Steve Fawx, hallo. Even though you didn’t ask for this, if you don’t mind, would you please tell me whether or not you believe in God? Either way, please give everything in your life to Him, He loves you, and have a good day!
As a retired Explosive Ordnance Disposal technician, I highly recommend rethinking your choices. A lot of what you find are inert trainers. Some may be live ordnance. Some trainers contain spotting charges, which may or may not kill you, but can cause serious injuries. If you didn't put it there, leave it alone, and report it to law enforcement.
The kill radius of the bomb was 30 feet, not the blast radius itself. From what Inknow about bombs (not really that much honestly, so someone correct me if I am wrong) the kill radius is the most intense bit of the bombs explosion, and there people die most of the time when they are in that radius. The blast radius on the bomb that they found would have been a lot bigger, possible injuring some people
I used to live near what was Camp Breckinridge, Ky. during WWII. To this day, occasionally farmers on land that used to be training areas find live shells. The police call the bomb squad from Ft. Campbell to come and take care of it. A couple families found one while digging out the basement for a house they were building.

Also watched more of the comments and saw another comment about mine lol, sorry for copying it apparently. "Radiation, bigger kill radius, more bombs", man, that looks more like a mortar shell than a goddamn nuclear bomb.
You need to be within 30 feet to die but even tho if you are like 40 feet away you can still get injured. And also if that is in the lake then there is a high chance that there will be more in or around the lake.
@@benedictlukas2223, yea I thought the same thing. If there were more and one went off it could level a small building, maybe more. If I remember correctly, if a bomb goes off under water the explosion would be worse than if it went off on land, which is why if a grenade goes off people are advised against ducking for cover in the water. I could be wrong about the water thing though.
Looks like a M50 mortar round, but seeing as how this was found in Georgia and these types or mortar's weren't around during the civil war, my guess is it's a training round(the M50A2 or A3 more than likely to be specific) but I'm glad you guy's took the right precautions to make sure everything and everyone was safe. Those don't have a giant blast radius(assuming it's not the training version) and are shot normally in clusters between 5 and 20 rounds on a target. It's definitely World War 2 era, but it's hard to say if it's the M50A1 or the A2/3 training round.
I think they were blowing it out of proportion (pardon the pun). If that thing went boom under water in the lake, the water would have insulated the blast radius to a fraction of it's yield. The only at risk for miles around that thing would have been the divers themselves. Not sure why they had to evacuate a city lol.
This was such a great adventure brotha! It’s a good thing we got this out of the water, but it definitely was scary! Craziest day I’ve ever had on the river!
Oh man, I find these things on almost every single metal detecting hunt I do. I even find bombs that are larger than my arms, from planes and artillery. Pretty common here in Europe. But.. they evacuate a city for 1 mortar round?! 😂 They are pretty dangerous yes.. They can blow you apart.

Happens so often in the UK with magnet fishers that the State wants to ban ... magnet fishing. Costs too much to keep the Bomb Squad turning up, wastes Police time (they could be censoring tweets) and makes the State look stupid for not cleaning the canals and rivers. Apparently it is better to ignore them than deal with them ...
So it is indeed a mortar and as there is no pin in it and no disks around the tail it is considered armed. A lot the colour and markings seem to have eroded so it's hard to tell but if it was black initially and from WWII era it might be a training/dummy round. If not, it looks to be either High Explosive or Smoke. In either case you'd want a safety radius of 300m around it as it will contain High Explosives and have Fragmentation. If a smoke round it could also have White Phosphorus, Toxic Smoke and Fire hazards as well and the fuze is on the nose for this. If it couldn't be moved then a CMD operator would have to BIP it (Blow-in-Place).
It is definitely a mortar grenade if it is from WW2 normally those mortar grenades can be exploded if u stuck the tail of it into a metal hardly if there is not a mortar to lauch it
well you guys should know more about them now but this mortar round will not have as big as an impact as you think being underwater even next to a pillar. look up the dambusters raid of WW2 and you will see how much more explosives it took to take down german dams of that time.
This guy is a legend! Not only does he find awesome stuff, he also cleans up the enviroment( refer to 2:43 )! 100% respect Eit: OMG! THANK YOU FOR SO MUCH LIKES!
this is very good, and kinda sad at the same time, its good that someone is finding these dangerous unexploded weapons to remove them and make the area safe again, and sad that there is no government program or aid in removing these weapons from civilian areas
colgateman1000 did you not read that? “The kill radius is 30 feet” If that’s a 82mm mortar though it’s actually 130 feet almost. And that’s at best because I doubt that’s a 120mm. Not only that, it’s missing it’s fuse and looks entirely washed out. All that aside you don’t evacuate the city you evacuate that single area in distance of the explosion.
@@dumango4455 You would still want to take as many safety precautions as possible, even if the explosive appears to be completely dead. The only way to confirm that it's dead is by actually examining it and confirming that it isn't a threat, fuse or no fuse. I'm not a smartass specialist, but I'm just saying what would make sense.
Well...what do you think artillery does? An artillery shell is a payload carrying device. The most common paylod is an explosive, and they were actually called "bombshells" but the word got shortened.
@@bbb462cid i mean it’s not artillery because these bombshells are shot by a mortar, an artillery shell would be fired by an artillery cannon which I believe is quite obvious

“Police evacuate city” *holds a mortar shell for the thumbnail*
What can a single mortar shell do to a city, it's not even in the city it's in the middle of the forest
I thought it was a warhead, but instead it’s a battlefield 1 mortar 😞

Me : I Understand, Only Nerds Will Understand
i definitely understand this
The sad part about this comment that I understand this but not from school
It is definitely a mortar grenade if it is from WW2 normally those mortar grenades can be exploded if u stuck the tail of it into a metal hardly if there is not a mortar to lauch it

It also ruin someone life... literally forever, yeah he wasn’t wrong
well you guys should know more about them now but this mortar round will not have as big as an impact as you think being underwater even next to a pillar. look up the dambusters raid of WW2 and you will see how much more explosives it took to take down german dams of that time.

Title :”evacuates city”
First 5 seconds of the video: “ the kill radius is 30 feet”
Me: NOW WAIT A MINUTE
you would have to take as much precautions as possible because someone in the city could get killed by shrapnel or something
It was a Lego city
colgateman1000 did you not read that? “The kill radius is 30 feet”
If that’s a 82mm mortar though it’s actually 130 feet almost. And that’s at best because I doubt that’s a 120mm.
Not only that, it’s missing it’s fuse and looks entirely washed out.
All that aside you don’t evacuate the city you evacuate that single area in distance of the explosion.
What about if it's a Lego city
That would be considered like a nuke
@@dumango4455 You would still want to take as many safety precautions as possible, even if the explosive appears to be completely dead. The only way to confirm that it's dead is by actually examining it and confirming that it isn't a threat, fuse or no fuse. I'm not a smartass specialist, but I'm just saying what would make sense.
"We're looking for guns or artillery shells"
*Finds a bomb instead*
Well...what do you think artillery does? An artillery shell is a payload carrying device. The most common paylod is an explosive, and they were actually called "bombshells" but the word got shortened.
@@bbb462cid i mean it’s not artillery because these bombshells are shot by a mortar, an artillery shell would be fired by an artillery cannon which I believe is quite obvious
@@sergioguerra7551 ...you either didn't read what I posted or you don't understand it. I didn't say it was artllery. The question asked by Paradox Incognito clearly indicates that artillery shells would be different from bombs. I explained why artillery shells and bombs are not as dissimilar as he or she thinks.
@@sergioguerra7551 mortars are basically small artillery guns that you can care on your back and use when needed.
It’s a mortar round. Not artillery, guns or stuff. A mortar shell
