      A friend from HS disappeared one day. I knew her from band and both her parents taught at the school. I was in her father's history class. Anyway, she left work one night, and vanished. No trace. Search parties were called in, trackers, police and volunteers, local pilots did fly overs looking for signs. Hundreds of people scoured every inch of her route home, and any possible branch she may have taken back home or to a friends. But there was simply no trace. The search parties came and went. About 4 weeks after her disappearance, a deputy passed over a bridge and noticed what he thought tire tracks going off the road. He called it in, and divers soon after found a car. When it was pulled out of the river, they found a car matching her vehicle, and her body was still inside, strapped in the driver's seat.
      It is assumed that she ran off the road and was knocked unconscious as the car careened into the river where she drowned. She was a Junior in HS.

  • @CNSninja
    @CNSninja 3 роки тому +171

    People die in submerged cars all the time, but here's a pro tip that might save your life someday:
    If you ever drive a car into water, you won't be able to open the door or roll the window down because water is so heavy and pressing so hard against the car. It presses so hard it will literally hold your windows closed.
    The tip is this: get a window hammer from Amazon and attach it to your dashboard or keyring depending on size, or keep it in your glove box. Also just never leave home without a pocket knife. Don't let tye window hammer sit loose in the console or something because if you crash it'll fly across the car and you won't know where it is.
    In order to escape a submerged car you're going to have to break the window from inside, and it might not be as easy as you think. In a pinch, you can sometimes remove the head rest from your seat (familiarize yourself with how to do this before you need to know,) and use the two metal rods to break a window, or maybe you can use your seat belt buckle if you're lucky. A pointed window hammer will always work best, and even that may take a couple tries.
    Undo your seatbelt before you do anything. Then mentally prepare yourself to remain calm, because once you break the window the car is gonna fill with water very quickly, and you're going to be on the verge of panic.
    Calmness is essential here. Once the pressure equalizes and the car is full of water, you'll be able to swim out and to the surface, but not if you're panicking and short on blood oxygen.
    Before you do anything, think about all the things you need to do in order, and make sure you don't skip a step. If you're not actively sinking, you have a few minutes to collect yourself. You'll probably be just fine as long as you're not super deep somehow.
    • Unbuckle or cut your seat belt (just ALWAYS carry a knife)
    • Break the door window.
    • Breathe deep and slow and stay calm.
    • Wait for the car to fill with water, taking deep, slow breaths to oxygenate your blood and prevent hyperventilation.
    • As soon as the water stops rushing in, swim out of the window and to the surface.
    Once you go through this whole list in your mind, execute the list and think about what a crazy this story will be in just a few short minutes once you're safe again.
    I hope you never need to know this, but you'll be glad to know it if you ever need it.

      Great advice! Good job posting this for people who may not know! But if your on a frozen lake, Ice fishing or whatever, have your windows rolled all the way down so you don’t even have to worry about having a tool to break your windows. Your car will fill with water fairly quickly, but you still have to listen to this guys advice and wait for the water to fill your car, cause the force of the water rushing in will be way too much for you to crawl or swim out of your window, and do exactly as this guy says and don’t panic, conserve your energy and oxygen and just wait for the water to rush in, and swim to the surface, that’s your best bet. On frozen lakes there can be currents, which most of the time won’t freeze at all unless it’s an exceptionally cold winter, if you see open water the ice around it isn’t safe at all, so don’t try to walk on it or drive on it, or springs (which is water that bubbles out of the lake bed and doesn’t freeze as quickly as regular lake water) that will be a lot thinner than regular ice, so if your ever driving on a frozen lake, just be careful and be prepared, just in case.

    • @dbongoloid9541
      @dbongoloid9541 2 роки тому +2

      Bro, first off stop telling people they can use their head rest, the "spikes" are not pointy enough to create enough pressure to crack the laminated glass. Not to mention the padding absorbs a lot of the shock. Have a designated glass breaker in your car. Even a metal punch can break a car window with less force than the head rest, or depending on the situation, you know you are about to hit water already have that window going down, if you are passed out and hit the water scramble onto the back of that car and use that air bubble to breathe until the car is completely submerged, then the door will open easily enough.
      Stop spreading false info.
