoint arrows, then shoot at the weak spot of a thunderjaw, depends on your difficulty and what modifications you have on your bow, when I did this for not so long ago, and I’m at new game+ very hard, I dealt over a thousand damage on a corrupted thunderjaw, and the higher/harder difficulty you’re at the less damage you will deal with you’re bow, just trust me, it’s OP AF.

There are actually 2 kinds of watchers:
Normal ones that just kick you and alert other bots:watchers
Special ones that do the normal stud but have the ability to temporarily blind you by shooting a ball of energy at you:redeye watchers
Thunderjaw tip, target its disc launcher first then use it to lower its health down to 25% the rest of fight is pretty easy, i just spammed hardpoint arrows at it
tbh i used fire arrows the whole game against every enemy.. because when they start burning the get constat damage. dont know. never had any problems like that. :D

I recently got into using arrows more, and this just opened my eyes to see how effective they can be in any fight
Same here using a spear is really satisfying makes medium size enemy easy because you can just keep knocking them out
What about Fireclaw? Frost claw is easy and fast to kill but Fireclaw...that on takes good 5 minutes and sometimes more since it attracts more machines
I always try to get up a high as possible if it means climbing a random mountain and it always works except for with the stormbird or glithhawk
Anything under thunder jaw and storm bird are not worth using arrows... Also, you can cause a fire blast hitting the Snapmaw's fire canister with fire arrows.
Once you have the ability, override Watchers to cause chaos in machine groups. Plus they're tough so it'll make any subsequent fighting much easier
Clearing Corrupted Zones pays for itself the tactics and strategies are invaluable
For most of the bigger machines, just freeze them. . . If you freeze them and then use the rattler on them, their health bar just melts. If you dodge around doing this to a thunder jaw, it’ll die in a minute. Good Hunting!

You missed the fact that a warbow (shock arrow) to the Longlegs canisters will cause an AOE EMP blast causing massive shock to anything in range... not exactly the same as just "shoot it in the back"
Mainly guys if you want to take parts off a robot dinosaur or beast use a tear blaster trust me they are strong and take down thunder jaw disc shooting things whatever they're called
Triple Precison arrow to the yellow canister underbelly of a trampler will set it on fire but it stays on fire indefinitely so you can just let it burn to death. Incredibly cheese kill
For anyone curious the tear blaster weapon is extremely powerful against any machine but unfortunately costs 1500 metal shards

My first mission with a sawtooth - I placed a tripcaster trap and I lured it close to me hoping it would trip the wire and stun. The bastard jumped over the wire and killed Aloy 😅
