    A thousand dollar respirator you called "the most expensive" tool purchase in your life, may actually be the most cost efficient investment in your life. Considering the potential possibility of having to be hospitalized for treatment and future complications due to chronic infections. So glad you got that, it will prove to be worth every penny. Breathe easy my friend....

    $1,000 is much less than a $50,000 Hospital Bill. An extremely wise investment, I noticed it in the last video. Another reason I enjoy watching your show is that you are not too macho on safety concerns. I worked with men like that & it seems they were always injured, and all used up by the time they reach 50.

    I have something similar that was recommended to me from a friend who is a firefighter. I had been down in our crawlspace working and that night (like yourself) had back pains only when I laid down. A few days I mentioned it to him and he said that I was exposing myself to damp stale air, there are various white and black molds hiding in most basement, not to mention radon which can be very harmful to you. He said I needed a powered respirator. You really can't put a price on health and safety, its important to you and your family.

Ashley is most of the time right there with you helping with the demolition and if she's not, she'll be working with the clean-up where all the bad dust has landed. You can't afford NOT to get Ashley the same Respirator. It won't be long before you're going to wish you had 2 respirators. Let's all pitch in a few Buck$$$ and get Ashley the same respirator. She needs one Too!

    Best investment you could make - nothing worse than fighting for breath in your later years because of shortcuts and risks taken earlier. I lost my mom to COVID in January. She was only 60. I learned a lot about the lungs because of it. Once you get a lung infection it’s very difficult for your lungs to fully recover which means you are more susceptible to lung infections. I also learned that sleeping in the prone position helps keep the fluid from settling in your lungs. It’s not very comfortable, but it can be life saving. It helps take all that pressure off your lungs. I’m extremely grateful that you now have this tool, because lung infections are very serious. And I love you guys, so I want you to be around for awhile!! 💜

Please take care of yourself.

  • @cynthiafisher9907
    @cynthiafisher9907 3 роки тому +23

    Doug, I’m glad you got this respirator, but you never said you had any medical care for your lungs. What if you already have damage that will turn to lung cancer? I think it would be good to get checked out by a specialist, since you’re “not young and reckless anymore”. I know of a woman who died from lung cancer from remodeling old houses. She never smoked.
    Also, what about the rest of the family when you are stirring up things like hantavirus and asbestos into the air? I know you are invested in diy, but asbestos can hang in the air for a long time. Please use the safest methods to deal with all this questionable stuff. You don’t want to compromise your family’s health either
    Sorry, I love you guys and am totally supportive, just a concerned mom.

    Your health is worth more than the cost of this respirator. Totally understand why you decided to try it and so glad it's working out as well as it is for you.
    As someone who has rheumatoid arthritis pleurisy, the 1st time I got it, it was pain in my back. I had no idea then it was anything lung related. It takes me months (last time it was 3 months) to recover when it occurs, so I absolutely understand where you're coming from on your own issues with it all.

      Pleurisy means water in your lungs right? How is it treated?

    • @ssartune
      @ssartune 3 роки тому +1

      @@kikibe1960 It's actually the inflammation of the lining between the lungs and ribs. Rheumatoid arthritis basically causes inflammation throughout the body and is far more than just arthritis.
      It is often treated with basic pain relief and rest. I've had one case where I had fluid build up and had to get it drained via a needle insertion. That was *not* fun.
      If it is caused by a bacterial infection occasionally antibiotic use is used.
      In my case, because it is related to an autoimmune disease, I get a short but intense course of steroids alongside my other immunesuppressent drug regime, to try and reduce the inflammation as much as possible.
      Some people get chest pain, but mine always presents in the upper back area, which isn't as uncommon as people think.

    Did you ever have a bacteria culture done to identify any bacteria you might have colonizing your lungs? Generally once the type or types of bacteria are identified doctors can give you antibiotics (that are not broad spectrum) that'll knock the bacteria out. I'm susceptible to lung infections due to having survived a childhood blood disease, I had severe lung infections as a child as a result of a weakened immune system, I was hospitalized twice due to severe lung infections. I have to be careful now but have been lucky to have fairly healthy lungs as an adult. The bacteria levels in your lungs can increase and decrease, wet moist lungs are such an ideal place for bacterial growth. If you're not anti medical treatment having your lung bacteria identified and possibly treated might help keep you more healthy long term. If you do receive antibiotics cultured yogurt is your friend! Good luck to you, hope your mask protects you.

    Kudos to both of you. Over $1,000 for the Air Purifying Respirator worth every penny to keep your lungs clean. Especially working in an older home environment: with lead base paint, asbestos and mold spores in the house and under the house. As well as removing the older siding that is behind the vinyl siding. No need to try to justify your expense; one day of removing any environmental hazard of any kind is worth above and beyond the money spent. There will be days that you may need to tape off the room you are working on until you get ALL the stuff removed and the dust removed to protect your wife and kids too. KUDOS to you both!!!

    You need to bake that silica gel in the oven, before putting it back in the sealed box with your equipment. The gel acts a little like a sponge, taking warmer into itself, but eventually it will contain so much water that it will not dry anything anymore, and could assist mould to grow in the box. The oven treatment removes the water from the gel.😀🇬🇧

      Why not buy a Damp Rid hanger or plastic container. I live in FL and it is an essential to have in every closet and the bathroom, to keep excess moisture from around ant kind of fabric. You will be surprised when you see the amount of water removed from the air. It fills the hanging bag or the plastic cup in no time in FL.try one and see if you feel a difference in your bed linens, your clothes,and towels.

    Excellent decision! I knew a man who was a painter by profession, and he developed COPD at age 35. Also, a good friend of mine owns a cabinet shop and I was always telling him to wear a respirator and he kept ignoring me. Finally, the man who had owned the shop previously and retired stopped in. He was in his 70's and he saw my friend still working without a mask. He completely lost it and yelled at him in a big tirade and told him "I can't enjoy my retirement because I get out of breath just walking a short distance. I have COPD! You wear the best respirator you can get and you make sure your employees do too! Get some vacuum hoses on those saws, too!" and he stomped out. My friend invested in respirators and vacuum hoses for all of his saws after that. So you did a very good thing investing in your health.

    No price to steep to prevent health probs.

    End of the day, you have a young family that needs you…
    You only have one life and you don’t want to be sat in a corner in your 50/60s with permanent oxygen having to be pumped in because your lungs are shot.

    Careful with any lead paint removal for the kids to be around too. Just the dust particles from a demo can be dangerous.🧠Scary!! Be careful, we love you guys.🤯 And don't forget to have fans and GOOD ventilation during painting. Even with water base paint. We had a family friend who died while painting a bathroom when it was cold. He kept the door and window closed while painting.

    At 8:33 when Ashley says that hard helmet is good for you I just busted out laughing because I’ve seen you bump your head several times. Once you raised up right into a nail. It truly was not funny at the time, but after the fact and Ashley’s comment just did me in.

    I'm so glad you found this, Meredith was correct, each time you were exposed you were scaring your lung tissue. In the past, there wasn't anything like this. Thank you for passing on this information. You do a great job of educating people.

    This was an extremely important Vlog! Important, that your UA-cam family knows that you're truly looking out for yourself and being as safe as possible! Also that you're sharing this information so that others know this product could be very beneficial for a project they may be working on as well! Pace yourself, please. I have seen how hard you work as the perfectionist that you are. I'm excited with you for the transformation that you'll all be doing for your home!! What you do is what a team of men do. Be well, safe, and take time to enjoy the process. No need to rush, as you don't have to hurry before the snowfalls... =8^)

    Cement once inhaled never leaves your lungs. You will literally end up with cement pulling down towards your waist because it’s heavy. Happens to my grandpa ended up with copd and lungs filled with cement.

    No matter how much the cost… it’s worth it to protect your health. Be sure to clean it before you store it in the container to prevent it from getting inside the mask. Hope you are enjoying Fla.

    Hope you got an xray to make sure you are clear now and don't need a course of antibiotics. So glad you got the mask. My Dad was a welder and had asbestosis, COPD, AND lung cancer. One day he confided that he contemplated suicide because the feeling of suffocating was so awful. It was really a grace that the doctors decided to operate on him to see what they could do. His lungs were a slushy mess and they sowed him right back up because there was nothing that could be done. No lung transplants at that time. He was medicated and allowed to die a natural death in the hospital - so many tubes coming in and out of him. He was ready spiritually and physically though, thank God.
